sprawled out on the couch, bowie was awaiting ripley’s arrival back home. they still hadn’t decided on what they were going to do for dinner and they were hungry, especially since bowie had forgotten to pack a lunch today for work. thankfully she did manage to get something out of their vending machine, but it wasn’t anything of actual nutritional value. they were also more than likely going to have to order something for delivery because the state of their fridge was... pretty bare. bowie had been so wrapped up other things that she had forgotten to do some grocery shopping. 

her head turned when she heard the front door open, her smile wide as ripley entered. “welcome home!” she announced, closing the book she had been sort of reading through and sitting up on the couch. “we either need to go grocery shopping or we order something in for dinner tonight.”

he had come in with his middle and youngest daugher, his oldest was off who knows where. living her adult life, that’s the way he’ll put it. not that benjamin really minded anyways, he always encouraged the independence and freedom of his daughters. so now it was the three of them against the world. as he approached the desk, he raised a curious eyebrow at the proposition. while he was intrigued, he couldn’t not pay her. “okay, how about we do the secret mission and hopefully you still keep your job? i’ll pay for the girls to get in, though i have a feeling they may want in on the adventure too.”

It wasn't a very busy day at the movie theater but Ripley was stuck with a bunch of annoying people this shift. She volunteered to sell tickets because there was absolutely no way she was going to work with anyone else. Drumming on the counter, she immediately threw her sticks in her back pocket once someone came up to the window. "Listen all the movies that we're playing absolutely suck right now. I'll either get you in for free or I have a secret mission if you're willing to accept it." She waggled her eyebrows for extra emphasis. "I'll ditch work and we can go somewhere else because what are they going to do, fire me?"

brinley was a fan of a lot of things, but the thing they loved the most was free. they loved a good deal and they didn’t even have to do a five finger discount to do it. which they had never done in their adult life but when they were a teen? absolutely. just for the rush of it. so of course, a moment where there was free ice cream? well brinley would be waiting int hat line for that. not the first though, maybe the 20th person. they turned their head when a familiar voice was heard, a grin forming on her lips. “oh you can absolutely buy me an ice cream cone, money bags.” they teased, nudging the other slightly.

If there was anything Ripley wasn't going to miss it was an opportunity to have some free shit. She could never use it after that day but what did it matter it was free. So the moment A La Mode announced free cone day Ripley made sure she was going to be there no matter what. Excitedly waiting in line she didn't notice who was in front of her until they turned around. She immediately had to stop her overly excitement to try to seem cool and chill. "Brinley! Hey! Can I buy you an ice cream cone?" Sure it was free but Ripley thought it was a smooth line.

he tilted his head from side to side, thinking about her comment and he couldn’t even disagree with it. after working with kids for a living, teenagers at that, he knew how big of critics they could be. plus, he’s had two now, 3 once his youngest reaches that phase. “my teenager is kind of going through that phase right now. though, she’s like weirdly nice about it. she’s like i hate your outfit but then says ‘haha april’s fools.’ but it was february, at the time i believe.” he chuckled, shaking his head at the memory. “no no, i’m committed to whatever we’ve got going on here, riple. let me go grab ‘em and we can see this surprise.” 

Ripley grinned as soon as he seemed to be interested in the secret mission she totally didn't make up on the spot. "Listen I doubt they'd even like it. Sometimes kids can be the worst critic of them all. Plus the more the merrier!" She winked to the kids, letting them know they were absolutely more than welcome to join. "But seriously if you do want to go to the movie, my treat. I won't lose my job I promise." Or at least she hoped she wouldn't.
