It's super annoying when people seem hell bent on casting everything Callum does in the most critical light possible (like he only returns the egg because he's loyal to Ezran, which is...no). But then nobody else is ever judged by that same standard except Claudia and Viren. In other words, THE VILLAINS.

You're totally valid for thinking that! Thankfully, for the non-dark magic stuff it doesn't seem like that many people judge him any differently than they do the rest of Team Zym, and those that do I can count on one, uh, finger.

Yes, Callum has flaws. Yes he has a dark side. Yes he has something of a temper. Yes he has made serious, even disastrous, mistakes. But to recast these character flaws as character features that are just Who He Is(tm) and not something he should grow from misses a major point--Callum does try to do the right thing.

Literally, he even says as much:

Maybe [doing dark magic] was dangerous, but I don't regret it. I know that helping Pyrrah was the right thing to do.

On the flip side, while there's a tendency to upsell Callum's flaws, there's a tendency to downplay Rayla's and recast them as just outgrowths of her trauma, the way she was raised, her insecurities, etc. you get the picture.

You see, it was just the way she was raised that caused her to lie to Callum and abandon him in TTM. It was just her lack of self worth that made her abandon the dragon in s4 (and abandon Soren without a second thought, and downplay his absence to Callum and Ezran, causing them to lose an entire night looking for him). Sure, mistakes and whatnot, but the real culprit is her upbringing/her parents leaving/the Silvergrove/society in general.

Which is *drumrolls* 🎶problematic🎶 because it minimizes a female character's agency and sympathizes with her in the most condescending way possible. "She can't help it, look at how many people have failed her and raised her with a warped moral code and lack of self worth. Of course it's not her fault, she couldn't do any better."

"It's her upbringing" may or may not be true (and since it's mostly headcanon I'm leaning towards "not"), but at the end of the day that doesn't really matter. Just as it doesn't matter whether Callum did dark magic because he was raised in a society where doing so was permissible (Viren was High Mage after all) or because of his trauma at losing almost everyone he ever cared about.

It doesn't matter because, at the end of the day, he did it! He chose to do it. Whether people say he was right or wrong, they should own that. Just as they should for Rayla.

So what we know: Calico Jack and Kwazii both have pirate pasts. Pirates are usually known to have murd3r-y battles and fatal duels and the like, but can you imagine Kwazii murd3ring anyone? Cause I can’t. But yknow what? I can imagine Calico Jack 👀

SO: Maybe Calico Jack was a merciless pirate like the others before Kwazii was born. We know Calico Jack probably stayed around until Kwazii was maybe 4-6 cause of the photos, then he went to Amazon in search of the lost city and never returned. BUT CONSIDER THIS FOLKS: Once Kwazii was born, maybe Jack had a realization, like “oh dang. This is a dangerous and problematic lifestyle😬” He always tried to positively influence Kwazii, like “hey u can totally be a pirate without hurtin anyone, peace and love my guy” we know Kwazii was already starting to take after the pirate side of him from the photos, and Kwazii does get mistaken for Calico Jack, so Jack most likely got scared that something would happen to Kwazii like his leg or worse. Here’s where it gets intense hehe- mayhaps calico went on a bit of a spree finding the ruthless enemies of his (thinking they might mistake Kwazii for him and attack) like Whitebeard, Pirate King, all of em and uh “took care of them” so to speak. I was especially thinking about how Kwazii has all the keys to their treasure chests, and how all of their ships are sunken. SECOND SO: Jack leaves the keys and other clues to Kwazii, and departs to the Amazon, partially to escape authorities lmao and to have a final meeting place for them under the cover of to supposedly “find the hidden city” like bro be fr ain’t no way u was there for 20 years and didn’t find it cmon now it was a ploy💀

So overall, everything Kwazii thought was his pirate past, being a pirate before his Octonauts days, it was all set up by Calico Jack. Finding the maps, finding the music box, finding the Pirate Kings sword, finding the coconut crabs, finding the other half of the Amazon map so they would meet again: none of it was being a real pirate, it was a fabricated reality to keep Kwazii happy but most of all safe. That’s why we see no other cat pirates still alive and why good ol Jack gives me shady vibes💀✨🎶And that’s the truth about Calico Jack🎶✨

I am not siding with the original UL, its creator, or people who say it's problematic for the wrong reasons. I kinda have my own view of it, lemme explain:

Okay so people are saying it's problematic JUST because people are focusing on the sexual characteristic and that's all anyone sees it as.

But DustTale isn't problematic when people only see Murder as a crazed murderer without a heart. Which is completely untrue, did you know that? Broski's oddly chill y'know- Depends. De- Yeah it depends but he's not exactly out for bloodlust-

Anyways the point is unaliving people is BAD. Being overly sexual is...? Ehhh... Depends how you go about it (more on this later) BUT.

The reason I first heard/saw that UL was problematic was because of sexualized minors (Chara's design and not many people know this but Temmie is also a child) And... Eugh... Proshipping...

THOSE are the reasons it should be farted on 😭

So yeah! It's nice we have an AU/Concept that gives us the grounds to do that!

It's irritating sure but there's good content, look for that instead. I don't think we should shun the idea of anything as long as its basis isn't something disgusting?

Now, I'm an Ink kinnie so I love creation, I adore it. I hate to shut down a concept just because it's taboo or the creator/s didn't turn out so good. Make something wonderful instead of shutting it down for the problems it has in OTHER people's hands. It's our jobs as a creator to give life to these sillies as long as we're invested, and if someone does a bad job, that doesn't mean you or someone else can't have something good made in place of it.

Love the concept, don't mind the creator.

Love the children, not their parents.

Main points for those who didn't wanna read too much because let's be honest, I talk A LOT:

UL is not problematic because of being overly sexual, that's literally its nature

UL doesn't have to be overly sexual, just because it's common, doesn't mean it's hopeless, there's good content and you can contribute to it

Cause I always associate Joon with blue or like a forest green and Hobi with rainbow colors fr. i’ve always felt that jin really just be listening to whatever top 40 hit he hear on the radio or is floating around the internet at the time so fr fr it’s not even any specific genre or style i associate him with like i could really see him listening to anything but i mean if i had to choose probably ballads the most i think bc that’s the kind of music he be singing OH and coldplay they go together obviously and frfr that like movie montage music like the kind of songs you would hear playing after the climax of a movie and the main protagonist is forlornly going through their days living through the consequences of their actions a how to save a life type beat kinda music [easy on me // adele | true love // coldplay // rich baby daddy // drake ft sza and sexyy red]

Daisy : Many I think, like her actress (Riley has lots of them too). A Daisy (sorry for the pun) for her name,no matter if Its like in the book her real name, or if her name Its Margaret (one of the official nicknames for Girls called Margaret, so Its Daisy anyway....Whatever, It keeps being her name. 🌼.

Ong that old interview about dealbreakers is truly ick ick ick. And if he talks that way in public you can imagine what locker room talk looks like w him.

Again - his sexist statements and behaviour does not mean he is the devil. I don't want people to do what they've done with Matty because that's not right. But I wish they would look at TK the same way they looked at Matty. Or at least I need them to be called out by the rest if the fandom (however small it may be).

Matty is truly beautiful imo. He's such a kind, albeit flawed, human who never tries to appear untouchable. We've witnessed him be so very genuine and soft and emotional... and tbh TK to me comes off very very performative. Reminds me of my ex who loved to play into the "alpha male adored by men and females equally" thing.

At the end of the day, we are all human. If someone says they’ve never done anything problematic, questionable etc are lying or too young. We all go do it now and then.

In my experience, those with ADHD are more prone to foot in mouth disease, as we have seen with Matty. Matty is not a bad person. He’s done or said things that deserve a raised eyebrow. He’s made questionable choices and should probably be called out on it - just like we should raise an eyebrow at Travis’ comments. Do they deserve to be torn apart with death threats and horrible AI images around the internet that suggest things, or have campaigns telling a musician not to date them etc? NO. Matty has also done things to make steps towards amends. But some people will hate for the sake of hating.

Do I have colourful opinions about some things Matty has done / said? Yes. Do I agree with everything? No. For instance - I HATE the comment about GG. However, he shouldn’t be flayed alive for it. Nor does it make him a horrible person. Do I like Travis’ comments about oral and breeding? No. Will I flay him alive? No.

Hate culture is disgusting. It truly is. And it’s so immensely damaging. People do this to other people in our daily lives. Teenagers are a perfect example of it. Then when a class mate ends up 6 feet under at their own hands… classmates are often wondering WHY they did that to themselves. There’s enough hate in the world.

Favorite Character: Ziti my beloved. She has taken over my heart like mold. Oh my dearest. Hector is a very close second (he lost his throne to her, alas). Curls (Fernanda Pizazzo) gets third place hahehe.

MOONSTONE ALWAYS !!!

I wish we'd gotten more Brotherhood, but I also wish we'd gotten a better Zhan Tiri and a better Demanitus. They have so much lore potential that just flopped so bad :( !!!

We could've had Zhan Tiri tell Cassandra of her POV of her past with Demanitus in order to make Cass sympathize with her (developing her character and the plot in one swoop), and then we could've had a cool moment of the main gang reading Manny's journal in the finale (while looking for the Portal blueprints) and letting us see a flashback of his view of everything that happened until the fateful "I had to send my ex-bestie to acid hell" day and therefore get his own explanation on why he did it.

We could still have a vague explanation of their past, since both tales were told by opposite kings of the metaphorical board, but at least we wouldn't have the contradicting mess we got. Smh.

I found the fandom in 2018—2019. I remember I got to it maybe a couple months after season 1 ended and I got to watch season 2 as it came out !!

My song choices vary a lot depending on my mood. At the moment, my favorite song is not even a song but rather an instrumental/background music, "Onwards to the Dark Kingdom" (Great Tree soundtrack :] ) and I don't have a worst song to name because I don't care enough about the songs I don't immediately love to actually dislike them. So, I'm choosing "Next Stop Anywhere", since it's my least liked song among my liked songs !!

A big opinion I have is that Hector should've, if not taken the Moonstone himself, at the very least become an actual threat at some point. He would've been very useful in s2 since s2 lacks any real threat or antagonist (except the debut episode (Stalyan and Baron), the mid-finale (Hector and the GT), and the actual finale (Edmund).

Also Ziti could've been a little less Yzma'd. just saying 🦀
