Ya know, it'd be funny & very cute if Guntz were to tease Leorina by always calling her "baby girl".
Leorina would get flustered, but annoyed when the Golden Killer nicknames her like that....
But in her mind, the Sky Pirate extremely loves it when the damn, most handsome & hottest wolf bounty hunter calls her "baby girl"....
& She prefers only HIM to call her "BABY GIRL"!
Guntz: Better luck next time, baby girl.
Leorina: SHUT THE HELL UP YOU DAMN WOLF! AND STOP CALLING ME THAT OR I'LL SMASH YOUR ASS!
......As soon as she watches him leave, driving the red clan away as far away from....
Leorina: That's right.....ONLY I'M HIS BABY GIRL! DAMN, I LOVE IT WHEN HE CALLS ME THAT! NOT TO MENTION HE'S EVEN HOTTER EVERYTIME HE SAYS "BABY GIRL" TO ME AND ONLY ME! YES ONLY I'M HIS BABY GIRL AND NOBODY ELSE'S! OH GODDESS GLAIRE I AM SO THE GOLDEN KILLER GUNTZ'S BABY GIRL FOR ETERNITY! *Sighs* If only I could make it even hotter by calling him daddy....
Tat: Um...Leo...you do realize that not only I'm floating next to you, without you noticing btw, but that you also said pretty much MOST of that loud enough for anyone around this area could hear you?
Leorina:
Tat:
Leorina: AAAAAHHHH!!! TAT! LET'S GO! TO THE CRIMSON IRIS RIGHT NOW!!!
Tat: *sighs* Swear to Goddess Claire this girl.

[Klonoa 2 spoilers] A Leorina-related factoid
I was doing some research earlier tonight and learned something interesting about the original Japanese version of the game:
The name of Leorina's boss form (when she's overtaken by the power of sorrow) is officially "Cursed Leorina" in English, as you may already know. What I didn't know until now was that her Japanese name is noticeably different:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(As a side note: all of the guidebook images in this post were originally scanned and uploaded by Klonoa @ Blog!)
The boss's original Japanese name is "忌まれしレオリナ," which means something like "Detested/Abhorred Leorina." (The grammar of the adjective is unusual: 忌まれる is the passive form of 忌む, a verb meaning "to shun," but with the final kana replaced with し. From what I've read, in classical Japanese, this simultaneously indicates the past tense and conjugates the verb such that it affects a noun - in this case, "Leorina.")
To me, this makes more thematic sense. The conflict of Lunatea's Veil ultimately turns out to be rooted in how Lunatea at large insisted on completely ignoring and rejecting sorrow, so Leorina becoming "detested" once the power of sorrow overtakes her fits perfectly.
Also, as a postscript: the Shogakukan guide for the game does at one point refer to the boss as "カースドレオリナ," a direct transliteration of "Cursed Leorina" into katakana.

i'm watching japanese klonoa 2 let's play and another instance of popka being nicer (to whomever he's talking to) in japanese than in english.
english:
Popka: Uh-oh! Lolo! Klonoa! We've got to go after Leorina!
Lolo: No... This isn't right. We have to shut down the reactors!
Popka: Great time ta grow a conscience!
Lolo: Klonoa!
Klonoa: Let's do it!
japanese, ft very rough translations:
ポプカ 「や、やべえ!ロロ、クロノア!!レオリナを追うんだ!」 [Popka: C-Crap! Lolo, Klonoa!! We've got to chase Leorina!]
ロロ 「…ダメ。先にもう一度、エネルギ一炉を止めなきゃ!」 [Lolo: ...No. We have to shut down the reactors again, first!]
ポプカ 「ほっとによ、こんな国!」 [Popka: We better leave this country!]
ロロ 「クロノアさん。」 [Lolo: Klonoa-san.]
クロノア 「そうしよう!」 [Klonoa: Let's do it!]
also bonus things i noticed whilst skimming this let's play:
lolo calls leorina by only her name in this same cutscene. however, in the "leave it to me!" cutscene, during which leorina recognises her wrongdoings, lolo refers to her as "leorina-san".
lolo is often fairly polite. lots of "desu" and stuff. lolo also consistently refers to klonoa as "klonoa-san" throughout the game. her referring to klonoa with that honourific persists even when she's stuttering and sobbing into his shoulder, 「私っ、私っ、クロノアさん…!」 .
klonoa, leorina, and the mother goddess claire are the only characters referred to with honourifics, i think! other than characters whose names are their titles, like whatever "high priestess" and "king of sorrow" are in japanese.
if we exclude all talking about goddess claire, i think lolo is the only character who refers to others with honourifcs! which feels a bit weird when the other characters are just calling others by their names, but it highlights lolo's politeness when talking to those who aren't actively antagonising her. as mentioned above, lolo refers to klonoa as "klonoa-san", and after leorina's turn-around, lolo refers to her as "leorina-san".
leorina speaks pretty masculinely! as i guessed from her vibes she's not a bokukko (she refers to herself with "watashi", which fits) but she ends her sentences with masculine endings such as "da", "kai", "yo", and "sa". from what i've seen she uses "da" most often, however. i'm not sure of any masculine phrasing in the rest of her dialogue because i didn't really look
i'm not sure about popka's niceness, politeness, or pushiness by the standards of japanese culture, but english popka's dialogue seems to have way more overt insults than japanese popka. japanese popka seems to be just pushy whilst english popka is offensive. i didn't look st the "thank you, popka" cutscene yet so i dunno how mean popka is there

GunLeo Fankids Headcanon:
Guntz and Leorina are parents of 8 kids! 4 Sons and 4 daughters! 8 Half-wolf and half-Lunatean offsprings made into the world by the Golden Killer Guntz and the Sky Pirate Leorina, a very hot & heavy, romantic, passionate, unstoppable and dangerous interspecies couple! (Plz let them meet in CANON Namco!)
GunLeo 8 in order:
1) Maxz, the first son, first born and eldest of GunLeo 8. His name is obviously like Max only with a Z added to the end, and from the Latin origin meaning "The Greatest". He has the appearance of a wolf except his fur is red with golden underfur markings. Red hair. His eyes are heterochromia, his right eye is dark blue (like his mother's eyes) and his left eye is light blue (like his father's). However, his light brown arms, leg calves, stomach and chest are furless. Light brown skin under his fur. He also has no tail. And he inherited Leo's rhombus/diamond-shaped mole birthmark on the bridge of his nose. Maxz's birthdate is October 31, (Halloween) 2018.
2) Kya, the first daughter, second born and second eldest. Her name is from the Swahili origin meaning "Sky Diamond/ Diamond From the Sky". She has the appearance of a light brown-skinned Lunatean except she has black/golden ears, canine paw pads underneath her feet, and a black tail of a wolf. Her hair is black. Like her only big bro, she also has heterochromia eyes except the other way around, right eye is light blue and left eye is dark blue. And rhombus/diamond birthmark mole on bridge of nose. Kya's birthdate is April 6, 2021.
3) Blitz, the second son and third born. His name is of German origin that means "Lightning/Flash". His appearance is of a light brown-skinned Lunatean with wolf black/gold ears and wolf black tail. His hair is black. His upper furry ears, tail and hair are in the shade of licorice black (#1a1110). He has dark green eyes, which he inherited from his late paternal grandfather Butz (my HC is that Butz's eyes were green). And rhombus/diamond birthmark mole on bridge of nose. Blitz's birthdate is May 1, 2024.
4) Lexee, the second daughter and fourth born. Her name is a variant of short nicknames Lexy, Lexi and Lexie, which are from the name Alexandra (female variant of Alexander), which is of Greek origin, and means "Man's Defender/Defender of the People". Her name is not short for Alexandra though, Guntz and Leorina just named her Lexee. Her appearance is of a brink pink/brownish golden wolf with furless arms and leg calves. Her brink pink hair matches her main fur of course. Her hair and upper fur color brink pink (#fb607f) is a soft red color. Light brown skin under her fur. No tail. Her eyes are in the color of phlox or psychedelic purple (#df00ff), which were inherited from her late maternal grandmother, whom I headcanon named Kimana. And of course, the rhombus/diamond birthmark mole on bridge of nose. Lexee's birthdate is June 19, 2025.
5) Paz, the third son and fifth born. His name in Spanish and Portuguese translates to "Peace", while in Hebrew, it means "Gold" or "Fine Gold". His appearance is of golden/brown wolf with furless arms, leg calves, stomach and chest area. Hair is gold. He also has canine paw pads underneath his feet. Light brown skin under his fur. He has dark blue eyes. And as usual, the rhombus/diamond mole on bridge of nose. Paz's birthdate is January 28, 2027.
6) Nyota, the third daughter and sixth born. Her name in Swahili means "Star". She has an appearance of a light brown-skinned Lunatean with hair, wolf ears and wolf tail that are all actually strawberry blonde, which is a color that she inherited from her late paternal grandmother whom I HC'd that Estrella was her name, which also means "Star" only in Spanish, and was a strawberry blonde-colored wolf with the exact light blue eyes as her son Guntz. Nyota even has light blue eyes. And she obviously has her rhombus/diamond mole on bridge of nose. Nyota's birthdate is July 7, (Tanabata day in Japan) 2029.
& Finally 7) & 8): Fraternal twins: Ignatz and Iris. Ignatz is the fourth son, seventh born and second youngest, and Iris is the fourth daughter, eighth/last born and the youngest of all of GunLeo's 8 children. The gap between I&I (family's and friends's nickname for the twins when they're together) after birth is 20 minutes. Ignatz's name means "Fiery One" in German and Iris' is "Rainbow" in Greek. Ignatz's appearance is a light brown-skinned Lunatean with wolf ears and tail while Iris' is a wolf with her arms and leg calves being furless, and light brown skin under her fur. Iris also has no tail. Just like their 6 older siblings, I&I inherited Leo's rhombus aka diamond-shaped mole birthmark on bridges of their noses. The color of I&I's fur is brown, which is like the color mixed combination of Guntz's black & golden fur and Leorina's red hair; however, it could also be an inherited trait from their late maternal grandfather whom I HC for his name to be Zeke (short for Ezekiel) who's hair was dark brown, and that his daughter Leorina actually got not only her dark blue eyes, but also her diamond mole on nose from him. Therefore, I&I's wolf ears are brown and gold. Ignatz's wolf tail is brown. Iris has brown/golden fur. The twins have matching brown hair too. He and she also have canine paw pads underneath their feet. And I&I happen to have hazel eyes, and that those eyes were actually inherited from their late great-grandmother who was the paternal grandmother to Leorina. Ignatz's and Iris' birthdate is August 14, 2032.

What if Leorina were to keep a photo of Guntz smiling, and everytime she stares into it, she blushes? It's possible that she's never been in love before.....

i have numerous questions:
is "leo" (「リオ」 ["rio"]) a given name, or a chosen name? is it now a deadname, or a meh name, or a nickname? did leorina (「レオリナ」 ["reorina"]) always have a masculine name before, or was it something she took on herself?
what gender was leorina when she was being referred to as "leo"? what (english) pronouns and nouns did leorina use when she was being referred to as "leo"? is she transgender, simply genderqueer, simply non-binary, or any combination of the three?
is the high priestess continuing referring to leorina as "leo" something done out of habit, or is it on purpose? i'm not going to assume it's done out of malicious intent either way
from the worldbuilding, we can probably guess a likely interpretation.
in the kingdom of la-lakoosha, nearly everyone worships the mother goddess, claire. priestesshood is a thing, and a thing that's probably a very popular occupation, hyped up as this great, heroic thing to do—like doctors or firefighters.
now, despite priestesshood being, well, priestesshood, and pretty much all the priestess characters portrayed are pretty feminine-seeming, having high-pitched laughs and long ponytails…
popka is also there, and we can guess that he's been paying attention in class. lolo and leorina aren't the only ones who can do anything wind ring-related—popka can provide a very high assist jump, and he somehow managed to smuggle a hoverboard twice his size into the hammerspace inside the wind ring without anyone noticing… despite lolo also occupying said hammerspace.
but who knows how that hammerspace works? that's another mystery. but i digress: the point is, popka can do magic stuff, magic stuff that's pretty much said that "only priestesses can do that!"
now, we don't know if popka actually counts as a "priestess". he's just there to support lolo, both backstory-wise and character role-wise. but his abilities show that he has been studying how to be a "priestess" alongside lolo, and if he's allowed to study the magic stuff that "only priestesses" can do, well. he's pretty much it, despite being a guy.
so… it's possible for leorina to have had any gender cocktail whilst training to become a "priestess". and remember, sex ≠ gender ≠ gender expression ≠ name ≠ pronouns.
i can't find a good place to put them, but here are some bonus fun facts:
"leo" uses watashi, same as leorina.
the high priestess refers to leorina as "leo", whilst still referring to her with she/her pronouns.
in conclusion: ?????????
i'm wondering so bad what the hell leorina's name change is supposed to mean

Do you know what I'm thinking? What if in upcoming Klonoa games, Leorina the Sky Pirate were to sometimes be mistaken as a boy? Her real name Leo is often used for males and seldom for females after all. However, when she's not wearing her pirate attire that is possibly oversized, and is either in casual clothing or bikini swinwear along with her long crimson red hair being down, it will be revealed that Leorina happens to have quite a very womanly body...especially with the possibility of being naturally blessed with such a very well-endowed chest that could make other female characters be envious of. Hell, this could be like the case of Nisekoi character, Seishirou Tsugumi. Well what do you Klonoa fans think about this idea for Bandai Namco to do for the character Leorina the Sky Pirate?
