I noticed that in the Semi-Dark Dark ending, once you beat the final boss Shadow says "Game Over, Sonic" and you can tell he was waiting to shoot those words back at Sonic face ever since Adventure 2, though I feel it would have been more fitting if it was for the Pure-Hero Dark Ending since that's focused on their rivalry more. (Though I guess it fits since when Sonic said it to him, he was about wreck his plans and his reason for existence at this point, so now that Shadow is about wreck his life and his planet it fits too since that's how t felt from his perspective).

In Japanese, Shadow says in the Semi Dark-Dark ending "Sonic, I'm done playing" (「ソニック、もう遊びを終わりだ」, while in the Pure Hero-Dark ending he says something like "there was a match, Sonic the Hedgehog" (「勝負あったな、ソニック・ザ・ヘッジホッグ」), I think with the implication that Shadow found the fight satisfying.

They make more sense like this, Shadow sounds more serious in the former, because it's not about a friendly spar anymore, he's deadly serious about his newfound purpose as Black Doom's soldier.

In English, "Game over, Sonic" would have fit the Hero ending better, if only because Sonic kept being meta in Final Haunt ("Well, Shadow, it looks like we've reached the climax of this little game. Time to make the big boss man responsible for this invasion step up and play.") so it would have been a nice circle :P
