Vinnie never liked him, from the moment you told him about the new guy you met, to the moment he met him face to face. He never hid it either. A grimace of disgust tainting his face when your boyfriend was around. It got to the point where everyone took notice of it and sided with Vinnie; your boyfriend sucked.
He was never on time, even on date nights and always left the bill for you to pay. When Vinnie found out, he was sure he hated the guy's guts. Every complaint to you about your boyfriend ended with a not so nonchalant shrug and “just saying,”.
It got to you, it really did, especially when the tattooed blonde distanced himself, much to your boyfriend’s enjoyment. He knew he wasn’t well liked, and it gave him an air of confidence, Vinnie would go as far as to call him borderline fucking sadistic.
He remembers the day vividly when your boyfriend waltzed into the room with you in tow and that stupid smirk on his face. Vinnie immediately disliked him, purely because of that fucking smirk that spoke a thousand words, ‘I’m better than you’, blah blah blah, Vinnie knew his faade was a pile of stinking bullshit.
“Who are you?” Vinnie snorted as he leaned back on the couch, legs spread. Although the question was directed towards your boyfriend, his eyes were glued to yours, his gaze heated.
“Uhm, guys, this is my-“ he interrupted you. Vinnie didn’t like that at all. He forced himself to take a deep breath, fidgeting in his seat to get comfortable. It didn’t work. “I’m her boyfriend,” he gloated with a nasty grin, and Vinnie was caught off guard by your soft smile directed towards your shitty boyfriend. It was a punch to the gut, seeing you with heart eyes not looking at him.
“Boyfriend?” Noah gaped at you, his eyes sneaking looks at Vinnie to gauge his reaction. He looked upset, and Noah knew why, but Vinnie himself wouldn’t admit it. He was stubborn that way, enough to break his own stubborn heart.
You smiled sheepishly, shy from the feeling of vulnerability that took over you as every pair of eyes in the room stared you and your boyfriend down. You hadn’t anticipated their negative reactions, it made you confused and disappointed, and a small tinge of embarrassment grew in your gut. Shame set your body alight, why would you be embarrassed to introduce your boyfriend?
“How long have you guys been dating?” Vinnie asked, a fake smile on his lips, it made you cringe. You knew Vinnie, both in and out, and you knew when he was genuine. He wasn’t now.
You turned to your boyfriend, tongue tied, “uhm, well we went official three days ago-“ he interrupted again. You really wanted to disappear.
“Babe,” he chuckled in a tone that Vinnie knew was condescending. “They asked when we began to date, not when we became official.” duh, you thought to yourself and quickly nodded with a small and strained smile.
You felt embarrassed, if he had let you finish your sentence then he would come to find out that you would’ve answered Vinnie’s question.
“Uhm-“ you stammered, he interrupted once again, sighing, “two months babe, two months.” Your stomach was hurting now and your face was burning as did your palms, so much so that your boyfriend let it go to wipe his palm on his jeans. ‘Oh god’ you felt mortified, hoping no one noticed the gesture despite standing on display in front of your friends.
Vinnie spoke, his eyes dark, “Maybe, you should, oh- I don’t know; let her finish speaking?” Vinnie glared at him, his posture less relaxed but he was still in the same position as earlier, though his hands twitched.
“Excuse me?” He took a threatening step forward, but you intercepted him quickly with a forced laugh, “okay,” you dragged out, “how about we stop this, and leave.” So you did.
Vinnie texted you an hour later, an apology, ending with him admitting to not wanting to lose you over a petty dick measuring fight. You reassured him that you weren't the type of person to throw away friendships for one guy.
He read the text with stinging eyes and a chewed up lip. He genuinely thought his chest was about to cave in, he saw his future, a future of which he painted with you by his side, hands intertwined with loving whispers in your shared bed, hidden from the world under the covers. It all fell apart. But he knew better than to admit his feelings to you. You were everything good in this world and he knew he wasn’t enough.
—————
Vinnie wasn’t a stranger to sarcasm, neither were you. Your new boyfriend on the other hand seemed to be.
It was supposed be a relaxed get together, celebrating summer with barbecue and drinks,
It was painful to listen to Vinnie disrespect your boyfriend whilst the boy in question unknowingly agreed to it all.
“You’re one of the nice guys, huh?” Vinnie smirked, his eyes mischievous as he stared at your boyfriend. His blood pumping the liquid courage through his body. Oblivious, he answered with a chuckle. “Yeah, totally dude, I hear it all the time.”
You went to interrupt before Vinnie took it too far, but your boyfriend quickly dismissed you with a hand on your thigh and a slurred whisper of “shh let ‘im speak, babe”
Vinnie rolled his eyes at the site, jealousy growing with each sip of alcohol. “Must be your pride and joy,” Vinnie murmured and your boyfriend huffed, “of course I pride myself in being a humble guy.”
“Vincent,” you snapped and Vinnie’s eyes went wide. “That’s enough.” You stared Vinnie down and he kept his eyes locked on yours despite your glaring, though your glaring eyes quickly turned soft the longer you stared at each other.
Your boyfriend spoke up, snapping your attention to him, though Vinnie didn’t care to remove his eyes from you. His eyebrows furrowed and a frown tugged down the corner of his lips, it looked ridiculous. “Is there something going on between you two that I should know about?” His words sounded forced as he spoke through clenched teeth.
You flinched from his words, your brows furrowed as you stared at him with a gaping mouth. “What?” Your voice shook and your face felt hot.
He rolled his eyes, taking a swig from his beer bottle. “You heard me,” he spat as he glared at you and Vinnie, though your gaze didn’t dare to meet Vinnie’s blank ones.
“I-“ you began before Vinnie interrupted you, his voice expressionless and his face equally so when you finally looked at him.
“Fuck you.” Oh god, you quickly stood up and glanced around for help to stop the fight that would inevitably follow. “Noah?” You yelled out and the boy quickly appeared with a lazy smile on his face before it quickly dropped when he saw your panicked expression.
He quickly walked up to you. “Woah, what’s wrong?” You were just about to gesture towards Vinnie and your boyfriend, but quickly stopped when your boyfriend clumsily stood up and threw the glass bottle toward Vinnie. Glass shattered on the concrete before Vinnie’s feet, beer staining his trousers and skin.
A gasp left your lips before you quickly ran forward to intercept your boyfriend who obviously wasn’t done. Vinnie had also gotten to his feet now, his eyes dark and fist clenched, his body tense as he stared your boyfriend down.
“Lil’ bitch,” your boyfriend slurred, your hand grasping his arm to hold him back. You tried to ignore him instead focusing on Vinnie who was now being held back by Noah. You took notice of the circle of which has formed around you, people curious to see what the escalation would be like.
Fingers pinched your arm tightly, almost breaking through skin. You tore your arm away from your boyfriend to see his glare directed to you now. Your arm burned from where he pinched you.
“What the fuck?” You exclaimed angrily as you gave him a light push. He wobbled a few steps back before he spat on your shoes, a disgusted expression on his face. “You’re his lil’ bitch, aren’t you?” He wiped the stray saliva from his chin with a crazed smile. “You’re his whore aren’t you?” You felt your nose burn as tears blurred your vision.
One second you were staring at your boyfriend, the next his body laid upon the ground, Vinnie straddling him, his fists flying. You could vaguely hear voices screaming, before Vinnie was quickly taken away from the bloodied man you once called your boyfriend.
Through your blurred vision you saw Vinnie being taken into the house by Noah and a couple of other guys, their faces pale.
“Hey,” a soft voice spoke. A blonde haired girl stood before you with a soft, shaky smile. “Let’s get you inside.” She didn’t wait for you to answer before she gently took your hand and walked you inside. You were grateful but your mouth felt wired shut. You wanted to know what happened to Vinnie and where he was taken to.
“Where is he?” She guided you to the plush couch and kneeled down before you, her hand still holding yours.
“Who? Vinnie?” She asked, her eyes quickly darting to the backyard where a commotion was still going on. You could only nod, a tear tickling your skin as it slid down your cheek and neck.
“They took him to the front lawn, someone called the cops.” Your heart stopped. “They’re hoping to explain the situation or something.” She gave you a reassuring smile. “He only protected you, stupidly of course,” she chuckled and you let a teary one out too.
“What’s your name?” Your voice cracked. She gave you a cheeky grin before answering you. “Phoebe, and you?” You told her your name and took a deep breath, “how bad is it?”
She sighed and chewed her button lip, “it looked worse than it is.” And it looked horrifying. You turned around to get a glimpse of your now unofficial ex boyfriend, and he was being held up by two guys, his nose bent and blood covering his lower face with splatters everywhere. Vinnie had done some proper damage in that short moment.
“Oh, don’t look,” she tugged at your hand and made you focus on her. She quickly got up and nodded to someone, whom you didn’t know.”
“She okay?” It was Noah, his hair disheveled and he looked flustered, his eyes quickly glancing outside before focusing on you again.
“Welp, she’s definitely shaken up and could definitely use a friend and some reassurance.” She gave you a small smile before walking back outside again. You wanted to thank her but you found yourself tongue tied.
Noah took a seat beside you, his body slumped against the cushions, and dragged a hand over his face before sitting straight. He looked exhausted.
“Are you okay?” You whispered shakily, your lips trembling. He snorted, “I’m fine, just tired from dealing with cops.” Oh god, your mind drew a scenario of Vinnie in the back of a patrol car.
“Is Vinnie arrested?” Your voice trembled, ‘god this shouldn’t be happening’ you thought to yourself.
Noah laughed this time, the sound loud in the quiet and tense living room. “Psst, no. They understood and they’re actually taking your man in instead for being drunk and disorderly.” Your mouth fell open before you quickly turned around in your seat again to find him again, but he was already gone. The guests back to mingling as though nothing had happened.
“Where’s Vinnie?” You asked Noah, mouth still gaping.
“Here,” another voice answered. Vinnie. He stood by the doorway with wrapped hands and a change of clothing. A sheepish smile on his blushing face. You quickly got up and wrapped your arms around his waist, your head resting on his hard chest. His arms quickly engulfed you tightly. “Thank you for standing up for me.” You sniffled .
“Meh, I always hated the guy.” You lifted your head to stare at him and a smile grew on his lips. “Just saying.”
——————
It took two months before you agreed to go out with Vinnie. He had planned the whole night, home baked pizzas with snacks and a handful of movies. You were both snuggled up under a shared blanket, hands intertwined. He rested his chin atop your head. “It feels surreal, you know?” He spoke. You moved to get a look at him. His dark eyes soft as they glanced at you under the glow of the lit candles on the living room table.
“It feels like I’m about to wake up at any moment and resent myself for this only being a dream.” He continued, he looked melancholy, as his inked hands nervously played with yours. “I never wanted to lose you, and I did anyway.” Your heart felt heavy as you listened. You wanted to say something but you could tell he wasn’t done speaking.
He sighed, forcing himself to let it all out. “I think I’m in love with you, I think I’ve been for a very long time. I don’t really know the definition of love but I know that you’re all I think about. You make me feel safe and nervous at the same time and it’s very confusing,” you both chuckled before he continued.
“I can’t see anyone else being in your place and if I had the power to, I would freeze time so I could spend an eternity here with you.” You were crying now and his warm hand lifted to grasp your wet cheek. His eyes were alight and a smile grew on his lips as he laughed.
“Fuck,” you sniffled, a smile covering your lips as your heart pounded in your chest. You felt indescribable happiness and love. The type of love written in books and wished upon falling stars. “I think I’m in love with you too.” You answered and quickly placed your lips on his.
His hands found their way to your waist before guiding your body down. He leaned over you, his lips still on yours whilst his tongue begged for entrance, and you let him. His tongue fought for dominance whilst he fit himself between your thighs. He slowly separated his tongue from yours and softly nipped on your bottom lip. A breathy laugh escaped his lips, his breath warming your swollen lips.
He quickly kissed your face, speaking between his kisses. “I” kiss “love” kiss “you” kiss.

It was all a stupid cliche in your eyes as you stared at the tweet Vinnie had posted. “who is she.” Simple as that, yet mostly everyone knew what he was referring to, but they didn’t know whom and Vinnie didn’t know either.
Like previously stated, it was all a stupid cliche- a masquerade party filled to the brim with influencers and small celebrities, crowding a huge mansion which felt tiny as you pushed your way through to get a much needed breath of fresh air, away from the liquor stained breaths.
You sighed in relief as you stepped into the cool L.A, two am breeze, the music thumping through the ground, vibrating your whole body. “I feel the same way,” a dark voice chuckled. Startled, you looked into the direction of which the voice came from, and there he stood, leaning on the wall, head tilted back and eyes on the night sky. He was dressed simple, something you rolled your eyes at, and his arms of which were folded in front of his chest was covered in tattoos. “Huh?” Was all that you managed to get out, your tongue deciding to twist on itself.
The corners of his mouth twitched as though he wanted to smile, but refrained from doing just that. “Wanting to get away for a few minutes,” his voice was velvety and , his skin shone red from the neon lights seeping through the huge windows.
“Oh- yeah, you answered stupidly, “totes.” You wanted to smack yourself. A laugh rumbled his chest and escaped from his lips as his head tilted in your direction, his eyes meeting yours. “Totes? Never heard that before-in real life that is.” Duh, because you’ve spoken like a bad stereotypical surfer dude.
You didn’t know how to respond so you simply nodded your head, very aware of his eyes trailing down your body. A tattooed hand entered your peripheral, “I’m Vinnie,” he introduced himself. It was then more sober you connected the dots, of course it’s Vinnie the Hacker. The only disguise he had was a black eye mask with black crystals in intricate designs; it looked expensive and it most definitely was, knowing who he was and all. You hadn’t bothered to wear a mask, but had regretted that decision the moment you stepped into the mansion.
You didn’t shake his hand. “Cool,” you shrugged mentally preparing yourself with whatever half assed excuse you could come up with to leave. ‘my apartment is on fire’ don’t want to jinx myself you thought afterwards. “Um, nice to meet you?” You sounded awfully unsure, and guilt brewed in your stomach when you saw Vinnie wince. “So,” he began carefully, trying to get an understanding,” what’s your name?”
But you didn’t feel like answering. “I’m hungry.” You spat out and his eyes widened. “What?”
“I’m hungry, so I’m going to leave. Bye.” You turned to leave but a careful grasp of your arm halted you, “do you want to get McDonalds with me? I’m kinda hungry too.” He sounded shy, and you couldn’t even imagine turning him down, he looked like a sad puppy for Christ sake.
“Sure.”
The drive to the fast food chain was surprisingly comfortable, even though Vinnie tried his best to get you to tell him your name; to no avail. And soon enough the two of you were seated by the window, both with big macs in hand, awkwardness thrown out the window as the alcohol induced hunger made everything taste oh so much better.
“so fucking good,” Vinnie groaned through a mouthful causing you to almost choke on your fourth bite. Your eyes didn’t leave his form, his hair in a disarray and his eyes closed as he ate the burger.
You forced a chuckle, “won’t your friends get mad or something?” You mumbled, playing with your fries. The tattooed man shook his head, “no? Why would they?” His eyes were on yours now and you couldn’t help but feel bare under his intense gaze.
“You kinda ditched them…” you trailed of as a smirk grew on his lips, his tongue quickly darting out to lick them. “Trust me they won’t notice.” He sounded sure. “Why?” You asked and this time he laughed softly, “you’re very curious, huh?” You shrugged, “I guess.”
He continued, “but no, they were pretty busy trying to get laid so I really doubt they’d notice me missing.” He stressed the word ‘really’.
“Oh.” He laughed again as he stared you down, “you’re really weird, y’know that?”
“Thanks?”
You and Vinnie had spent an hour talking nonsense, and when the two of you noticed the hard stares from the workers you both decided to leave. Vinnie had insisted on dropping you off at home but an uncomfortable feeling grew in the pit of your stomach as you politely declined, telling him a white lie to soothe his worries about leaving a girl in the streets of LA at three am.
——-
The morning after, curiosity had you in its grip as you reluctantly opened Twitter and searched for his handle.
@/vinniehacker: who is she. posted at five am. Quicker than lightning you exited the app, contemplating on deleting it completely, but you refrained from doing it.
You grew frustrated at yourself, you had an amazing night last night with an amazing attractive guy, and you full out blew everything to bits.
Your best friend tended to call you a flesh ball of anxiety, a saying that left a sour taste in your mouth and cheeks aching from faking a laugh. You were a people pleaser, but at the same time you hated everyone and preferred to be by yourself. So you did everything to stay out of the spotlight, simply rooming with your childhood best friend who went viral on TikTok months ago. And Vinnie was the opposite of staying out of the spotlight.
Before your brain had caught up to what your hands were doing, you had already entered the cursed bird app again, entering his handle, tapping on the tweet and reading through the comments. ‘she????’, ‘what?!’, all in a similar fashion. Speculations were thrown left and right and thirty minutes had passed of you endlessly scrolling, biting your lip raw until you tasted iron.
“Get up! We have an event to go to!” You wanted to cry, to come up with a lie that you were sick and didn’t want to spread it further. You lied a lot, at least tried to before your brain took you through the endless possibilities of consequences coming from said lies. So you heaved a sigh and got ready.
———-
The event was extremely overcrowded and overwhelming, the LA sun beaming down on bodies dripping in expensive perfumes, a cloud of strong smells begging for a headache to form. You were a plus one, a non famous one at that, so you stood awkwardly to the side as your friend and her famous friends took promo pictures. In your hand was a mimosa, minus the champagne, so orange juice.
You didn’t bother to keep up the happy charade, settling on frowning while sipping your expensive orange juice. You had half a mind to ask what brand of juice it was but decided that you were already looking stupid so there was no point of making it worse.
You were painfully aware of how lonely you looked so you grabbed your phone and entered the weather app, wondering how the weather in Hamburg was.
“So, uh, how’s the weather looking?” A velvety voice asked from above your right shoulder, warm air tickling your skin and you froze. Shit. “Uhm, cloudy with a chance of rain,”
You turned towards him and tried not to gape at what you saw. He was wearing a half buttoned white blouse with his hair slicked back except for a few strands in the front. He wore black and expensive looking trousers, and silver rings wrapped around almost each finger with a silver braided bracelet. His sleeves were rolled up revealing his tattoos on his sun kissed skin. And he smelled so fucking good.
He gave you a mischievous grin, “hey, you.” His eyes trailed over your form, several times with a glint in his eyes. You whispered a hey back, flustered for some reason and you were also ashamed, for what, you had no idea.
“I never got your name,” he muttered, his hands in his pocket. You could only shrug, words not agreeing with you. And there it was, that nauseating shameful feeling you got, you were ashamed of yourself for some reason, well you know why, but actually taking the bull by its horns are the hard part.
“I know,” he frowned at your answer, raising an eyebrow. “So you’re not going to give me your name, so I’ll just have to call you Cinderella then. “ he smiled smugly at the end of his sentence, as though he had conquered the world with his pinkie.
“Cinderella?” You asked confused and a smit insulted. “I didn’t drop my shoe…” you trailed off, combing through your memory, and sure enough, you had both your shoes on, or you would’ve noticed otherwise.
He laughed out loud, his teeth on full display and eyes closed. “No, you didn’t drop your shoe. But you did leave me with not being able to stop thinking of you…” he said, his eyes unrelentingly searching yours as if he could simply read your name in your irises. Your eyes widened and you felt as though your stomach was turning inside out. This has to be a cruel joke, you thought to yourself as you glared at him.
“That’s not funny,” you murmured through clenched teeth. He looked confused, brows furrowed. “It-it wasn’t a joke,” he said sheepishly. He looked genuinely hurt, and it made you doubt your insecurities.
“I genuinely had a great time with you last night, and I want to get to know you.” He kept his eyes on yours the entire time. “So please, what’s your name?” He sounded desperate, as though your name would unlock every story there was to know about you.
“Y/n,” you whispered and you watched in awe as he tested your name on his tongue, several times before settling with a “I like it, it suits you.” Vinnie telling you that your name suits you felt like a thousand suns were shining down on you. You bit your lip to repress the grin that was threatening to grow and instead you settled for a shy smile, praying that you didn’t have anything between your teeth.
“Y/nn!” A voice called, it seemed as though your friend had finished with her promo pics. “I got you a goodie bag-oh,” she paused when she saw the Vinnie Hacker standing beside you. “Hey,” she smiled and fluttered her eyelashes and a boulder dropped into your stomach. Of course, you thought. She’s so much prettier than me, and famous.
He only nodded in acknowledgement with a small ‘hey’, it didn’t deter your friend from asking a lot of questions. You took that as your queue to leave, slowly walking backwards whilst Vinnie’s eyes were on yours the entire time, looking confused as to what you were doing.
You quickly nodded towards your friend, who was still animatedly talking, whilst wiggling your eyebrows suggestively, ignoring the knot in your stomach.
Once again Vinnie looked confused before the dots in his head connected. His eyes widened before he shook his head, something your friend hadn’t noticed as she was too busy scrolling through her TikTok to show Vinnie a specific video of her. He mouthed the word ‘NO’ several times whilst staring at you with his wide eyes.
It was kind of endearing to watch him panic. A chuckle escaped you before he turned to your friend, an apologetic smile on his face. “Excuse me,” he said softly, eyes still on you before walking towards, grabbing your hand with utter care before he led you inside the building.
He stopped in an empty hallway, staring down at you with a smirk on his lips. “Trying to set me up with your friend,” he murmured lazily, eyes tracing your lips. “When you know fully well that I’m interested in you…”
It felt like a fever dream, and you had to mentally force yourself to focus on the situation at hand. Is Vinnie about to kiss me?
“You don't even know me,” you retaliated, a frown on your lips, your lips of which he still stared at. He shrugged at your answer, a serious look taking over his face. “So let me,” he began. “Let’s get out of here.”
You shook your head, “I can’t just leave my friend-“.
He interrupted you, “your friend who seemed very busy, in fact, I recall you standing by yourself.” You had nothing to say to that except for a gentle nod with a smile on your lips. Vinnie grinned in return before tugging out of the building and into his car. You had sent a simple text to your friend-‘ i’m going out, don’t wait for me <3’
————————-
Vinnie treated you to McDonalds, once again and took you to a look out, the city of angels to stare at whilst you both ate. His shoulder touched yours as you sat on the picnic blanket filled to the brim with greasy and mouth watering food.
“So tell me, how come I can’t find you anywhere?” He asked, his hand playing with yours, twisting your rings. It created a warm feeling in your stomach.
“I’m a private person,” you began, hearing Vinnie murmuring a ‘couldn’t have guessed,’ and you nudged your shoulder into his playfully, drawing a laugh from his lips. “I guess, uhm I don’t see myself in the spotlight, having people constantly judging my every move.” He nodded in agreement, looking lost in thought.
“I can understand that, it’s just unusual to see someone not famous in parties held by influencers.” You nodded, agreeing with him. “My friend is pretty famous and always makes me her plus one.”
“I like it though,” you stared at him confused whilst he stared at you with a small smile on his lips, almost looking shy. “Like what?”
“I don’t know, it’s hard to explain…” he looked lost in his thoughts.
“Try,” you pushed, his hand tightening around yours.
“I like that I can pursue this,” he gestured whilst you stared at him with wide eyes. “That you’ll be somewhat safe from the onslaught of comments you would’ve gotten if you were a public figure. This feels normal to me, y’know. Like it’s not for show, it’s just me and you.”
“Me and you?” You asked with a grin, his smile grew and he gave you a wink, “of course, this is our second date after all.”
“Is that so?” You bit your lip when he leaned towards you, his lips so close to touching yours, before he planted a small, almost phantom-like kiss on them. “It is so,” he gauged your expression before ultimately seeing the contentment in your eyes, and pressed his lips to yours firmly. You felt his hand grasp your cheek as he tilted his head to gain more access.
You were both breathing heavily before you disconnected your lips, but Vinnie took it upon himself to kiss your cheeks before traveling down your neck, leaving you even more breathless.
“I’m taking you on dates everyday this week,” he breathed into your neck and you felt your eyes roll back from the sensation and his sultry voice.
“I expect you to-“ he stopped you from talking with another kiss. “Shut up and kiss me,” he ordered and you did, for several hours, the once bright sun in the middle of sky, now dipping down on the horizon covered by the Los Angeles skyline.

You two had been playing for hours on end, Vinnie’s comforting voice in your ears as your eyes were stuck to your screen. It was your first time playing the game and when you had told him this; the boy immediately begged you to play with him, so here you were– tongue out in concentration whilst Vinnie carefully guided you through everything.
He made it less stressful, his whispers of ‘that’s my girl’, every time you managed to kill someone. His voice burning a hole in your chest, your wound on display. Your nervous laughter only grew the smirk on his lips. He wished to be sat besides you instead of listening to your laughter and frustrated grunts over discord. But he gladly stayed, constantly asking how you felt about the game, quietly asking you for this to be yours and his thing; playing Valorant together.
Everyone had been respectful, since they respected Vinnie, but it all went to shit when one of your teammates decided to blame you for losing that round. Swear words were thrown your way, so loudly that his mic went static.
‘go back to the kitchen, you whore’
‘slut,’
‘ugly fucking bitch’
You sat frozen in your seat, dumbfounded with a slack jaw. Your heart was beating so fast you were sure it’d fall into your stomach. Your mouth turned dry and your eyes wet with tears as the abuse continued on. You were embarrassed for some unknown reason.
Vinnie still couldn’t understand what was happening, one moment jokes were thrown around and then the abuse towards you came out of nowhere.
“The fuck did you just say?” His voice was low as he spoke into the mic, his eyes dark and the muscles in his arms flexing as he gripped his controller.
“This fucking bitch is ruining everythi–“
Vinnie interrupted him. “Shut the fuck up.” His face was red as he could only imagine how you felt.
The coward on the other end laughed, a mocking one that made Vinnie’s controller crack under his grip. Other players tried their hardest to get him to shut up but to no avail.
“What are you gonna do about it, bitch?” And before Vinnie could say something; the coward disappeared from the party.
You were still quiet and then you left too. Vinnie quickly exited the game and grabbed his phone, sending you a simple text.
‘on my way.’
He blamed himself for putting you in that situation, knowing how bad the abuse gets. The dark pit in his stomach growing as he floored it to your apartment downtown, his eyes constantly glancing to see if you texted him back, but nothing.
The rapid knocks quieted the sobs from your lips. “Y/n, please open the door.” You quickly got up and opened the door despite the confusion you felt about him taking his time to check up on you.
Your face was wet from tears and your breaths came out in gasps as the pain in your chest wouldn’t lessen. “Shit,” he swore to himself before inviting himself in and embracing your shaking body. Over your cries he could hear several plings, one after another. Your computer was placed in your living room, right where you both stood.
His eyes squinted, recognizing it. Someone was chatting with you on valorant. He carefully let go of you and walked over to your computer despite his name leaving your lips in a warning.
His eyes widened at the words that burned a hole into his irises. Threat after threat came in, all from the very same player who couldn’t handle losing a match.
“What the actual fuck?” He whispered as he quickly muted the guy before blocking him. His arms rested on the table, his head hanging in embarrassment. “I’m so sorry,” he whispered.
Your brows furrowed in confusion, his back to you as you spoke, your voice hoarse and cracking with each word. “Why are you apologizing?”
He slammed his hands down on the desk, needing to let go of the weight on his chest. “I knew that this shit happens all the fucking time,” he gestured to your computer, “and I still convinced you to play, all because I’m a selfish fucking asshole,” you quickly crossed the room to him to stop him from saying more.
“What the fuck are you talking about?” You sniffed as you stared at his shoulder which were rapidly moving up and down in beat of his rapid breaths. “Vin, calm down…” you trailed of as he faced you, his eyes red and the veins in neck standing out from withholding his cries.
“I wanted to have something with you, and it ended with some fucking asshole telling you to off yourself?!” He was near hysterics now, hands in his hair as he looked everywhere but you.
He continued to speak over you trying to calm him down, “I can’t lose you because of this!” Your hands grabbed his arms and pulled him towards you. You held him tightly while he tried to catch his breath.
“Hey-it’s okay, you won’t lose me over this; I promise.”
His voice cracked, “that’s not what I meant.” He spoke quietly, begging you to understand so he didn’t have to say it himself.
“I know,” you whispered into his chest. “I’m with you til’ the end, remember?” A teary chuckle left him from the memory of you and him, drunk, sitting in a bathtub together, promising to never leave each other.
He took a shaky deep breath to gather his courage. “I really like you, Y/n. Really, really like you.”
You hugged him tighter, a smile growing on your lips from his confession. You’ve always dreamt of this moment except for the tears and the situation that brought you two here, embraced by each other.
“I really, really like you too, Vinnie.” His grip on you loosened, his lips met your hairline to softly whisper, “can I kiss you?”
You whispered a ‘yes you can’ before his lips carefully placed themselves on yours. The knot in your stomach snapped and exploded into millions of butterflies as his lips moved together with yours.

You loved Vinnie, ever since you two met it was love at first sight. You both were shy in nature, but the moment you were introduced you were so sure you’ve met someone from your past life. The conversation between you two came easily, no awkwardness, just a melody each time your eyes met.
Vinnie was special, his hand grasping yours so he wouldn’t lose you in the crowd. Always keeping a napkin in his pocket since you always seemed to spill something. He often found himself comparing you to the sun, but quickly realized that not even the big star above his head came close in comparison to you. Vinnie loved you too.
Both of you kept silent, choked laughs and glances to one’s direction when the other wasn’t looking.
It was clear to everyone else, the love of which was growing everyday keeping you both prisoners in its grasp.
Vinnie was convinced he’d die if he never admitted it, his chest tightening as his heart grew and doubled its beats when you were around. But he was terrified of losing you if he spoke the truth, so he hid, despite his world crumbling every time another content creator asked for your number, which you always declined with a reserved smile, the smile you promised Vinnie was his.
—————————
Vinnie wanted to do something different for his upcoming stream that weekend. Instead of playing the usual games he wanted to bake a cherry pie with you, and you immediately agreed before the tattooed blonde finished his sentence. So there you were, flour coating your cheeks and clothes after Vinnie decided to throw some at you.
The whole kitchen was a mess, eggs and crushed cherries staining cupboards and clothes. Vinnie’s eyes were on you whilst you spoke to the viewers. You were a mess, but you looked so fucking beautiful with that smile that Vinnie would die for. He scolded himself when his thoughts crafted a world in which you stood before him, dressed in white and his ring on your finger. It stung, so deeply that he had to take a deep breath to come back to reality, the reality where you were only his friend and nothing more.
He remembered Noah telling Vinnie how he was his own worst enemy, and now he wholeheartedly agreed as he watched you in this perfect light, a beckoning for him to tell you his deepest secrets, but yet his tongue remained still and a bitter feeling grew in his stomach as he continued to watch you.
You were his opposite. Vinnie bore a dark cloud over his head, sometimes it’d rain or thunder, but now it was merely there, darkening his thoughts while you radiated sunshine and warmth. He stood no chance.
You gave the blonde a soft tap on his inked arm to bring him back from wherever his mind traveled to, something you were used to see happening. “You still with us?” You whispered, a smile on your lips but your eyes held a spark of concern.
To play it cool, the blonde gave you a wink with a cheeky smile, “for you? "Always." He looked back to the monitor so he could read the chat, but every time you let out a laugh his mind wandered to that special place again.
“Honestly, it looks pretty good,” you spoke as you glanced down at the cherry pie. “Why do you sound so surprised?” He laughed, knocking his shoulder softly into yours.
“Vin, have you met us?” He had to agree on that one. “Besides I’m no chef, and you’re always distracted,” because of you, he wanted to interrupt with, but he bit his lip to force the words back down his throat. “And when you’re not; you play around too much.” You continued.
He turned back to the chat with a exaggerated smile and waved his arms around, “you heard it here folks, Y/n and I are no longer friends,” you quickly grabbed his arms with a giddy laugh, “finally!” He stopped and turned to look down at you. “Bullshit, you love me too much.” He looked serious, but the corner of his lips twitching gave it away.
“Yeah, of course I do. Gonna marry you one day.” You mumbled but Vinnie heard it loud and clear. “Don’t say that.” He quipped. His heart was doing painful somersaults in his chest. “I’m serious, don’t joke about that.” He was sweating as he spoke, his voice shaking with each word. His stream had been long forgotten as you stood in front of him, eyes staring into his.
“Vinn-“ He didn’t let you finish. He compared it to blacking out as he told you how much pain he was in simply because you existed, and how he didn’t mind the pain because it made him feel alive. He came to when you told him how important he was to you too. “I can’t lose you Vin, I’m so scared that I’ll-“ he grabbed your face and quickly pulled you into a toe curling, passionate kiss. A kiss that warmed his heart and he could feel the cracks patching together. Your hands gripped his waist as the kiss continued to grow more passionate, and then you quickly pulled back in panic. “The stream!”
“Fuck em’” he smiled and pulled you back in for another breathtaking kiss. He couldn’t help the laughs escaping him as the kiss continued. He never felt like this and he knew that he would do anything to keep you in this life.

2009.
You were terrified as you stood before your new classmates with curious and judgmental eyes. You were vaguely aware of the principal's hands on your shoulders as he introduced you to the class with an overbearing smile on his wrinkled face. “Everyone, this is Y/n L/n,your new classmate.” Their eyes followed every little nervous twitch your body made. “…she doesn’t speak English all too well.” You snapped out of your stupor when he squeezed your shoulder and nudged you forward. “Go on, take a seat.” You listened.
——
At lunch you sat by yourself, timid and staring back at kids who stared at you. You didn’t have an appetite, you were angry, scared and sad. You were angry at your parents for taking you away from your comfort, your home and you were scared of these kids who seemed so much cooler than you. And you were sad because you knew this couldn’t possibly be your home. You didn’t fit in, and they all knew it.
Someone clearing their throat gathered your attention. A boy with wild blonde hair seated himself in front of you, you recognized him from your home room.
He seemed shy. “Y/n, right?” You nodded timidly, “I’m Vincent. But you can call me Vinnie.”
Everyday for the next two weeks, Vinnie would keep you company during lunch and recess, teaching you slang words and having your back when other children would pick on you. It took you a month to fully trust the Cole boy before you finally called him your friend.
He was your only friend, something you didn’t mind as he was everything you could ask for. He never once made fun of your origin, instead he was curious.
One year later you moved back home. You were conflicted, you had been bothering your parents from day one to take you home, but that was before Vincent became your other half.
You had told Vinnie the news during recess, his bright smile dropping from his face and his body tensing in anger. “Why are you leaving me?” He whispered as tears formed in his eyes. “I’m sorry.” And the damn burst as tears rolled down his cheeks. You kept on repeating yourself as you patted his shoulder awkwardly before wrapping your arms around his shaking form.
“I’ll call you everyday!” You promised with a hopeful smile. Your accent was thick as you kept on speaking over his sniffles. “We will be best friends forever, okay?”
You couldn’t keep your promise. You had tried to call him the day your plane landed, before you were stopped by your parents. It was too expensive to make such a call. So you didn’t, but not a single day went by where you didn’t think of the blonde haired boy. And you never left his mind either.
2023.
Vinnie felt a tug in his chest when scrolling through TikTok, a video of a girl who he recognized but couldn’t remember from where.
He couldn’t help himself when his thumb clicked on her profile and began scrolling through her account, brows furrowed the entire time. His lip was stuck between his teeth as he watched several videos of her. He was starstruck. “Who’s that?” He quickly paused his scrolling when the voice beside him asked. He felt as though he got caught with his hand in a cookie jar.
He looked at Noah who curiously stared back at him. “So?” He nodded towards Vinnie’s phone. “Who’s she?”
“I don’t know.” He mumbled back, focusing his attention back to the account. “She’s pretty.” Noah muttered as he made himself comfortable besides his best friend. Vinnie agreed with a hum.
“What’s that language?” Noah pointed to the caption of one of the videos. Vinnie’s brows furrowed even more, if possible. “I don’t know…”
The Beck boy snorted in amusement, “what do you know?”
The tattooed boy sighed, “I know that you can’t mind your own business.” He scrolled back up and clicked on her Instagram, very much aware of Noah watching the whole interaction. “Ouch,” Noah huffed before bumping his shoulder with Vinnie. “Slide into her dm’s”. Vinnie laughed at that.
“Slide into her dm’s?” Noah couldn’t understand what was funny. “Yeah, compliment her or whatever.”
“It’s weird.” He suddenly felt self conscious, staring at her Instagram. She really is beautiful, he thought to himself.
“Dude, you’re Vinnie the Hacker, even I blush when you send me a text.” He wiggled his eyebrows but yelped when Vinnie pushed him off the couch. “God, you’re fucking annoying.”
It took him three whole days before he gathered the courage to write a simple, ‘hi’. And it took you a day to answer.
‘Hi?’ Vinnie’s cheeks flushed as he imagined you thinking how weird he was for writing to you.
He took a deep breath before he started typing. ‘I’m sorry if this is weird lol, but I think we might’ve met before…’
His stomach was twisting into knots when the bubble appeared indicating you typing a message.
‘Yeah, because we have’ He was rightfully confused. It was stated in your profile that you live in y/c, and he can’t ever recall visiting that country.
A new message appeared. ‘Seattle, Washington. 2009? the new kid who spoke broken English?’
His heart fell into his ass. He quickly sat up, his eyes wide. “Holy shit!” He yelled out before trying his hardest to compose himself, despite his shaking hands and fast breathing. He typed, deleted, and typed again before you sent a new message. ‘can I call you?’. He didn’t answer, instead he clicked the call button on the upper right corner. You immediately answered.
"Y/n? Is this really you?” His voice shook, as it finally settled in. He found you. “Hi Vincent.” He could hear your smile through your voice, your accent still there, but you sounded so mature.
He quickly stood up from his bed and started to pace back and forward, his other hand in his hair. “Wait, I need to see you, y/nn.” You answered with a nervous hum before he clicked the video call button. It took a few seconds to connect and when it did; he lost his breath. There you were, still the same girl he befriended all those years ago, but you were grown and oh so beautiful.
“Oh my god,” he murmured as he continued to stare at you in awe, a laugh bubbled from his chest as reality set in. “It really is you!” You laughed with him, “yeah, Vin, and it really is you.”
He sobered up quickly and went quiet for a while, simply staring at you. “You promised you’d call…” he whispered. You chuckled awkwardly, biting the inside of your cheek before you answered. “We couldn’t afford to call, trust me when I say that I tried every. single. day.” You sighed, “I’m really sorry for breaking my promise to you Vincent.”
He couldn’t help but think about how good your English had gotten. He smiled. “It’s okay, I understand.”
“But you didn’t back then, did you?” He knew it wasn’t a question, it was you wanting to confirm for some reason. “Look, y/nn, my dad tried to explain it to me, and I wouldn’t accept it, and hey, look we’re talking right now.”
“Yeah, after fourteen years…” You looked shameful and it tugged at Vinnie’s heartstrings. It was the same look you had when the other kids picked on you.
“I want to see you.” He said seriously. You laughed, “you already are.” He shook his head and sat himself down in front of his computer, placing his phone down to rest on his screen so you could see him. He began typing on his keyboard. “No, I meant in person.” He began, his focus on his screen as he looked for something. “I’m booking you a flight here,”
“WHAT” you yelled, his eyes flickering to you for a moment before a grin took over his face. “Yeah, text me your address and I’m booking you a ticket to LA.” He left you no room to argue.
————-
The next week he found himself standing in LAX airport, gulping nervously as he waited for you to appear at your gate. He wore a black hoodie, paired with a pair of jeans and Jordans on his feet. You two had spent the rest of the night talking after he booked your flight. You had told him that you knew what he was doing since 2020, but admitted to being scared and was so sure that he wouldn’t want anything to do with you after all those years. So you simply let him be. He wanted to cry.
But there he was, bouncing on his feet as he waited for you, and he didn’t have to wait long. You appeared with a suitcase dragging behind you, nervously looking around before meeting his eyes. You quickly ran forward and tackled the tattooed boy in a hug, your suitcase quickly forgotten. “Oh my god,” he repeated as his arms wrapped around your waist. “I can’t fucking believe you’re actually here,” he sniffled, burying his face into your neck. You didn’t speak, you held him even tighter.
He slowly let go of you, though he made sure to hold your hand. “I’m taking you out on a date tonight.” He promised with shiny eyes. “Where do you wanna go?”
You gave him a teary smile and squeezed his hand. “I’ve always wanted to try In & Out,” you shamelessly admitted. Vinnie could only laugh in adoration as he took your suitcase, still holding your hand as he led you out of the airport.
“In & Out it is.”
