@heartsbreaking sent: "Why the fuck are you here?" (For Maeve from Cassie)
Fucking Furious| Accepting
Maeve looked over at her. "The tone is unnecessary." She said. "I'm here because you looked like you needed someone, but clearly since you want to be alone I'll leave you to it."

@heartsbreaking said 'if anyone can give you the answer you want, it’s me. ’ (for jaslyn from queen maeve)
THERE IS ONE QUESTION THAT RIDES sharply at the point where her spine meets the neck , the anger , the hatred and craving to dispose of everything that stands in her way . it’s painful and sends a reminder of the scar that still sears upon her throat . dead she could have been , but instead she is left without a voice , and it’s all because of the selfish nature of others - their longing for power and control .
what she wants is to take it back , under the theory that they ever had it to begin with . hands move wildly as she communicates , not caring if the other can understand her or not ,❛ i want to know why ❜. though the question she asks likely comes with an answer that she already knows . again , power , control , money . even if the supe can’t understand her , the words display all across intense features , eyes holding the steady glare , the near snarl of lips exposing one canine , she concludes , ❛ what was the point of all this ? ❜

"Something about her wants you to do right." She said with another slight shrug. Though Maeve couldn't help but wonder how long it would be until that shine wears out or dimmed because of being around the Seven. "My treat." She said as she started toward the door. "Let me change and we'll hit up a restaurant or something."
things had started changing ever since starlight had come to work for vought. she should sent her a thank you note, or a fruit basket or something like that. "guess you're right about that." she was glad that maeve forgave the outburst and changed the subject. she'd been picking at crafty's selection all day while shooting, but she hadn't had a full meal. "yeah, starving actually," cassie laughed. "let's go find some food."

"I would like to think that I have some pull to be able to get what I want." She wasn't Homelander, but she would like to think that there was some weight to what she wanted. "You can thank Starlight for the change. She makes people want to be better." Maeve gave her a small shrug. "It's fine. I get it. You hungry?"
"right- i get that." what maeve said made total sense. just offering to help wasn't action and even though she had more pull with the execs, she couldn't guarantee anything. "even if it doesn't go my way, it means a lot. no one's ever really advocated for me before." cassie smiled and added, "sorry for yelling earlier."

"As odd as it sounds yes." She said. It wasn't like she was known to be helpful at least not for a long time. So yes it must seem odd, but Starlight seemed to bring out the best in her unfortunately. "Don't thank me yet. I don't know what they'll say, but I can try at least."

maeve was right, the department itself wasn't bad at all. they were generally nice and if you looked at them in the right light they might even have the public's best interest at heart. "you would do that for me?" cassie asked, surprised that maeve was offering "it would mean a lot to me if you did. thank you!" she knew there was likely a catch, but she'd take the offer of help no matter what.

"The PSA department isn't that bad, but I get it." She said. "You end up in a certain demographic and you certainly have a hard time breaking out of it." In fact for the most part once you were in a certain position then that is typically where you stayed. "But if you really want a change why don't I talk to Ashley and see if the two of us can do something."
cassie groaned, "it's humiliating. they've got me doing these videos to show in schools and on tv that are like "don't do drugs, kids. don't drink." she knew they didn't care about her as a person, vought just cared about their image and how it reflected on the company. "and the thing is, i wouldn't mind if it didn't feel like a joke. i know i did a kid's show and kids like me, but it's like they're laughing at me for how bad i fucked up."

SHE’S NOT SURE WHAT TO SAY TO THAT . everything maeve says is true . a hero shouldn’t do that . they are supposed to protect the underprivileged , intended to help the weak and destroy that which looks to harm – and yet , there they stand in their glory , being the very danger themselves . how could one come back from that ? a whole organization of superhumans , and they are nothing more than a catastrophe of mob rule , destroying everything in their path whether they intend to or not . ❛ you’re right ❜ she concedes , head dropping for a moment in thought . the agreement wasn’t one filled with warmth or determination to agree with her own statement , but one of factual integrity . regardless , the anger still swelled - it was a poison in her chest that she should have gotten rid of long ago , and yet ? it’s taken over every waking thought , each haunting dream . it burns her skin , festers upon the tips of her fingers that are needed desperately for her ability to communicate now … because of them . ❛ the question is , what do you do about it ? how do you change the view that not just i have , but thousands of others ? ❜
maeve knew she was distancing herself from responsibility. she wasn't responsible for what happened to this young woman, not personally, but she was responsible for other atrocities. for what happened to all those people on the plane and more. looking jaslyn in the face she kept trying to tell herself 'i didn't do this, this wasn't on me,' because it hadn't been. she had every right to be angry, but directing it at her was not quite right. she didn't want to be the cause of this, not on top of everything else.
profit, profit had been the purpose. vought had always prioritized profit and protecting their heroes over actually protecting regular people. they did background checks, but it didn't seem like they'd ever cared as long as they could cover up their hero's flaws and crimes they would. there was none, she signed. i'm sorry this happened to you. you have every right to be angry. it's not what a hero should have done. vought would hate that she was apologizing. she was supposed to deflect, she WANTED to deflect, but she fought the urge because she was trying to be better.

"Mhm I suppose that is true." She said. She was usually the only woman in the Seven so there wasn't anyone that could give her that much trouble. If you didn't count Homelander that was. "What do they have you doing?" Maeve certainly got it. She often time was paired with Homelander still after. "That's the thing about fucking up. Vought holds it against you for a while." Not that she had. "But if you give up you let everyone win, and you never struck me as a quitter."
she tried not to laugh at 'girl drama,' it felt reductive, but she wasn't entirely wrong either. "you've been in the big leagues too long. it can be both." cassie tried not to be too bitter, she wasn't even sure if she still wanted to be doing this, but sometimes it got the better of her. "got the short end of the stick from marketing cause apparently i'm still not marketable enough. i'm just fucking tired of it. i cleaned up, i did what vought asked and they're still treating me like i've got the plague. fucking ice princess is rubbing my face in getting everything again."

WASN’T SUPPOSED TO COME TO THIS ? it’s a nonanswer , a copout , even if the road had been paved with good intentions – there is no excuse . her throat had been torn open , vocal cords permanently severed and she will never get to hear the sound of her own voice again . ❛ damn right it shouldn’t have come down to this . ❜ how much more obvious could it be ? the world was in shatters , and over what ? jaslyne would argue it was for greed , power , authority . to maintain a chokehold on a failing government , and they were winning . the scoff that escapes her throat is forged with just mere parted lips to the side , eyes rolling while arms fold across her chest . there’s anger still settling , and it hasn’t improved simply because of six words . if anything , it feels as if she’s being lied to , forced to listen to a campaign slogan for the butcher carving up meat in front of a vegan shop . there’s no use . no purpose in the dangers that have swept the streets beyond what she’s already felt . ❛ why don’t you tell me what the purpose was , then ? ❜ @heartsbreaking
vought had insisted they try and learn asl for optics. that way they could show off how perfect their heroes were. she wasn't sure how many in the seven had actually learned, homelander sure hadn't bothered, but maeve tried. that had been before she'd been burnt out by all the media, by the fake crimes and the bullshit.
she tried to keep up with what the woman was signing, maeve's mind racing to remember enough sign language to both interpret what she was saying and how to reply. even if she didn't have a basic grasp on the language, the anger- no- fury on her face would have been more than enough. someone else might have buckled under her gaze, but maeve was well used to this kind of hatred. the point? she asked, brows creasing as she thought about what else to say. how compromised had her morals become that she wasn't sure how to answer when essentially asked why she still did this. we were supposed to be helping people. that was honest, that had been why she'd done it. it wasn't supposed to become this.

"So what seems to have you in a mood?" Maeve asked. She did her best to act as if she didn't care about people, but she did. It was just the years of being a hero certainly caught up to you. "Or is it typical girl drama as opposed to something in Vought?"
cassie hadn't expected anyone to come after her. nor for anyone of real importance at vought to care, the caring caught her off guard, especially coming from maeve. she sniffed, looking the other woman up and down to try and figure out whether she was serious about checking on her. "no, don't- i don't. you can stay."
