โœ˜ what are your thoughts on husk and angel's relationship?
โ€œI donโ€™t like it.โ€
No, he knew he wasnโ€™t getting away that easily. There wasnโ€™t a tangible way to describe what he felt, but words came anyway.
โ€œItโ€™s somewhere between jealousy and contempt.โ€
โ€ฆ โ€œBut heโ€™s happy, and I have to pretend thatโ€™s enough. Maybe itโ€™s the shock, and that will wear away. Maybe I am happy for him.โ€
โ€œI donโ€™t know. I have hope, for all three of us. That has to count for something.โ€

Heโ€™s changed.
Since getting close to the spider, heโ€™s changed. In that way that I thought I could bring him back to.
Half the point of this contract was to try and bring that light back into his eyes. Instead I snuffed the rest of it out.
Iโ€™m not jealous. Why would I be? He hasnโ€™t thought of me as a friend since I died. I havenโ€™t been able to recognize him since he died.
Iโ€™mโ€ฆ glad someone could do it, I suppose.
Iโ€™m just surprised it was someone like Angel Dust.

It was so odd, waking up in a place clearly meant for him but otherwise unrecognizable.
It wasnโ€™t particularly anxiety inducing. This was why he didnโ€™t often sleep, after all. If he had moved himself around, so be it. It was clearly something he had made anyway. Not a lot of people, even friends, knew the intricacies of the swamp that well.
It all made perfect sense once he caught a glimpse of the bar.
Husker wasnโ€™t exactly dressed to the nines, but it was still early. Perhaps he was up for an odd reason and would go right back to sleep in a bit. Topping himself off for the morning, maybe.
โ€œOh, so this must be the new venture you mentioned?โ€
He sat down on one of the stools, taking a look around the space. When the King of Hearts had mentioned adding a hotel to the casino, this was not was Alastor had pictured. Husk had a liking for the finer things, with an over abundance of gold in his furnishings. A little over the top, maybe, but classy in a Vegas way.
โ€œThe decor isnโ€™t exactly your style, but I suppose thatโ€™s what under construction means, hmm?โ€

people dont respect you, they fear you. what you've done to husk for example? is it respectable to take out anger you have for someone else on him? does that somehow fall under your moral code you just described or is that different just because he bet it with you? he trusted you. you betrayed him and now he's owned by you, but thats just fine? you left even rosie with zero explanation and she just has to be okay with that? you hold a giant misunderstanding over vox's head, each people who would do anything for you. is that respectable? you hurt them but you don't care.
โ€œHave the three of them come to address you specifically?โ€
His tone agitated, the pace of his words quickening.
โ€œNot every interactionโ€”conversationโ€”will go swimmingly. Two of your examples are entirely meaningless, I have never put hands on Vox or Rosie.โ€
โ€ฆ โ€œAs for Huskerโ€ฆ my reasons for what happened were not because of someone else. He made a choice. Ask him if he planned to cheat me, because I can assure you that he did.โ€

Husk doesnโ€™t hate you. Oskar doesnโ€™t hate you, either, if you insist on separating them. By some miracle, he couldnโ€™t bring himself to hate you. Do you ever think about what you could have been? Nights spent drinking together in seedy motels; days spent watching him at his prime on the stage? He does, Iโ€™ll guarantee you that.
โ€œNo use thinking about what could have been.โ€
Alastor didnโ€™t believe in that. No, he wouldnโ€™t let the thoughts take up space. What was the point? What was the point of regret when the reality was what it was?
Did he even regret it?
His instinct was to say no. Watching someone he considered a friend flounder and fall apart in the cold light of day, all while playing up a perfect life at nightโ€ฆ No, Alastor preferred someone real at all hours of the day.
Was that due to a bad experience? Maybe. But it was better to be careful than to be burned. Better to keep control than to feel the stitches tear again.
โ€œSometimes, itโ€™s just how the world goes.โ€

he came to you desperate and afraid. he hoped you might save his pride. he hoped you might grant him a single mercy. instead you made him beg like a dog, and kicked him away like one. a lifetime of love and respect, and you betray him, for what? if he came to you now would you kick him again? or do you look at him with the clarity of a few decadesโ€™ time and regret?
โ€œThese are some passionate statements. You sound like you were either in his head or mine at the time.โ€
Dancing around the questions with a mocking tone. Whoever this was had opinions that they hadnโ€™t earned.
Alastor had learned to mostly separate the two in his mind. Oskar was not Husk and Husk was not Oskar. He missed Oskar. That was a given. But after a lifetime on Earthโ€ฆ a man changed. Alastor did not.
โ€œI can assure you that you donโ€™t want or need to know the details. Husker and I are what we are. That isnโ€™t changing any time soon.โ€
Besides, Husk hated him.
He was sure of that.

do you know how ardently you were loved, once? how adored you were? he trusted you, and you tethered him to your side because one bad apple spoiled the bunch. he asked you for help, and you betrayed him.
โ€œYou donโ€™t know what youโ€™re talking about.โ€
There was a time when maybe what he was being accused of was true. In life, Oskar had been a good friend, and genuine person. But in deathโ€ฆ he let his vices control him. The King of Hearts was a drunk, and a gambler, and a mess. He had come to Alastor because he had run out of options. He came to him because his own shady deals were fraying at the seams.
What Husk wanted was more power.
Why else would he have agreed to a bet in the first place? He would have taken from Alastor just as easily had things been reversed.
Alastor just had been more cunning than him.
โ€œHe knew what he was getting into. He just lost.โ€

Alastor didnโ€™t own pets. The Hotel had a cat around, did they mean that? Oh.
Oh.
โ€œYou mean Husker? Of course. Itโ€™s called our contract.โ€

โœฎ- And a name to hear their real feelings for them.
โ€œComplicated.โ€
While this exercise required full honesty, that was in fact the simplest way or saying it.
โ€œHe was a good friend. Was someone I trusted with my own life. But now? I canโ€™t trust him to do anything but hate me. I certainly canโ€™t trust him off a leash.โ€

Oskar has a crush on you!
"He does?"
That was... interesting. Not altogether unwelcome, but new. The two of them led busy lives, but always tried their best to stay connected. It may have changed the context of some things, but not in a bad way.
"I'll have to talk to him soon, then."
