Happy National Cat Day in Japan! 🐈

We, Japanese cat lovers, call February 22 (2/22) the “Cat Day – Nyan Nyan Nyan Day” because the sound of number 2, “Ni” (Japanese) sounds similar to meow, “Nyan” in Japanese. We say “Nyan” instead of meow.

Today there is a free model session as part of the Weekend of Art event hosted by the Los Alamitos Community Center. So I took the Bus riding through the rain South to sketch. Dinner with friends at Hoff's Hut. Chily cheese soup and chocolate cake. 透明水彩を基本にしつつ、公園内の芝生や樹木の瑞々しく広大な印象を描きました。

One of my most favorite movies is "Love Letter" (1995) in which the story takes the viewer from the big metropolitan Kobe to a small town in Hokkaido named Otaru connected by a set of lost love letters. I remembered how bleak, lonely and sad the landscape of this northern town was in the film. Years later on the train going from Sapporo passing by this very same coastline I looked out the train window and saw again that solitude and loneliness ... yet I felt it was so beautiful such a sad scenery. And I thought only people living in such a stoic, and quiet place would really know how to love another person to the very end and would never leave. Today I discovered that there was an ACT (Alhambra Community Transit) Bus that would literally take me straight to the Joslyn community center. That means I could take my time and had my lunch around the area. So after the portrait session, I went to 99 Ranch next door and had a grilled Tilapia lunch from the Filipino stall inside the store. A 25 oz Foster beer only costs $3.49 - Courtesy of the supermarket. I slept like a baby on the Bus home. Today's Portrait Session was not so crowded perhaps due to St-Patrick's day! We got a very good model! "Claudia" @cl0ds @anzzora , a very cool artist who's also a very good painter herself. She agreed with my observation upon fooling around but not messing around!
