Amidst the fleeting daylight a gentle breeze carried the light honeyed scent of cecilia’s to the top of Starsnatch Cliff. It ruffled the loose strands of your hair and nipped at your skin through the thin cotton of your shirt. In the early months of spring when the sun lingered in the evening sky just a bit longer, so did the crisp chill that kept the earth firm beneath your feet as you and Kazuha ascended the bluff. Though, as the moon crept closer and the evening deepened past the warm golden cast, you silently cursed Barbatos for letting his winds shoot straight through you.

At least, Kazuha was warm.

Like his ruby red eyes held embers between them rather than simply a set of inquisitive irises, vying for where his next adventure would take him. His smile too; it was warm and as radiant as the sun. You’d bear the weight of a thousand winters if it meant to once more be cradled by the eternal hearth that was Kazuha Kaedehara. 

“Penny for your thoughts?” Kazuha muses, a small smile tugging his lips upwards, “You seem to be lost in them.”

His nimble fingers brush against your cheek. The pads are calloused and rough to the touch but when he smooths the palm of his hand along the expanse of your face, it's feather light. He tilts your face down so your eyes meet his. Kazuha’s eyes are riddled with sleep, his lids have sagged and they’re plagued with dark circles beneath them. Still, he trains them on your face.

Brushing a few stray strands away from his forehead you sigh, “You’d find nothing but thoughts of you, my love.”

“And when you’re scribbling in that notebook of yours, do I cross your mind then?”

Cupping your hand over top of his, you lean into his touch. 

“You’re nosy,” you whisper, and he just laughs, “Would you like it if I asked you how many poems of yours I’ve inspired.”

Kazuha looks surprisingly smug from his perch on your lap, like you’ve somehow fallen right where he wanted you to, “It would be simpler if I told you which poems I’ve penned that were not about you.”

“That would still be a great many poems would that not?” You ask, your mouth threatening to dip into a frown, “Words seem to flow from you effortlessly, you always know what you want to say and exactly how you wish to say it.”

His lips curl into a small frown, brows knitting together, “Is something the matter?” Kazuha asks, “Something you’d like to share with me?”

“Sorry.”

You whisper it before even thinking. You’d spoken before thinking too, that icky green feeling spilling out and pouring onto him. 

“Why are you sorry?” 

His thumb smooths against your cheek and forces your head to remain tilted towards him. 

“What’s wrong, love?”

“I don’t know,” you whisper, “I just … I don’t know.”

It wasn’t his fault, not really. The raging, fiery eyed monster that reared its head whenever you felt inadequate was no fault but your own. It felt too silly to verbalize, nonsensical to even attempt to share, and an unfair burden to rest upon his shoulders.

Sucking in deep breath, you muster up a smile for him, “It’s silly but sometimes my best doesn’t feel like enough,” you say, leaning into his hand, “And I wonder why I should even try when there’s always someone more talented out there, who writes with such speed it makes my head spin.”

“A person's art isn’t quantified by how quickly they can produce it or how much they make,” Kazuha says, sincerity lacing his words, “Art isn’t quantified by anything other than the artist's intent.”

“Kazuha…”

“You aren’t defined by your art,” he’s firm, Kazuha is never firm, he’s too much of a free spirit to allow himself be set in stone, “You aren’t defined by anything other than what’s in your heart.”

Leaning upwards, Kazuha presses his forehead against yours. His hair tickles your cheeks and his hot breath warms your chilled skin.

“To me you are perfect, and I love you more than words can express. And if you forget that, I’ll be more than happy to pen a few poems to remind you.”

My Novel - Chapter 2

My train arrived in the city at around midday. I wasn’t hungry, I’d eaten a little on the journey. And besides, I was so nervous to see Daisy and Albert again that I couldn’t have eaten anything. I barely ate what I bought for myself. I had half of my sandwich and picked at the crisps, the remnants of which were on the seat next to me which hadn’t been booked. I was glad for that, I was very fidgety, and anyone next to me would have become very frustrated with me. After everyone in my coach had stood up and retrieved their luggage, I too did the same. I collected my sandwich and crisps and put them neatly into my bag, careful not to spill any of it. I stood up and walked to the end of the carriage and pulled my two suitcases from the second shelf of the rack. I rolled each of them to the door and set them down on the platform in front of me before stepping onto it myself.

I looked around for Daisy and Albert but I couldn’t find them. No doubt they had managed to get themselves lost. They were both terrible with directions. Nearly five years ago when they were taking me to the train station instead of away from it, we got so lost that I nearly missed my train. I walked to one of the benches lined upon the platform and sat down, pulling my possessions close into me.

I turn to look at the clock, ten minutes has gone by. Perhaps they got the time wrong. I reach into my bag, and pull out my book. I attempt to read it, but none of the words are going in. I’m so nervous. I glance up from my book and see a woman, frantically looking around on the platform. She has shoulder length, golden brown hair, and it’s swaying behind her as she moves. She’s wearing a wonderful dress, it’s vintage, yellow, with a brown belt wrapped around her waist, and a blue denim jacket about her shoulders. It’s Daisy.

I stand up, anxious at what she might think of me. When I was younger, and living with her, my hair was very long and a dark brown, almost black. I had very pale skin and I was very skinny. Now, I had very short, light brown hair. Where I lived in Germany was always very sunny, so I was naturally tanned. I had grown into myself, my hips had broadened and I wasn’t so skinny anymore. I was slender, I had a fit physique. I was wearing a corduroy pink skirt with tights and a white Tee-shirt underneath my oversized leather jacket. We locked eyes, she saw me. She knew it was me. I looked a lot like her now. I looked a lot like my mother.

She rushed over to me, and crashed into my body, wrapping her arms around me. Oh how I have missed daisy. Her embrace was so intense, I thought I might cry, but I held it in. She was crying. She pulled away and took a good long look at me.

“You look so beautiful. You look exactly like your mother,” she says, tears in her eyes.

“Thank you. You look wonderful as well, you haven’t changed,” I say. I’m glad she hasn't changed. She’s still my Daisy. The Daisy I always remembered.

She doesn’t know what to say, I can see it. I don’t know what to do either. But it doesn’t last long, Albert comes running in after her and as soon as he sees me, his eyes widen. He walks over to me, he’s not running but he’s walking at a pace. He stops in front of me and takes me in, and then leans forward with his arms out. I lean into his embrace. Albert has been Daisy’s partner since she was nineteen. They married shortly after I turned eleven, putting them at twenty-one. And here we all are, nearly six years later.

“Hello Albert,” I say, smiling.

“Hello, Cecilia. You look great,” he says to me, patting my shoulder. I nod my head. Daisy begins to babble, all about my old room, the house, the village. I love her voice, I love hearing her talk. I almost forgot how it sounded. The voice in her letters gradually faded into my own. I’ve missed Daisy.

I don’t look out the window much in the car journey. I want to see it all for myself when I walk. I walk a lot, it’s one of my favourite things to do. The scenery in Germany where I lived was wonderful, but it held no memories for me. Walking here, back home, that would be different. Daisy asked me lots of questions about how I had been, what Germany was like and all sorts of extras. I had talked about a lot of it in my letters but I knew it wasn’t the same. So I answered them all. When we arrive at the house, I step out of the car and look at it. It’s the same. Made from stone, it stands tall and proud, the large windows allowing you to see into the wonderful interior. The garden was lovely as well, Daisy must have kept it up. It was a wild garden, tamed to her liking. There were dozens of buttercups and forget-me-nots and little bluebells. It was quite a sight to see. Towards the back she was growing three sunflowers. I always remembered telling her that I wanted sunflowers. I suppose she eventually got around to it. The bay windows were lined with fairy lights and the shutters had been repainted a lovely pale green. My bedroom was in the back of the house, so I couldn’t see whether any of it looked the same. I’m sure it did.

Albert took my suitcases from the back of the car.

“Bloody hell, what have you got in here?” He says, straining to lift them up.

“About the last five years of my life. I couldn’t leave anything behind,” I say. Daisy rushes over in front of me to unlock the door. She opens it and beckons me in. I was right, nothing had changed. It was still all very modern looking. All very sleek. There were photos and paintings on the wall in the landing and the living room. The cream sofa had been kept very clean over the years, as well as their cream chair. The kitchen was bigger than I remembered. The countertops matched the sofas, but the cupboards were a dark brown, contrasting very nicely.

“Are you hungry? No I suppose not. Would you like to see your room? Well I mean nothing has changed,” she gushes.

“Yes, actually I’d love to see my room,” I say. I can remember it as clear as day, but that’s not the same as seeing it. She leads me up the stairs, the wall beside them is filled with photos of her and Albert, me and her friends. And my mother and father. I hesitate next to their photo, but quickly regain my composure and continue up the stairs behind Daisy. She opens the door to my room and waits in the landing.

“I’ll leave you alone for a while, Albert will bring you your things,” she says smiling, and leaves. Just like that. I would imagine that she doesn’t know how to talk to me anymore. Talking to an eleven year old is very different to talking to someone who is nearly seventeen. I’ll admit, I’m not sure how to talk to her either. So, we don’t.

I look at my room. The walls are painted white and filled with posters, art and photos from my eleven year old life. The bed is barely two feet from the ground. I sit on it and it creeks under my body weight. I think a new one is in order. I gaze at my room, all the stickers on the furniture, all the childish books scattered across the room and and on the white bookcase. The little TV with a curved screen. I was not getting rid of that, it looked amazing. My vanity desk, made to look vintage. That would stay too.

Though it was my first day here, and I had only been back in the country a few hours, (including the train journeys) I wanted to clear it out and make it new. I wouldn’t be able to sleep with all these memories starring me in the face and suffocating me. It had to go. I start by ripping the posters of Olly Murs and JLS off of the walls. I hadn’t listened to them in a long time. I much preferred older music, or very unpopular modern music that no one had heard of. The wall stickers had to go too, and all the old art. I leave the pictures of me and my family up, they were staying exactly where they were. I walk up to a chest of drawers and open it. It’s full of all my old clothes. I pick out a few items I want to keep for sentimental reasons, and put the rest of them in a pile. A charity shop could make very good use of them. I walk over to the vanity and get rid of some of the brick-o-brack I had on top of it. In the drawer were old brushes and combs and hair ties. They would probably all go, I had all of that in my suitcase. I gather all my books and go through them. I decide to keep the Harry Potter series and The Lord Of The Rings. The rest would go. I should probably get The Hobbit as well, I’ve never read it.

I’d managed to keep much of my feelings in check since I arrived back at the house. But all that came crumbling down. I sit on my bed looking at old photos of me and my friends. Tears are streaming down my face, remembering them, remembering us and how happy we were. Who would’ve known that it would all come to end, and so soon after many of these photos were taken. There’s one picture of all of us down by the river that we used to go to all the time. It’s heartbreaking. There we all are, Alex, me, David, Evan and Bailey. I run my fingers across the print and linger on the figure of David. Poor poor David.

It was the summer of 2015 when David died. It was right before his twelfth birthday. They said he’d ‘had an accident’, and fallen into the river, banged his head and drowned. But we never went to the river alone. We never did that. We agreed never to do that, it was our place. We would never go alone, especially at night. And we were eleven, the thought of going to the river alone at night scared the living daylights out of us. We tried one summer to sneak out and go, but we got too scared and ended up turning around. We were all grounded for nearly a month. He would never have gone alone. They said the time of death was around midnight. He definitely wasn’t alone.

I wanted to go back. I wanted to see it.

Greetings brothers and sisters in Christ.  Before I can go in this new blog post, I would like to update everyone:  It has been a few weeks since I last posted anything.  I have lost my Facebook profile for good and as a consequence, became very discouraged because I am unable to post to my primary audience.  I still have Instagram, Twitter, and have recently created accounts on Tumblr, Parler, and Reddit so I can find other ways to reach other folks.  I will start posting regularly beginning tomorrow.

Hawaii, particularly the island of Oahu, has been under a Hurricane Watch.  Hurricane Douglas has been bearing dangerously close to our island but it seems like we will be okay.  Thanks folks.  Now on to the blog post:

This blog post is to show how much of our Mother Church is under heavy attack.  It is aggravating, agonizing, and saddening to see our Churches under attack, particular in North America.  All of this information I have compiled from the Interactive Map of Attacks on Catholics from the website Complicit Clergy.  There have been churches in other parts of the world also that were attacked as well and I will make another blog post in regards to those attacks of the churches in other parts of the world.  Let us pray hard, pray unceasingly, and stay faithful to the Lord.  God bless!

You whipped around to face him as you heard the hotel room door shut. Your nostrils flared and your hands clenched as your throat painfully tightened in pure anger. He seemed scared to see you in this state, his whole body quivering under your intense glare.

“I can’t believe you. Three years. Three whole fucking years and she didn’t know that we were married?!” you finally spat out.

He flinched at your words, feeling the anger radiating from your body. “I know you’re upset, but please understand that I had a very good reason.”

You huffed, sliding off your heels.

“What ‘good’ reason could you possibly have to not mention your marriage to your own goddamn mother?! Do you know how mortified I am?!” you shouted, chucking your shoes at him. He refused to move, squinting his eyes shut as the shoes hit his chest and shoulder.

“Yes, but I was going to tell her eventua-”

“WHEN were you going to tell her, Jin?! The poor woman still thought I was your exchange student from college! It doesn’t help that she’s not that fond of foreigners to begin with!”

“Well I don’t know what you want me to do about it now! What’s done is done…. Please just let me explain myself, goddamnit!” he shot back, his tone catching you off guard. You have had enough of him playing the victim. You tightened your jaw, the words leaving your mouth before you could think.

“Get out.”

Jin’s eyes widened at your words, his aggressive exterior immediately vanishing. “W-what?”

You took a deep breath and lifted your eyes to meet his, your heart instantly breaking upon the sight of your husband’s lip trembling.. “You heard me. Get out.”

He rolled his eyes and scoffed as his brows furrowed in frustration.

“Aish.. Michigetda….” he grumbled under his breath. He shot you one last look before turning around slamming the door behind him.

Worry began to fill your head as you stood in front of the mirror in your underwear. You had noticed that about 30 minutes had gone by since you kicked him out. I wonder if he’s okay.. you thought while reaching for your phone on the sink. You hesitated to dial his number, your thumb hovering over the call button. A sigh escaped your lips as you gave in, pressing his number.

Your stomach dropped as the call went straight to voicemail, leaving you with twice the amount of worry you had before. You couldn’t stay still now. You paced around the hotel room, anxiety eating at your brain. Out of curiosity, you checked the time on your phone.

“2:32 am?!” You exclaimed. You quickly tossed your phone off to the side, running across the room to grab clothes. “Fuck!”

How stupid could you be? How could you kick your husband out of your shared hotel room in the early hours of the morning? Where was he supposed to go? Back to his mother’s? Your mind went into full panic mode as you hastily threw on a coat and sneakers, disregarding the fact that you only had a bra and underwear on underneath. You didn’t care at this point. You needed to make sure he was okay.

You grabbed your purse off of the bed, preparing yourself to take the subway towards Gwacheon. Tugging the door open, you stumbled out, tripping over your unusually large shoes. You looked down, realizing that the shoes you were wearing were Jin’s.

“Fuck! I’m such a fucking idiot!” you mumbled to yourself, rubbing at your temples. You seriously screwed up. Both of you are supposed to be flying back to  America in 7 hours and you’ve lost your husband, all because you were upset.

“What in the world are you wearing?”

You froze at the familiar voice coming from behind you. Slowly turning around, your eyes fell down to the handsome man that was your husband, sitting on the floor outside your hotel room. You could tell that he was crying. His face was puffy and red, and his knotted hair was sticking up in all directions. He looked so pitiful, like a little kid that was abandoned.

You didn’t give him time to stand up before you jumped on him, sobbing into his shoulder.

“I’m so sorry, Jin. I’m such a moron and a terrible wife and I’m so fucking sorry for doing this to you. I thought you had left to go home.”

He picked you up, letting you wrap your legs around his waist. He took a gentle hand and lifted your face to his, his bloodshot eyes meeting yours.

“Home? You’re my home.” he said, accompanied with a cute smile.

His smile quickly faded as he carefully let you down back on your feet, reaching for your hands. “So I’m guessing that you want to know why I didn’t tell her.”

You nodded.

“You already know how my mom isn’t a huge fan of foreigners..”

You nodded again, wondering where he was going with this.

His grip tightened as a sigh left his lips. “Well....back in the late 70′s, my mother married an American soldier.”

His words hit you like a brick wall. You opened your mouth to say something, but no words would come out.

He chuckled at your expression. “Bet you weren’t expecting that, were you?” he asked.

You shook your head, trying to process what he had said. “Not at all,” you answered, “but why would she marry a foreigner if she doesn’t like them?”

“That’s the thing,” he started, “she used to not have a problem with them.”

You shifted your feet, reluctantly growing curious. “Well….what happened?”

“She got her heart broken.” He swiped his thumb across your hand. “They were together for 10 years. One day he was there, and the next, he was gone. No letters. No phone calls. So, she moved right back to Korea where she met my father and, a few years later, gave birth to me. My father was an abusive man, and they split up before I was born. To this day, she’s still in love with that soldier. And.... although she’s too proud to admit it, she still waits for him.”

“Oh wow,” your voice cracked, “I had no idea. That’s crazy. Your poor mother….”

He nodded at your words. “She just doesn’t want to see the same thing happen to me. It’s not personal. I hope you understand that was the reason why I was so hesitant to tel-”

You cut him off with a passionate kiss. His face turned red at the sudden action, a smile slowly creeping onto his face.

“I’ll never leave you. I promise.” you said as you held up your pinky finger. “Now let’s go back inside and get some sleep, hm?” 

                                             {7 months later}

Dressed in black, you looked nervously around the dimly lit room as more and more of Jin’s friends and family piled in. They all approached you one by one, giving their thoughts and apologies, before turning and bowing at the dark green urn that was positioned beside your favorite picture of Jin. He was wearing a red sweater, his expression in mid-laugh. You remember when you took the picture, but you never really took the time to look at his youthful appearance- his squinted eyes, his open mouth displaying his charming teeth, and the slight pink tint to his golden cheeks. You’ve always loved the picture, but you’ve never loved it as much as you do now. 

You never thought that you would end up being a widow. You felt so many emotions when you heard the news of Jin’s death, mostly angry and depressed. Angry- because he never told you about the growing tumor in his brain, and depressed, because of how cruel life can be. 

The sudden silence of the room snapped you out of your thoughts. You quickly looked up to see what was happening. 

Your breath hitched when your eyes found Jin’s mother, standing in the doorway. Upon seeing her gaze fall on you, your face flushed with embarrassment, for you haven’t seen her since the day Jin passively informed her of your marriage. She quickly made her way over towards you, her expression frantic. 

“Where…he…J-Jin..?” she asked in her broken English.

You pointed a finger towards the urn. She started to walk away when you grabbed her wrist, making her stop in her tracks. She slowly turned to look at you, a confused expression painted on her face. 

You calmly rose from your seat and bowed deeply. You held the position as tears fell from your eyes. “Antakkaun maeumeul jeonhapnida.” (I’m sorry for your loss.)

She slightly bowed back, her eyes glued to the ground as she avoided eye contact.

“Oh! Yes, right..” you muttered to yourself as you dug in your jacket pocket, fishing out your envelope of condolence money. You gripped it with both hands before handing it to her. 

She nodded and mumbled a quiet “Gomawoyo” before heading towards Jin’s urn.

You sat back in your chair and sighed as you watched her light a candle and set it next to his photo. 

“Well that was awkward… She actually showed up, huh?” You heard your friend Yoongi huff beside you. 

“Yeah… I didn’t expect her to come at all. She doesn’t appreciate foreigners, let alone a melting pot like America.” Hoseok said as he came up behind Yoongi.

You shrugged. “Well it’s her son… I would go through hell for my child if I had one... That poor woman.”

Jin’s mother took a seat in the front row as his family members announced the beginning of the ceremony.

                                              {3 ½ weeks later}

KNOCK! KNOCK!

You shifted in your bed.

KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!

The pounding on the door awoke you from your sleep. You grunted, struggling to sit up. 

KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK! KNOCK!

“Mmmh! I’m coming!” you whined as you quickly swung your legs over the side of the bed, dragging your feet on the way to the door. You opened the door before Yoongi could knock on it again. 

He chuckled. “Wow. You look like shit.”

“What do you want?” you asked as you rubbed at your eye, your vision still adjusting to the bright daylight coming into your home.

“Wow, I thought you’d be a bit more eager to see us, seeing as that you haven’t talked to us in over a month!” Hoseok sarcastically snapped. 

“And guess who came back from Australia!” you heard a familiar voice say from behind Yoongi and Hoseok. 

Your eyes widened. “Is that… Kookie?”

Jungkook jumped out with his hands full of presents. “Merry Christmas!”

Your expression immediately softened upon seeing your brother for the first time in a year, and you welcomed him with a tight hug. 

“Well now that we’ve made your life a little less miserable, here.” Hoseok said as he tossed a present to you. You mouthed a silent ‘thank you’ before placing the present on your dining room table.

“Thanks guys, I really appreciate it…. But I had no clue that it was Christmas.”

Yoongi walked in with two handfuls of mail. “Yeah, we can tell.  When was the last time you checked your mailbox? Or... left your house?”

You looked down at your feet. “I uh….quit my job. So… about 3 weeks ago?”

“You WHAT?” Jungkook exclaimed.

You shifted uncomfortably under the burning gaze of three pairs of eyes that were ready to pop any second.

“I blew up at my boss and quit before she could even fire me.” you responded, plopping down on your living room couch while running your hands through your messy hair. 

“You do realize that you’ll be broke any moment now, do you? Do you know that you fucked up, by any chance?” Hoseok mumbled as he took a seat on the arm of your couch.

“I know! I’m fucking dumb!” you cried, pushing your face into your pillow.

“Well, you got that right!” Yoongi giggled as he walked over to the kitchen. “We’re going to pay your piled up bills before you start living like a caveman, ok?”

“And we’re going to go job searching, right?” Hoseok added as he nudged your shoulder.

You groaned, throwing your pillow down in defeat. “Fine. Stop nagging. Now give me a damn present!”

“HAND THE GRINCH A PRESENT!” Hoseok shouted at Jungkook. You watched as your brother scrambled around, tossing the first present he found towards you. 

“I’m sorry that I don’t have any presents for you guys… You can just look around the house and take something you want. I’m a mess..” you sighed, tearing open the first present. 

“Awww.. baby. We still love you even though you live like a disgusting pig!” Hoseok purred sarcastically. You shot back at him by sticking your tongue out.

“Uh… guys? I think you’ll wanna look at this!” Yoongi shouted from the kitchen. 

You groaned. “Yes, I know my house is messy! Sorry about that!” you shouted back, turning your attention back to your half-opened present.

“No, no. It’s…uh.. it’s a letter. From Jin.”

aproveitar os momentos em que estava com mathias era a coisa mais simples do mundo para cecilia; as conversas de ambos pareciam tender a fluir com toda a facilidade do mundo, eram semelhantes e, para todos os efeitos, até mesmo o seu senso de humor era compatível. o riwut era simplesmente tudo o que poderia querer em alguém, e não imaginava uma pessoa melhor com quem poderia estar passando por aquilo junto. embora estivessem passando por uma semana de temperaturas relativamente baixas para as usuais da primavera em são francisco, o dia estava tão bonito que não pudera evitar insistir que eles saíssem para dar uma volta no parque próximo ao edifício onde estavam morando. não esperava, claro, que um vento desagradável acabasse surgindo enquanto caminhavam, estragando a sensação boa que o sol estava causando em uma tarde tão agradável. para piorar a situação, sua jaqueta não se mostrava de nenhuma forma realmente eficiente em colaborar no combate ao frio, mas não queria falar nada para o riwut, temendo que acabaria arruinando o passeio de ambos com reclamações. e a mulligan realmente estava gostando do passeio de ambos, apesar do empecilho que surgira. 

escutar as palavras do riwut, contudo, foi o suficiente para fazê-la abrir um sorriso radiante. a ideia de que ele poderia perceber quando estava precisando de algo realmente não soava ruim para cecilia, e ela nunca poderia reclamar da constante disposição dele a ajudá-la. “sinceramente, acho que vou acabar congelando e virando um pinguim.” murmurou, um certo tom de resmungo dominando sua voz. então, aproveitando a deixa que ele tinha dado, contornou o tronco masculino com os braços e encostou a cabeça em seu ombro, ainda sorrindo ao sentir o braço dele envolvendo os seus. aquele era, provavelmente, o primeiro relacionamento em sua vida em que conseguia se sentir genuinamente com alguma segurança, em que não estava constantemente considerando a possibilidade de estar sendo uma idiota, ou exagerada e empolgada demais. com mathias, se sentia confortável. e era impossível que não acabasse se apaixonando por alguém como ele. “esse vento surgiu praticamente do nada, parece até invocação. mas o dia tá tão bonito que eu nem consigo ficar genuinamente brava, estava exausta de viver praticamente em filmes de terror com aquela neblina toda da semana passada.” tentava ver sempre o lado positivo de tudo e, bom, lá estava.

conforme continuavam andando juntos, se aproximavam da parte do parque em que encontrariam mais uma vez as ruas movimentadas da cidade. poderiam somente retornar para o apartamento, é claro, e os pés de cecilia certamente agradeceriam, considerando que estava desacostumada a caminhar tanto após o início da gravidez. contudo, não queria que acabassem tão cedo assim a sua saída, especialmente por não saber quando aconteceria novamente a coincidência de estarem ambos com o dia livre e ainda com o céu limpo para lhe deixar empolgada. “eu tive uma ideia.” acabou comentando, se afastando dele só o suficiente para que pudesse olhar diretamente para o seu rosto enquanto falava. e, céus, como aquele homem era bonito. não conseguia realmente olhar para ele sem notar isso a cada momento. “o que me diria se eu te convidasse pra irmos na cafeteria que abriu aqui perto?” sugeriu, erguendo uma das sobrancelhas. “estou morrendo de vontade de provar uma torta red velvet que tem na vitrine, não sei se não sou capaz de acabar assaltando eles se não conseguir provar essa semana ainda. é caso de vida ou morte, mathias.” o paramédico deveria estar muito bem acostumado com o tom dramático que cecilia frequentemente adicionava em suas palavras. “por favor? eu até te pago um chocolate quente.”

enquanto sentia os lábios masculinos tocando em sua pele, a mulligan observava com um sorriso; toda a animação de mathias quanto a gravidez nunca deixava de aumentar a sua própria, ainda mais quando havia temido por tanto tempo inicialmente que acabaria tendo de fazer tudo aquilo sozinha. entretanto, desde o primeiro momento o outro havia tentado deixar claro o seu interesse em ser presente em todo e qualquer avanço da gestação, e a proximidade crescente entre ambos era cada vez mais eficiente com a missão de deixá-la mais segura sobre o que viria dali. simplesmente amava a ideia de que poderiam ter a oportunidade de proporcionar para sua filha o que ela mesma nunca havia tido em seu lar, com todas as problemáticas envolvendo a relação com sua mãe e a saída de seu pai de casa quando tinha somente doze anos. e imaginava que o riwut poderia compreender aquilo, em certo ponto, visto que este sequer possuía um nome para associar a figura de um pai que nunca tinha encontrado.

retirando a mão que anteriormente utilizava para apoiar a cabeça, a repousou somente sobre a dupla de travesseiros que tinha ajeitado na cama do mais velho. com os problemas que haviam tido no início do mês quanto a gestação, era reconfortante que estava com alguém que poderia ajudá-la, mesmo que nas pequenas coisas, como garantir que estivesse confortável enquanto deitada. então, desceu com a agora livre mão até o cabelo escuro do outro, começando a acariciar suavemente os fios de forma familiar; as parte boas de terem se aproximado eram várias, mas certamente estava entre elas poder realizar aquele tipo de coisa sem se sentir tão estranha. “não acha que deveríamos voltar a discutir o nome?” fez a sugestão, sorrindo de canto para mathias. “realmente não temos nada mais pra fazer hoje, e assim a gente garante que vamos realmente conversar ao invés de sair um pouco mais cedo pro trabalho, e fugir de avisar que o nome que o outro sugeriu é a coisa mais feia que já ouviu.” brincou.

“eu acho que cada um de nós deveria ter três poderes de veto, ao menos. de resto, só com alguma explicação muito plausível pra tirar de consideração… tem algum nome que você realmente não goste, ou te traga algum sentimento ruim?” resolveu questionar, imaginando que seria uma forma já mais simples de iniciarem a discussão novamente se soubessem onde nem valeria a pena tentar lutar. a própria cecilia já se adiantou em acrescentar às suas próprias menções naquela questão, tanto por saber que mostrar iniciativa sempre animava mais os outros, quanto por não saber apenas esperar a mente do riwut começar a funcionar. “por exemplo, eu me recuso a carregar uma criança por nove meses só pra acabar dividindo o nome com uma desequilibrada do meu ensino médio, então heather já ‘tá fora de cogitação imediatamente. e nenhum nome que pareça de mês, por favor, é muito brega… o meu limite é may, mas fica muito mais bonitinho como apelido.” tentou explicar. “a gente não é lá o canal do tempo pra pegar nome de estação, também.”

quando o tópico seguinte que precisava tratar surgiu em sua mente, ponderou por um momento se era a melhor ideia tratá-lo daquela forma, mas imaginou que seria mais fácil só deixar esclarecido antes que acabassem tendo aquela conversa de uma forma mais constrangedora. “minha mãe provavelmente vai querer que coloquemos o nome dela como primeiro nome ou nome do meio, e eu estou te implorando que seja firme se ela começar com uma conversa assim contigo. podemos inventar que, sei lá, temos já as roupinhas e acessórios com as iniciais dela escritas junto, ou que prometeu pra sua tia, prima, hamster do fundamental, a coisa que for, que iria colocar o nome do meio de alguém quando tivesse filhos…” as palavras cessaram, imaginando que ele entenderia onde estava querendo chegar com aquilo. então, deu um tapinha de leve na área ao seu lado na cama, indicando para o homem deitar junto consigo. “o que, também, nos leva a outra coisa… eu não tenho absolutamente nada contra a sua mãe, ela é ótima e tudo o mais, só que nem podemos cogitar o dela, nem mesmo como nome do meio, ou a minha mãe vai surtar. podemos muito bem nos poupar dessa.”

desde a descoberta da gravidez, cecilia tentava encontrar uma forma de contar para as amigas qual era a verdadeira realidade de seu relacionamento com o responsável pelo feito. entretanto, toda vez que ela tentava explicar que não estavam realmente juntos e fora fruto completamente de uma única noite, sua chance ia por água abaixo quando as outras começavam a tagarelar sobre só-deus-sabia-de-onde-vinha ramificação do assunto que conseguiam criar. acabar decidindo por contar primeiramente para uma das mais próximas no grupo fora a forma que encontrou de lidar com a situação, quase como se estivesse a colocando sob um experimento social. este que katherine nem sequer estava passando com excelência, visto que a sucessão de comentários sem ligação alguma um com o outro a estava deixando quase com dor de cabeça. “pelo amor de deus, depois quem desata a falar ainda sou eu, né. vou adiantar: nós nunca saímos antes ou depois disso, kat. você não tem como conhecer ele de nenhum lugar.” 

a expressão da amiga congelou por alguns instantes, conforme associava as informações que cecilia já havia cansado de dizer de outras maneiras, mas não entravam na cabeça da mais velha tão facilmente - talvez porque era informação demais saber que a vendedora estava grávida de um cara com quem saíra uma única vez em sua vida. e nem era realmente uma saída, visto que se encontraram no bar e somente foram ao seu apartamento. ‘porra, cecilia, mas como você conseguiu essa proeza? numa só noite? não sabe usar preservativo?’, questionou, ao que a mulligan apenas bufava em resposta, tornando a escutar a tagarelice em sequência alheia, ‘pra quem ‘tava querendo aproveitar a piranhagem, até que você foi pra algo mais sério rápido, né? e, por favor, me diz que você não ‘tá nos enrolando e esse carinha não é aquele insuportável que você conheceu no tinder’. “em primeiro lugar, eu saí uma vez com aquele cara. uma vez! não sou tão desesperada pra me enfiar num desastre de proporções apocalípticas que seria ter um bebê com alguém assim. e vou ignorar a primeira história ali, aliás. a gente não tá na época da inquisição de novo, não faz eu me sentir culpada.” resmungou. “e o mathias… sério, ele não é nada como aquele cara. ou com qualquer um que eu saí em um bom tempo"

a curiosidade da outra, então, pareceu apontar justamente pela forma que cecilia falava dele. e não iria contar nenhuma mentira, porque não tinha nada além das melhores coisas a dizer sobre mathias em um primeiro momento. era desconfiada o suficiente para não colocar sua mão no fogo precipitadamente; o homem era o pai de sua filha, mas não o conhecia tanto assim. entretanto, não via motivos para não lhe falar bem aos outros. “ele é muito legal, de verdade. é um amor, sabe? ele foi… ele foi legal comigo desde o primeiro momento em que a gente se conheceu. a maioria dos caras parece agir como se eu fosse insuportável ou falo demais, e ele… o mathias parecia interessado em tudo, tudo mesmo, que eu dizia pra ele. e isso que ele estava tendo uma noite de merda, mas não impediu de ser um cara super gentil comigo toda hora. sabe que ele é paramédico?” óbvio que katherine não tinha um único jeito de saber aquilo, mas a mulligan prosseguiu da mesma forma. “só alguém que quer muito de ajudar os outros tem uma profissão com esse nível de atividade, sabe, e… eu realmente acho que ele vai ser um ótimo pai. ele tá tão animado, e a ficha demorou bem menos pra cair do que eu 'tava imaginando. ai, e ele é tão bonito…” desbloqueou o celular ao findar a frase, suspirando ao que abria a galeria para mostrar uma foto do riwut. “amiga, vê isso. ele é um dos caras mais bonitos que eu já vi na minha vida.”

com os planos desde semanas antes firmados com as amigas para se encontrarem no bar favorito que o grupo frequentava, até mesmo com as fantasias estabelecidas de maneira que combinassem entre si, de maneira alguma a mulligan imaginava que acabaria sem nenhuma delas no decorrer da noite. ainda era cedo quando descobriu que nenhuma delas estava mais disposta a saírem de casa para aproveitarem as comemorações do dia das bruxas, entretanto, com sua maquiagem feita e a fantasia nova marcando sua presença em um dos cabides de seu guarda-roupas, não seria cecilia a desistir de desfrutar de sua noite - por mais incomodada que estivesse com a situação que surgira sem que tivesse como fazer nada para revertê-la. havia dado o seu jeito de aproveitar a noite mesmo que inicialmente sozinha e, sem dúvidas, a excelente companhia que tinha encontrado em mathias era a grande motivação para se sentir daquela forma. 

embora fosse costumeiro de sua parte limitar seus encontros em estranhos que encontrava quando saía, como desistira de aplicativos de namoro ao concluir que ocasionariam mais dores de cabeça que todos os possíveis benefícios pelos quais ansiava em um relacionamento rápido - se é que poderia chamar de relacionamentos, quando dificilmente encontrava algum deles por mais de uma noite -, não estava pelo seu plano da noite encontrar alguém em sua ida ao bar. somente queria beber mais do que deveria, com o desconto oferecido para aqueles que estavam utilizando as fantasias características daquela noite. ter encontrado o riwut fora uma surpresa completa, mas não de uma maneira ruim; embora fosse visível o quão diferente de sua normalidade ele deveria estar quando se encontraram no estabelecimento, passar a noite ao seu lado fora o suficiente para substituir completamente a imagem inicial que tivera dele em um primeiro instante, por uma da qual gostava muito mais. 

não era nenhuma surpresa que tivesse concordado de imediato em ir com ele até onde morava, o olhar curioso percorrendo o ambiente na medida em que sua curiosidade se apresentava para conhecê-lo. era sempre uma ótima forma de entender melhor o funcionamento dos demais, em sua opinião, observar o local onde viviam e a maneira como o organizavam; o que consideravam essencial de ter, e quais eram as escolhas de decoração de cada um. esquecendo-se por um instante que tinha entregado seu celular a ele, o questionamento a levou de volta para a conversa de ambos. assim, acabou abrindo um sorriso ao encará-lo. “depende, você tem algum pôster perdido de transformers ou pulp fiction, ou algum jogo por aqui? eu tenho pouquíssimos critérios, mas com certeza não sair com um jogador de lol é um.” brincou, as sobrancelhas se erguendo em sequência. “me dá o seu celular também, vou salvar o meu número. e você, por acaso vai me mandar mensagem se eu fizer isso?” questionou, aproveitando-se da escolha de palavras do mais alto para devolver a pergunta.

com o aparelho alheio em mãos, abriu o aplicativo de contatos e rapidamente colocou seu número e se enviou uma mensagem para garantir que não perderia o dele. em seguida, não perdeu a chance de tirar uma foto sua para colocar como a de contato. “vou tirar uma sua também, sem discussão.” a mulher avisou, devolvendo o celular e pegando de volta o seu, o enquadrando na câmera para garantir sua foto antes que ele tivesse a oportunidade de impedi-la. ao alcançar o resultado esperado, guardou na bolsa o dispositivo e a colocou sobre uma mesinha próxima, podendo retornar com suas atenções para o riwut. “eu preciso pensar se vou te dar realmente uma chance, ok?” ainda exibindo um sorriso divertido, se aproximou de maneira que pudesse envolver o pescoço dele com os braços - esperava que mathias não estivesse realmente a levando a sério naquela questão. era óbvio que adoraria dar uma chance a ele de terem algo além de somente uma noite, porém, não era pouca a quantidade de fatores que a deixava um tanto receosa. “você deve ser o cara mais bonito que eu encontrei lá em muito tempo… apesar de estar perdendo alguns bons pontos por não aparecer de fantasia em pleno halloween. mas não se pode ter tudo, né?” riu, aproveitando para aproximar-se e cobrir os lábios masculinos com os seus. “por acaso pretende me dar motivos pra te encontrar de novo?”

um sorriso genuíno dominou os lábios da mulligan ao escutar a resposta do outro, juntando ambas suas mãos em frente ao peito em uma gesticulação prática de sua felicidade. estivera um tanto pensativa em como poderia incluir mais mathias nos assuntos da gravidez agora que estavam organizando a situação na qual haviam entrado de maneira tão irresponsável, e lhe acalentava um tanto a realidade de que suas inseguranças quanto ao convite realizado nada mais eram que somente isso, inseguranças infundadas - graças a deus, pois não precisava de mais um empecilho em relação a tudo aquilo. impulsivamente, em uma atitude clássica de sua personalidade não muito contemplativa ou sequer puxada para o racional, a mulher ergueu-se na ponta dos pés e envolveu o pescoço masculino em um abraço, puxando o riwut na sua direção antes mesmo que pudesse protestar sobre a ação de cecilia. “muito obrigada, mesmo. não sei porque estava tão receosa de te perguntar isso.” acabou confessando, apoiando o queixo por um instante no ombro alheio. “ir sozinha foi um pouco desanimador das outras vezes, você realmente não imagina com que cara uma senhora ficou me olhando na sala de espera. não que eu esteja te culpando por não ir, não é isso. você nem sabia ainda.” ao menos, na primeira sessão era o caso; em se tratando da segunda, era mais por precisar de preparo psicológico para convidá-lo para aquilo. ainda estava receosa que mathias poderia acabar dando para trás na história de acompanhar a gravidez, e não precisava começar a montar suas esperanças somente para serem destruídas em sequência. “eu mando o endereço pra você depois, que tal? acho que vai ser algo muito bom pra gente, você vai gostar.”

“foi mal, acho que eu tô meio sensível. e empolgada. sensível e empolgada. mas não existe motivo pra ser recatada justamente com isso, você literalmente já esteve dentro de mim.” deu de ombros, rindo fraco. o que seria um abraço perto de terem passado a noite juntos e, aparentemente, ainda sem a mínima proteção? afinal, lá estava ela com suas semanas de gravidez. dando um passo para trás e, em consequência, desfazendo o enlace anterior com o mais alto, cecilia levou as mãos até os fios escuros que escapavam de seu rabo de cavalo; quando estava nervosa, gostava de se ocupar com elas por saber que não conseguiria parar até tirar daquilo de seu circuito. e, quando se tratava da questão que tinha de tratar com o paramédico, nem de perto era estava empolgada em ter de tocar naquele assunto. porém, o mesmo precisava saber onde estava entrando e com quem diabos também precisaria lidar por seu filho, por mais detestável que fosse somente mencionar de sua mãe com outras pessoas. principalmente pelo nível de seu problema só ser compreensível quando a viam por conta própria, na opinião da mulligan; daphne era tão desagradável que facilmente poderia parecer que a filha estava aumentando as histórias ao tratar dela com os outros. “tem outra coisa que eu preciso falar contigo, se estiver tudo ok. é um pouco importante pra mim, então, por favor, pelo menos considera o que eu vou te pedir.” cecilia engoliu em seco, afundando as mãos nos bolsos do abrigo. 

“não sei se você sabe, mas não contei pra ninguém da minha família sobre a gravidez ainda, nem mesmo o meu irmão. provavelmente iria ter contado pra minha mãe sem querer, e a última coisa que eu precisava era dela descobrindo… e, pior ainda, por outra pessoa.” provavelmente iria acusar a caçula de não possuir nem a menor das considerações dentro de si, e conseguia até mesmo escutá-la falando sobre. “nós não temos a melhor das relações, e ter que falar com ela sobre isso não vai ser nada legal. tipo, nada mesmo. eu daria um milhão em apostas de que ela vai dizer algo sobre como é a minha cara ter ficado grávida do primeiro cara que me deu atenção num bar.” e, embora tentasse falar aquilo como se estivesse com um certo drama ou senso de humor acrescentado em sua fala, genuinamente acreditava que iria ouvi-la dizer justamente aquilo. retirando as mãos do tecido do abrigo, respirou fundo e segurou as do riwut, o encarando diretamente nos olhos ao prosseguir: “eu realmente odeio te pedir isso, e vou entender se você não quiser, eu não vou te obrigar nem nada. ainda não decidi se vou falar com ela por telefone, chamada de vídeo ou realmente ir lá, mas preciso contar de um jeito ou de outro, e não vai ser muito fácil pra mim. gostaria muito de ter alguém do meu lado, porque eu realmente não sei se consigo fazer isso sozinha. e se você pudesse estar comigo… iria significar muito pra mim, mathias.”
