while halloween had never been one of freddie’s favorite holidays, he had decided to take a chance and attend the event in hopes that it would somehow cure this sense of mediocrity that he had been experiencing. unfortunately, that didn’t seem to be the case. he had lost sight of both cook and jj midway through the night and was debating whether or not to head back to the apartment when he spotted a familiar face. a smile crept across his lips as he decided to cross over to the other, throwing his arm around john-john’s shoulder. “john-john! what are you doing here? you didn’t strike me as the type to come to an event like this.” a chuckle escaped him. “hey, are you actually having fun? ‘cause i was thinking we could head outside for a second and smoke. i need to do something to take the edge off.”

cook’s words were enough to cause a frown to tug at the corners of freddie’s lips as he leaned in a bit closer to his best friend, allowing his fingers to delicately push back the other’s hair. he was never this gentle with anyone but cook and jj, the small intimate touches here and there contradicting their rowdy behavior in public. “unfortunately, allowing yourself to be loved and cared about isn’t easy when you’ve been told over and over again that you’re not worthy of it.” he murmured, gentle sigh falling from his lips. “but i’m a patient person, or at least… more patient than you.” he chuckled, his comment made in an attempt to lighten the mood a little bit while providing his best friend with some sort of reassurance. “you more than anyone i know deserves love, whether it’s romantic or otherwise. even if you never decided to give your heart anyway and let yourself be loved in that way, i’ll always be here taking care of you and showing you that i love you in the small ways i can. i won’t back down easily, so it doesn’t matter if you want to push me away.” he allowed himself to reach out and squeeze the other’s shoulders gently. “one day i know that you’ll believe it and allow yourself to accept the love that you deserve.”

at the stroke of midnight, freddie had found himself not necessarily changing in the same way that some of his peers did. although he had an air of confidence and swagger that unlike himself. amongst the panic and chaos that had broken out, he had decided to try and take advantage of the situation. certainly, no one would notice their wallets going missing if they were too busy freaking out. he had already swiped two wallets and slipped them into his pouch before continuing. his pace slowing when his gaze landed on someone who not only appeared to be wealthy but distraught. he cleared his throat as he slowly approached the other, “pardon me for prying but… you look a little upset. is there anything i can do to possibly help you?” of course in the end, he could hold doing the other a favor over his head and ask for some sort of payment.
