Affiliation: Gang member (the Cortázar Cartel). Job position: Bouncer at the Cancún, drug trafficker and dealer for the Cortázar Cartel, wannabe wildlife rehabilitator (watch the magic happen when he finds an abandoned animal). Education: Completed schooling up until the age of 15, acquired a GED at age 20. Relationship status: Single, divorced. Children: Two children with two different women (Isabella, five, with Kamilah Marques, second and eldest child TBD). Positive traits: Compassionate (mainly to animals), efficient, firm, loyal, stoic. Negative traits: Calculating, critical, impatient, mechanical, sordid.

— BIOGRAPHY (CONTENT WARNING: mentions of drugs (trafficking and dealing), attempted murder, actual murder)

Born in Michoacán, Mexico in 1984, Gabriel had a troubled but ultimately loving family.  While divorce affected his family, it ultimately gave him his half-brother and entirely new family members to love.  Life wasn’t perfect, they struggled greatly with poverty and moving to a new home was routine, but he learned to take it all in stride.  With community came unyielding loyalty for those who earned his trust and affections.

At the age of 18, he moved from Michoacán, Mexico to New York, New York.  Initially, he had the plan to finish the rest of his schooling and pursue a degree in veterinary medicine.  Unfortunately, he fell into the wrong crowd early on in 2003.  This crowd is best known as the Cortázar Cartel.  It started as casual, or as casual as it could be, pushing drugs and dealing to customers to help make ends meet.  Around this time, he met a woman who he would quickly fall in love with.

For the next ten years, life was what one would expect it to be when involved in the Cortázars.  He got married and had a child, yet his loyalty didn’t remain strictly to them.  He balanced being a family man and a prominent drug trafficker / dealer as best as he could, despite the chaos that came with such a lifestyle that the latter presented.  But, it was fool’s hope to expect that he could ever find such a balance.  Divorce came in late 2013 / early 2014.

It gets worse before it gets better, as they say, and Gabriel is no stranger to that cruel fact of life.  For awhile, he was homeless, so he threw himself deep into his duties for the Cortázar Cartel.  His cut from trafficking and pushing went primarily to his ex-wife and child before it ever went to himself, wanting to ensure that they were cared for.  Living on the streets, though, just isn’t for the faint of heart.  On a warm summer’s night in 2015 came a robbery gone rogue because it’s easy to kick a man while he’s already down.  A fight for the few material possessions he had left resulted in a stabbing, a near-fatal puncture in his chest that he wears the scar from to this day.  He sought help but he did not seek law enforcement because he knew, knows, that there was nothing they could do for a man like him.

In 2016, he took matters into his own hand, finding the person responsible for his near death.  In an act of revenge, a way to establish that he was not to be fucked with, he claimed a man’s life.  Eye for an eye.  The blood on his hands wasn’t unfamiliar, yet it was so fucking different than the violence he was used to.  To this day, he doesn’t discuss it.

Late 2010s brought him his second child.  It could only get better from here, right? It did.  He got a job as a bouncer at the Cancún in 2018, eventually finding the stability needed to get his own apartment and care for his children outside of financial means.

Now, in 2023, he’s hardworking and diligent for the Cortázars, keeping shit straight at the Cancún with his no bullshit policy and ensuring that the drug money flows in as expected.  He’s a familiar face in riots if you happen to pay attention, but he otherwise frequents your local animal shelters and exotic pet stores, often with his two children.  Because ya just can’t take the nature / animal lover out of a vicious fighter and drug pusher.

— WANTED CONNECTIONS / PLOTS

Customers: This is just a given.  If your muse did or still actively does drugs to any capacity, chances are Gabe dealt to them or still does.  This could be a casual one-off sorta deal, or your muse is a regular customer for him. Ex-wife: This is the mother of his first child and a woman he met around the time he first came to New York City at the age of 18.  They were together for about 10 years or so, had a child and got married in this time, and eventually fell apart; resulting in divorce.  Reasons for their divorce and other deets of their relationship can be discussed. (0/1) Baby mamas: Ages, genders, and other details for the kids can be worked out.  Again, the mother to his first child is his ex-wife, however the second child came after their divorce.  This could have been from another committed relationship, a random one night stand, etc.  He is actively involved in his children’s lives either way.  No deadbeat vibes here. (1/2) Roommate: New York City is expensive, he wants a nice apartment, but doesn’t quite have nice apartment money after all the other expenses come out.  This led to the need for a roommate.  This is ideally someone who is either a civilian or Cortázar affiliated to prevent any ugly situations but I’m open to all possibilities! Must be okay with his kids and exotic pets (not really, but it'd sure help). (0/1) Half-brother: Su hermano, partner in crime (figuratively or literally), etc etc.  His brother can be older or younger than him, and involvement with the Cortázars is up to you.  While they only share one parent, they’re quite close.  Keep in mind the FC used for this connection should be of Mexican/Indigenous descent.  Because there aren’t many actors of Purépecha descent, a half-brother plot works best. (0/1) Adversaries: [Barney voice] He’s wronged you, you wronged him, we’re a (un)happy faaaaaamily.  Deets can be worked out as we plot.  Given the nature of the beast, he’s likely brushed up against many people the wrong way because of his involvement with the Cortázars.  As a general rule, he’s apprehensive and inherently dislikes other gangs until given a reason otherwise. Cortázar connects: This is, for all intents and purposes, his found family.  He tries very hard to not step on toes with his affiliates and has a profound respect for many of the members.  This doesn’t mean it’s sunshine and rainbows, it never is or will be in a gang, but he’s proved his devotion to the Cortázar Cartel many times and that he would die for the cause if it comes down to it. Person who patched him up: Immediately after his attack, Gabe sought medical help, though it's unlikely he went to the emergency room for this. Most likely he went to a medic or similarly savvy person, either in the Cortázar Cartel or otherwise, that he could trust to essentially save his life. An interesting idea would be a medical-savvy member from a rival gang helping him instead of leaving him for dead. (0/1) People who let him crash at their place: What it says on the tin. He was homeless for about three years, so he would've couch-hopped pretty frequently and stayed with whoever would let him for short bursts.
