when he assured his high lord he would learn what he could of the summer court through the younger lady, alistair had not factored in taking an immense liking to the nerina nor this ever growing attracting he felt towards her. he was not a hard man to please, but forming attachments romantically had never been something he excelled at, reiterated in his years of becoming involved with women, he had yet to settle down. while that had never been a priority simply because he enjoyed his freedom, every so often he wondered what it felt like to have another waiting for him after a long day. the commander wondered if he would ever know a love like that, and as a man who did not entertain cynicism, he had kept his mind open to the possibility. he did dimly wonder if his best friend would object to his growing fondness for the high lady's younger sister.
it was to no surprise that alistair once more was in the company the pretty, and rather cheeky younger summer lady. he had found that all of them stuck to the familiars they had befriended outside of their family, and they had all the more reasons to put their minds together and learn what they could. one of my many excuses the commander had to be near nerina. just an hour prior he had shown up at her room announced, persuading her to explore the city of this court. in doing so both, learning what he could but in the same breath spending time with her. "i am surprised you haven't tried to befriend one of those dragons yet." he teased as they walked down a path of shops, his gaze idly checking to see if they came across any book shops since the lady beside him enjoyed those. he had no vested interest in going near the creatures, but it wouldn't hurt to learn more of them, given the way they kept an eye on the new faces. "or ride one." he tossed a moment later. "my offer is still on the table, should you find yourself frightened you're welcome to my bed."

her silence and evasiveness had certainly left the commander's mind spinning each time he attempted to inquire. now, as curious as he was, he had been careful in his inquiring, never too direct but slipping in tidbits of his own childhood in day court in hopes that she'd share hers. what she did share however were vague bits that did began to connect over time, but never quite fully forming a complete picture. the only thing she'd offered him entirely was tales of her travels as he'd once requested from her but whenever the topic circled to her court, it wasn't hard to miss how nerina went out of her way to either change the topic or return it to him. what she did share was how beautiful her court was, what her people were like as whole but of the dragomirs? nothing. it certainly had fueled his suspicions of what was spoken between him and cedrian, of whatever he could uncover from high lady alina - which was also not much it seemed. perhaps another in his place would see this as something to wary of, but it seemed neither his high lord nor alistair himself would ever. it did nothing to dissuade the commander, when he'd all but found himself tangled into a complication of wanting this lady in his arms more than anything else. he should be wary of what he could find, but he was not, only perhaps a different ache of what had gone in her family that left her so tight-lipped. so when he urges her to share, even now as he all but reveals how much he wishes to be with her, wants to embed himself in every bit of her being, her words do cause him to pause. his gaze shifting fully to meet her, not entirely surprise of her words but in the manner that she spoke them. "i will give you all the time, so long as you intend to open yourself to me." he knew he couldn't push, but what he could do was show her how he would be here. that their little game that had began had evolved into something that neither expected and neither could fight. tucking her hair gently behind her ears, he pressed a kiss to her temple, "i will do what i can to make it just a bit easier for you each day." it was then he knew, without a doubt, she had never allowed anyone and it was a terrifying thought for her, but then wasn't it for him, too? a man who never wished to settle, certainly not after watching his best friend grieve his wife and the love his life as he had, now wanted nothing more than to call this captivating his lady own? it was gamble for him too. her words do send his racing, "together." he repeats in a lower murmur, relieve settling in him to hear her confirm he wasn't alone in this.
truly, it was hard to believe she thought herself as a wallflower, when nothing about her from her beauty, to her quick wit, and sense of humor would ever have another draw that conclusion. he supposed he hadn't helped matters when he knew, they both knew he'd perused initially only for his high lord's sake. then so had she, he was aware of this too. did his actions somehow add cause to her thoughts of herself? he supposed he'd be working every moment they had together to prove to her she was nothing of that sort in his gaze . everything about her was unforgettable, how else would he describe every night he'd laid awake in his bed longing to go to her? how he was counting minutes and hours until he could see her next when he was tied up in commander duties. "it never was true, just because you believe so, doesn't make it so, my lady." he murmured, but his words and voice were entirely firm. "nothing about you can be mistaken for a wallflower. perhaps you did not notice, but i did, of every male gaze here that turned in your direction when you made your way to me here." alistair took great pleasure in this because she had been focused on the commander that she did not notice her admirers. he doesn't waste a moment when he see's the yearning in her gaze that reflects his own, claiming her mouth in a searing kiss that left no room for doubt. the moment she returned kiss with equal passion, she had told him all that he wished to know. she was his. he never quite denied himself his desires, but with her it had been a first he had waited, showed such an incredible amount of patience that certainly had been worth it. "i will always be here to catch you, nerina, i swear on my life. you don't trust easily, i will prove to you, i can be trusted." he pressed another lingering kiss to her lips, shifting back enough to peer into her gaze. "do you still wish to be here? i wish to be alone with you." he would leave it up to her what she wished to do, but he was certain he wasn't mistaking her desire.
the way she was raised had created a tangle of memories with sharp edges and wounds that never fully healed. spots in her soul that scarred over and still ached from time to time. nerina didn't like to think of her childhood, of the sounds her father's feet made as they echoed through the halls of the summer court. children's laughter wa rare, warm hugs forgotten, and care from a parent all but impossible. staff stepped in, tried to help, but it could only do so much. her siblings were distant portraits more than close friends, even if that changed as of late. her father was a myth more than a man, focused on his own vices and alina rather than the rest of them. and her mother ? a ghost that lingered in nerina's reflection but never stayed long enough to actually help the girl. in truth, if nerina talked of her childhood it would come across as if she didn't love her siblings, and she did so incredibly fiercely. but love wasn't enough to save them from their childhood, and in their adulthood it wasn't easy to navigate one another. the way they grew up all formed their traumas, and nerina's had taken on the habit of being incredibly guarded and running away from everything. so in her unwillingness to share her family with alistair, it had far more to do with her mind and her upbringing than not trusting him. his request makes her bite her lip, and the only words she can share are, " be patient with me, alistair. some parts of my soul are hard to share. " the admission flies from her tongue with an ease she hadn't expected, and she hopes that he understands. she needs him to understand. even if it hadn't been meant to happen – if alistair was meant to mean nothing to her, bounding into her life with his charm and arrogance, a tongue slicked with wit and dangerous intentions – he'd changed all her plans. that flirty banter of his no longer seemed laced with bad intentions, but desires that threatened to pull her under. his sharp arrogance turned into a charming confidence, and nerina found that she wanted to linger in his orbit just a little longer each time. he wasn't just another face in the crowd anymore, not a temporary thrill to pass the time. he was someone she wanted. letting him in would be terrifying, but she knew she needed to. alistair wasn't someone who wanted to tame her either, he was someone who complimented her very soul. " i think we're already doing that together. " she mumbles, caught up in the heightened moment, the emotions swirling in her chest taking over.
nerina had always been a wallflower, even when she was surrounded by friends or family who spoke to her there had always been a part that lingered in the shadows. she preferred it this way, safe and able to observe at the edge of the space. it was safe there, quieter. for someone who wasn't a social butterfly unless she needed to act like one, wasn't happy to be at events like this, it was quite substantial that she would happily endure it with alistair at her side. he changed her, he saw her in a way nobody other than her siblings ever had before. and he found her in the place she'd often gotten overlooked. they didn't meet on her ship, or in a tavern where she came to life, they met at court where she remained at the edge of the room. " maybe not anymore. " she agrees. her siblings were used to her disappearing, they wouldn't look for her because they knew she was fine. it wasn't a lack of care but an understanding of who she was. but alistair, he may know her but he would still notice anything she did. and when they kissed it felt like sealing her fate in a way she never expected to want before. the taste of him lingered on her lips, a promise and a challenge all at once. alistair was something entirely new to her, someone who didn't fit into her life but carved out a space for himself that none other could ever fit. she couldn't get enough of him either, so when he deepened the kiss she was happy to let him, the flavor of his lips bursting in her mouth and making her want more. she wouldn't have pulled away, but the distant sound of music reminds her that they are still at the festival. his words send a thrill down her spine, and she feels herself clinging to him at this point. " only if you promise to always catch me. " because stars, she was already falling so hard.

alistair was a man who loved surprises, a man who had always a wild streak, surprises went hand in hand. however, this was one perhaps he was the most conflicted about. not so much that they were in an unknown place, but rather the fae around them that had been on their own, never had mingled with any of the other existing courts. were he a man not responsible for a court, after his high lord, he'd perhaps appreciate their surroundings more. now, the commander of the day court was not suspicious by nature, he believed in giving others the benefit of doubt, it is for that reason he'd wait to make an opinion on this court or it's faes. it was just a bit concerned they had no idea where they were in prythian precisely. where they near the solar courts? the middle somewhere between the seasons? or near the capital? thoughts that he'd store for later to speak to ced with, and as he awoke just awhile back in the gardens, his eyes surveyed the sky. the rather stunning looking creatures that dominated the dusky sky. his attention pulled when he heard footsteps, and when he caught the flash of that familiar raven hair, he appeared beside the younger lady of summer. "tell me how one ends up awake in the middle of a garden." alistair dusted the dirt off his shirt before his dark gaze inspected nerina, "are you well?"

flirting for ulterior motives was not something he was proud of, as he certainly did not flirt or dally with women for anything other than pleasure. he had never been type to use someone to get another, and he had no personal interest in lady alina, but more so that he needed to ensure ced's infatuation with nerina's sister did not influence him on this. "from the moment we could speak. i've been by his side since we were toddlers." perhaps a bit too much information, but it was not as alistair hid how close he was with high lord or that they were in fact, best friends. it was deeper that that, they were like brothers, and the trust and bond between them entirely of it's own league. he would not insult the lady's intelligence by lying, if her gaze nothing away, he was not naive enough to assume she did not suspect him, or his flirting even for a moment. while her responses to him were genuine enough, her interest? that remained to be seen, and why he wished for her interest, he wasn't sure but he would be lying if he didn't say a part of him was also flirting simply for himself. he was still alistair, the man who could not resist a pretty face, in this case a beautiful one that came with a quick tongue, and mind. "its not consistent because i'm certain those words were only designed to keep women from living as they wish." well, he believed so. it was unfair, the high lords could do what they wished but the noble women, and sisters of the high rulers were asked to be entirely docile. "i do not blame you for not wishing to remain in court. does having a sister as high lady give you more freedom?" he didn't know how close they were to assuming anything. aside from ced, most high lords were known to be quite strict with their sisters in particular, not a thought he could agree with, he could not imagine being controlling over his own baby sister. "i am certain you could. you don't strike me as the type to entertain someone against your will." his gaze twinkled, almost a challenge in his gaze as he took yet another step closer to her, deliberately invading a bit of her personal space, "you don't dislike my presence? ah, such high praises, nerina." he teased, his head tilting as he watches her for moments longer, "that is not the word most would use to describe their fondness for my company." though her words certainly left a challenge, a bit of a dangerous thought, but dislike was not one word he could settle for. "i see i have my work cut out so that my presence might be viewed as highly desired rather than not disliked." a brow roses, "so far you've been quite..opinionated with your thoughts. no matter, i can be quite persuasive." he says with confidence that almost borders cockiness.
"you'll find i'm quite daring in all aspects of my life. i've not sailed before, so consider me intrigued." his voice just a notch lower than usual. "i do expect that invitation once we are freed from the capital." the thought of being on sea on a boat certainly did not frighten him, but it said much about this younger summer lady. "I am disappointed that the beautiful lady of summer was once in my court and I had no knowledge. perhaps it's time we make a visit to each other's courts. you speaking so fondly of your court has piqued my interest." summer nights oddly fitted with nerina rather well. "i thought it was quite obvious that's what i was implying. your masks only hinders me from admiring a beautiful face that willingly wanders in my direction. are you daring enough to do so for a gentlemen asking?" questionable if he was a true gentlemen, but he removes his. her cheek response certainly sends a thrill through the commander, and he steps closer, leaning in and catching a whiff of her rather alluring scent, "perhaps the lady should not tease a commander." he responses without missing a beat, "we men like pretend we have strong egos, but it's quite fragile." he continues in a jest, or that he simply did not mind being led astray by her. "romantic tales? that's surprising to learn. we'll exchange them, you tell me yours and i will share mine of my court." it was never a chore to speak of his court. he chuckled at her quip,"isn't the best one, the one you do not look for, but find anyway? it's been my observation so far. although, ideally, i'd enjoy it if she did fell onto my lap." he winked. he's curious simply because it was how it happened with ced. he'd not gone looking for love or for lady ellena, he'd been set to marry another, only to then to find his heart accosted by his late wife. he'd not made an effort to look, but he had never dismissed the idea of finding his other half. it made him dimly wonder did he not strike her as the type to wish to settle down? alistair wouldn't deny he enjoyed his freedom, but if the right one made an appearance he sensed he wouldn't have a choice in that matter. "how about you? the reader of romantic tales, are you searching for yours?" her giggles and laughter certainly told him, nerina enjoyed his company, and alistair planned to take full advantage of that, a bit for duty, and a greater part for himself. "i would not ask it, my lady, I would demand it." keeping his dark gaze on her, "so we will be sharing that meal. how's tomorrow? I have nothing but time lately here." his duties didn't take over his entire day.
nerina may not seek social situations willingly in many regards, but she couldn't help but count herself lucky that speaking to the commander of the day court was not as tedious as she had expected. while she could certainly tell he was flirting, likely to gain some in with her, it didn't disturb her like with others. nerina almost found herself wishing it were genuine, but the lady wasn't foolish. people often only spoke to her in order to befriend or get closer to her sister. unfortunately for them, she was too clever for that. " how long have you two known one another ? " she imagined some time, a second in command needed to be one you could trust implicitly. nerina assumed the lord of day would not send his commander in to befriend the sister of a high lady unless he was trusted. this one was a smooth talker too, she could also assume that he did his job quite well. a laugh slips from her lips at his wink, and she can't help but shake her head gently. " the idea of a proper court lady in itself isn't even consistent these days. i find many of the stereotypical ones aren't kind at all. " which is why she avoided court. " i am quite certain that if i wished to discourage you from my company, i could. luckily for you, i don't dislike your presence. " she replies without missing a beat. nerina often kept most of her cards to her chest, close and tucked away even, but she didn't mind sharing that his company wasn't loathsome. besides, the lady quite enjoyed seeing how one would react to a compliment, would their ego inflate to the size of the space or would they take it well ? she was curious about the day fae more than she should be. " perhaps i shall be, perhaps not. " she says in a slight hum.
" you shall enjoy it all over again, then. if you are daring enough,. i might even allow you to visit my ship. " she learned much of people onboard. those who could handle feeling out of control, at the mercy of she and the sea. would he do well or winnow away ? would he even take her up on the offer ? few ever did. " the summer sun can be quite beautiful, but a warm summer night on the beach will always reign supreme. " she counters. it was a perfect blend of her. " a few times. i visit the night court often and while i prefer sailing, sometimes we travel on land to tour the courts. i've not visited the capital of the day court in some time, though. " she shares. ner glances towards alina, and she knows her sister would not truly be upset. she simply didn't wish for another to see her as misbehaving. " you can admit you just wish to see my beautiful face fully, my lord. " comes her cheeky tease, a smile to accompany it turning into a laugh when she sees she's strung him along just as intended. " you should not be so easy to lead astray, your mind is quite telling, commander. " she replies with another giggle. " i prefer romances, or old tales of the days long before any fae alive remembers. adriata has many, as well as here. " though she'd already read everything at least once. it was tiresome, some stories good enough to read over and over again but their longevity making it difficult to find something new. nerina tilts her head at the commander for a moment, truly trying to read the other. " you do not seem against finding the one to hold your heart, but i do not see you actively searching either. do you imagine she might fall from a tree into your lap ? " a slight tease, but in truth, his demeanor was a tall tale of the type of things he sought. she wasn't judging, no room to, but he certainly didn't seem the hopeless romantic like she. nerina laughs once more, amused at how smooth the other was. " you can simply ask to share more of my time, my lord. i would agree. " after all, he wasn't a bore. " then i shall tell you them over a meal. " she agrees.

it was the rather inquisitive glint in the other's gaze that caught his eye, he was certain she did her best to conceal it, yet like him, she was curious by nature. now, there was a chance perhaps happen to know a lot more than she might have about their high rulers. there were hardly any secrets between him and his best friend and high lord. in order for him to be the commander the other would want him to be, there could be no secrets between both men. for alistair it was less about what his best friend was doing, but rather if nerina's eldest sister could be trusted. if there was to be an alliance between them, alistair did not want any surprises from their potential allies in the future. it also helped that speaking to younger lady of summer was rather appealing, his night had been a bit of drag, and she was turning it around splendidly. "it comes with the territory of my title. my high lord cannot have anyone less by his side." the easy smile on his lips never leaving, gaze not leaving hers when it finds his. alistair had a taken this moment to just brag a bit about himself, after all, he was still a man speaking to a beautiful woman - personal motives aside. it was his turn to laugh now, "i would never imply such a thing, while you do not fall into the mold of a proper court lady, i do not doubt your not kind. though either way, that hardly will discourage me away from your company - kind or not." he added with a wink. he did not know her well enough to say with certainty, though she did not strike him as cruel, looks could be deceiving. his words rang sincere nonetheless, she may look the part of a lady, but he had pulled together bits of her as they spoke and carried herself. if her disinterest in their surroundings was not obvious enough. this was a bit of a new thing for him as well, to get closer to a woman other than for himself, and while he wasn't sure how he felt about doing so, the commander knew it had to be done. truly, he had no ill-will not or any ill intentions, that anyone who cared for their high ruler and court would do the same. "likewise, my lady. i hope you can speak freely with me." if anything he should be threading carefully, he was speaking to a lady of a high family, but he suspected she also did not mind his frankness.
"once, when i was a boy, but I imagine a lot has changed since then. I do recall your court with fondness, and adriata certainly gave me a new appreciation for the seas." he and ced and their family had made a trip to adriata as children, he wondered if it was as beautiful there as he recalled from his existing memories, or perhaps more so with time? "odd, certainly, but a charming thing to share in common, wouldn't you say? if anyone understands the love of the sun day has, it would be you and your court." he tilts his head, "have you visited day?" while he enjoyed the water from time to time, he doubts he would wish to stay on a ship for very long, but certainly something he could appreciate. nerina was a water fae, so it was not surprising she lived in it majority of the time. "that's quite considerate of you. if it makes you feel any better, I doubt anyone will notice if we remove ours. I'll join you. do you think she'd be cross with you, if you did?" almost everyone was too preoccupied with their own shenanigans to notice a few bare faces. his gaze gleamed in mirth as she ended her sentence so innocently, "why, you almost had me , nerina. perhaps I should not be surprised, you don't care for the company of most, so books would be the next option. it must be quite the tales you are reading to be so...taken by them." alistair was curious what she took to in her stories, "so what are these tales that keep you company well into the night?" as a commander he was educated thoroughly, and while he took upon a few mystery books now and then, he preferred his hobbies outdoorsy. alistair always appreciated a well-read individual. he smirked a bit, "if i had fallen in love, said woman would returning to day court with me. what If I do wish to fall in love? is it surprising?" he can't help but inquire, in truth he was not opposed to the idea, he simply never found another he took the way his best friend had. he's had a few relationships outside of his dalliances, but they had never been all too serious. he flashes her a look of mock disappointment, "my lady that is a hasty judgement of someone you've just met. I suppose the only way to prove how interesting the commander of the day court can be is to spend time with me and find out." he took another step closer to her, "I'm certain your tales will be as enticing, if not more so, then the run of the mill i hear."
nerina may be a bit of a wallflower, but she was hardly foolish. she didn’t think the day commander simply approached her because she were a pretty lady. he did so with the same intentions she had for speaking to him. to share that or to continue to pass pleasantries, though ? she didn’t know him well enough to know if that would benefit or hinder her own mission. dimly, the knowledge that she should badger alina whispered in the back of her mind. “ you’ve caught on quicker than most, then. ” she shares with a small laugh as she meets his gaze. eye contact was never difficult for the lady of summer, and she felt you could tell far more from what was held within he orbs of another than their voice. the commander offered more questions than answers, his gaze on her bordering those that looked upon her with lust and those who looked upon her as if she were a gateway to her sister. it didn’t unsettle her like often it would, but rather only made the lady ever more curious as to what he desired. not just from her, but in general. at the very least, this conversation was not draining her like most did, and she no longer regretted attending this ball. “ i never said i was unkind. ” she counters with an amused sparkle in her eye. “ and i admire those who do not shy away from saying what they wish to. ” she adds, amused that he’s already certainly doing just that. it was refreshing, she tired of those who danced around the subject.
“ have you visited summer ? people find it odd when i share that the weather mirrors that of the day court quite closely. “ admits she. her visits to day were never long, but she’d still seen it plenty. “ it’s bothersome and uncomfortable. i have a desire to shed it but i fear my sister would take the blame for that. ” she didn’t think alina would care, but nerina did think others would take notice and find some way to use it in an opinion against her sister. the younger sister of summer refused to allow that. when his voice dips into an octave that brings nerina’s brow to raise, she offers a smirk to the lord. she could flirt, but the lady enjoyed keeping people on their toes. “ oh i quite enjoy being secluded with the very, very entertaining company… of a book. ” she says slowly so he might form his own assumption of where her sentence would lead. she could have shared her desire of travel, or of being on her ship, but this would likely offer a far more amusing reaction. or a better conversation than they were already having. was he a well read commander or did he busy himself with other hobbies ? it was strange for her to desire this information, but nerina wrote it off as this being one of the few good conversations she’d had with someone not of her own court since being in the capital. “ i would be more surprised if your answer had been that you’d fallen in love and did not wish to leave. ” she teases. “ if you wish to hear of shopping and nights in taverns, my lord, i am certain i would not be a rarity with them. ” she says with a small laugh. “ i suppose you could be as interesting as my books. ”

he had been careful when inquiring of her family as a whole, and as he expected nerina did not reveal much. it had taken a few more encounters and flirtatious remarks, subtly watching her reaction when he spoke of her siblings, that he did begin putting the pieces together, combined with what cedrian had mentioned to him in passing. alistair long suspected that these secrets that remained hidden behind her gaze were tied to that of her siblings she would not reveal. even if she wished to share with alistair ( a part of him hoping nerina would so that he understand her better ), she would not, perhaps out of protecting her elder sister. it made the him wish to uncover all of it, not as commander but as a man who had caught foreign feelings for this captivating woman. like her elder sister, nerina too had a habit of keeping her walls up, and all that he had learned barely scratched the surface of the sea captain. "i would only ask that you return that privilege and allow the same opportunity for the woman who refuses to leave my mind." he was certain this young lady of summer had casted some sort of a spell on him, one he was happily lulled into. try as he might, he would never quite be able pin point when this shift happened, when he went from wishing to know summer's secrets to knowing all that he could of her. that all the banter and flirting exchanges would have the commander entirely ensnared by her. how each morning he awoke, it was with the thought that he would see her, be able to charm her, make her laugh and occasional moments when she revealed how she felt about him, he could slip further into her heart. it was thrilling and frightening all the same that another could cement herself within him. alistair never chased love, but had always wanted it, despite his habits of flings, he had wanted his other half that so many around him we're blessed to have. the more time he spent with her, the more he was beginning to wonder if this wild summer lady was the one he'd been searching for unknowingly? "i do not mind sinking, darling, so long as you will do so with me." this not meant in a negative light but rather that he'd drown in her without hesitation, if he hadn't already.
the sound of her melodic laughter fills the space between them, whatever little remained as he held her to so close, one might truly wonder what he intended. "i doubt that to be true." he didn't know what went on in the dragomir household other than what they knew of late high lord of summer. still, it wasn't a far off thought that the dragomirs didn't have the childhood the asters did. the brief moments she gave him a window in her gaze, he searched, studying her for several moments in silence as he saw too many emotions flicker across her gaze but gone before he could fully dissect them. he stores this thought for another time, when he wasn't fighting off his desires to kiss her, but one he didn't resist when she did not move way. ones encouraged as she continued to trace patters on his chest, gazing at him with the desire that was reflected in his own gaze. he nearly groans when she melts into his kiss, a hand stroking the cheek he cupped and the other in an iron like grip around her frame as waves of pleasure danced across his skin. the taste of her filled her senses and he deepened the kiss, tasting every inch of her delectable mouth when she did not resist and instead yielded to him. stars, it felt as if his entire body was set aflame, embers streaking through his veins as their lips moved in tune. gods, he didn't wish to stop, could not stop, and it seemed like she didn't wish to either. when they do break, to catch their breath, his lips linger near hers, keep her close, "does that answer your question?" a low raspy rumble of words as his fingers tightened around her waist. "will you have me, nerina?"
it was an unbreakable connection, the energy that crackled between the two of them. nerina let her sister's words filter into her ears once more, to hear that there was no doubting what her soul knew to be true. the commander could have very well started this thing between them to learn of the woman that had captured his own high lord, but that shifted within their banter. within the ways they found and gravitated towards one another and the way their hearts seemed to pull together despite the summer lady trying to cage it away. his response to her saying she felt he still hid things in terms of his intentions doesn't go unnoticed, and she bites her lip when her insecurities try to claw out of her chest. nerina can't think of a response, and she wonders if by not replying, he'd think she didn't hear his muttered words. she glances down, eyes cast to his chest and attempting to reign in her thoughts. his second offering pushes something inside of her, something she can't quite define. " what if i wish to know everything ? " questions she, eyes casting up and meeting his own gaze once more. she lets her vulnerability shine, and for once in her life, the wallflower of the summer court does not push it back down. the moments pass between them, and she feels like he's reading everything she's been too scared to admit. nerina still can't find the means to speak, she still can't push herself to say much aloud, but the pirate captain realizes she also can't keep pretending she possesses no emotion towards the day commander. she smiles, then, and knows he won't ever find a way to underestimate her. for once, someone looks at nerina and sees far more than the quiet summer lady, content to run off. he doesn't just see who she is at court, and write her off. he doesn't just see who she is around her crew, or in some shitty little tavern as they laugh and drink. he sees all of her. " underestimating them is surely a way to sink. " she mumbles.
it's electric, the way his skin against her own feels. the way she can feel the burning sun radiating from his very being. dressed as a lion, but he could practically be the sun right now. she laughs, and offers him a cheeky smile. " my presence was hardly missed, my older sisters were meant to deal with all of this. " not the younger who left the moment she could. not the fae who didn't even go to her own father's funeral. she didn't want to. would alistair judge her for that ? something in the possessive way he held her made nerina certain that would not be true. if he knew a fraction of what legion made them endure, he would understand. but those were not only her stories to share, she didn't want to expose everything of her past and thus that of her siblings. not just yet. everything seems to slow the moment his dark gaze sears into hers, the way he cups her cheek like a lover, not just two ships passing in the night. it's more tenderness than she's ever experienced, and nerina's legs threaten to buckle as the swell of the emotions crash over her in waves. when he kisses her, there is no mistaking the fireworks sparking through the space they inhabit. the way that every fiber of her being sizzles as if it was on edge for this very moment. there's no denying it, the reaction he earns from the summer lady is unlike any other before. he tastes of a burning sun, of all that ego and wit in one addictive bundle. she doesn't want it to stop, she doesn't care that they aren't alone.

just how much had the high lady shared with her younger sister? he did wonder had nerina approached him for the reason that she seemed to know of an alliance forming between their courts, or that she wished to do the same bit of spying on the day court as he did of their summer court? as his studied her subtly, dark gaze appraising her enough but giving nothing away, her own gaze was discernible as his own. "i am starting to sense that." he murmured, dark gaze lingering on her pretty younger summer lady with piqued curiosity, as his charming smile remained in place. though the smile was entirely sincere as he felt his night take a turn for the better. he did gather enough in the moments to know that while she had no trouble fitting into the socials, still there was a sense of disinterest in her surroundings that made itself known, even if briefly. gone now, it seemed for the moment, as she was occupied with him, but alistair knew this parties were not everyone's cup of tea. he knew handful of people, including his own best friend that had little enthusiasm these soirees. "i believe a lady can be many things, not just one or the other, my lady. kindness is a virtue i admire, but it does not need not be the only thing a lady possess. i happen to admire those who do not attempt to fit into a pre-determined mold." the commander held her gaze with a faintest grin. there was no doubt nerina made her own rules, certainly something he respected. he had spent most of his rebelling his late father's expectations, though ironically still ended up in a position he had wished to avoid all his life.
"that is because nor you or i are used to draping so many layers. we are the faes who thrive in the sun." their climates were beyond warm, perhaps edging on hot, but alistair did not mind it as most would. "i don't know about you, but the masks are certainly not helping." truly, he past caring and he doubt anyone was paying him any mind so he tugs his off before his gaze returned to her features, a brow arching an inch "is that so? where does the younger elusive lady of summer spend her time at?"his voice dipping just a bit as he took a step closer to her. while he possessed a adventurous streak, he would never quite take the leap of being away from his home for months at a time. once when he the chance he could have but after taking on the role of second in command, that was as quickly forgotten. his travels only extended to the solar courts, but if this alliance between their courts came to be, he sensed they would be making a trip or two to summer. a part of him also hoped that not would be the case frequently, not because he didn't wish to see the court that perhaps was the most relatable to his own, but he did not wish to have cedrian spending any more time with the high lady of summer than he already would here. "it will certainly be a long, long while before any one of us wish to make our way here anytime soon." had she made her way to the day court, and how had he not known? " I imagine you have many tales to share of your traveling. perhaps I ought to call upon you another day to hear all of them. do you think you can spare some time for the commander of the day court?"
nerina didn't feel comfortable enough to yet poke into her sister's behaviors. to question who she spoke to and why. it felt as if she would be undermining her high lady, when in reality she was just a nosy younger sister. her disinterest in court and its functions would make that suspicious, and she didn't expect alina to divulge everything if she asked. her hope was that the second of day knew enough to connect some dots, and if not, well, he was a pretty face to speak to. " i do not fit into most categories stereotypical of a lady. " nerina never had, a wanderlust filled heart and a desire to never wear skirts, she'd been a handful from birth. " though, who is to say those should be the most common traits ? " she teases lightly. nerina didn't bother herself with societal norms, she had never much cared for what people expected of her and what she did not possess. it didn't bother her, she was the fae she was meant to be, fitting in a category or not.
nerina's hand drifts down to the skirts she was coming to not hate, shifting the material a bit to allow a breeze to slip through the high slit. this is why she hated such dresses, they were too hot. a small laugh slips from her lips when he seems to struggle with the same as she. " it is, i may be a creature of the summer, but i despise too many layers in this weather. " she lets him off the hook for his attire, not one to judge too much when someone wishes to show some skin. she merely liked to tease. " you are quite welcome, my company is a rarely found thing. " she shares. nerina was a wallflower through and through, a creature of the libraries rather than parties. she may be related to alina, but the younger sister did not possess the same skill at socializing as the high lady. " if a party is something one enjoys. " she notes. " it is not, but it shall be my last for quite some time. i've traveled everywhere in prythian at least once. "

he needn't remark how she enjoyed it, it was evident in those pretty eyes of her that gleamed in amusement and the laugh she offered. while his words of not needing luck may have been too presumptuous, she'd yet to prove him wrong on that front. alistair would not go as far as to claim he always had good good luck, but in this particular case since his meeting this alluring lady of summer, he'd like to thing fates had been partial to him. "that was not by design, my lady." he murmured, it had been initially, but truly he wondered just how well he had been hiding the draw he felt towards her these days. surely, she'd had seen glimpses of his attraction to her, how he thoroughly enjoy being around her, and how frequently he monopolized her time. "what you wish to know, all you need to do is it ask of me." the commander could not pin point all his emotions that made itself known around her, but he was no daft enough to deny all that she made him feel. he had attempted to reign in those initially, but she made it impossible to do so. not when every moment he had to himself, he longed to be near her, hold her, kiss her as he thought of it every moment he was alone in the privacy of his chambers. seven hells, he'd almost showed up at her chambers far too many times before he realized how he would perceived. the gentler tone nerina used this time was not gone amiss, and that strange humming in his heart gradually intensified as he gazed at her. she kept her features carefully neutral, but perhaps it was the privilege of time he'd had to pick up on her tell tales. not a far fetched thought that she was perhaps keeping her guards until she knew what his intentions were. "i believe they are deceptive in that manner ; only a fool would underestimate them." and you. he kept his leveled to her, no longer only speaking of the waters, but of the lady in his arms that crawled her way into the deepest parts of his heart.
he watches her reactions closely, when he tugged her closer, lowered his face until the inches between began to wane. every piece of her responses enables him further until he begins to see the bouts of desire in her gaze. coupled with how her delicate hands seem to explore his exposed skin so freely, and alistair once more takes liberties, using the hand that held her, his finger tips trace down her spine, feeling the warmth of her flesh through the dress, scorching his hand in the best ways possible. "now that sounds entirely how i expect the young untamed lady of summer to behave. still, you move along with me with ease. perhaps you only needed the right partner to cease your running." now, he wasn't out of the danger of her doing so just yet, but he'd damn well make sure after tonight it would not longer be a cause of worry. when his lips trail over features and find her ear, the gasp heard was like music to his ears, the sort of response he'd been yearning for, but she delivers a surprise of her own when her challenge follows in suit. she doesn't answer his question, but she doesn't need to, it was the way she responded in his arms that it didn't matter, either way she was going to end up right in his arms. he pulls back enough to peer into her hues, his own darkened with unspoken desires as he reaches to cup her chin, the other arm tightening around her waist and lining her flush against him. when his lips finally claim hers, he suppresses a groan as her softness molds into his hardness, her lips a mixture of sea salt and her own sweetness, two melding to create an addicting taste that he wished to feast upon every moment. the kiss he claims from her leaves no doubt of what his intentions were, it was laced with promises, and several others he could not name but could only allow her to feel.
laughter tumbles from nerina's frame. " so cocky. " but she enjoyed it, which was amusing considering it was normally a behavior she detested. it didn't surprise her in the slightest that he didn't believe in luck, the arrogant commander must come by a lot. " you seem so certain in knowing my intentions, but your own seem veiled yet. " she says in a soft voice, an admission of her insecurities. it's a test, how he deals with her more raw side. alina's words echo in her mind, of just what she knew and what she felt. of denying that this was anything more, and only focusing on his motives and not her own desires. nerina needed to understand how to let go, control not being something the captain dealt with easily. it takes all of nerina's so coveted control to keep her face calm, to keep up her mask that she doesn't really want to use. but she also doesn't want to let him see how easily he's gotten her, especially when he already knows. " the seas are far more predictable than one might think. " she says gently, voice so soft it almost sounds foreign to her. their proximity, the dancing, the words, it all makes her head swim. despite all they've shared, she still wants him to prove something to her. only nerina can't describe what she needs, which poses a problem. how can she demand something of him that she can't even articulate ? it seemed unfair, but the world they were facing was hardly catered to their desires these days. nerina closes her eyes for a moment, and she lets the music and the movements carry her. it's silly, she knows that she may look foolish, but the moment allows her to clear her mind, to push away the storm that has been churning and churning for stars know how long at this point. his words pull her eyes open once more, finding his in an instant. the gaze she's returned with warms her in ways she'd not realized she was chilly. her breath catches as he leans closer, and for a moment she was hoping he would kiss her. " i'm a sea captain, it's a required trait. " she says with a small laugh. nerina's fingers move to toy with the exposed skin on alistair's chest, the warmth of his body sizzling against her chilled hand. " i ran from every lesson, and none ever knew my hiding spots that would expose them. " nor was she important enough to be cared for. nerina didn't say that aloud, she left her dark past behind her when she strived to remain in the light. she also didn't admit to being impressed, he already knew she was. nerina gasps a bit as the little space between them is eliminated, and she feels a slight tingle follow his lips as they travel to her ear. " then stake your claim, alistair. " she challenges, perhaps finally figuring out what she needed him to do to prove this wasn't just a game. and she doesn't answer his last question, it doesn't matter where they end up.

𝐀𝐋𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇 𝐂𝐄𝐃 𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐄𝐃 the commander it was all just for fun and in hopes of gaining a decent alliance, his concern remained simply because it was not just any woman ced was dallying with. the list of things that could do amiss was endless. furthermore, mixing business and pleasure never had a positive result. this potential alliance was one the he decided to focus on, learning all that he could of the high lady, along with the rest of the dragomirs as well as the summer court. there could be no room for doubt when it concerned their day court. perhaps he was being too unfair in his suspicions of the high lady, but any commander would be in his place, he's certain." ah, certainly not, my experience has been relatively split evenly" not that he had an eversion to kind nor demure women, they had their charms as well and kindness was certainly a trait he valued. his dark hues twinkling a bit as he continued, "you would not categorize yourself as either, i take it?" he was still inclined to believe she had the same curiosity of her sister as he did of his best friend, to learn what they could of their high ruler's involvement with one another. although he wondered just how much nerina knew so far.
he resisted the urge to smirk when her gaze dropped to his exposed chest, he would not deny he was quite flattered. "i suppose,Ican't deny there are certain...perks. i assure you it was certainly not for attention. it's has been some time since i've last dressed for a party, and frankly it's finally warm enough to my taste." something nerina would agree to perhaps. the words weren't entirely a lie, he'd mostly wished to take advantage of the warm weather. back in the day court, he had dressed in similar styles, enjoying the warmth of the sun against his skin, that was seldom found here, and certainly not strong enough. "considering i've only exchanged hellos to those pass by, i would say this is my longest chat yet, nerina. so, i must thank you for providing your company." a charming smile curving his lips at her permission to speak her name, as alistair had little care for titles. he nods to her thoughts, though it seemed the commander was one of the few who did not have a deep dislike for the royals. the mother queen had been quite kind so far, even if secretive, but whatever her faults, she was not to blame for the situation they found themselves in. "i would agree, and a party couldn't to hurt divert minds for tonight." doubtful it would last long, but so far it had been going rather well. "is this your first trip to gaea?"
nerina wasn’t typically the most selfish of types, but she did make her choices based off how beneficial they could be. speaking to the man closest, in theory, to the man who had been spending time with her sister was only the smartest move to make. alina was secretive, and would tell her sister what was going on when and if she were ready. ner knew better than to pressure the high lady, and thus removed herself from the awkward situation of asking. for now, she’d attempt to discover what was going on between the high rulers on her own. she hoped the second of day knew enough to help her, otherwise, well, at least he was a pretty face to speak to.
the lady of summer knew the little gala would be a good excuse, being social was expected of party goers and hardly any would know she was more often a wallflower than butterfly. she wasn’t sure if alistair would figure out that she was simply seeking to use him for his knowledge, but even if he did, she wasn’t keen to hide her motives, surely he was curious as to what they were up to as well. “ not every lady you meet is demure and kind. ” she says with a small laugh. nerina was not bothered by her words at all. “ really ? i’m sure that will change given what you’ve chosen to wear tonight. ” she notes, nodding to the jacket, and lack of an undershirt. not that nerina judged or minded, her own dress was sheer with a high enough slit. “ longest conversation and we’ve only shared a few words ? i suppose we should remain on a first name basis then, you may call me nerina. ” she’d never quite cared for titles either, everyone who spoke to her often enough was well aware of that. typically she might be a bit more reserved with those who hailed from the solar courts, used to being looked down upon, but the second of day had yet to make her feel as such. “ i believe staying on the queen mother’s good side is the best plan for now, dressing the part and attending the events she throws seems appropriate. ” she offers with a gentle shrug.

"i don't believe i need luck, in due time you will share all of that with me." he returned with the signature arrogance he was known to possess. only that it wasn't a jest, more than it was a promise so to speak. the day commander hadn't been certain until a few weeks in to...well, whatever this was they didn't name but continued. when she'd yet to shun his advances or his presence near her. while he hadn't tried anything yet, each moment he was near her, the temptation made itself known, the will to behave was becoming difficult. nerina was a wild card, but he was no fool, he knew when another was interested in him, and he also come to learn in their time together how it was far easier for her to keep him at a distance. to play hard to get, and alistair would not deny the thrill of a good chase, though he no longer had to chase her, she was right within his grasp. in truth, he hadn't made himself quite clear to her prior, nor his intentions, except that he perhaps should have seen this coming, should have known from their first exchange nerina dragomir would have him panting after her. "i wouldn't expect anything less from the woman who commands the seas." a glint in his gaze, as it lingers on her unabashedly, a distinct warmth settled within his own chest when she melted into him, allowing him to lead. knowing very well, she would not be led by another, but he had hoped that she would lean into him and discover it was not a terrible thing, not when he'd be there to catch her. the music is easy enough to ensure her comfort, but the calm of his mind is far too stimulated when her hand finds the exposed bits of his chest. he swore for a moment he didn't move, only resisting the urge to shiver as her soft hand trailed across his skin. ever so slightly, he tugs her closer, to feel more of her delicate hand trailing across his skin. he watched her reaction carefully when his fingers find her hair, and yet again she makes no move to deny him, his head dips closer. "you also don't seem to lack in that department." his voice lower than it had ever been before, and he wondered if she could feel his heart thrumming intently under her hand. "i was raised in the court, my mother would not allow her children not be skilled dancers - even against our will." the words slipping as a joke, but they were true all the same, "seems i can finally thank her for imposing that upon me, otherwise i would not be here impressing you." there's a small that curved his lips at her continued teasing, and to prove his point he tugs her until there's no space left between them, his lips brushing against her cheek, and then trailing until it hovered by her ear, "you enjoy it just as well. one thing you should know of me, dear nerina, i never do anything without intention." he pulled back just enough to peer into her gaze, she was no fool she would read in between the lines. a hand grazed down her spine as they swayed to the beat. "so tell me, whose chamber would you like to go to once the evening is, mine or yours?"
nerina was evasive in most things, and she'd yet to decide if the way she acted with alistair was to protect herself or lead him on. perhaps it was both ? either way, the summer lady grins at him all the same. " i wish you luck, commander. " she says in a sweet voice. mischief sparkles in her dark eyes, a game before them she's not sure how to play just yet. but this was a day court fae, known well for their cockiness, their charm and their ability to flirt with anything. would she stand a chance ? " i aim to be unpredictable. " but just as the seas, one could learn all they needed to navigate them through practice. nerina doesn't miss the addition of 'dear' and she ignores the feeling in her chest at such a simple word. did he know what he was doing to her ? surely, the commander was not stupid and she believed him to enjoy attempting to make a mess of her. while not a skilled dancer, it's easy for nerina to allow alistair to lead. she doesn't often yield control, but he demands it from her in this moment and considering how he has yet to step on her toes, she's inclined to let him keep it. she's only thankful the dance is easy, and their closeness makes her breath come slowly to keep her mind calm. nerina's fingers slip from his shoulder to toy with the skin of his chest, the exposed skin something she'd tried her hardest to avoid looking at prior. the warmth of his body meets the chilled skin of her hand, and she finds that she hadn't even really put much thought into the gesture. it wasn't calculated to catch him off guard, but now she wished to see if it might. " so confident. " she says with a shake of her head. her breath threatens to catch at the simple gesture of his touching her hair, and nerina feels her chest squeeze at the same moment he pulls her even closer. at his admission of not being much of a dancer, but wishing to do with her, a chord strikes in her chest that she'd not even realized possible. nerina swallows, and finds herself unnerved at his ability to find pieces of her she wasn't aware of. " if you were truly not much of a dancer, you wouldn't look so at ease. " and he did, smooth perfection as if he belonged on the dance floor. " careful, commander, people will whisper at how possessively you're holding me. " but she found she didn't care, maybe she even liked it.

𝐇𝐄 𝐃𝐈𝐃 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐊 that the younger lady of summer approaching him was simply by chance, nor was it coincidence. likely, as alistair had noticed his best friend with the high lady of summer, her younger sister had noticed it as well. a ghost of a smile lingered on the commander's lips, wondering if she had approached him for a similar reason he had thought of approaching her. alistair was nothing, if not careful when it came such matters. the fact remained, if an alliance was to be forged between their courts, he did intend to learn all he could should the need ever arise and cedrian was to be aware of imperative matters. did he think the high lady was hiding something? possibly, but what high rulers, perhaps beside ced, were without their agendas? he did trust his best friend's judgement, his high lord was no fool, but the sharpest of men could be blinded by pretty faces. alistair was no stranger to capabilities of a female's charms, he's had his fair share of indulging. the mask did not hide nerina's features, but faces were his speciality, not easily forgotten by him, and certainly not striking one's as this lady's.
he intended to enjoy himself this evening, and this conversation was providing him exactly that. this time he allowed his gaze to remain on her features, as tempting as it was to continue his subtle appraising of a beautiful woman in a daring dress. some might say, the commander was far too cocky for his own good, but he was certain he didn't imagine nerina's gaze falling to his exposed chest but he stifled his smirk as her chocolate gaze found his features. seeing their attires nearly resemble in colors certainly caught his attention before he focused on her words. "ah, a sweet face capable of such...crude words." alistair could not help but tease a bit, "surprisingly, my interactions with women have been very little." that was by design, he'd danced with one or two, but certainly not long enough to hold a conversation. "you, my lady, are my first and longest conversation of the evening, and a much needed one as well. please, you may call me alistair, i don't care much for the title of lord." they knew little of the summer court, only what the late high lord had to say, and his opinions very strong of the season courts, and particularly of the late summer lord. which left alistair with enough intrigue to uncover more, "and thank you. after so long i've had a chance to. for all the experiences capital has provided, i might show a bit of gratitude for allowing me to dress up."
nerina often was a wallflower by choice, observing from afar and taking note of anyone who she thought was worth her time. because of this, she’d caught site of her sister and the lengthy chat with the day lord at the previous ball. seeking out his commander was twofold, she wanted to see if the man knew anything of what the pair were doing, as well as enjoy speaking to a pretty face. it might be difficult to pick up on another in a mask, but nerina also considered herself a master of memory. she didn’t need someone’s fully exposed face to find them, and the commander of the day court was quite distinguishable on his own. his choice in attire for the night didn’t surprise nerina in the slightest, the man did not seem to lack any amount of confidence.
it was almost amusing at how the pair almost matched, the shade of nerina’s dress only a few darker than the commander’s. both seemed to favor movement and skin. nerina had to remind herself what she even wished to speak about, almost at a loss for words as her gaze skimmed his exposed chest. she refused to look like a gawker, and thus moved her dark eyes back to his face quickly. a smile tilts her lips, often people are surprised when she chooses to speak. “ you’ve spoken to boring ladies then, my lord. ” she notes. “ it’s a pleasure to meet you as well, commander. ” ner knew his name, but she chose to go formal. such a stark contrast to her days on the ship, where her crew knew well not to even address her with a title. they’d been her long enough that nerina remembered what it was like to live at court, she hated it but knew just how to play the game. her smile widens, genuine. “ why thank you, you cleaned up quite well as well. ”

he expected a coy response, and one he took upon as a challenge. dark gaze gleaming as he eyed her long and hard. "then i will endeavor to lure it out of you." nerina had not a clue of the commander's skills in persuasion and seductions. the endless flirting and charm the commander was capable of, though all that she drew from him was tenfold that of surface level of charm. alistair could not place his finger on all that this summer lady did to him, that merely standing in her presence and watching her smile at him was enough to hold him captive. a siren was befitting for her, and he was still certain she had worn it for his favor, at least a greater part of her had. it was startling simply because he had not been in this situation, not entirely ensnared by a woman in this manner. his interest was fleeting at best in the past, or perhaps that alistair hadn't quite met his match until now. nerina may play hard to get, alistair knew he had her entirely hooked, just as she was aware of he was. granted he hadn't sought her with the right intentions, but he had known after their first encounter he was playing with fire. yet, he had done nothing to amend it, and nor did he want to. pulling away, even a bit had been a form of torture when all he wished to do was to reel her in closer, "i have come to learn, my dear summer lady, that you are full of surprises." perhaps he had been leaping ahead, but he wasn't imagining the look of interest in her gaze nor the one that told far more than her words did. it was not as if he'd not read her hesitancy prior, that between them, she had the most reason to be cautious of his intentions. "i think you will allow me regardless, but I will oblige your request." he murmurs, voice low still as he tugs her in, her previous words causing him to tug her far closer than would be appropriate right now. a hand reaching up to brush a strand of her hair back before he guided them to the movements of the beat. "it can and as do i. i am not much of a dancer, however, I do wish to with you." alistair led her in a far simpler dancer, this beat did not require anything other than enjoying the feel of his partner against him.
nerina is endlessly uncertain of what she's doing with the other. a playful lady, a tease and a flirt, someone who may not love large social gatherings but she could still happily find her amusement inside of some atmospheres. a laugh slips from her lips, and she glances upon the commander with a playful grin. " telling would make it far too easy for you, commander. " she replies, a coy answer for a man who demanded too much. nerina knew how to make things difficult, she knew how to play games and string others along. while nerina didn't wish to simply toy with the commander, she still couldn't help but play hard to get. he was too cocky, understood he had her hooked too soon. she refused to admit it. a whisper in her mind still doubted his intentions, people eager to know her sister and use her as a step to get there, but something about his high lord's continued presence with her sister made her a bit less hesitant. would it be a safe bet ? a shiver threatens to slip down her spine as he leans in, and nerina can't help but bite her lip. " you'd be in for some surprise then, alistair. " she whispers as he pulls away. it may be a dangerous line, but inflating his ego ever so slightly seemed to be the way to get what she wanted. playing hard to get in public was fun, easy even, but she still knew what she wanted. had he figured out how much she wanted him ? he acted like it, but nerina knew well that people could wear masks to suit their needs. the day court was well known to be cocky and confident, but it seemed that behavior had a way of catching summer ladies. laughter twinkles from her lips, and she offers a grin. " thankfully, there is a trick to it that the seamstresses told me about. play your cards right, and i might let you know. " teases she. nerina's body easily melts against his own, and she lets him lead the dance. " i simply don't see the point in learning such complex steps. music can be enjoyed with simplicity. " she shares, but is thankful she's not stepping on his toes.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑 𝐎𝐅 𝐓𝐇𝐄 day court enjoyed a good party every now and then, though it had significantly changed since he took on his position, every now and then, like tonight he could partake in it. his decades of training did not allow him to be careless, even as he mingled, sharp dark hues were still aware of his surroundings. as well as one can muster with this mask on his face, and while he enjoyed dressing up as much as some, he could do without this particular detail, but that was mostly his thought that his face was far too charming to be covered. the breeze that swept the royals gardens felt nice against his skin, the exposed bits of his chest from his blue coat. he was exceptionally pleased that this was being held outside, because the threat of being trapped in a single room was not yet averted.
he hears the feminine voice before he turns to look at his companion, his gaze subtly falling to the pretty, but equally risque gown she wore, that fit the woman too well before it moved to the face. there was no mistaking these delicate features, even behind her mask, alistair, after only a glimpse of the dragomir siblings, would not forget any one of them. they all bore such a striking resemble to one another, and the first thought that runs through his mind was the equally striking genes that ran through the summer siblings blood. he's inclined to believe they stuck out wherever they went. up close, lady nerina was as striking, "of all the response I can pull from a lady, that is certainly not one of them, not unless I intend it." his lips curl upwards at the corners, "lady nerina, a pleasure to finally speak to you." he had not been able to pull from cedrian just yet and whatever...friendship he might have with high lady alina, but if he would not speak, then alistair certainly intended to learn what he can through her younger sister. if their courts were to be tied, it could not hurt to get a feel of the dragomirs, outside of what he's heard so far. "you look lovely."
nerina seemed like the type to never dress up, often found in trousers and tunics atop her ship as she sailed around prythian, or a simple cut of cloth when on the streets of velaris. while she still found in incredibly irritating to be trapped on land, she wouldn’t deny the love of a reason to dress to a theme. the distraction of a party was welcome, even if she were far too observant not to know that this was nothing more than just that. an attempt to keep their minds focused on festivities rather than cages, on the bright and shining gilded exterior they found themselves in. but nerina donned a beautiful dress, the color a perfect match to her skin and hair, cut to favor ever asset she often allowed to stay hidden. the high slit was her favorite spot, allowing a flash of her darling heels and risque choices. the lady of summer crafted her appearance perfectly, meant to impress and distract plenty of her own while she sought answers to questions she’d offer in veiled words. spotting her first target, nerina drifted through the gardens over to the commander of day, partner in crime to the man her sister seemed quite taken with. a small laugh slips from her lips, smile gentle. does he recognize her yet ? nerina spent far too much time observing people, it was difficult to hide behind a mask from a woman who could pinpoint another in a crowd of people. “ i suppose you could, though if they throw you out i reserve the right to laugh. ”

"what are these things you view me as, my lady?" the commander didn't hide his curiosity nor the brief surprise that crossed his features. while he couldn't fully describe this foreign sensation that nestled inside of him, through those few, there was a ringing sense of unparalleled delight that he note. in truth, he shouldn't be so surprised she had read him in the time they spent together, and he knew precisely why in the beginning. she could never be too careful around ill-intention individuals. what did come as a surprise that she continued entertain him even whilst knowing why he'd approaching her initially. at her bold confession, he has to focus on her and not the way his heart thrummed. when he spoke next, he took a few steps closer, lower his voice as his lips dipped to her ear, "don't be surprised if i appear in your chambers unannounced, nerina." he lingers for a moment before stepping back just enough to peer at her pretty face. as a commander he had developed some form of caution, but this summer lady from the beginning had quickly proven to be a different sort of temptation that alistair had not ever encountered before. there was a chance she was merely teasing him, but the looks she bestowed his way was anything but. it was not at all helping him behave, but perhaps he had been overtly cautious when it came to the beautiful summer lady. "you don't need to ask me twice to find out. i have been itching to answer that question the moment i laid my eyes on you tonight." his gleaming gaze met hers in interest, and his desire for her reflected in his dark orbs. he proceeded with no caution as a hand slipped around her waist and tugged her closer until she was all but pressed against him. they would dance, but not as long as she believed. "and i am not a fussy dance partner. you dance well enough, my lady." it was less about dancing more than it was an excuse to hold her closer and see how she responded to him.
nerina shrugs, " i think you could be viewed as several things other than what you present to most. " she was a wallflower at her finest of moments, observant and keen in ways not all might pick up on. it was a habit grown from her upbringing, of being crowded with many siblings and a father who seemed more interested in the woman than the children they created, " perhaps i wish for you to be more bold, " ner shares, a wink accompanying her remark. in truth, she wanted to see just how far he would go, the line of thinking he was only attempting to know her for her sister blurring by the day. nerina was a flirt, but alistair brought out something else in her entirely. the dance they'd begun still seemed to be a bit murky, intentions spoken or unshared and no inbetween. would he bore of her when she finally graced his bed ? ner wasn't sure she wished for that to happen. laugher twinkles from her lips once more, full of mirth tonight it seemed. " i shall remember to convey your thanks, though it might change when you discover how delicate it must be removed. " she hums, words spoken as if they did not insinuate a single thing. nerina tilts her head, a grin atop her lips full of mischief and promise. " perhaps it does. " she had just asked him to be bolder, in fact. nerina's gaze flits to the dance floor, and then she slips her hand into alistairs. " i am not a good dancer, commander. " she wasn't that bad, truly, balance forced due to her time on the seas, but she never did take enough time to learn the steps.

"that may be, but you've yet to shun my company so i will perhaps arrogantly presume i do not think i'm overreaching." his charming smile remains in place, despite the unease he feels since they all landed on this place. unnerving didn't even begin to cover what it felt like being here, the constant roaring of the dragons, the harsh dusky skies, while a marvel sight, but not one he fully cared for as he longed for the sun of the day court. seeing her certainly had improved his mood, a bit surprised but he was learning that everyone at the capital, or the very least in the palace with them had also been brought along here. even as the summer lady attempted to place a foot forward, he sensed she was worrying of her siblings. "for a woman who loves an adventure, it's quite the sight seeing you in such a foul mood." he was teasing, nerina might love an adventure, but one she willingly sought not one she was dropping into, surrounding by the unknown. he doubted her idea of an adventure included being moved around by this dark entity, that still not one of them could uncover what it wanted from them. alistair stood by his thought, it didn't wish to harm any of them, even if draining their powers could be seen as threatening. the lord was an wild soul himself, curbed a bit when he slipped into his role of commander, but as the day court continued to prosper with his high lord and best friend fully involved in his court, and before all this occurred, he would have taken a few weeks to himself to do what he pleased. her remark has his dark gaze glinting when they moved to her, arms crossed over his chest but his frame is relaxed, he's more at ease, "please do tell me how, i will aim to remedy that swiftly." he remarks without missing a beat, a proper grin appear on his lips, "i would not object to that, my lady. we did miss our chance at the capital, however, your welcome to my bed if if you makes you feel more at ease here." the offer entirely sincere, and alistair was not a shy. "i'm not soldier but you will be safe with me." he tosses a second later, gaze gleaming, he wasn't entirely sure if she was merely teasing, but he'd allow her to make of what she wished of his offer. a soft chuckle slips as he begins plucking out the hayes he finds in her raven hair, "even at your worst, i doubt you could look any less appealing to me, that is a promise." if it was entirely his belief nerina could wear a potato sack or the most unflattering of garments known to fae, and she would still look beautiful.
nerina might feel bad later, her sour mood was never one she enjoyed having, and even worse to someone she shouldn’t be showing it to. the summer lady wished to shake herself out of it, but for now she simply would have to bite her tongue to not state things so dark. a heavy sigh slips from her lips, and she offers a slight smile to him. “ you think quite highly of yourself and your significance to me, my lord. ” she manages to tease, but he’s done what she expects he was trying to do. her mood lightens by a fraction. the lady also imagines that she will feel better once she finds each of her siblings, worried for both older and younger dragomirs despite their own abilities. she’ll also likely be whisked away by the mystery of the adventure at her feet, and the libraries likely locked away with things she’d never even glanced at before. in all her years of travel, it was difficult to surprise nerina or present her with the unknown, but here on this island she’d all but been given a poorly wrapped gift. the opportunities at her fingertips would distract her soon and pull a good mood from the lady in no time. besides, perhaps she could swindle the pretty commander of day in joining her on some of her adventures. it would certainly help in learning more of the man who was so close to the high lord spending far more time with her sister to be reasonable. an roll of her eyes, but her mood at least isn’t as sour to be jealous. “ oh you have offended me greatly, perhaps i should have gone to bed with you in hopes for a better place to wake. ” the logic made no sense at all, but she figured it was worth a shot to flirt with the other and see if that lightened her mood even further. how he reacted would be rather interesting, and ner expected a measure of surprise since most were not used to people be so forward. she wasn’t sure if the statement was more joke or truth, leaving that for him to figure out. her eyes narrow, but this time a bit playfully, and eyes track him as he moves closer and laughs at her. “ i hope you feel the same should you ever see me worse. ” she says lightly.

it was not as if cedrian forbade his best friend from spending time with anyone on a personal level, and he was also certain he couldn't object to alistair's interest in herina. granted, that was not what he'd intended, to taking such a deeper liking to her this way, he wished to be friends with her, due to the alliance between their courts but even the commander hadn't expected this attraction that took him by surprise. he'd still intended to learn all he could of this family and this court, purely out of knowing who they were becoming involved with, but all that he'd seen and observed led him to believe maybe it was not such a terrible idea. nerina and her siblings were good fae, they did not strike him as ambitious, duplicitous, or even cruel, but that would still remain to be seen. all of which he couldn't associate particularly with this lady, devious certainly, but not cruel. "that aligns with what i've known of you thus far, competitive, seeking a thrill from danger, though i'm curious to know are you this cutthroat out in the seas?" a brow rising as he takes a step closer towards her. her pretty face might fool others, but alistair had known not to mistake it for an unassuming one. it had certainly left him intrigued. "so then, have you devised a plan on how to get closer to the reptiles without their protests?" a hearty laugh falls from the commander, "i'm insulted you would believe i would hinder you in anyway. there's something you don't know of me, my lady, i'm exactly the sort of thrill seeker you'd want by your side." it had felt too long since he'd been able to lean onto that side of himself that had vanished in the chaos. "i'll aid you in your rather ambitious goal." he nods, "if you say so, but i have a feeling you don't intend to let them get a whiff of your stunts." the grin still lingering as he watched her, dark hues glinting in delight as she expressed her disappointment. "i would not advise that, i can assure you, i can be trusted, i don't think i can vouch for another in that regard. if you don't wish for a gentlemen, nerina, i can certainly be the entire opposite." holding her gaze with a promise, had he not been holding back all this time simply for the sake of propriety and of who she was.
the uncertainty that nerina had for the day commander waned by the day. she knew he likely only began to speak to her because his own high lord seemed keen on her sister, but his remaining and lingering interest felt personal. nerina didn’t often think too highly of herself, not poorly but simply not highly. she didn’t think people would seek her company alone without reason, but perhaps that was not as true anymore. nerina was interested enough to continue on and see what happened. a laugh twinkles from her lungs, “ my cousin and i are very competitive. danger is only more appealing. ” she shares. he hasn’t had the pleasure of meeting her counterpart in crime or bad decisions, but assumes it’ll happen in due time. “ you wish to meet a dragon as well ? only if you promise not to slow me down. i won’t lose to her. ” nerina took bets with her cousin very seriously, and she was also quite the sore loser. the latter part she was not sharing with the day fae. nerina’s mind was still too preoccupied on the idea of dragons being real, distracted by the stories of old coming to life in front of her eyes. she knew alina worried, but there was no chance she would pass up a moment to meet such magnificent creatures. a snort slips from the younger fae, “ my siblings won’t stop me. ” they couldn’t. she wasn’t an obedient one, and most were in no place to make such demands of her either. laughter bubbles from her once more, and nerina rolls her eyes. “ only to sleep ? how incredibly boring. i think i’ll take up an offer to share a bed that comes with more enticing activities than sleep. ”
