I have seen him climbing to the parlor,
I have seen him hosting guests,
I have seen him crumbling with the parlor.
桃花扇(tao hua shan; a peach flower fan) is a play, or an opera from 明朝(ming dynasty) by 孔尙任(kong shang ren). Its a love story of an young scholar, 侯方域 (Hou fangyu) and a courtesan 李香君(li xiang jun).
The story is about 侯方域 trying to help 李香君. Hou gave a fan to Li as a token, with a poem on the fan. But Hou was dragged to political distraction, they parted. There was a liese who wanted to have Li as his concubine. Li tried to save her love for Hou. She struggled and resisted, then she got hurt. Her blood scattered on the fan. Later, the leise picked the fan and made the blood stains to peach flowers.
Fortunately, Li succeed to flee to a mountain then she became a Taorist. Finally, Hou and Li met in that mountain, and that time Li still had the fan. They felt they were falling in love to each other again. But her mentor found out, the mentor tore the fan, Scolding their stupidity. Because that time, the entire country was suffering ruination. So they both became taorists. I know what a rubbish ending. I usually blame those to 孔子.
The hero and the heroine are based on real persons, also the description of ming dynasty era shows historical values. It's been dramatised with many different format; films, tvseries..etc.

This story is very similar to Liu qianqiu situation. She was promised to be saved by Yu qifeng. The difference is that Yu qifeng betrayed Liu qianqiu, where 侯方域 had not.
I'm not so sure exactly who is saying the phrase in what circumstances.. but the title 桃花扇 generally means chastity and unbreakable love. Wen kexing was saying that while watching Gao chong and others had fought.
So I'm guessing, It must be 李香君 that she was lamenting about her life saying she had seen many people who would have done anything for her but they had just disappeared. She would keep selling her laugh and singing until she got old and lost.
Therefore, Wen kexing is wishing them collapse? Whatever they're saying doesn't really matter that because what they are doing doesn't mean anything to him but his plan??

Sea changes to flat land, snow mountain is covered by cloud, my eyes fade like dust for a long time, yet my heart hasn't changed.
Sad misfortune.
Liu Qianqiao and Yu Qiufeng.. 😮‍💨

Willow trees are green in 平江(ping jiang; flat river or ping river), the flower and moon stay together.
Every year time passes, after the ice disappears.
Sea changes to flat land, snow mountain is covered by cloud.
My eyes fade like dust for a long time, yet my heart hasn't changed.

The references say it is from 生查子(shēng chá zǐ) by 歐陽修(ōu yáng xiū) in 宋朝(song dynasty), It seems it has rearranged by the scriptwriter. Because the actual 詞(ci; tranding songs?) is the below 👇
Last year, the day of the first full moon, the flower market lights were as bright as daylights.
When the moon hangs on top of the willow, after subset, we have promised to meet.
This year, the day of the first full moon, it seems the moonlight and market lights the same.
I don't see the person who I promised last year, my sleeves bedewed with tears.
The poem is about a women missing her beloved, it was a trend in 宋, that many of them being not known the authors. The experts only guess that most of them are written by women as the contents of them are uaually about love.
When I first saw the poem I thought it was from 莊子(zhuang zi) that his writing is very metaphorical that a sentenses usually means many different things. Well usually those old scripts are full of riddle that the interpretation varies a lot according to the interpreters. look really like from 莊子. Because my language limitations I might misunderstood.

The deference is that the actual poem is missing someone where the rearranged one is about eternal love. And it makes the situation more tragic.

I'm sure when Yu qiufeng hugged Liu qianqiu, he had intention to kill her. That's why he grabbed her neck. He must have noticed that Liu qianqiu knew and did nothing about it. In the drama, Yu qiufeng is described as patty and crafty. However he just said "misfortune", then let her go. I guess Yu qiufeng cannot kill Liu qianqiu and Liu qianqiu cannot kill Yu qiufeng. If I think about their ending... What a tragedy.
At last when Yu qiufeng meets Liu qianqiu, He asks her “Have you forgotten me?” despite his situation.
