𝓤𝓷𝓭𝓮𝓻 𝓣𝓱𝓮 𝓢𝓹𝓮𝓵𝓵 𝓞𝓯 𝓛𝓸𝓿𝓮

When William Shakespeare sets the romantic love story of Romeo & Juliet in Verona, every day thousands of tourists from all over the world under the spell of love flock the famous city just to see Juliet’s balcony, statue, and the locks of love. The small courtyard in the Casa di Giulietta or House of Juliet is a spectacle in itself. This is the Stallo del Cappello, an old tower house dating back to c.1200-1300. According to tradition this was the house of the Capulet family, the family of Shakespeare's heroine. The house is an attractive brick and stone building with ivy covered garden walls. The entrance to the courtyard testifies to the enduring power of legend and the search for romance that we all carry in our hearts.

Like many visitors to the House of Juliet, we left our lock of love at the courtyard. Will we ever get to see it again someday?

At the courtyard, is a bronze sculpture of Juliet where people rub her right breast hoping to get lucky in love. The city is so famous for love that it gets countless letters addressed simply to Juliet, Verona, Italy. Thanks to the movie “Letters to Juliet”.

Inside the house is a small museum that holds a collection of antique engravings, period furniture, frescoes, and paintings to reflect the setting and story of the play. Juliet’s bedroom had the original bed and costumes that was used in the 1968 movie classic adaptation of “Romeo and Juliet” by Franco Zeffirelli.

Casa di Giulietta is located on Via Cappello and is open everyday. There is a small admission charge to the house but not to the courtyard. The small courtyard gets too crowded with visitors. To beat the crowds, especially in the Summer months, visit this shrine to romance in the early morning or late afternoon.

𝓥𝓮𝓻𝓸𝓷𝓪 𝓲𝓷 𝓛𝓸𝓿𝓮

Verona is universally known as one of the most romantic cities in the world. It doesn’t surprise that every year it becomes an even more special place during the week leading to Valentine’s day. It is called “𝒱𝑒𝓇𝑜𝓃𝒶 𝒾𝓃 𝐿𝑜𝓋𝑒“ and it’s a week of special events dedicated to all lovers who want to spend a romantic weekend in Verona. Streets in the city center are decorated with big lit up hearts and a huge red hearts is painted on the pavement of the central piazza dei Signori, one of the most elegant squares in Verona. Whether you're in love with someone or simply in love with love, it’s definitely the time of year to visit!

After visiting the Casa di Giulietta, we had lunch at the neighborhood cafe. They make the best spaghetti with aubergine and tomato sauce. Verona has its share of excellent eateries. The best eateries are the ones that cater to locals.

Spending the afternoon in an outdoor cafe watching the world go by.

Aside from the romantic fiction, Verona is packed with history. It is a beautiful destination in itself with a pleasing relaxed atmosphere, plenty of Italian sunshine and lots of monuments to love. It is one of the most beautiful and most famous cities in Italy which makes it well worth planning a trip.
