A lonely widower stages a fake audition for a movie role which is really to find him a new girl.

He falls for a seemingly lovely young woman called Asami who turns out to be the stuff of nightmares...

One of my favourite movies.

Amazing film. A real slow burn. Dreamy, creative and quite different to most Japanese horror ive watched. It starts like a romantic drama with no horror at all which subverts your expectations. Then dread builds for a while when you find out about Asami's backstory. Then the infamous foot scene which shocked me so much the first time i saw it. The whole things a trip. Audition or "Odishan" is extremely well filmed and well crafted. Amazing movie.

So the thing about the teasing and buildup is that there was supposed to be more of it. I wanted their weird sex game to just keep escalating to really absurd levels, and when I first started planning out the fic I had a scene in mind where they race each other from the ground up to the roof of Future Industries--Korra on her glider and Asami in one of her hummingbird mechas.

It was supposed to happen right after Korra meets Asami in her office and discovers that her Shoe Prank hasn't gone as planned, but it kept feeling like a bit of a reach, like it didn't exactly fit with the rest of the height difference nonsense. And I realized that the only reason I kept trying to force it in was so that I could also have a scene where they make out in the elevator and accidentally open the doors 5000 times because that's funny to MEE.

As soon as I figured out how to keep the elevator scene (by changing the tone of it and sticking it at the very end) I got rid of the race scene entirely, and I think the fic turned out much better because of it!! And who knows maybe the racing idea will find a home in a future fic👀

Honestly, I’ve been wanting to discuss the second chapter of Runaway Bride. It’s one of the most angsty chapters I’ve written in a while, and I’m very proud of how it turned out. The first chapter was angsty too, but this one legit made me tear up while I was writing it. It’s been a while since I’ve taken a deep dive into Asami’s emotions, and I should really do it more often. It’s hard to pick a specific section that I liked most, but if I had to I’d say the punching bag scene. That felt the most impactful to me, and I think it perfectly captured how Asami was feeling in that moment.

⭐️Who likes to look at stars?

Korra! She grew up in the Southern tribe so she had the chance to have amazing views of them since she was a child <333 Asami likes them too so they have stargazing dates sometimes.

✈️Do they travel over the summer?

Definitely! My personal headcanon is that Korra has a pretty long of places she wants to go to. She didn't leave the Southern pole for years and I'm sure Katara told her about her adventures with Team Avatar growing up, so she's the most excited each time they are picking their holiday destinations.

Each time they go to any place, they like to spend a long time there so they have time to explore it. They also avoid crowded places, just in case.

🎢Are they amusement park people? If so, what’s their favorite ride?

YES! Korra's favorite are definitely water coasters! Because they mix water and the exciting experience of a roller coaster! And Asami's faves are bumper cars!

They have absolutely slept with each other, and are super affectionate with each other. It's not uncommon for Ann to be in Asami's lap casually.

Asami is one of the two people who knows that she is a vampire. The only other person who knows is her personal assistant, Lydia. He found out by accident after walking in on her feeding on someone. He did not act abnormal, scream or faint so she decided to tell him.

Something about being around Asami makes her drop her guard, and not feel the excessive need to put on an act. She tends to causally curse.

Basically two mean girls. They can have a whole conversation just from exchanging glances.

For @middleofnowhere92, thanks for the ⭐️!! I'm so flattered. Since I get to choose, I'm actually NOT talking about Irosami for this. Not because I don't love it (obvs), but because believe it or not I've written a few other things and rarely get asked about them. So, for today's dissection: A League of Their Own (Tahno/Asami Sato)

A League of Their Own was written for the @avatar-rare-pair-ship-challenge, and so therefore had to feature a rare pair from the outset. In this story, Korra refuses to give Tahno his bending back, so he and Asami and his kid brother, Kenny, use Asami's new mecha to form the first non-bender pro-bending team.

The origin of this story actually dates to before I started writing fanfiction. My initial idea, and what eventually turned into my very first fic, AWOL, had nothing to do with Avatar at all. Rather, I was curious what would happen in a world where technology caught up to, or even outstripped, magic. That idea subsequently turned into Asami Sato continually evolving her mecha - she's an inventor, right? - and, throughout the series that followed I have her making it smaller, more powerful, and more diverse; the same as any modern technology. The consequences of this are a major driver for the series.

Enter, Tahno.

A League of Their Own opens with Tahno drinking by the train station. I spent more time thinking about what he'd be drinking than I did writing a lot of the story. I do not want to tell you how much time I spend matching LOK characters to their drink of choice: Mako - manhattan at a bar, whiskey at home; Asami - red wine; Bolin and Korra - beer; Iroh - doesn't drink, or drinks scotch and it goes badly; Bumi and Viper - bourbon; Lin Beifong and Tahno - gin, etc. These are canon now, btw, and no I won't be taking questions.

The rest of the fic focuses on Tahno and Asami's growing relationship - not as lovers, but as two people with nothing left trying to find meaning again. I did a lot of reading here about athletes with life-changing injuries, about how you can train for something your whole life and have it taken away in an instant. A lot of them suffer major mental health issues. I wanted that Tahno, and frankly that Asami, too, though slightly differently. At first, all they share is a desire to get back at Korra, and that's enough to drive them both.

“What about the Fire Ferrets? I thought Future Industries sponsored them?”

“F--k those guys,” Asami said blithely. “I run Future Industries now, and we have new priorities."

I admit I handwaved on the technology. Seriously, seriously handwaved. I said "electromagnetic currents" the way Lex from Jurassic Park talks about UNIX. I'm not an engineer. It's fiction.

Anyway, I liked that by the end I'd changed the dynamic from angsty revenge to what felt like pulling for a team. I loved giving Tahno a little bro, and having him have some big bro feelings about that. I LOVE the name they came up with, even though it wasn't an animal: The Republic City Equalists. It still makes me laugh. But my favorite part of the whole story is Asami giving Shiro Shinobi hell because she'd read all the pro-bending rules and could cite them (my favorite part of any story is usually Asami giving someone hell). I modeled her threat after the Dallas Stars NHL hockey franchise, who built a bunch of rinks all over the city to pipeline kids into ice hockey. It's brilliant, and there's no reason that wouldn't work for pro-bending if everyone can using bending mecha.

Asami leveled her gaze at him. “So are you going to let us play, or aren’t you?”

Short answer: he does.

Final thought: someone pointed out to me once that this is the ship of fabulous hair. It really is, isn't it?
