Surge doesn't actually know if she ever had a type. She tends to be drawn to one of two kinds of people-- those who challenge her, or those who accept her radically, and unconditionally. She also would never be able to tell if someone was interested in her unless they spelled it out, simply because it's not something she thinks about. In a similar vein, she would not be a very attentive partner-- be it due to her volatile temper, inability to empathize, or her own massive insecurity.

She doesn't remember her family even a little, Starline's meddling with her mind affected her memory more heavily than she probably even realizes. What she does know is that she holds a place of deep resentment for them-- they didn't try to find her, and if they were already gone, then they had clearly abandoned her during one of the worst times imaginable, leaving her vulnerable enough for this to happen to her-- if it wasn't Starline, it would have been Eggman, or some alien, or anything else.
