FINALLY!! ART!! i wanted to give a little rough ref to lilli's different phases! the idea for cartoon!v is that because she's a water fairy, she changes w/ the seasons!

for winter, there's ref to snowflakes/sharp edges and her hair would turn to ice cubes when braided, spring is free-flowing water w/ a lot of curves, autumn is mist (and directly insp by villa amalka) , and summer give her a really poofy dress and hair to mimic clouds!

i also think that dep on her form, it also gives her different abilities--- like as a cloud she can float, autumn can turn to mist, fun things like that.

i also thought of a scenario that on her first transformation, lilli had no idea that any of this would happen and was expecting to melt after a day of playing in greenland w/ her friends. luckily that wasn't the case!

been doodling the kids ! i was playing around with lilli's color palate and figured that blue stands out better than all white , hence the color change ( blue is often used in her original design anyway ) also the top three are lilli as a doll while the bottom two are her after she's transformed . sort of a nod to blue skin = ice person ala adventure time logic

i have no excuse for her hair though . it does what it wants .

lilli leaning towards the spiritualism / ' the old ways ' when it comes to her abilities verses her father's inclination towards science and technology is another thing i find interesting . not that you can't have both ( both ? both . both is good ) , but the subtle switch of spiritualism from being associated as " superstitious " and " lesser " than the superior rationality of science and reason makes for an interesting change of narrative .

glasburg in itself can be read as a critique against modernity , more-so the self-destructive tendencies that comes with its design and purpose when hubris and greed overcomes the importance of balance and valuing nature . ( in the book , glasburg is a contradiction of itself . it's all made of ice , but has a boiler room and runs on steam-power . that's a disaster waiting to happen , but no one seems too concerned about it )

a.rktos himself is a being with powerful magic , so why does he use technology to enhance his empire ? is it boredom ? an arrogant need for a challenge ?

well i think it's because in spite of his great power , he can't just freeze the world . it's against the law of nature . if he tries , the frost melts . even he can't go anywhere that isn't a tundra due to the limitations of his physical body . so he found a loophole , a way to defy the law of nature in order to get what he wants , and that was through a scientific approach .

this " forbidden knowledge " he then gave to the creatures of eisworld , who in themselves have become " unnatural " in the world he has created . ojo for instance , who despite holding fasts to the old values of her kin to the point of romanticizing , is completely clueless of how to live outside the comfort that glasburg has provided .

once upon a time i related marie from the aristocats to lilli , but now i know that's just ojo .

cutesy little kitten who loves pink and insists that she's a proper lady whilst regularly scrapping with her older brothers and swears in lapine .

now that i have the relationship tag i can gush about friendships because the ordeal of these feral kiddos falls into the whole "everyone else is practically useless this the face of adversity except for the three token grown-ups " and i love them for it :

ojo : a little snow bunny who's name translates to "little happiness" . the youngest and runt of her family with four older brothers , but certainly not the weakest . holds pride in her heritage and the old folktales , and resents a.rktos' efforts to try to rid of them and generally looking down on snow hares . young blood rebellion made her a delinquent , but her hubris got her trapped in an icicle by some guards after attempting to steal one of the snow sentry's carrot noses , but was freed by t.abaluga . she's perky , quick on her feet , and strong-willed . loves food ( especially carrots ) and is almost always hungry , and is fastest of the group .

bully : a ladybug , who claims to be extremely lucky . he's a bit of a huck finn , often lazy and doesn't worry himself with the hustle and bustle of the bees and ants-- but often rushes to the queen bee when things go wrong ( he's her ward ) . despite being a loudmouth , he's one of t.abaluga's oldest friends . he has good sense , both in humor , common sense , and intuition . maybe there is something to be said about luck in this bug .

digby : a common mole , who naturally wears thick glasses . he's the brains of the group , or in very least , the book-smarts . timid and a bit clumsy on the surface , he's prone to the comforts of his underground haven , often taking cover at the first sight of danger . yet compared to his fellow timid kindred , he's quite the brave heart , and would dig to the depths of the underworld for his friends . he's got vast knowledge about dirt ( which only lilli listens to intently ) , and secretly has a great fascination towards eisworld's technology .

the last unofficial member of this merry band is limbo , a polar bear . stationed as one of a.rtkos' guards , the bear is a friend hidden in plain sight , always ready to crack a joke or lend a big paw . an artist at heart , who had little choice in joining the ranks of arktos' empire , limbo is easygoing and warmhearted . the temperament of a giant dog , sometimes forgets that his size and can be intimidating . after lilli spared his life , he swore loyalty to her specifically . he is , essentially , what james is to a.rktos , but their bond is built on genuine friendship . he's the older brother type to the group , and a.rktos can never come to the conclusion of his treachery .
