Quju robes are identified by the diagonal cut of the fabric at the front. It was worn around the same time period as the straight-edged Zhiju robes (直裾).

There are actually various types of Quju, some with curved sleeve bottoms, some are straight, some have thin collars, others are thick, etc. but they all share the same diagonal cut, with the fabric being wrapped around the body when worn.

For anyone interested in actually purchasing Hanfu for wear, Quju and Zhiju robes are AMAZING for fall/winter weather. You can wear multiple layers underneath, you can even throw a sweater and jeans underneath and no one would know. In the summer, however, the heavy and excessive fabric makes it feel like you're wearing a portable sauna 🥵🥵

Hanfu, the historical clothing of the Han people in China, has thousands of years of history. Since the 2000s, there has been a revival of Hanfu within China, with many Hanfu stores opening in the past two decades.

I first became aware that I could purchase Hanfu in 2021 and hoarded a bunch. Recently, I started digging more and more into the topic and realized that, while many of the Hanfu being sold are beautiful, they're not exactly true to the styles of Hanfu in the past. That's not to say they shouldn't be sold or worn, I'm not interested in gatekeeping what others wear, but I became intrigued by what exactly DID the historical Hanfu styles look like based on historical artefacts.

For my own interest, and for any others who might be interested, I'm going to try and do a series of the various Hanfu styles throughout the dynasties.

Everyone say hi to my opera magical girl shadowpeach au

Set in lmk verse

- new opera troupe in megapolis(? Or troupe gets a new manager, havent decided yet)

- the manager is baigujing LMFAO

- she brings her own opera ppl to the megapolis troupe, which includes mayor, macaque, spiders

- mayor doesn't really do opera I think he'd be more like admin. But hed fit some kind of wusheng, considering his past, and he could be like. Last minute understudy idk

- spider queen as a wu dan, but I also think she has the personality for a jing. Yea jing are men but everyone is gnc so. The spider henchmen are chou.

- macaque as a sheng + huashan dan

Wukong joins the troupe undercover to scope out baigujing/the "enemy." He plays sheng roles but is super bad at it HELP. He did try his best to audition for dan but. Macaque ate him up

The magical girl au part is when wukong is out of disguise and is the monkey king. In this au I'm kinda altering it to be like where sun wukong as his name isn't known, but the monkey king is known, so it's like magical girl hero persona vibes

Macaque also has a magical girl form where he has the ice armor and can turn huge like in the show. Cue sailor moon/phantom thief jeanne where ur rival is actually ur crush irl tralala

Design notes for the monkey king form

- the back of each flag has an insignia representing each of the pilgrims

- the front of the flags depicts stages of his life (birth, huaguo shan, havoc in heaven, journey to the west)

曲领中衣 Quling inner garment

One of the first impressions a lot of people have of Hanfu is the criss-crossed collar, but actually records show a turtle-neck style of inner shirt as early as West Han (206BC - 8AD). It was called Quling (领/ling meaning collar) and wrapped around the neck.

There are speculations that this garment is what influenced the round collar styles in later dynasties.

I have a short neck and anything wrapping around it makes me itchy (turtle necks, choker necklaces, etc.) so I don't have one of these in my wardrobe. But I think for winter it would be nice and warm to have once of these around :D
