if there’s anything that gives him a semblance of normalcy, it’s that he almost feels like he’s at home. it’s the controller in his hand that fits right like a glove, nestled in between his palms as he’s key smashing away through the next mini game. a measly victory compared to the way crowned’s pushed like a bounding sense of pressure — crowned’s supposed to suffocate him, but in reality, it’s the last few seconds of the mario party mini game that has him pressing his breath against his throat, leaving out that grand sigh of relief when game over’s printed on the screen.

he looks over at ki, hand at a standstill awaiting a high five. high fives for the way he’s managed to sneak out amidst the non-stop filming.

“i’ve never seen an npc peach that isn’t a bitch.” his voice is brighter than usual, a half-step away from the sullen sounds of melancholy he’s been soaking in. a month or two passes, and time still doesn’t heal everything — though, it helps.

it helps when he’s basking in the presence of human comfort. days upon days, and he swears he’s lost any trace of his humanity when he’s tissues in, drunk and dazed. a lifeless body, picked back up piece by piece (for that, he owes her. never forgets it either). so, he tells himself, even if he’s not built back to normalcy, he can attempt to take rest here.

his mouth curves into a grin, dropping the controller to the side. “this is the most fun i’ve had on crowned. actually, the most fun i’ve had in a while.”

the studio space is quiet sans the random vocals propped in through the speakers when they’re in-between takes of recording. her voice sinks low, and static silence takes over by the cue of the producer, cutting for a few moments break. 

not enough hours in the studio, and too many in the different filming locations leaves her out of place. unassimilated. drawn far from the usual notion of slipping right into the nooks and crannies of a group recording — yet, seo minjung doesn’t make it known. instead, she keeps her lips sealed with a stagnant emotionless face, her eyes taking in the small details of her surroundings.

across from her sits the empty chair of a producer who’s probably gone for his quick nicotine fix. to her left stands a manager too tired for words when the yawns speak for more than what he has’t said in the entirety of the day. then, to her right mirrors the same fatigue — her group member’s yawn. too many times she’s caught kiana dozing off from the corner of her eye, and it’s curiosity at this point that leaves her to lean back with her legs crossed, arms across the chest.

“are you tired?” she asks, her voice down to a lull. “you’ve been yawning more than hippos do, and you know what they say — hippos only yawn so much when they’re nesting for two.” her head quirks, and her lips stretch out across her face. “are you nesting for two?”

there’s a funny thing to accept regarding fatigue. ignorance to the way it takes your bones, heaves a weight ten times heavier where you have to drag one limb to another, moving in robotic motions back stage of the music show. yet, given the choice of the night prior — chung gyujeong would follow through in a heartbeat, finding the times of good company, good memories and long-dued conversations filling the space a better remedy than any hours of sleep bungled up in his apartment.

given the tempest schedule and rapid fire movement from one setting to the next, music shows become the last of his worries when he’s ten feet entrenched in fatigue.

perhaps, the remedy of it all stands when a key figure of his friendships comes in the next room, a few knocks away. no restrictions, and no second-hand guessing of what his manager’s underlying groans and heavy sighs. that shit settles itself for another day, and now, gyujeong tends to the next door, knuckles knocking away before sliding his head past the opened crack.

“hey, got room for one more?” not a question, more of an assertion as he scans the area, no sight of the fuse leader, only the lethargy of some over-exhausted manager. his mouth furls accordingly to a grin, closing the door behind as he finds a seat in the empty chair across. “i’ve decided to dedicated myself to camping more — makes the next day music shows a hell of a lot bearable. who knew.”
