矢口史靖 × 野村正昭トークセッション～矢口史靖監督と『デビュー作の風景』～　 矢口史靖『映画監督はサービス業です』野村正昭『デビュー作の風景』（DU BOOKS）同時刊行記念

【ジュンク堂 池袋本店】 年間映画鑑賞数1000本。 とにかく多くの映画を目にしてきた映画評論家・野村正昭が、独自の目線で選んだ新旧77名の映画監督の処女作を取材を交えて紹介する書籍『デビュー作の風景』。 今回はこの書籍と、同じく野村正昭が聞き手を務めた矢口史靖監督の最新著作『映画監督はサービス業です。』との同時発売イベントとなる。 矢口史靖監督にとってのデビュー作『裸足のピクニック』と、8/16公開となる話題の最新作『ダンスウィズミー』を比較し、映画監督にとってのデビュー作とは何なのかを語る。 また、野村氏による、数々のデビュー作の変遷を追うことで見えてくる日本映画史とは。

【講師紹介】 矢口史靖（やぐち・しのぶ） 映画監督。 1967年5月30日、神奈川県出身。東京造形大学入学後に8㎜映画を撮り始め、90年に長編映画『雨女』がPFF（ぴあフィルムフェスティバル）でグランプリを受章。 93年に『裸足のピクニック』で劇場映画監督デビュー。 『ウォーターボーイズ』（01）、『スウィングガールズ』（04）、『ハッピーフライト』（08）、『ロボジー』（12）など、次々とヒット作を世に送り出す。 最新作『ダンスウィズミー』は長編映画第10作品目となる。

野村正昭（のむら・まさあき） 映画評論家。 1954年、山口県出身。東映洋画宣伝室で映画の宣伝に携わったのち、広告代理店勤務を経て、映画　評論家に。 キネマ旬報ベストテン、毎日映画コンクール、芸術選奨などの選考委員も。 近著に『曽根中生自伝』『まわりり舞台の上で　荒木一郎』（ともに文遊社）、『映画監督 佐藤純彌』『デビュー作の風景』（DU BOOKS）など。年間鑑賞映画本数1,000本を超える、日本で一番映画を観ている映画評論家。

動きといい、エネルギー効率といい、思考能力といい、人の気持ちがわかるこれほど素晴らしいロボットは無いですね！？ロボジーは科学技術に一石にも二石も投じていると思います。いえいえ、それを目指すのはが科学技術！と言うんですが、しかしそれは５００年後か？　歴史を振り返れば、、、５００年後の人たちにとって、５００年前の今の技術は何らかのマイルストーンになっているでしょうから、���できる最高の技術を全力で目指すことは重要なんです。

Known for his feel-good light-hearted comedies that champion the underdogs, such as Waterboys and Swing Girls, writer-director Shinobu Yaguchi most recent film, 2012's Robo-G, also follows a similar vein. But it still does so in a very entertaining and touching way. A struggling trio of engineering novices are tasked by their boss to create a fully working bipedal robot for a forthcoming expo (the set-up and characters reminded me of this level from 燃えろ！熱血リズム魂 押忍！闘え！応援団2 of all things). However, when their prototype is destroyed, in desperation they cast someone to dress up in costume and perform as their robot. Enter Suzuki (Mickey Curtis), a cranky old codger with nothing better to do. Will they be able to pull off their crazy scheme?

Well, of course, to an extent. But then this isn't a film designed to surprise, but simply to delight. And in that it largely succeeds. Curtis (credited as Igarashi Shinjiro) plays it nicely deadpan, so even when it all gets pretty silly and credulity gets stretched, he keeps it all grounded. It helps too that the robot design is frankly adorable, a very classic clunky look, built from scraps of other electric appliances. So even just watching him walk around and interact with his surroundings raises a smile. The humour may be broad, but its mostly good fun. The only major problem is its female lead (Yuriko Yoshitaka), who is the kind of crazy but cute obsessive that only seems to exist in these kind of films, and seems to be there just to be perved over. As the film continues and she carves out a more important role in the story, she becomes a little more rounded and dials down the wackiness. But the pace of the film starts to suffer from her diversions, and she still feels like a somewhat jarring presence that never finds her place in the narrative or fits in with the overall tone.

There are clearly a bundle of social themes at play - an increasingly ageing population, the fracturing of extended families, the future of technological development and innovation, the role of robotics, the need for small businesses in the face of global corporate dominance. Some of these issues are more foregrounded than others, but it never feels like it is pushing any agenda too far, except perhaps "Hey, old people can be useful and lead interesting lives too!". And that's a nice enough sentiment for it to get by on. Crowd-pleasing and easy-going it may be, but there's more to Robo-G than meets the eye.

If you haven't still watched 「ロボジー」, the latest Yaguchi Shinobu movie, do it now, because it's not only the usual Yaguchi amazingness, there's this kind of bitter humour, Mickey Curtis is amazing, Hamada Gaku is cuter than ever, and there's a Yoshitaka Yuriko genius of robotics (but failing in her own usual way). Seriously, do it.  This man's movies are always worth their while.

「ハッピーフライト」や「スウィングガールズ」の監督・矢口さんの最新映画、 「ロボジー」の原作になります、サラっと読めました。 「ハッピーフライト」や「スウィングガールズ」も非常に楽しめましたが、 ラストシーンの余韻は、オーソドックスながらも個人的には好きな感じです。 "嘘から出た実"、、になるやならざるや？ 予告編などで目にしている映像がイメージにあったからでしょうか、 とりあえず、映画を観に行きたくなりましたよっと。
