Chinese Mythological Animals
I wrote this to myself as part of an accompanying notes for another novel I was reading, but I think this might be fairly interesting to some people so here it is!
鲲(Kun) and a 鹏 (Peng)
(Stole this from Baike)
The 鲲 Kun is a fish that could turn into a 鹏鸟 (Peng Niao), a type of bird. It was rumoured to live in the Northern Sea. Legends said that its wings were huge and could cover the sky, and when it changed, it flew south.
The origin for this creature comes from the Taoist classic “A Happy Excursion 逍遥游” written by the Philosophy Zhuangzi.
