old  modernverse  was  ren  becoming  a  streamer  as  an  allegory  for  followers  of  a  social  media  personality  being  akin  to  followers  of  a  god  —  with  a  deconstruction  of  both  parasocial  relationships  and  relying  on  the  attention  of  anonymous  strangers  to  fulfill  one's  need  for  validation.  (  even  at  the  cost  of  personal  comfort,  privacy  and  reducing  oneself  to  a  product.  )

new  modernverse  is  just  ❝  mom  didn't  love  me  so  i  invested  in  bitcoin  ❞  with  a  side  of  that  awkward  moment  when  the  criminals  you  agree  to  work  for  turn  out  to  actually  be  criminals  doing  criminal  things  and  faking  your  own  death  is  easier  than  handing  in  a  resignation  notice.

the  objectively  most  important  piece  of  modernverse  lore  is  ren  having  a  "pet"  succulent  plant  called  huh  —  because  someone  asked  him  what  he  was  going  to  name  it  and  he  replied  "huh"  (  in  confusion  )  and  it  ended  up  sticking.

it  may  actually  be  a  fake  plant.  he  isn't  sure;  he  doesn't  know  enough  about  succulents  to  check.  he  just  waters  it  occasionally  and  hopes  for  the  best.

also  as  a  follow  up  to  that  last  unbearably  long  post  from  last  night  —  a  handful  of  miscellaneous  MODERN  AU  headcanons,  which  is  incredibly  self  indulgent  but  i  want  to  yap  about  the  menace.

ren  knows  how  to  pick  locks  and  hotwire  cars  —  however,  he  specifically  learned  to  do  these  things  by  watching  youtube  videos  when  he  was  bored. genuinely his only motivation at the time was that it sounded cool.  he  technically  never  actually  got  his  driver's  license  before  faking  his  own  death,  though  he  did  know  how  to  drive  and  would  occasionally  drive  illegally  if  circumstances  warranted  it.  he  has  a  license  now  —  but  it's  not  actually  real.  (  predominantly  just  there  to  serve  as  a  form  of  identification  if  he  needs  it.  )  it  doesn't  particularly  matter  because  he  doesn't  own  a  vehicle  anyway.

enjoys  parkour  and  generally  climbing  places  he  shouldn't.  trees.  buildings.  this  gets  a  lot  of  mileage  with  his  aforementioned  lock  picking  talent  —  testing  your  home  security  is  a  love  language.  probably.  he  has  zero  boundaries.

every  version  of  ren  tends  to  be  very  emotional,  but  modern  ren  in  particular  is  especially  volatile  and  prone  to  acting  out.  he's  only  twenty  four  —  compared  to  canon  ren,  who  is  nearly  five  hundred.  he  isn't  necessarily  hotheaded,  but  he  lacks  much  of  his  mainverse  counterpart's  self-control  and  sense  of  worldliness.  quicker  to  snap,  quicker  to  lash  out.  he  will  occasionally  raise  his  voice  and  even  curse  —  which  is  generally  something  you  would  never  see  puppet  ren  do.  (  he  much  prefers  to  verbally  eviscerate  through  clever,  cutting  remarks  than  tired  expletives.  )  he's  still  ren,  he's  still  mentally  an  adult  —  he's  just  much  less  mature,  much  less  world-weary  and  much  MORE  raw  when  things  aren't  going  his  way.

still  enjoys  theatre,  dance  and  performative  swordplay  even  if  he  isn't  an  active  participant  these  days.

acts  in  a  way  that  might  lead  one  to  believe  he  has  some  degree  of  agoraphobia  or  social  anxiety,  but  the  truth  is  he  has  a  very  good  reason  to  be  paranoid  in  public.  ren  does  genuinely  have  (  undiagnosed  )  depression  and  has  been  suffering  from  insomnia  since  he  was  roughly  fourteen  or  so.  he's  long  since  given  up  on  trying  to  do  anything  about  it  and  tries  to  compensate  by  grabbing  what  sparse  hours  of  sleep  he  possibly  can  —  then  substituting  the  rest  with  copious  amounts  of  caffeine.

no  pets  beyond  the  neighborhood  cats  he'll  never  admit  to  feeding,  but  he  does  have  a  succulent  plant.

secretly  monitors  the  social  media  accounts  of  his  friends  and  family  members.  sends  very  ominous  anonymous  messages  to  any  internet  strangers  foolish  enough  to  harass  them.  ❝  your  ip  address  is  ■■■■■  and  your  current  location  is  ■■■■■.  do  yourself  a  favor  and  stop  talking. ❞  he's  terrible.  he  also  purposefully  doesn't  tell  anyone  he  feels  protective  over  what  he's  doing  behind  the  scenes  —  and  in  general,  he  has  canon  ren's  tendency  to  refuse  to  share  anything  but  the  most  necessary  scraps  of  information  with  other  people.

similarly,  ren  knows  more  about  the  murder  mystery  currently  at  the  center  of  the  au  than  most  of  the  muses  involved  —  but  doesn't  want  to  reveal  his  findings  because  he's  trying  to  protect  his  family.  he  also  carries  the  unfortunate  family  trait  of  trying  to  shoulder  every  issue  by  himself.

tattoos  that  resemble  kintsugi  on  his  left  arm  and  right  leg.  tongue  is  pierced.  both  earlobes  are  pierced;  he  always  wears  an  earring  that  resembles  a  small,  golden  feather  in  his  left  ear  and  has  an  industrial  piercing  on  that  side  as  well.  keeps  his  nails  painted  and  eyeshadow  on  practically  at  all  times  —  not  for  any  particular  reason  beyond  it  being  a  relatively  simple  and  easy  to  maintain  act  of  self  care  that  makes  him  feel  good.

doesn't  have  his  hat  in  this  verse,  but  he  does  wear  a  jacket  with  a  large  hood  he  can  use  to  cover  his  face  that  effectively  serves  the  same  purpose.

MODERN  AU:  A  SUMMARY.  ... otherwise  known  as  the  verse  currently  taking  up  massive  amounts  of  my  brain  real  estate.

i've  always  liked  to  use  the  metaphor  that  irminsul  is  a  computer  —  or  really,  an  equivalent  of  wikipedia  where  the  information  currently  recorded  on  it  is  pages  is  reflected  in  the  memories  of  the  people  of  teyvat.  that  by  erasing  himself,  scaramouche  effectively  hacked  into  irminsul  and  deleted  his  page.  my  favorite  thing  about  coming  up  with  alternate  universes  for  muses  is  taking  what  foundation  canon  provides  us  and  seeing  how  i  can  translate  it  into  a  different  setting  —  so  for  the  purposes  of  modernverse,  ren  is  a  hacker.  specifically,  the  criminal  sort  (  black  hat,  no  pun  intended  )  specializing  in  identity  theft,  blackmail  and  so  on.  stealing  your  personal  information  and  selling  it  to  the  highest  bidder  —  and  that's  assuming  he  doesn't  have  an  ulterior  motive  to  extort  you  himself.  in  his  spare  time,  he  likes  to  code  ransomware,  make  programs  to  automate  sending  and  responding  to  spam  emails, etc etc.  (  passive  income.  )

his  upbringing  was  generally  quite  lonely.  his  mother  and  aunt  were  close  —  and  he  grew  up  close  with  his  cousin  in  turn,  but  the  majority  of  his  time  was  spent  being  left  largely  to  his  own  devices.  i  think  he  was  one  of  those  kids  who  were  raised  by  the  internet,  and  that's  generally  where  his  fascination  with  technology  first  began  to  take  root.  he  was  probably  the  sort  of  brat  who  would  hack  into  your  neopets  account  to  steal  all  of  your  neopoints  and  valuable  items.  relatively  innocent  crimes  in  the  grand  scheme  of  things,  but  it  certainly  compelled  him  to  begin  thinking  of  cybersecurity  in  a  very  particular  way  —  like  a  puzzle  he  could  solve  if  he  was  up  to  the  CHALLENGE.

around  the  same  time,  he  was  still  preoccupied  with  chasing  his  mother's  approval.  he  would  try  his  best  to  mold  himself  after  makoto  (  consciously  and  subconsciously  )  in  the  hopes  that  resembling  someone  he  knew  she  loved  would  compel  his  mother  to  love  him  as  a  result.  diligently  studying  dance,  growing  out  his  hair.  anything,  anything  to  win  her  validation.  it  didn't  work  —  ei  remained  as  distant  as  ever.  he never  understood  why  his  mother  always  kept  him  at  arm's  length,  but  the  older  he  grew,  the  less  he  could  stomach  it.

and  eventually,  he  reached  his  breaking  point.  dropping  dance,  cutting  his  hair  —  oh,  and  did  he  mention  he's  a  boy?  (  his  name  is  kunikuzushi.  )  shedding  the  proverbial  shackles  keeping  him  tethered  to  his  desperate  pursuit  of  ei's  approval,  kuni  delved  wholeheartedly  into  his  own  interests.  as  it  turned  out,  he  was  something  of  a  prodigy.  a  natural.  a  threat.  he  clung  to  his  talents  for  the  validation  he  wasn't  getting  at  home  —  they  made  him  feel  powerful,  important,  worth  something.  even  if  it  came  at  the  cost  of  taking  advantage  of  other  people.  that  was  just  the  way  this  world  worked,  wasn't  it?

he's  in  his  late  teens  when  aunt  makoto  dies  under  MYSTERIOUS  CIRCUMSTANCES.  his  entire  family  falls  apart,  unraveling  like  a  poorly  knit  sweater.  it's  not  too  long  after  that  kunikuzushi  receives  a  very  peculiar ...  job  offer,  so  to  speak.

the  fatui  are  a  dangerous  bunch.  though  they  maintain  a  relatively  cordial  public  image,  behind  the  scenes  they  are  downright  vicious  in  their  bids  for  power.  it's  a  very  poorly  kept  secret;  everyone  knows  they  have  ill  intentions  —  yet  no  one  can  seem  to  pin  their  criminal  activities  on  them  in  such  a  way  that  they  might  be  held  accountable.  kunikuzushi  quicky  becomes  an  invaluable  asset.  his  particular  skillset  allows  them  to  point  him  in  the  direction  of  any  prospective  threats  and  dig  up  any  information  that  could  potentially  be  used  as  blackmail.  sometimes  it's  simple;  evidence  of  infidelity,  skeletons  in  the  closet.  however,  not  everyone  kuni  targets  dabbles  in  sordid  affairs  behind  closed  doors  —  and  for  those  unfortunate  souls,  he  needs  to  get  a  little  more  creative.  cracking  into  bank  accounts,  collecting  social  security  numbers  and  other  pieces  of  personal  information.  if  all  else  fails,  he  isn't  opposed  to  deliberately  planting  evidence  the  fatui  can  threaten  to  leak.  he  viciously  ruins  countless  lives  over  the  next  few  years  —  but  he  doesn't  care,  because  he  feels  useful  and  powerful.  more  than  he  ever  has  before.

it  all  comes  crumbling  down  when  an  anonymous  message  nudges  him  to  look  into  his  employers.  that  they  aren't  being  entirely  HONEST  with  him.  kuni  regards  it  with  skepticism  at  first,  but  eventually  decides  to  humor  it  —  and  what  he  does  discover  changes  everything.

the  fatui  are  responsible  for  makoto's  death ...  and  they've  been  playing  him  for  a  FOOL  this  entire  time.

considering  the  hole  he's  dug  himself  into,  kunikuzushi  knows  he  can't  simply  quit.  even  if  he  were  to  run  away,  the  fatui  could  simply  target  his  family  members  out  of  spite  —  and  though  his  relationship  with  his  mother  is  rocky,  kaminari  is  someone  he  genuinely  cares  about  who  doesn't  deserve  to  be  dragged  down  by  his  stupid  mistakes.

so  kuni  decides  to  erase  himself.  he  fakes  his  own  death  —  an  electrical  fire  in  his  wire-filled  apartment.  a  corpse  too  burnt  to  retain  any  recognizable  details.  fortunately,  an  anonymous  tip  stops  the  flame  from  spreading  before  any  other  lives  are  claimed  by  the  blaze  —  but  kunikuzushi  is  declared  dead,  and  life  goes  on.

until  six  months  later,  when  a  familiar  face  shows  up  on  kaminari's  doorstep ...  calling  himself  ren.

ren  in  modernverse  is  so  funny,  because  he  has  all  of  canon  ren's  snark  and  weird  humor  but  comparatively  little  trauma  (  emphasis  on  comparatively  )  so  he's  free  to  be  his  most  ANNOYING  self  without  any  existential  dread  holding  him  back.

it  is  now  canon  modernverse  lore  than  ren  was  a  warrior  cats  kid  and  had  an  original  character named  WANDERSTAR  of  TEMPESTCLAN. ( who was definitely not a self insert. )

there  is  SUCH  a  dichotomy  between  the  persona  modernverse  ren  plays  up  on  his  streams  (  and  social  media  )  and  his  actual  self.  that  isn't  to  say  there's  not  some  degree  of  overlap  —  because  there  is.  his  sharp  tongue,  his  blunt  personality,  his  sense  of  humor.  you're  inevitably  going  to  put  up  with  all  three  regardless  of  whether  you're  dealing  with  him  in  person  or  behind  a  screen.  but  when  he  streams,  ren's  sole  goal  above  all  else  is  the  VALIDATION  of  his  viewers.  he  wants  attention  —  he  wants  approval.  (  and  yes,  it  is  super  unhealthy!  thanks  for  asking!  )  so  the  version  of  himself  that  he  shows,  while  still  quite  bratty,  is  purposefully  geared  towards  being  more  palatable.  prioritizing  entertainment  over  displaying  the  full  extent  of  his  raw,  ugly  emotions.  and  that  isn't  even  touching  on  to  what  degree  he  objectifies  himself  —  because  he  knows  he's  attractive,  and  he  knows  he  can  use  that  to  garner  more  attention, more money, more followers.

this  is  in  contrast  to  the  version  of  ren  completely  detached  from  his  fake  internet  persona.  he's  much,  MUCH  more  subdued  by  comparison  —  still  as  snarky  as  ever,  though  in  a  far  less  glamorized  way.  (  not  so  much  for  entertainment  as  he  is  lashing  out  like  a  wounded  animal.  )  he's  quiet;  oft  speaking  in  short,  curt  phrases.  what  energy  he  has  comes  in  fleeting  bursts.  depression  and  insomnia  leave  him  with  a  near-permanent  sense  of  lingering  EXHAUSTION,  even  if  he  hasn't  done  much  to  warrant  it.  he  isn't  shy,  but  he  definitely  gives  off  the  impression  of  someone  deeply  uncomfortable  in  whatever  social  situation  he's  found  himself  forced  into  at  any  given  moment — and that isn't when he's not just purposefully vanishing into the background. your local introvert wants to go home now.

his  intense  discomfort  in  public  is  compounded  by  the  fact  that  he  spent  the  better  part  of  two  years  hardly  ever  leaving  his  apartment  after  the  au's  version  of  tatarasuna  more or less  stripped  away  nearly  every  loved  one  he  had.  it's  taken  another  two  before  he's  been  able  to  start  going  outside  again,  even  in  small  bursts.

understandably,  it's  just  a  bit  jarring  to  see  one  side  of  him  when  you're  only  familiar  with  the  other.  a  living  CONTRADICTION  —  though  he  admittedly  is  in  most  verses.

HERE WE GO  —  the  long  awaited  ren  modernverse  post  that  i  totally  haven't  been  procrastinating  on  for  ages.  (  i  have.  )  i'm  going  to  do  a  very  general  overview  of  the  AU  here,  because  there's  a  lot  of  little  interconnecting  parts  and  headcanons and backstories ( as well as development over discord )  involving  other  muses  and  i  really  don't  want  to  step  on  any  toes  or  necessitate  a  ton  of  required  reading.  just  a  brief *  summary  to  make  interacting  easier.

( * not brief, i can never keep anything short. )

ren  was  born  very  shortly  after  makoto's  death  to  a  mother  understandably  wracked  with  grief.  though  they  had  little  family  to  speak  of,  they  were  quite  well  off  financially  —  owing  to  ei's  status  as  the  ceo  of  a  prolific  power  company.  as  a  way  to  force  some  sense  of  normalcy,  to  cope  with  both the  loss  as  well  as  her  child's  eerie  resemblance  to  her  departed  twin,  ei  threw  herself  body  and  soul  into  her  work.  this  meant  the  majority  of  ren's  childhood  was  spent  completely  alone,  and  though  he  never  had  any  reason  to  want  for  much  materially,  he  was  still  quite  miserable  and  desperate  for  affection.  he  would  do  whatever  he  could  to  possibly  gain  the  ATTENTION  he  craved  —  culminating  in  taking  up  an  interest  in  dance,  of  all  things.  he  had  believed  if  he  could  only  find  one  thing  that  he  was  really  good  at,  and  hone  that  skill  until  he  was  utterly  PERFECT,  perhaps  then  his  mother  would  be  impressed  enough  to  acknowledge  him.

unfortunately,  things  didn't  go  according  to  plan.  he  was  talented  —  incredibly  so,  and  he  certainly  wasn't  lacking  in  ENTHUSIASM  for  the  art.  though  he  received  praise  and  recognition,  he  was  never  able  to  get  it  from  the  one  person  he  was  most  desperate  to  hear  from.  (  just  say  you're  proud.  just  remember  i  EXIST.  )  ultimately  this  led  to  a  lot  of  deeply  unhealthy  resentment  towards  his  mother.  as  a  result,  ren  focused  less  on  the  individual  and  more  on  the  crowd  —  obsessing  over  gaining  the  adoration  of  the  masses.  someone  please  love  him.  someone  please  pay  attention  to  him. he moved out of his childhood home as soon as he was able, and tried to turn his talent into a genuine career.

while  he  did  see  success,  it  wasn't  without  its  downsides.  immense  strain  on  his  body.  repeated  injuries.  he  hurt  himself  —  over  and  over  and  over  again, then kept going regardless.  pushing  himself  to  an  UNHEALTHY  degree  that  could  have  very  well  led  to  permanent  injury  had it  been  allowed  to  go on.

however,  a  certain  incident  when  he  was  twenty  led  to  the  death  of  nearly  everyone  he  loved  —  and  in  his  grief,  ren  could  no  longer  muster  the  will  to  continue.

he  spent  over  a  year  languishing  in  a  very  deep  DEPRESSION,  only  ever  putting forth  the  effort  to  pretend  he  isn't  completely  in  shambles  in  front  of  farrow,  taiyang  and  anhe.  in  time,  he  eventually  stumbled  upon  the  world  of  STREAMING  —  and  while  it  was  never  his  intention  to  make  a  big  deal  out  of  it,  ren  decided  to  give  it  a  go.  he  used  his  streams  mostly  as  an  opportunity  to  vent  his  frustrations  in  a  somewhat  healthy  way  —  doing  something  he  genuinely  enjoyed  (  gaming  )  while  taking  out  his  wealth  of  anger  on  the  teammates  and  enemies  alike  who  irritated  him.  it  was  more  like  an  unconventional  form  of  video  diary.  however,  by  some  strange  stroke  of  luck,  he  actually  began  cultivating  an  audience.

his  pretty  face  was  enough  to  draw  people  in  —  yet  some  decided  to  stay  for  the  entertainment  his  sharp  tongue  provided.  as  his  popularity  grew,  ren's  despair  simmered  to  a  more  manageable  state.  instead,  he  found  himself  slipping  back  into  a  familiar  (  toxic  )  mindset.  valuing  his  self-worth  entirely  on  what  other  people  thought  of  him,  how  much  of�� their  attention  he  could  command,  how  much  money  he  could  earn  from  their  affection.  he's  received  a  fair  bit  of  criticism  for  his  cultivating  of  a  distinctly  PARASOCIAL  relationship  with  his  fanbase  —  but  the  truth  is,  ren  needs  the  recognition  of  his  followers  just  as  much  as  they  crave  recognition  from  him.

MISC HEADCANONS UNDER THE CUT ...

he's  twenty  four  by  default;  he's  been  streaming  for  about  three  years.

farrow is a mod on his streams.

his username is technically ❝ wanderer,  ❞ but he'll also answer to ren — and a lot of his fans do just default to calling him ren.

he  often  gets  just  as  much  hate  as  he  does  positivity,  but  he  doesn't  really  care  because  negative  publicity  is  still  publicity.  someone  once  tried  to  cancel  him  on  twitter  over  his  nasty  personality  and  he  held  an  official  #wandererisoverparty  on  stream  where  he  read  out  hate  tweets with genuine delight.

he isn't the most popular content creator, but he has enough of a following to comfortably pay his half of the apartment's rent and have a line of merch.

ren only ever really leaves the apartment to go on walks through nature or swing through his favorite coffee shop. or break into heizou's house and rearrange the furniture.

doesn't drink often, but has an absurd alcohol tolerance when he does.

he suffers from horrible insomnia and actively has to hide his dark circles with makeup. he tries to compensate by drinking massive amounts of caffeine — which, while effective, has left him with a dependency that gives him splitting headaches whenever he skips out on his tea or coffee.

swears a lot more than canon ren. which is to say, he actually swears at all. in general, the way he speaks and holds himself is more relaxed in comparison — because he has had a rough life, but not to the extent of canon ren, and not for nearly as long.

dresses differently when he's walking around casually verses when he's streaming.

he tends to prefer either pvp games where he can spin his irritation with others into a source of entertainment or calm singleplayer games like minecraft or stardew valley where he can just vibe.

his tongue and both ears are pierced — the left with an additional industrial piercing.

shares his apartment with kazuha! they are boyfriends.

he also has a number of tattoos. some resemble canon ren's markings, others look almost as though his body has been repaired with kintsugi.

i  feel  like  there's  a  few  different  ways  you  could  potentially  tackle  this  question  —  of  course  i  think  the  immediate  assumption  (  or  joke  )  would  be  that  he'd  probably  struggle  to  complete  it,  because  while  he  technically  isn't  a  robot,  he's  robot-adjacent  enough  to  still  qualify.

however,  despite  being  a  puppet,  ren  is  incredibly human.  this  is  one  of  the  core  points  of  his  character  —  heart  or  no  heart,  ei  accidentally  created  an  entire  thinking  and  feeling  person  with  a  distinct  sense  of  self.  biologically  speaking,  he  has  his  quirks,  but  he  isn't  a  puppet  in  the  sense  that  he's  a  just  sentient  piece  of  carved  wood.  he  bleeds,  he  cries,  he  has  bones  and  some  semblance  of  organs  —  even  if  his  internal  anatomy  is  wildly  different  compared  to  an  ordinary  human.  he's  most  definitely  a  person,  despite  what  he  might  say  to  the  contrary  and  despite  what  he's  been  led  to  believe.  going  by  that  logic,  i  think  if  he  were  forced  to  complete  a  captcha  he  would  probably  be  able  to  realistically  pass  it  with  no  significant  issues  —  or  rather,  he  wouldn't  have  more  trouble  than  anyone  else.

...  which  brings  me  to  the  third  and  final  option.  ren  just  really  sucks  at  captchas.

he's  terrible  at  them.  he  thinks  they're  irritating  and  have  a  propensity  for  popping  up  at  the  most  inconvenient  possible  time  —  usually  when  he's  in  the  middle  of  something  else,  so  he  tries  to  speed  through  them  and  makes  simple  mistakes ...  and  ends  up  having  to  redo  them  over  and  over  again  as  a  result.  (  which  inevitably  ends  in  a  vicious  cycle  —  rushing,  mistakes,  repeat.  )  it  doesn't  matter  whether  this  is  vanilla  modern  ren  or  an  offshoot  of  modern  where  he's  still  a  puppet;  it's  a  personality  issue  rather  than  how  he  moves  the  mouse  or  whether  he's  capable  of  solving  a  simple  puzzle. they are the bane of his existence and to add insult to injury, his chat probably makes fun of him for it.

curio  is  very  funny  because  he's  a  perfect  mix  between  scaramouche  and  the  kabukimono.  so  on  one  hand,  he  has  a  somewhat  naïve, somewhat sheltered  understanding  of  the  world  —  but  on  the  other,  he's  filled  with  malice  and  a  desire  to  take  it  out  on  those  he  deems  responsible.  the  end  result  is  an  immortal,  unkillable  cryptid  with  a  taste  for  petty  crime  and  absolutely  no  regard  for  the  consequences.  he  doesn't  know  the  law  and  he  doesn't  want  to.

ren's  alias  /  username  in  modernverse  is  still  "WANDERER"  —  though  he  will  still  answer  to  his  actual  name,  and  most  of  his  fans  tend  to  use  the  two  interchangeably.  the  official  story  is  simply  that  he  liked  the  sound  of  it  —  which  is  true.  however,  there's  also  a  more  personal  (  innocent  )  meaning  to  the  moniker.  while  most  children  were  enamored  with  fantasies  of  growing  up  to  become  astronauts,  celebrities,  doctors  and  the  like,  ren  just  wanted  the  FREEDOM  to  see  the  world.  he  was  far  less  jaded  at  the  time;  filled  with  rose-tinted  ideas  of  a  life  lived  while  wandering  aimlessly  —  of  finally  escaping  the  lonely  home  much  of  his  youth  was  spent  wasting  away  in.

that  dream  quickly  died  as  soon  as  he  was  old  enough  to  realize  it  wasn't  feasible  —  or  REALISTIC,  for  that  matter.  yet  he  still  clings  to  the  name.  perhaps  out  of  some  unspoken  tenderness  for  his  past  self.  perhaps  as  his  way  of  paying  homage  to  that  childhood  dream.  he  certainly  won't  offer  any  answers.

curio  is  the  funniest  era  of  scrunkly  because  on  one  hand  he  still  maintains  enough  innocent  wonder  about  the  world  to  scramble  up  trees  and  get  outwardly  excited  about  new  things,  but  he  also  bitterly  hates  everyone  besides  one  specific  automaton  and  lacks  the  ability  to  do  much  about  it  beyond  accidentally  become  the  subject  of  countless  urban  legends.  and  occasionally  get  arrested.
