Even from here, her shrieks are perfectly audible.

     "No-no, he's not a frog, he's got a bunch of clones that are frogs. At least, I don't think Peppino is a frog. He doesn't display the qualities of a frog, but I don't know why specifically the clones have to be frogs then, so I'm trying to piece that one together as we speak. To preserve my own mental stability, I'm attempting to disregard the 'why' for right now and focus specifically on the 'how'.

     And the base man of the cloning seems deeply grief-stricken by the cloning, it's clearly something he didn't give consent for, so... I dunno, it's just weird all around."

Turkkila & Versluis: “We Want To Differentiate Ourselves From Previous Years”

Earlier this month, ice dance couple Juulia Turkkila and Matthias Versluis skated in the show L'Apprenti Sorcier (The Sorcerer's Apprentice) organized in Champéry, Switzerland. The choreography was done by Salome Brunner and Stéphane Lambiel. The Finns were the only ice dancers in the show. How did they end up there?

“Last year, I edited the music for Deniss Vasiljevs' free program The Lion King,” Matthias says. This season, Matthias has done ten different music cuts for Lambiel's students.

“Towards the end of May, Stéphane asked us if we would be interested in joining the show. It was a great honor,” he continues.

“We were with an amazing group of skaters, some of the world's best. It's unique to skate with a live pianist,” Juulia shares.

In the show, Juulia and Matthias performed to Franz Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No 2. They presented wonderful lifts and spectacular movements. The international audience was impressed by the couple's soulful performance.

Finland's top couple has been training hard throughout the summer.

“Early May, we went to Rome for new choreography. In June, we had some vacation time and in July, we went to the Czech Republic for five weeks of summer camp,” Juulia says.

The rhythm dance theme for the 2024–25 season is Social Dancing from the 1950s–1970s.

“We chose music from the 1960s because we suspect that many teams will use disco from the 70s,” Juulia explains.

The pair found a go-go jive song that they immediately liked, and combined it with James Brown's classic I Got You.

“We wanted high energy music that the audience can recognize. There is no slow part in our rhythm dance. It is challenging,” Juulia reflects.

The couple's free dance is the Argentine Tango La Rubia Mirella, which is based on true events. The story was introduced to the couple by an Argentinian tango dancer, who worked with them on and off the ice.

“The beginning is quite soft, but the end is really strong. We want to show that we can be strong and fast. The language of movement is traditional tango, but the program is not built from typical dance movements,” Matthias shares.

Juulia plays a strong woman initially, but is used and abused by men. Matthias plays the role of a villain. The ending is dramatic.

“When there is a clear story, you have to bring in more emotion and drama,” Juulia states.

The pair's programs will first be seen in the Challenger Series competitions, followed by the Grand Prix events in Finland and China.

“We are aiming for medal positions in both GP competitions, and thus a place in the GP final. We are trying to collect world ranking points so that we can start competitions in the right groups during the Olympic season,” the couple says in unison.

With a fierce tango, Juulia and Matthias will be taking a different path this upcoming season, changing their image as classical lyrical skaters.

“We want to differentiate ourselves from previous years. A new combination lift is in the works for the free program, and the choreographic elements will be totally in character with the tango,” Juulia sums up.

She'd stared him down before, but his back to her made her pause. It was like a gap between rivalling flames.

Neither of them wanted to be in here. Stuck in here, telling and watching and waiting from miles away.

She was watching him crack.

For a moment, she was kind again. She was sorry. She understood. She felt him burning and twisting and writhing inside, no different from her, no different from Tails. If she could just get a hold back around what she was good for, she would stop this wringing and wailing right here. She would drop it all, hit her knees, and embrace him. Never mind if it ever made them agree. Maybe, for once, she could make him feel okay.

She remembered what Tails had been like before he'd gone, quiet, faded. Nothing she said worked. Of course he ran. They all wanted to run to the fight. Knuckles wasn't wrong.

But her fingers felt white in her palm. Ached with fear.

'Trust 'im.' Faith. Trust.

Believe, with all her heart, that everything would be okay. Tails never let them down. No one got the best of Tails. He'd be okay. Tails was a hero.

Sonic was a hero. Her hero.

"I don't," she said. "I can't."

She turned heel, and made to leave.

"I have to find him."

She really didn't understand. Instead of thinking of it from his perspective, she seemed to be looking at is as preventing them from losing another friend. Which... he understood. He absolutely understood the thought process. Tails was precious to all of them, but at the same time, they'd been keeping him here while he made things for them.

As far as Knuckles was concerned, he had earned himself freedom.

But here where no one else would hear the two of them about to tear each other's throats out? He was finally allowed to just let himself feel everything he'd been ignoring.

" Ya really think I want him out there any more than you do? He's MY brother too! But I also know that locking him in here is not gonna help any of us. Ya know what happens when he's stressed? " He wasn't upset that she had pulled away from him, but he would move into her space in his anger. " He turns into mute, not talkin' to anyone. And then, 'cause the one person who can calm 'im down enough to get him out of that is gone, he'll only get worse. "

He wanted to punch something, let out the anger and frustration he was feeling. Knuckles was a man of action, and being trapped here was just as frustrating for him. He'd rather be out there knocking heads together, not telling other people who to knock together. A fight would be great right now, but he didn't want to hurt Amy or anyone else here. So he did the next best thing.

He turned around and sat, breathing for a moment in an attempt to calm down even slightly. Sure he could stay here until he was calm, but that could be hours. He had to leave eventually.

" 's better for 'im to be out there, where he feels like he's making progress, than spinnin' his wheels in here with us. " A sigh, thumping his head on the wall in front of him. " Ya go out there lookin for him, and you'll get both of ya killed. Just... trust 'im... "

It has been an interesting couple of weeks.

I'm in prison. Turns out reporting incompetence to people making millions off it was never going to end well. Katherine was pretty gleeful getting me arrested as a Chinese hacker.

Anyway~ something happened that ended up triggering a prison break. Apparently large holes started appearing in the prison which include where the most dangerous metahumans were placed. Naturally, the combination of the two meant a whole bunch of prisoners made a run for it.

Apparently this breakout was planned for a while since metahumans are supposed to be collared to prevent usage of their powers - and well, they got them off.

Quite a number of people died. More are injured, and the prison break still hasn't ended. The guards have surrendered. The infrastructure of the prison was supposed to make them superior, but now that there's holes in the walls and over 20 prisoners for every staff member, the outcome was never in question.

As for me, well, I'm back where I'm supposed to be. Medical Wing of the Prison. I got an unofficial promotion to Head of Surgery - having only like three people above me out the thirty doctors and medical staff but I'll get into that later.

I'm moving up in the world, even if it's a criminal ladder.

At least I can have snacks again while I watch this bit of drama in my life.
