corrin lake is the current blue serpent spirit, and formerly the original serpentโ€™s host. despite being an old friend of wukongโ€™s, he spends most of his time with mk and mei, acting as the voice of reason in their trio (though, only if he feels like it).
in his post merge design his face marking is shaped like a heart, matching wukongโ€™s.

Tang quite enjoyed Pigsyโ€™s Noodles, even if said pig demon did not like it when he did not pay. He would though. Eventually.
He was enjoying a bowl when he was interrupted by Xiaotian โ€”and Corrin, who he seemed to be dragging alongโ€”, causing him to spill it all over himself. Oh well.
Xiaotian was practically bouncing with energy, as he usually was, but seemed extremely shaken up. He had also finally let go of Corrinโ€™s arm, with the latter seeming to be just as shaken up. โ€œMr. Tang!โ€
Tang wiped his mouth from the noodles he spilled, more confused than angered or annoyed. โ€œHmm?โ€
Xiaotian started frantically searching all over the counter, pushing around everything in his way. โ€œRemember the story you told me this morning? About the Demon Bull King? Argh, where is it? Where is it? Where is it?โ€ He continued to push things around until he spotted his book underneath a pile of bowls, and swiped away the pile, causing it all to fall. โ€œAh, there it is. The Demon Bull King, see?โ€
Pigsy managed to come into the building finally, being held back by Xiaojiao, and watching as all the bowls shattered on the ground. โ€œArgh, kid! What are you doing to my kitchen?โ€
Tang, however, seemed disinterested in Xiaotianโ€™s odd actions. โ€œYeah?โ€ He continued to sip his noodles (or, what was left after he spilled). โ€œWhat about him?โ€
Xiaotian practically leapt onto Tang, screaming frantically. โ€œThe Demon Bull King is back! The legend is real! The Monkey Kingโ€™s staff is removed! We have to find him! Itโ€™s the only way to save everyone before the world is destr-โ€
Tang pushed Xiaotian back with his chopsticks, rolling his eyes. โ€œBoy, relax. Youโ€™re getting spit in my soup. Besides, youโ€™re delusional. Itโ€™s just a story.โ€
Corrin finally stepped in. โ€œHeโ€™s not lying! I swear itโ€™s all real! I was there!โ€
Xiaotian nodded in agreement. โ€œYeah! Would you call this delusional?โ€ Everyone watched as he revealed the staff, Corrin pointing at it and nodding.
Xiaojiao smiled widely. โ€œWow, MK. You found a stick!โ€
Corrin let out an irritated groan at the lack of belief, clearly stressed. โ€œNo, itโ€™s Monkey Kingโ€™s staff!โ€
Corrin and Xiaotian watched the other three all burst into laughter, obviously not believing the two of them.
Pigsy seemed to be the only one continuing to focus on them afterwards, Xiaojiao messing with her phone and Tang returning his focus to his noodles, which only infuriated Corrin and Xiaotian more.
Xiaotian was practically ready to throw a tantrum at this point, ignoring as Corrin let out a loud irritated yell at their response in favor of continuing to argue. โ€œYou arenโ€™t listening! Demon Bull King is out there. We have to get the staff back to the Monkey King! Itโ€™s the real deal. Iโ€™ll prove it.โ€
Pigsy obviously did not believe him. โ€œOh, yeah? How?โ€
Xiaotian paused for a moment, holding out the staff, staring at it but having no idea how to use it. โ€œUhโ€ฆโ€
Corrin came over, staring at it as well. โ€œMaybe you have to-โ€
Suddenly, the staff extended itself, crushing the table that Tang and Xiaojiao were sitting at and forcing everyone to stare in shock. It slowly retracted itself back into its original size, and Corrin found how slow it was physically painful to watch.
Tang, ever the Monkey King obsessed historian, seemed to absolutely lose his mind in excitement. โ€œMonkey Kingโ€™s staff! I knew it all along! The legendary weapon that only he could wield to seal away evil! Wait a minute. Why do you have it?โ€
Pigsy seemed to finally be willing to play along. โ€œAll right, Iโ€™ll bite. If the staff is here, then where is the demon punk now?โ€
Xiaojiao held up her phone, smiling brightly. โ€œHeโ€™s at the shoe store.โ€
Everyone looked to her, confused. โ€œWhat?!โ€ They all moved to look over her shoulder, staring at the screen.
Pigsy glared her down, frowning. โ€œThis is better not be another one of your puppy videos, Mei!โ€
Corrin spoke up again. โ€œTo be fair, thereโ€™s always time for puppy videos.โ€
Xiaojiao laughed, nodding in agreement while scrolling through her phone. โ€œCorrinโ€™s right, but no. Look what just started trending. Hashtag Demon Bull King!โ€
The entire team looked through dozens of photos and videos on various social media. The most common collection of images was the Demon Bull King harassing some worker (Corrin recognized him, but hated him, so he internally rolled his eyes).
Pigsy forced the others into his old food truck, not even giving anyone a chance to get comfortable before he rushed into the driverโ€™s seat and floored it.
Everyone seemed uncomfortable with the arrangement, Tang, Xiaojiao, Xiaotian, and Corrin all being forced to squish into the vehicle together, and all complaining.
Pigsy ignored them, driving as fast as the old truck would go and rounding corners so fast the others thought they might tip over.
Tang, always willing to argue with his friend (frenemy? Their relationship was complicated), pushed himself next to him. โ€œPigsy, watch where youโ€™re going! Youโ€™re gonna kill us!โ€
MK pushed his way between the two, holding up his sketchbook. โ€œYeah we gotta get to Flower Fruit Mountain without getting smushed in a car crash. All we need to do is drive through an entire ocean. Simple.โ€
Corrin rolled his eyes and forced MK to sit back. โ€œNot simple! Most cars canโ€™t drive through water, and this rust bucket will probably get us killed before we even get a mile in.โ€
Mei then moved to push herself into the conversation, holding up her phone and pointing to the screen frantically. โ€œGuys! Demon Bull King has moved onto downtown. Heโ€™s destroying the cheese tea store!โ€
MK frowned. โ€œAll the more reason to get this staff back to Monkey King. Flower Fruit Mountain. Itโ€™s the only place he could be. Right, guys?โ€
Corrin nodded and Tang verbally agreed. โ€œIndeed.โ€
Corrin interrupted him. โ€œHowever, Flower Fruit Mountain is hidden away, deep in dangerous and unknown territory.โ€
This seemed to cause Tang to panic. โ€œSo I guess we better turn back!โ€
MK, Mei, and Corrin all stared at him in an irritated shock. โ€œWhat?!โ€
Irritated with his words, Pigsy pushed Tang back into his seat. โ€œShut it, you big baby. I know a guy that can take us there. The most dangerous, deadly, rage-filled warrior Iโ€™ve ever known.โ€ Then, he slammed on the gas once again, leading the others to all scream.
Pigsy continued to drive as fast as he could until he suddenly stopped the food truck at the harbor. โ€œSandy.โ€
The others stared at the boat, Xiaotian and Xiaojiao shaking in fear at the ominous appearance, watching as one of the doors slowly opened with the wind.
โ€œOh, this place is so hauntedโ€ฆโ€ Corrinโ€™s comment caused the two other young adults to let out a whimper.
Pigsy guided them all inside, Xiaojiao, Xiaotian, and Tang quivering in fear, Corrin looking around nervously, as they immediately encountered one of the tallest men any of them had ever seen. He was standing in the kitchen, wielding a large butcher knife as Pigsy asked for his help.
They all watched in terror as he threw a butcher knife onto the kitchen counter. โ€œThatโ€™s a lot to take in. You know what I do to people who disrupt the peace?โ€ The group shivered in fear even more. โ€œServe them tea!โ€ He pulled up a tea set, smiling brightly. โ€œYou guys want some? You? How about that guy over there? Huh? Huh?โ€
Corrin shrugged from his seat on the floor (where he had insisted he was most comfortable), petting a cat who had crawled into his lap at some point. โ€œIโ€™ll take some.โ€
Tang nodded, raising his hand. โ€œOh, yes! Donโ€™t mind if I do.โ€ He turned to give a pointed look towards Pigsy. โ€œCertain noodle shop owners could learn a lot from your hospitality, Sandy.โ€
โ€œOh, youโ€™re right, Piggy, this guy is dangerous. Heโ€™ll kill us with cuteness!โ€ Xiaojiao then picked up one of Sandyโ€™s therapy cats, placing it on top of Pigsyโ€™s head.
Sandy smiled as he handed one of the cups of tea to Corrin. โ€œItโ€™s my own blend of anti-stress fruits. It really brings the heart rate down.โ€
Corrin smiled widely. โ€œOoh, I could definitely use this.โ€
Pigsy seemed to grow more and more irritated as the two continued their conversation about tea, and eventually reached a breaking point, slamming his hands onto the coffee table in front of them. โ€œSandy! What happened to you?โ€ He grabbed onto Sandyโ€™s necklace, yanking it in an attempt to get eye to eye with him. โ€œWhereโ€™s the angry glass chewing, fish throwing buddy I used to know?โ€
Sandy grabbed Pigsy and gently placed him down, patting him on the shoulder, an embarrassed smile on his face. โ€œOh well, my therapist said I really needed to calm down. Thatโ€™s why I started drinking tea. Doing yoga. Investing in therapy cats. Really helps.โ€ He picked up a cat which looked an unnatural amount like him. โ€œOh, donโ€™t you, Mo?โ€
Xiaojiao raised her hand, snapping him out of his focus on his cat. โ€œOh Mr. Sandy sir.โ€ She moved to get on her knees, offering the best puppy dog eyes she could. โ€œWe could really use your help. Weโ€™ve gotta get to Flower Fruit Mountain!โ€
Xiaotian joined her on his knees, giving the same look. โ€œPlease, the fate of the world is at stake.โ€
Sandy seemed unphased by their begging, but still smiled. โ€œOk!โ€
Xiaotian, Xiaojiao, and Corrin now looked at him in confusion, clearly surprised he agreed so quickly. โ€œReally?โ€
Sandy nodded. โ€œAnything for Pigsy. I can get you there, but it ainโ€™t a pleasant trip.โ€
Xiaotian, Xiaojiao, and Corrin all smiled widely, jumping around excitedly. โ€œYes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!โ€
โ€œAlright, letโ€™s get moving.โ€ He then turned to Pigsy. โ€œBut Iโ€™m telling you, old friend. If things get hairy, Iโ€™ve changed. I donโ€™t go around picking fights no more.โ€ Pigsy let out a sigh as Sandy then turned back to his weird twin like cat. โ€œMo, initiate the launch sequence!โ€
The group watched in confusion as Mo jumped off Sandyโ€™s shoulder, running into another room as Xiaojiao turned to Xiaotian and Corrin. โ€œLaunch sequence?โ€ The two shrugged.
There was the sound of a button being pressed, and the boat started up, red warning lights flaring.
Sandy moved to go outside, the others following him as he made his way to the steering wheel. โ€œOnwards to Flower Fruit Mountain!โ€ The boat then took off rather fast, especially for its size, and the others all cheered.
Everyone had settled in pretty quickly afterwards, walking around the boat to do whatever it was they wanted while Sandy continued on their way.
Xiaotian had hesitated at first, not sure how to bring it up, but he eventually walked over to Corrin, sitting next to him. โ€œSo, uh, earlier, you said you would explain everything if we didnโ€™t die, and we didnโ€™t, so, uhโ€ฆโ€
โ€œI did, huh?โ€ Corrin took a deep breath and nodded. โ€œItโ€™s a long story. God, where to start. Well, I know the Monkey King.โ€
Xiaotian leaned in, excitement clear on his face. โ€œYou know him?! Wait, obviously you do, youโ€™re the Blue Serpent Spirit so you were on the journey to the west- wait how old would that make you-โ€
Corrin let out a laugh, covering Xiaotianโ€™s mouth to stop him. โ€œGive me a second to answer, will ya?โ€
Xiaotian nodded, now sitting silently.
โ€œYeah, weโ€™re old friends.โ€ Corrin smiled, reminiscing. โ€œHe was fun. Kinda a jerk when I first met him โ€” god I canโ€™t tell you how many times he kicked me in my sleep โ€” but he wasโ€ฆ he was a good friend.โ€
Xiaotian nodded, clearly still hoping for more information.
โ€œAlso, the story about the Blue Serpent being there the whole time and only revealing itself as a spirit towards the end of the journey? Bullshit.โ€ This drew a shocked reaction out of the younger man. โ€œI was there the whole time, yes, but I wasnโ€™t the Blue Serpent yet.โ€
Xiaotian watched Corrin sigh deeply, turning to look over the railing of the boat. He watched with wide eyed wonder as the blond lifted a large bit of water, a small fish inside.
โ€œLong story short, I got saved by a dying spirit. Or, well, not dying spirit, the host was dying. They wanted someone else to carry it so they could die in peace, and, well, they saved my life, how could I say no?โ€ He lowered the fish back into the water, and it swam away.
โ€œWhat happened to the host?โ€
Corrin took another deep breath, stilling himself. โ€œThe Blue Serpent isnโ€™t some kind of blessing. Theyโ€™re a curse. The longer youโ€™re with them the weaker you become until-โ€
โ€œUntil you dieโ€ฆโ€ Xiaotianโ€™s eyes widened. โ€œAre youโ€ฆ?โ€
Corrin playfully splashed some water on his friendโ€™s face, but he was clearly still thinking about the implications. โ€œYouโ€™re not that lucky, Iโ€™ve still got a lot more in me.โ€
Xiaotian thought for a moment, then changed the subject. Their moods had both soured and he did not want to think of it much longer. โ€œWell, uh, since I have the staff and all, you think I could ever be as cool as the Monkey King?โ€
Corrin turned back to him with a smile. โ€œGive it time, Wukong wasnโ€™t that great with it when I knew him. Like I said, he was a jerk โ€” impulsive and kinda clumsy with a bad temper โ€” not a good fit, at least, thatโ€™s what I thought.โ€
Xiaotian was intrigued by the causal use of the Monkey Kingโ€™s given name, but ignored it and laughed instead. โ€œI canโ€™t imagine him not being totally awesome.โ€
โ€œHe once broke his leg when the two of us were separated from the others and I had to carry him back.โ€ Both Corrin and Xiaotian laughed loudly at that. โ€œHe was so mad that the others saw that he didnโ€™t talk to me for like a month!โ€
The two both took deep breaths, then Xiaotian smiled, staring at the staff in his hands. โ€œSo you really think I could do it, huh?โ€
Corrin nodded. โ€œI know it. Besides, youโ€™ve already got a head start on Wukong, because youโ€™ve got the heroic personality, youโ€™ve got the drive, and just like him, youโ€™ve got friends who care about you.โ€
Xiaotian looked over the boat, smiling widely. Pigsy was passed out on a couch, and Tang seemed like he was about to be close behind. Xiaojiao was tapping away on her phone, completely invested in whatever it was and Sandy was focused on steering the ship. Corrin stood next to him with a comforting smile. Yeah, he did.
He took a deep breath, then walked out to the open area, giving a playful wink towards Corrin before starting his dramatic show. โ€œHalt evil monster! I must thwart thee! For I am the Monkie Ki-โ€ Xiaotian let out a yell as the staff extended, breaking a part of the boat and almost hitting Xiaojiao, which caused him to drop it in a panic.
Xiaojiao, as she most often was, was unphased, smiling brightly. โ€œWooo! That was awesome!โ€
Xiaotian let out an embarrassed groan. โ€œSorry, Mei.โ€ He struggled to pick it up, only for it to fly back, nailing him in the face and causing him to fall. Faintly, he could hear Corrin let out a snort, the kind he would do when he was trying very hard not to laugh.
Xiaotian continued to lay there, obviously annoyed with what had happened to him. He looked around the deck, but paused when he looked up past the rim of the boat and into the distance. Something was glowing, and as he looked even harder, he saw it.
Flower Fruit Mountain.
Xiaotian had never moved so fast in his entire life, rushing to the edge and smiling, excitement clear in his voice. โ€œWeโ€™re here! Flower Fruit Mountain!โ€
Suddenly, the ship rocked, a geyser hitting it and causing the ship to almost tip over. A crate on it had gone flying and Corrin let out a panicked yell, drowned out by all the others yelling, and ducked to avoid getting hit.
Xiaotian turned, letting out a confused โ€œhuhโ€ when he noticed the large volcanoes that they seemed to be getting closer and closer to.
Sandyโ€™s voice seemed to come out of nowhere, and Corrin had almost forgotten he was there with how quiet he had been the whole ride. โ€œWelcome to the Flaming Mountains gang! A volcanic ring surrounds the mountain making it virtually impassable. This path is the only safe way through.โ€ He stopped the boat just at the edge of the water, letting the others who wished to continue off. โ€œThatโ€™s as close as the boat can get. Just be careful.โ€
Corrin, Xiaojiao, Xiaotian, and Pigsy got off, Tang seemingly hiding with no intention of joining them, to absolutely no oneโ€™s surprise.
The walk had started, for the most part, uneventful, with the group cautiously avoiding getting blasted by geysers.
โ€œStupid Sandy. Stupid Tang. Staying cozy in his stupid boat. What did I do to deserve this, Noodle Gods?โ€ Pigsy had been complaining since the group had gotten off the boat, but was interrupted this time by a geyser of fire erupting from the ground, nearly hitting him and causing him to let out a panicked scream.
โ€œCareful, piggy!โ€ Xiaojiao cringed slightly. โ€œYou gotta wonder why Monkey King decided to live here of all places.โ€
Corrin suddenly grabbed Xiaojiaoโ€™s arm, yanking it and gaining her attention before pointing to something before them, which caused both him and the others to start to gain his attention. โ€œMK, look up.โ€
The aforementioned young man had seemingly not heard him, staring down at the staff. โ€œYou know when Monkey King had to get through the Flaming Mountains he actually used Princess Iron Fan fanโ€™s to blow-โ€ He had been cut off by a laugh, one he recognized immediately.
Princess Iron Fan had seemingly appeared out of nowhere, a mocking smile on her face. โ€œWell, well, well. Arenโ€™t you a little Monkey King fanboy.โ€ Flames erupted from behind her, and she pushed her Magic Fan into the fire. She then brought it up, using the flames now ignited on it to throw a large fireball.
Corrin rushed forward, using the boiling water from an erupting geyser to counter the flame, leading to steam blocking everyoneโ€™s sight.
Pigsy rushed over to Xiaotian and Xiaojiao, who had run away in a panic and managed to trip over their own two feet. โ€œKids! Everyone okay?โ€ Corrin rushed over, Pigsy pushing him and the others behind him to protect them.
Princess Iron Fan moved towards them, laughing at the sight. โ€œIโ€™ll be taking that staff now.โ€
Xiaotian and Xiaojiao rushed to get up, the former pushing his way to the front of the group. โ€œThis belongs to the Monkey King. Thereโ€™s no way Iโ€™m letting you take it.โ€
Princess Iron Fan gave another mocking smile. โ€œOh youโ€™re just a little noodle boy playing at being a hero. Sorry to disappoint, playtime is over.โ€
Xiaotian launched himself at Princess Iron Fan, with Pigsy and Corrin both reaching, and both failing, to grab him, Pigsy letting out a panicked yell. โ€œKid no!โ€
The Monkie Kid rushed to hit her with the staff, but was blocked with only one finger by the same gauntlet Red Son had used to lift it before.
Xiaotianโ€™s entire body tensed up in shock. โ€œWhat?โ€
Princess Iron Fan smiled, letting out a laugh as she grabbed the staff. Then, she swung it, launching him out of sight.
Corrin felt himself freeze. It was almost as if his heart had stopped beating.
Xiaojiao began to run in the direction he had gone. โ€œNo! MK!โ€
Pigsy panicked, rushing to grab her and pulling her back before she ran straight into a geyser. โ€œMei! We gotta go!โ€ He threw Xiaojiao over one shoulder and rushed over to Corrin, throwing the dazed blond over his other. This snapped the latter out of his daze, and both struggled desperately to get free. Then, he made a rush back to Sandyโ€™s boat. โ€œSorry kid.โ€
Corrin watched as Princess Iron Fan let out a loud laugh, but his shock addled mind could not make out what she was saying afterwards before she disappeared in a burst of wind.
He was gone. Xiaotian was gone and the Demon Bull family had the staff. Xiaotian was gone and he could not save him andโ€ฆ no. No he could not be. He had to still be alive.
The arrival back on the boat was a blur, and Corrin continued to stare out in the direction of the Flaming Mountains, praying to any god that was listening that Xiaotian would come rushing out to them.
He did not.
He finally turned back to the others, the tone so different from the trip there. There was no smiling or laughter. Everyone seemed to be either in shock or in grief, perhaps even a bit of both.
Pigsy was leaning on the railing of the boat, looking out into the water with his face buried in his arms. โ€œHe canโ€™t be gone. He canโ€™t.โ€
Corrin could hear his voice crack, something that seemed so off for him. He walked over to his side, leaning on one of his shoulders and staring out at the water with him as Sandy walked over, placing a hand on his other shoulder.
โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Pigsy.โ€
โ€œThere was nothing we could do.โ€ The voice was faint, and it cracked ever so slightly as well. Tang.
Pigsy tensed up, turning to glare at Tang. โ€œNothing?โ€
Corrin grabbed his arm, making an attempt to calm him. โ€œPlease donโ€™t.โ€ It went ignored.
โ€œNothing?!โ€ Pigsy yanked himself out of Corrinโ€™s grip, stomping over. โ€œI couldโ€™ve done something! I couldโ€™ve-โ€ His voice started to crack even more as he yanked Tang down by his shirt collar. โ€œI shouldโ€™ve protected MK!โ€ Tears began to well up in his eyes. โ€œItโ€™s over.โ€
โ€œItโ€™s not over.โ€ Tangโ€™s words caught Pigsyโ€™s attention. โ€œWe canโ€™t help MK, but we can make sure no more lives are lost. Make sure his sacrifice wasnโ€™t in vain.โ€
Then, a voice from the other side of the boat. โ€œSomeone has to fight.โ€
Corrin turned, speaking up for the first time since it had happened. โ€œMei?โ€
The group watched as Xiaojiao wiped her tears away, turning to them with the most rage-filled look they had ever seen, tears still in her eyes. โ€œThat demon bully is going to-โ€ Suddenly, a smile appeared on her face her energy gar more dark than it had been with her simple smile, โ€œpay.โ€
Corrin thought more about Xiaotian. He was the first friend he made this time. They had only known each other for six months, but Xiaotian had been his best friend the whole time. They worked together, hell they lived in the same tiny apartment above Pigsyโ€™s, staying up late and playing games, watching movies and shows, telling jokes to pass the time.
And now he was gone.
Corrin walked over to Xiaojiao, narrowly dodging Sandy grabbing him as he grabbed the other three, hugging them close. โ€œThen what are we waitinโ€™ for? Letโ€™s stop some bad guys!โ€
Corrin continued to stare, thousands of thoughts rushing through his head. Then, he turned towards the Flaming Mountains again. His body was running on instinct.
โ€œCorrin?โ€ Pigsyโ€™s voice was cautious, like he knew he was about to do something impulsive.
He did. He jumped.
He could faintly hear the yells of his friends as he went under the water, but he paid them no mind, rushing as fast as he could. The water was practically boiling, the heat felt like it was burning him, and it very well might have been, but he ignored it, rushing back onto the Flaming Mountains.
He ran fast, heat quickly drying the water that was left behind on his body. He looked back only once, briefly catching the sight of the others frantically attempting to get his attention.
A geyser erupted, and he continued running. His body felt like it was shutting down. The adrenaline was starting to subside.
It was starting to hurt. So bad. He could not remember a time where everything hurt this much.
He was beginning to lose control.
He blacked out.

14. what hobbies does your self insert have?
heโ€™s a fan of reading and baking in his free time. heโ€™s also very big on taking naps in sunny spots (snake brain is strong).

me: *plans a chapter for my monkie kid fic where my si befriends my oc yuki, who is a kitsune from japan, but no one realizes heโ€™s actually not human except wukong, who keeps trying to get rid of him bc he thinks heโ€™s a threat, causing him and corrin to have a huge fallout bc corrin blames him for yukiโ€™s decision to leave (he doesnโ€™t actually leave, but no one knows that)*
me, realizing this is great angst material bc in jttw wukong constantly tried to warn the others about demons but no one ever believed him, which definitely led to some internalized issues with being trusted:

โ€œThe thing to understand about the old legends is that the story is never finished. There may be no pages left to turn, but there is always more to the journey.
โ€œRising from the Netherworld, the Demon Bull King attacked. No one could stop him, no one could resist. No one exceptโ€ฆ the legendary Monkey King.
โ€œThe Monkey King used his magical staff to pick up a nearby mountain. He trapped the Demon Bull King underneath it. The Monkey King sealed the mountain with the staff that no other being could wield, trapping the Demon Bull King forever. With the battle won, the Monkey King vanished, never to be seen again.
โ€œLegend says the staff still lies on top of that mountain, the one thing keeping our world from certain destruction. And with the Demon Bull King gone, civilization was able to advance into the amazing city we now live in. A world of elegant cultures, gentle loving people, a city brimming with five-star cuisine, and all because of the Monkey King.โ€

Corrin had heard that story what felt like a thousand times, but the worship of the Monkey King always made him roll his eyes and let out a small laugh, shaking his head as he bagged up one of the food orders for Pigsy.
Xiaotian had probably heard it even more times, but that did little to dull his excitement, throwing his sketchbook as Tang finished the story. โ€œOh, thatโ€™s so good! Monkey Kingโ€™s so cool! Heโ€™s so strong and handsome-โ€
Corrin rolled his eyes at the last statement. โ€œHavenโ€™t you heard all these stories likeโ€ฆ a thousand times?โ€
โ€œI have!โ€ Xiaotian grabs his sketchbook, showing off various art of the Monkey King. โ€œI got his whole life documented extensively in this unauthorized autobiography of Monkey King. Written and illustrated by yours truly. Like I knew he was born from a stone, and live behind a waterfall with his sweet little baby monkey friends! And- and- and oh!โ€
While Xiaotian continued rambling, Tang picked up one of the stray pages that fell out. โ€œItโ€™s nice to know someoneโ€™s taking in all these stories. Pearls of wisdom, dripping from my lips.โ€
โ€œPfft, yeah, sure.โ€ Corrin bagged up the last of the orders, rolling his eyes at the older man. โ€œNerds.โ€
Tang then cleared his throat, turning away from Corrin and towards Xiaotian. โ€œWell, you know the deal: one story, one free bowl of Zha jiang mian. Hmm?โ€
โ€œHuh? Oh right, free noodles! Yep, on it.โ€ Xiaotian moved over to grab them. โ€œHow heavy do you think a mountain is? Compare to like-โ€ He was cut off by a spoon being thrown at him from somewhere behind Corrin.
โ€œFree noodles?!โ€ Corrin watched as Pigsy took the noodles from Tang and let out a small laugh. โ€œNo one gets a free meal at Pigsyโ€™s! Iโ€™m not running a charity here, Tang!โ€
Tang seemed completely unfazed by the pig demonโ€™s yelling, gently pushing him back. โ€œAh, but Pigsy. I was paying with wisdom.โ€
This seemed to anger the pig demon even more. โ€œYeah? Well, wisdom donโ€™t pay the rent, you freeloader! And you!โ€ He turned to point to Xiaotian. โ€œYouโ€™ve been slacking off all morning! Iโ€™ve got a dozen orders that need to go out, so quit slacking and get packing!โ€
Xiaotian avoided eye contact awkwardly. โ€œYeah. I was about to take my break. So maybe Corrin canโ€ฆโ€
โ€œBreak? Break?!โ€ Corrin rolled his eyes at the start of the dramatic speech, practically knowing the words by heart. โ€œThereโ€™s no break in war! I need workers. Soldiers in the army of Pigsyโ€™s Noodles, home of the worldโ€™s longest noodles. How else am I gonna expand my business into enemy territory?โ€
This caused the blond to let out a loud laugh. โ€œW-War?โ€ Even if he knew the whole speech word for word it was still funny.
Xiaotian instead chose to hold in his laughter, staring at his boss in confusion. โ€œUh, do you mean across the street?โ€
Pigsy brushed off Xiaotianโ€™s statement, shoving the bags that Corrin had packed into his arms. โ€œI stand by my statement! Now, hurry up!โ€ He turned to Corrin, whispering. โ€œGo with him, if Mei finds him on his route heโ€™s gonna get distracted.โ€
โ€œAnyโ€ฆ other reason?โ€ Corrin had a sinking feeling-
โ€œIโ€™m also making you do this because you laughed.โ€
Yeah, he knew that was coming.
Corrin nodded following out the door, just barely still able to hear Pigsy and Tang yelling to each other as Xiaotian loaded up the delivery vehicle (it was named the tuk-tuk, a rather strange name in Corrinโ€™s mind), before turning to look at him.
โ€œOh, you coming along?โ€
Corrin nodded as Xiaotian sat. โ€œYeah, Pigsy made me. Punishment for laughing at his speech I guess.โ€ It was not the full truth but Corrin was sure that Xiaotian would be a bit upset that Pigsy did not have full trust in him, so he omitted that part.
โ€œOh cool!โ€ Xiaotianโ€™s smile was bright. โ€œDeliveries are always so boring!โ€
Corrin sat with him, laughing slightly. โ€œGod, tell me about it.โ€
Xiaotian put on his headphones, though they were loud enough for Corrin to hear. They delivered the noodles around the large city until they stopped at a construction site.
โ€œDidnโ€™t they cancel construction on this place like, years ago?โ€ Xiaotian could only vaguely hear Corrin and shrugged in response, both of them going to the elevator, which somehow still functioned, and heading down to the lowest level underground. โ€œI feel like weโ€™re about to get murdered here.โ€
Xiaotian either had not heard Corrin or simply ignored him, still listening to the music until Corrin pulled his headphones off. He was about to question why when he heard a voice from somewhere.
โ€œIt feels like Iโ€™ve waited an eternity for this moment.โ€ The voice was a womanโ€™s. She was tall, red clothes and jet black hair, long but part of it up in a style that was reminiscent of a bullโ€™s horns, and oh so familiar to Corrin. โ€œIs everything in order?โ€
Another voice, a maleโ€™s, just as familiar. โ€œJust making the final adjustments, Mother.โ€ He had red and purple clothes, and his red hair that was tied back into a ponytail seemed to defy gravity, mimicking the movement of fire.
Corrin tensed up even more when he registered just who he was looking at, freezing to the point where Xiaotian had to drag him behind a rock to hide from the duo, after he stumbled in a panic of course.
The womanโ€™s voice held a slight twinge of excitement, clearly attempting to push it down to seem more composed and regal. โ€œFinally, after all this time, we have the means to lift Monkey Kingโ€™s legendary staff.โ€
Xiaotian seemed to be completely unfocused on the woman, instead staring at the out of place tree โ€” and the staff beside it, stuck in the ground. โ€œWow. Monkey Kingโ€™s staff.โ€ He moved, making his way up to the pipes and looked over the group from there.
Corrin rolled his eyes, climbing up after his friend and whispered back. โ€œYeah, cool, whatever, letโ€™s not pay attention to that and instead focus on not getting caught.โ€ When the two of them reached their place, Corrin took note of an odd looking bird. โ€˜Nope. Just a weird bird. Ignore it.โ€™
โ€œMy love will finally be returned, once we remove the staff.โ€ The woman and man stopped, noticing one of their group crawling up to the tree โ€” and more specifically, the staff. โ€œHuh?โ€
The member of the group looked the same as the others, the only difference being that his right horn was upside down. He got on top of the small mountain where the tree and staff were located and attempted to pull the Golden Staff off of it, only for his arms to be ripped off, sending him falling backwards. โ€œAhh!โ€ He looked at his arms, only to realize that they were gone, causing him to be more upset that it did not work than he was upset over his own loss.
โ€œYou fool. You think we didnโ€™t try that already? Itโ€™s going to take more than a few robots to lift the Monkey Kingโ€™s staff. Only those deemed worthy can wield it.โ€ The red head rolled his eyes, summoning an odd looking glove with a burst of flames. โ€œBut I, Red Son, have designed this gauntlet to bend it to my will.โ€
Corrin groaned quietly at the name. โ€œOh you have got to be kidding meโ€ฆโ€
Suddenly, Xiaotian slipped, nearly taking Corrin down with him. The two barely managed to stay up on the pipes.
They watched as Red Son got on top of the mountain and grasped the staff with the glove. He struggled to pull it off until the staff finally broke free. โ€œYes! I did it!โ€
The bull clones applauded Red Son while the one with the off put horn looked down in dismay.
Corrin watched nervously, tensing up, but was confused when nothing happened, his confusion apparently being shared with Red Son.
โ€œWhat?! Why isnโ€™t anything happening?! Mother, are you sure this is the right mountain?โ€
The woman shook her head, sarcastically responding, โ€œNo, maybe it was that other mountain with a magical staff sealing away my husband!โ€
An earthquake โ€” or what felt like one โ€” seemed to catch their attention. They looked to where they had just taken the staff, watching as it seemed to begin to crack for a small moment before practically exploding before them in a flash of green light. Xiaotian and Corrin barely managed to hang on as the Demon Bull King himself pulled himself out of the destruction.
Red Son smiled widely, pure excitement in his voice. โ€œYes, Father! Rise! Rise!โ€
Corrin watched them all, rolling his eyes as Red Son let out an evil laugh. It was easier to pretend not to be scared for his life โ€” as well as the lives of everyone else.
Demon Bull King stepped once, already powerful to crack the very ground, with Corrin, Xiaotian, and the odd looking bird watching nervously. โ€œFlesh. Bone. I have returned to the realm of the living.โ€
Corrin and Xiaotian watched nervously, the latter barely keeping the two of them from falling. They both watched as the odd bird turned to look at them, hopping right between Xiaotianโ€™s hands. Corrin stared the bird down and knew immediately.
Xiaotian panicked when he too realized what the bird was about to do, attempting to wave it off with one arm. โ€œNo! Shoo! Go away!โ€
Corrin watched in horror as the bird began pecking at Xiaotianโ€™s hand, the only thing keeping the two from falling to the ground. Corrin made frantic attempts to wave off the bird, the animal seemingly glaring back at him with just as much ferocity. โ€œStop it, please.โ€ He begged, no longer paying attention to the people below.
The bird continued to poke Xiaotianโ€™s hand with its beak, causing Xiaotian to finally let go, causing both him and Corrin to fall to the ground with loud screams.
On top of Red Son.
Xiaotian and Corrin got up, both pausing awkwardly when they came face to face with the Demon Bull Family and the Bull Clones.
Corrin grasped the sleeve of Xiaotianโ€™s jacket tightly as the latter laughed nervously. โ€œSomeone ordered some noodles?โ€
Corrin moved to back up slightly, attempting to pull Xiaotian away, smiling awkwardly. โ€œHey, everyone. Good to see you?โ€
Both the Demon Bull King and Princess Iron Fan seemed shocked by Corrinโ€™s appearance, and the blond did not blame them.
Red Son finally seemed to finally come to, and Corrin could feel a tantrum coming on. โ€œGet off me, you idiot! Argh, did you know what you just did?!โ€ He threw them both off, bursting into flames in a rage. โ€œYou ruined my momeโ€ฆโ€
His words faded off as he looked at Corrin, and the blond internally panicked, knowing well that all three members of the family recognized him.
And he was almost one hundred percent certain that they all hated him.
โ€œSome little eavesdroppers have fallen into our midst. It seems a waste to crush something so insignificant as my first act as ruler of this new world.โ€ Demon Bull King turned to Corrin after that. โ€œBut destroying the Great Blue Serpent would be quite a way to reintroduce myself.โ€
Red Son seemed to look panicked, and he rushed in front of the two humans. โ€œNo, wait, Father.โ€
The large minotaur-like demon stared down at his son. โ€œWhat is this?โ€
Red Son paused for a moment, quickly speaking as fast as his mind was producing excuses. โ€œAhem. Waste not your energy on these peasants. Please, allow me to show you how powerful I have become in your absence!โ€
Corrin continued to hold tightly onto Xiaotianโ€™s arm, very much not trusting anyone in the room, even if some of them had been his friends at one point.
The redheadโ€™s father seemed unentertained, but allowed his son to act on nonetheless. โ€œAs you wish.โ€
Xiaotian pulled Corrin away, attempting to sneak out as the two spoke. โ€œMaybe we can use this chance to get away.โ€ Of course, the two were not so lucky.
โ€œIn some ways, youโ€™re both very fortunate, noodle boy!โ€ Red Son gave a nod to Corrin, like he was informing him that he was going to give him a chance. โ€œSerpent.โ€
Xiaotian and Corrin backed up slightly, and Corrin could feel the cool metal of the Monkey Kingโ€™s staff on his hand (not that it would do him any good, he could not lift it).
โ€œNot many pests are lucky enough to be stamped out by the Demon Bull Family.โ€
Xiaotian suddenly turned, staring down before him at the staff as if he had heard something, which caught Corrinโ€™s attention before catching Red Sonโ€™s as well.
โ€œAre you even listening to me?! I, Red Son, will not be disrespected! Youโ€™re history!โ€
Corrin could barely open his mouth to beg his former friend before Xiaotian grabbed the staff from behind him, blocking Red Sonโ€™s strike with it, and shocking everyone around him.
Corrin only vaguely heard Red Son speaking, still in shock himself. โ€œNo way! How could you possibly lift Monkey Kingโ€™s staff?โ€
Princess Iron Fan seemed to be in as much shock as anyone else. โ€œThis is impossible.โ€
Corrin finally snapped out of his thoughts, muttering to himself. โ€œIโ€™m gonna kill him.โ€
Red Son seemed to brush off any shock he had rather quickly as well. โ€œI donโ€™t know whatโ€™s going on here, but Iโ€™m about to end it. That staff is mine!โ€
Corrin watched, panicked as the bull clones readied themselves to aid their master. โ€œSorry weโ€™re supposed to be on our break!โ€ With that, he pulled as much water from around him as possible, flushing a good number of them away.
Red Son, however, had managed to avoid the rush of water, and made his own attempt to stop Corrin, only to be knocked away by Xiaotian letting out a rush of power from the staff.
Xiaotian turned to Corrin, clearly panicked. โ€œUh, that was way more explosive than I expected.โ€ When he noticed Princess Iron Fan hit the ground with her Magic Fan, his panic came back even worse. โ€œStay back! I donโ€™t know how Iโ€™m doing this stuff!โ€
Princess Iron Fan glared them both down. โ€œThat staff doesnโ€™t belong to you, little boy. Hand it over.โ€
Corrin grasped Xiaotian once again, growing defensive over his friend. โ€œIt doesnโ€™t belong to you, either, Iron Fan.โ€
This seemed to anger the woman even more. โ€œHand. It. Over.โ€
Xiaotian seemed nervous, and the next words came out as more of a question. โ€œMmmโ€ฆ no?โ€
The staff planted itself into the ground, and Corrin knew all too well what was about to happen, causing him to grab onto Xiaotian even tighter.
Xiaotian, however, had no idea. โ€œOkay, I didnโ€™t even move that t-โ€ He was cut off as the staff launched both him and Corrin into the air, both of them letting out a loud yell.
โ€œI will never be used to this!โ€
The two, surprisingly, landed rather safely, with no major injuries and only slightly bruised, but wasted no time in rushing back to the tuk-tuk (Corrin still thought it was a stupid name), Xiaotian driving the two out of there as fast as possible.
โ€œCorrin, what just happened?โ€
โ€œIโ€™ll explain it to you after w-โ€ He was cut off by the sound of a loud engine revving before a flaming vehicle burst out of the construction site. โ€œIโ€™ll explain it to you if we donโ€™t die!โ€
Xiaotian did not ask anymore questions, nodding and attempting to speed up as fast as he could, to no avail, being unable to speed away from him and failing to lose him via quick corner turns.
Red Son glared down at the two of them. โ€œAlright, noodle boy, hand it over!โ€
Xiaotian and Corrin looked for something to stop Red Son, and Xiaotian frowned as he found what seemed to be the only thing he could find. โ€œIโ€™m sorry, valued customer. You wonโ€™t be getting your noodles.โ€ He handed them off to Corrin, who threw the noodles at Red Sonโ€™s vehicle, hitting the windshield. โ€œDang it.โ€
Red Son seemed irritated, quite literally going up in flames and using the windshield wipers to wipe off the noodles. โ€œFine! Have it your way!โ€
Xiaotian seemed panicked even more by this. โ€œAh! Youโ€™re really scary!โ€
Corrin glared down Red Son. โ€œHeโ€™s really mean is what he is!โ€
As Red Sonโ€™s vehicleโ€™s windshield wipers hit the back of the tuk-tuk, the Golden Staff activated again, launching the tuk-tuk, and by extension Xiaotian and Corrin, to the sky.
Corrin panicked even more by this, grasping Xiaotian tightly as they both screamed. โ€œGod I hate heights!โ€
The the-tuk fell on a building, bouncing the two from building to building as they continued to scream in their panicked states.
Red Son seemed about as unentertained as them, but for a different reason. โ€œWould you get down here so I can kill you?!โ€
Xiaotian apparently thought it was a great time to respond. โ€œNever!โ€
The two let out another scream as they fell into one of the buildings, into someoneโ€™s apartment.
Corrin gave a sorrowful look to the owner, who obviously could not see it thanks to how fast they were going. โ€œOh, weโ€™re sorry!โ€ Then, they burst out of the building, managing to somehow outrun Red Son.
Xiaotian let out laughs that sounded very forced, turning back to Corrin. โ€œI think we lost him!โ€ Of course, their luck had to run out, and the tuk-tuk finally decided it was done.
Corrin and Xiaotian both panicked at this, practically begging the vehicle to miraculously fix itself somehow. Corrin swore he heard Xiaotian mention something about Pigsy killing him later. Then, they heard Red Sonโ€™s vehicle behind them, followed by the demonโ€™s laughter.
Xiaotian let out a yell, grabbing Corrin and dragging him down the street as he attempted to make his getaway on foot, but slowed slightly as he saw someone on a Cloud Board ahead of him. โ€œSo sorry! I really need to borrow this! Bye!โ€ He yelled, taking the Cloud Board from his angered owner.
โ€œWoah hey, get back here-โ€ He was cut off, and Corrin could only assume the truck following them either almost or did hit him.
Red Son seemed excited that he was catching up, as was obvious in his voice. โ€œIโ€™m coming to get you, noodle boy!โ€ Corrin vaguely heard him let out one of his โ€œvillainousโ€ laughs that he had bragged about so much when they had been friends all those years ago.
Xiaotian struggled to ride the Cloud Board properly, Corrin gripping tightly and continuing to ramble about his absolute hatred of heights. The two smiled as the truck got stuck in a narrow street, seemingly stopping the pursuit.
This caused Xiaotian to let out a laugh. โ€œSee ya!โ€
Corrin had a bad feeling though. Red Son had always seemed to be prepared when they were close, and he had no doubt that he still was. In all likelihood, Red Son had already had a plan to continue pursuing them.
Xiaotian, on the other hand, did not seem to put too much thought into it, moving as quickly as he could down the street to get as much space between Corrin and himself and the demon. They continued down the road, and Corrin noticed a quick flash of a sign reading โ€œunder constructionโ€.
โ€œUh, MKโ€ฆโ€ Anything that could have left his mouth died out when he heard the rev of an engine, causing both him and Xiaotian to turn around, staring shocked as Red Son continued his pursuit in what looked like a race car.
Xiaotian let out a frustrated whimper. โ€œCome on, where did you get that!โ€
Red Son, surprisingly, overheard him over the sounds of his vehicle. โ€œWhat? You think I drive anything that doesnโ€™t at least have one complex transformation?โ€ The duo watched as the car sped up, now attempting to crush the two of them. Both, however, managed to survive, now instead stuck on top of the car.
Xiaotian sighed in relief at the fact that he was very much not dead, but then noticed the road coming to an end, causing both him and Corrin to let out a scream.
Red Son seemed to not notice. โ€œCorrin, I am trying to help you! Just come with me and you wonโ€™t be hurt!โ€
Then, the car drove off the end of the road.
To their surprise, and great relief, someone had managed to grab them, pulling them onto the motorbike they were driving (Corrin could barely hear Red Son yelling something in anger as they went past him) and landing them safely in front of Pigsyโ€™s Noodles, both very much still shaken from the whole ordeal.
The two watched as the biker suit basically disappeared (Corrin always thought that was cool), and the biker, a young woman named Xiaojiao, more affectionately called Mei by friends and family, pulled out her phone to take a selfie. โ€œNailed it!โ€
Both Corrin and Xiaotian let out an excited yell of โ€œMei!โ€, and Corrin rushed up to hug her tightly (which was happily reciprocated) having never been happier to see her in their lives.
Xiaojiao moved to grab Xiaotian and pulled him up to his feet with no effort. โ€œThat was an intense game of tag. You guys looked like you were having so much fun. I wanted to join in too!โ€
Corrin laughed nervously. โ€œActually, we almost died back there.โ€ Xiaotian nodded in agreement.
Xiaojiao shrugged it off. โ€œBut you didnโ€™t. So letโ€™s celebrate with a round of Monkey Mech!โ€ She pointed to an arcade machine on the street with her typical bright smile. โ€œYou should invite your new edgy friend, too.โ€
The two both spoke at once, a mix of โ€œheโ€™s no longer my friendโ€ and โ€œyeah, he was trying to kill usโ€.
It took Xiaojiao a moment to register what the two had just said, but she reacted quickly. โ€œWell in that case-โ€ she turned to them with a horrifying, dark smile on her face, โ€œwhere does he live?โ€
Any response was cut off by the loud yell of Pigsy, who likely heard Xiaojiaoโ€™s motorbike from inside. โ€œMK! Corrin! Where are you, you punks?โ€ The two watched as he pulled out his phone, holding it up to their faces. โ€œYou mind telling me why some bozo left a zero star review on Pigsyโ€™s Noodles?โ€
Xiaotian pushed Corrin out of the way, rushing frantically to find some excuse. โ€œOh! Uh, yeah. So, uh, hereโ€™s what I think happened with that-โ€
Corrin, however, was not interested in trying to cover it up. โ€œSome guy tried to kill-โ€
Xiaojiao gave neither a chance to continue. โ€œWoah, zero stars! Congrats! Thatโ€™s better than nothing, right?โ€
Pigsy turned to Xiaojiao, now glaring her down (though she seemed completely unphased). โ€œThatโ€™s not how it works, Mei! And you! I-โ€ He turned back to Xiaotian and Corrin to see that they had seemingly disappeared. โ€œWhereโ€™d they go?โ€
Xiaotian had rushed to grab Corrin, dragging him along as he ran into the noodle shop. โ€œMr. Tang!โ€
This seemed to infuriate Pigsy even more. โ€œDonโ€™t you run away when Iโ€™m trying to scold you! Get back-โ€ He was not given the chance to finish as the door covering fell down, cutting him off.
