throwing claudia into the noble bloodline might have been not the wisest decision, but máire sincerely had good intentions in mind.
ex. 1: her sixteen year old has anemia and she lived in conditions that could potentially worsen her health the longer she was exposed to it. she could milk lord phantomhive for currency, but she knows for a damn fact that it wouldn’t have been a longterm deal. but, officially being part of the phantomhive clan means prime health insurance compared to that of commoners / low class civilians.
ex. 2: coming from Ireland’s Great Famine, Mother Ó Faoláin was stricken with an incurable anxiety. her mama brain was like I Must Keep My Baby Fed And I Can’t Keep It Up What If This Shit Happens To Us Again. Claudia Needs Her Iron. We Can’t Take Another Hit Like That. That Scared The Hell Out Of Me.
and Claudia actually understands that now as a mother. while one part of her mind is yearning to take cedric and the kids to run off into the unknown, the more worried maternal instinct is saying, “no. I can provide for my kids sufficently like this. I went through an immense famine in my youth and I do *not* want to expose my children to it, especially since it would affect me too. if something happens to me here, I KNOW they’ll be okay.”, along with worries of surfacing medical conditions down the road that are later confirmed with ciel’s asthma.
the great famine of ireland really shook those two up. a Lotta Bad happened during that time.
anyways if u read this thanks for coming to my Ó Faoláin ted talk.

❝ Guilless child, your spirit will hate her ; the flower who married my lover, the cheater ---- and you will expose his puppeteer behavior ; for you are the proof OF HOW HE BETRAYED HER LOYALTY. ❞
Name: Máire ( maw-rah ) Ó Faoláin. Gender: Female. Age: Dependent, but general where Claudia is 36, she is 52. Species: Human Witch. Mortal. Coven: Ó Faoláin. Religion: Celtic Paganist. Unwavering devotee to the Morrígan and the Goddess Brighid. Morality: Chaotic Neutral / Evil. Location: Donegal, Ireland [ 1816 - 1845 ]. Uncharted Woodland, Winchester England. [1845 - ????]. Inspo music: Mordred’s Lullaby. Grounds for Divorce. Un, Dos, Tres, Maria. Love Doesn’t Stand A Chance. The Plagues. Vanessa’s Song [shared with Claudia. teamwork].
outward personality: jaunty and warm, sultry and helpful. melodious. inner personality: deceiving. dangerous. vengeful. doting for familial relations. devoted. protective. as a mother: what sped the moving process from Donegal to Winchester was the fact the Great Famine of Ireland had struck hard, and Máire was not going to expose her daughter to it any longer than she could help. She sacrificed eating to make sure Claudia stayed fed. It was a demanding, throttling hold on Lord Phantomhive that bid their journey’s progress to a better home at a swift pace.
Máire loves Claudia entirely and utterly, and her intentions, while definitely harmful to everyone else, are from a place of .. goodness. Had she known what vast tragedy would unfold down the line as severe spiritual & manufactured fate reprecussions for these actions, she would have never let Claudia inherit the Phantomhive crown. Now, she lives a grave punishment of having it all come burning up in flames and leading to her outliving her own daughter -- and perhaps her own great grandchildren as well.
What befell the Phantomhives is a nightmare for any loving matriarch, and if you did follow the veins of it all, you could certainly hold Máire partially responsible for what later unfolded. But who knows, really! Who says this magical revenge mumbo-jumbo has any real sway for what happened, anyways? However, there’s no reason discount it, either.
Buuuut back on topic .. Máire taught Claudia everything she knows. Everything. To medicines, to poisons, to witchcraft and druidism. Worship, and Claudia was all an eager student to it.
The resemblence between this mother and child can be quite haunting, to visuals, to vocals and even to habits, and matters don’t lighten up given the fact that Máire‘s twin also lives in the same household. Just the three of them. Who are you seeing, who are you speaking with? Curious information drifts when people mistake these three for one another, and they use this tactic well alongside glamouring to shade over freckles Claudia lacks. Only a sharp, familiar trained eye can tell the difference.
appearance: long, silky black hair that reaches the bottoms of her knees with side-swept bangs tucked behind the ear. sharp, serpentine narrow and long-lashed deep blue eyes. a mole beneath her right eye that passed to vincent. pale skin with freckles peppered mainly over the bridge of her nose and on her cheeks and on her shoulders, knees, back and hips. pointy upturned nose. dimples. no lipstick, natural pale lips with a touch of pink. stands 5′7′’ with an average, curvy bod that was once very thin due to the Great Famine of Ireland. ample bust ( DD cup ). wide hips and long feet. sharp long nails.
for clothing: white pillowy, slouching gigoty sleeves cupped by a tight black & maroon corset riddled with subtle floral patterns, lending down into a long white skirt that layers to a point that stops just above the ground, slit high on both sides to show off her black, thigh high lacey boots. an intricate and elaborate black choker with hanging loops of lace and silver that lead up to the big raven motif in the very middle of its front ; her dedication to the Morrígan. around her waist is a belt with several pouches stuffed with herbs, medicines and stones.
were she in modern day, she would be rocking big black sunglasses.
Máire, a raven-haired Irish beauty that was born and raised in Donegal, Ireland into a big family coven. She is the mother of Claudia, twin sister to Róisín (row-sheen) and spurned, vengeful and prior (secret) lover to Lord Phantomhive.
As a profession, she’s always served as a medicine woman - the local doctor, if you will. anyone gets hurt, anyone gets sick, they’ve always come to Máire. This includes a Lord Phantomhive that’d passed through the breathtaking oceanside town, who fell ill while on his travels involving dealings with folk in the longer part of the Island. This was how the two met and, to Máire’s later surprise, began their illicit affair that eventually bore Claudia.
Now Máire treasures her baby girl above all else alongside her own twin, but finding out that her child was born a bastard to a now discovered married man that’d promised her a future and failed to make good on his word made her positively, and understandably, irate.
After the discovery, an onset of curses empowered by The Morrígan tore apart the Phantomhive family. Family members fell to various illnesses that they could not recover from, infertility had taken a strong grasp on the women --- and withered the sex of the men to painful husks. Justine Phantomhive, bride to Lord Phantomhive, even experienced compromises of her own with the stocks and shares of family business burning to the ground after she’d lashed out at the discovery of Claudia. There were no other Phantomhive heirs born, it was impossible. There was only Claudia, and an enriched, secure life with no fear of poverty and starvation once promised to Máire now passed to her daughter.
Unfortunately, Justine’s family struck for revenge themselves when suspicions came whispering in. Revenge is something Máire was more than prepared for, but she had not guessed that they were completely willing to dance and deal with the Devil to exact it.
