“same thing as running away, essentially. have you tried stabbing things? it’s very therapeutic.” easy for her to say. she could just summon skeletons and train against them or the training dummies. it wasn’t good advice and she knew that but it was her way of avoiding. just like her one handed comments. worked great on the dead, not so much the living. she wasn’t entirely sure but maybe they both could try just talking about it. “what are you trying to avoid?”

She doesn't realize that she's been looking down until she hears the note in Silena's voice. Clarisse doesn't flinch when she raises her head, even when the fire casts shadows and she can feel the labyrinth breathing down the back of her neck, like the earth itself is pulsing. Which is stupid, but whatever. This whole damn thing is stupid. Her hands tighten a little -- she doesn't stop being a warrior just because there's nothing to stick the sharp edge of her spear into.

❛ -- Yeah. ❜ Her voice is low; there's something about Silena -- maybe it's an Aphrodite thing, maybe it's just her -- that makes the war under Clarisse's skin dull a little. Some of the fire fades around the edges and she's mindful enough to lower her voice, as if it's normally so rough that it might shatter the quiet of the night. There is something instinctual in her that just -- doesn't want to hurt Silena.

They probably all have too much hurt coming already. Why add to it ?
