What a stunning little figure. This Astro Boy toy from Pop Mart wasn't commercially released in my country (due to licensing agreements) so I was very lucky to find a few blind boxes locally.

I love the variations in textures and paint finish, it really evokes the fabric on metal look - and the big glossy boots. And great gesture sculpting.

It's a beautifully unique toy of a classic pop culture icon.

Today, April 7, is "Astro Boy's Birthday" since the manga Astro Boy first appeared on this day in 1952. The design appearing on the "50 Years After the War Memorial Series No. 5" stamp (issued in 1997) was composed based on Osamu Tezuka's self-portrait and an illustration of Astro Boy.

今日4月7日は1952年(昭和27年)のこの日、漫画・鉄腕アトムが初めて登場したことから「鉄腕アトムの誕生日」だそうです。 「戦後50年メモリアルシリーズ第5集」切手(1997年発行)に登場するデザインは、手塚治虫の自画像と鉄腕アトムのイラストを元に構成しました。

Watching this gives me chills. The song (peak!!), mixed with the animation of Atom going from single drawings, then to a flipbook-esque animation sequence, followed by him in being colored and flying forward, finally flying upwards. I'm probably just being an animation nerd but DAMN it's beautiful.
