Yesol's Family Song Album Front.
This compilation of family songs by Yesol was issued by Hankook Records in 1986. The album, produced by Lee Gyu-dae (이규대), emerged following the unexpected success of the track "My Name (Yesol)" from the prior release. All compositions were crafted by Lee Gyu-dae, drawing inspiration from children's poems written by Kim Won-seok (김원석).
The album features the subtitle, "My friend Myungrak folded a paper boat and floated it on the river. Oh my! Yes, I live with laughter. Mom and Dad!" (내친구 명락이 종이배 접어 강에 띄우고 아이야! 네, 웃음으로 산단다 맘마빠빠) It was released on April 5, 1986, categorized as a regular album under the production company Korean Album, with the album number HC-200302.
A children's song about regret for one's family
In the 1970s, Lee Gyu-dae, as a member of the mixed duet Bubble Gum (바블껌), played a significant role in popularizing camp songs among the youth. After a period of absence from the music scene, he returned in 1984 with the album "Mac," released under Jigu Records, which featured both his original hits and songs performed by his family.
One of the standout tracks from this album, "My Name (Yesol)," showcased the voice of his young daughter, Lee Ja-ram (이자람), and quickly became a favourite due to its engaging melody. Motivated by feelings of guilt over his past neglect of family following his divorce and remarriage, Lee sought inspiration for children's songs. While hosting a children's song contest, he discovered poems by Kim Won-seok, which he adapted into music, including "My Name (Yesol)." The name 'Yesol,' derived from the poet's daughter, was used in the lyrics without alteration, leading to the public affectionately referring to Lee Ja-ram as 'Yesol,' which subsequently became her stage name.
Family songs with natural sound
"Yesol's Family Song," released by Hankook Records in 1986, was crafted by composer Lee Gyu-dae, drawing inspiration from the original poems of Kim Won-seok. Following the success of "My Name (Yesol)" from his prior album, Lee Gyu-dae focused exclusively on family-themed songs for this project, driven by his dissatisfaction with earlier recordings.
The preceding album, "Mac," presented a blend of family-oriented and personal tracks, resulting in a somewhat ambiguous musical identity. In contrast, "My Name (Yesol)" showcases a distinct evolution in Lee Ja-ram's vocal performance; while the earlier version features a youthful and somewhat awkward delivery, the rendition in this album highlights a more polished and natural sound, reflecting Lee Ja-ram's growth as an artist.

Yesol's Family Song Album Back
Following the release of his album, Lee Kyu-dae transitioned from a singing career to that of a scriptwriter. He primarily contributed to programs such as "Show Star Departure," which served as a platform for emerging artists, and "Stage of Friendship," designed for military personnel.
In contrast, his daughter, Lee Ja-ram, who pursued studies in Korean traditional music, showcased remarkable skill by performing Chunhyangga for an impressive duration of eight hours in 1999. Since then, she has engaged in a variety of innovative pansori performances and currently leads the indie band 'Maybe Lee Ja-ram Band.' Additionally, she portrayed Song-hwa, the female lead in the musical "Seopyeonje," earning accolades including the Best Newcomer Award and Best Actress Award at the Musical Awards, thereby representing the new generation of Korean traditional musicians.
