          when  steph  said  she  was  working  with  shield  ,  cass  needed  to  see  it  with  her  own  two  eyes  to  believe  it  .  eyes  wander  around  the  training  facility  .  there’s  a  hint  of  a  nod  ,  almost  in  approval  at  the  facilities  .  of  course  ,  nothing  beats  the  batcave  .  but  this  comes  as  a  close  second  .  “  so  …  what  do  you  even  do  here  ?  ”

          another  person’s  arm  is  slung  across  her  shoulder  as  she  helps  them  to  the  medical  wing  .  cassandra  couldn’t  just  leave  the  person  .  not  after  witnessing  the  tumble  the  other  took  and  rolled  on  their  wrist  while  sparring her  .  an  easily  avoidable  mistake  but  she  says  nothing  .  “  pretty  sure  it’s  a  sprained  wrist based on the way they fell  .  ” she informs the older woman  .  “ but  i’m  no  doctor  .  ”

“Well, that doesn’t look good at all,” she commented, looking up when the other walked into the medical wing. “What happened?”

          she’s  usually  more  alert  .  having  her  foot  stepped  on  would’ve  been  easily  avoided  but  with  a  crowd  this  large  and  unfamiliar  territory  ,  cassandra  finds  herself  scoping  out  the  space  .  eyes  narrow  out  of  habit  before  her  gaze  softens  .  “  it’s  …  fine  .  ”  musters  up  a  small  smile  .  “  never  thought  i’d  hear  that  captain  america  is  clumsy  .  ”

"Sorry -- sorry!" Steve winced as he stepped on yet another foot. "I never was good at navigating these things. Too many people." Breaking an enemy line was one thing, a fancy wedding completely stymied him.

          “  i  know  i  said  superman  but  i  raise  you  wonder  woman  .  i  think  she  is  the  standard  .  ”  a  woman  that  can  not  only  kick  ass  but  comes  from  a  lineage  of  warrior  women  ?  now  that  is  something  cassandra  can  get  behind  .  “  i’m  only  returning  the  energy  you  give  me  ,  dick  .  ”  smiles  cheekily  .  “  i’m  inclined  to  say  batman  but  he’s  got  a  little  bit  of  an  ego  ,  y’know  ?  especially  if  he  finds  out  we  said  superman  and  then  changed  our  minds  .  ”

“superman should be out of the question,” dick declares rather firmly, the hint of playfulness still visible in his grin. “he’s like, the standard.” there’s a long line of superheroes that he respects and admires, but it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to to say the man of steel sits on the top of the list. “now come on, don’t be dramatic,” he teases, fully aware that he was the one who started being dramatic first. “we could always repair our friendship by settling with batman as the final conclusion. bet he’d be pleased too.” he doubts the caped crusader would even bat an eye to this debate, but dick likes to think he knows the man well enough sometimes. “two birds one stone.”

          she  stands  with  a  cup  of  coffee  in  hand  ,  waiting  for  the  blonde  to  finish  speaking  .  listen  ,  cass  is  not  much  of  a  talker  .  only  ever  feels  comfortable  talking  to  the  members  of  the  bat  family  .  and  she  doesn’t  take  offense  to  bobbi’s  slightly  harsh  words  .  she's  heard  worse  .  “  lucky  for  you  ,  ”  cass  turns  the  cup  to  reveal  ‘  bobbi  ’  scribbled  to  the  side  .  she  sets  it  down  for  the  blonde  .  “  the  barista  handed  it  to  me  .  a  little  offended  they  thought  we  had  the  same  coffee  order  .  either  that  or  they  didn’t  realized  .  do  i  look  like  a  bobbi  ?  ”

“ look  whatever   it   is   …   i   really   don’t   care.   no   offense. ”       lack   of   sleep   mixes   like   acid   with   social   interaction.   most   days ,   she   can   keep   it   together.   or   so   little   voice   in   her   head   claims.   not   that   anyone ,   at   any   point   in   her   life   (  read :   career  ) ,   has   accepted   her   bullshit.      “  unless   the   next   words   out   of   your   mouth   are   ‘aw   but   bobbi,   i   brought   you   coffee’    —    can   it   wait ?  ”      okay.   it’s   harsh.   a   touch   too   much.   she’s   starting   to   sound   like   her   mother.      “  at   least   until   i   get   some  caffeine ,   please.  ”

          “  if  it’s  not  superman  ,  i  will  be  very  disappointed  .  ”  cassandra  comments  with  a  deadpan  expression  .  the  bat  moves  to  plop  down  next  to  her  adoptive  brother  ,  wiping  a  bead  of  sweat  that  trickles  down  the  side  of  her  temple  .  “  you’re  kinda  stuck  with  me  now  but  sure  ,  let’s  go  with  that  .  an  end  of  a  friendship  .  ”

“i can’t believe you chose me out of all people to have a debate on who’s the greatest superhero,” dick starts to grin, the incredulous hint in his voice nothing but painfully obvious. “i’m gonna be biased with my answer, you know it. is that the end of our friendship that we’re approaching right now?”
