REID PRAYS TO HIS MOTHER, HINENUITEPŌ
REID could feel his optimism stifled by their current circumstances. he had never been one to think so poorly about things but he just needed a moment to recalibrate and it wasn't enough to take the day to reset. he knew he needed more and he would lean on the greatest source of power that was accessible to him.
the son of hinenuitepō returned to the rock formation that he used as a gateway to RAROHENGA when he had first been called there to help his mother with clearing away a disturbance. he waited for a new moon, a moment when the sky was at its darkest and he brought himself salt of the Pacific, candles made of wax from indigenous trees of New Zealand, and an offering bowl filled with fruit.
he started with the candles in a circle around the offering bowl, pouring the salt around him to sanctify the area and then he began.
" hinenuitepō, godess of the night and the underworld, it's your son calling for you. asking for guidance in this moment and strength, our enemies seem to be miles ahead of us and we are still figuring out who we are as a collective. as your son, i know of your strength and wish to draw from it to help destroy our foes, if need be. we all return back to you and i wish to help that process, allow the earth to be in balance with itself and allow those seeking release to move over. "
now, all he could do is open himself up to his mother, if she would answer the call.

REID PRAYS TO HIS MOTHER, HINENUITEPŌ [ #03 ]
this feels dangerously natural to him at this point ; the warmth of the summer air, the sea salt ring and kukui candles and the summoning of spirits to his area to strengthen the connection between his location and rarohenga. he begins by speaking the following in te reo māori " whaea hinenuitepō, atua o te po, kaitiaki o rarohenga. whakarongo mai ki taku karanga. " he repeats it three times as it is a number of completeness in polynesian thought.
" mother, there is concern in other pantheons of half gods not returning to their place of rest. a shinto warrior, asuka, has no way as her soul vanished when she was murdered. please, allow me to know and to understand what needs to be done to right this wrong. i am a warrior to rarohenga and will protect the natural order as it should be done. " he then casts DEATH'S EMBRACE as a bubble around him in preparation, just in case.

REID PRAYS TO HIS MOTHER, HINENUITEPŌ [ #02 ]
SPIRITS MANIFEST. COME TO MY AID, GRANT MY GUIDANCE, GRANT ME POWER. it was a mantra that reid had repeated to himself as he decided to attempt another prayer to his mother again. it was concerning that he hadn't or could not hear her. with the egg being incubated, a questionable relationship with a city of dragons and the threat of invasion — reid was after amassing power so that he could stand on his own as well as with his allies to defend what was most sacred.
it had only been a month that they had been at the ark but it felt important. a mixture of cultures, a blend of polytheism that honored the world and its cultures. they could be the beacon, the guiding light in this storm forward. reid truly believed that and he wanted to help.
the world was so much bigger than him and he knew that, the optimism that rang true in everyone's next steps were stalled at the pressure they faced but he would return soon ; he was destined and committed.
so another alter, kukui candles and sea salt from the pacific in a ring as he stood center with arms open and facing the dirt beneath his feet as he stood there barefoot to commune.
" hinenuitepō, mother of the underworld and guardian of rarohenga. please answer my prayer, i offer you the fruits of aotearoa and gifts for your favor and to honor you and your name. i wish to be your champion in this time and we are at a precipice of a fight. lend me your power of the underworld and i shall defend and do as you need in the mortal realm. "
and with that ; he awaited a sign.
