That would be Valen. He learnt all about stars, planets, galaxies, and constellations from an old nomad almanac he found while stationed at Ridgecrest. It was during his military service and he would ask his staff sgt for nighttime patrols/observation just so he could stare up at the night sky. Valen loves space and everything in it; he could spend so much time just watching planets flicker and pointing out constellations.

[He dresses pretty simply - a lot of dark colours and the words 'comfortable', 'tactical', and 'utilitarian' come to mind. Valen doesn't mind spending more on items that he really likes and knows will last him for a long while. About 40% of his attire is gear for work; lots of tactical clothing that gives him a bit of protection and holds his other gear. Such as holsters, tac vests, and other related things.]

This fit Valen so well in almost every way and uh the maker of this quiz will be hearing from my lawyer very soon 😭 I've always equated Valen to a very violent and very loyal guard dog. Scary, aggressive, but very protective and can still be controlled by his 'owner' (soulmate). The part about being the first to punch and sees everyone as an enemy? Both are correct; Valen usually chooses to not trust anyone at first sight and he's not one to let others get the upperhand on him. Not without consequences though, as Valen tends to be on the lonely side due to these defensive choices. And always being the most aggressive dog in the fight means that any sort of weakness he shows will be looked down on. He's under a metric ton of pressure to be the strong one, usually to his own detriment.

So, I suppose, Valen's soul looks a little war-torn. It looks like something that could kill you. His soul looks like jagged and sharp precious stones resembling teeth; pretty to look at, but dangerous, and covered with traces of the past; prior persons who wanted a piece for themselves and managed to break off a few chips. Leaving them broken but razor blade sharp.

Valen has been caught dead to rights in 4K. This fits him so well; Valen has always been someone who gives and gives, even been wiling to go so far as to give his own life. Valen doesn't even require much in return as an incentive to keep draining himself for someone he loves - he's used to only getting the most minimal affection back and that has been taken advantage of many times. Devotion like this, the kind that corrupts him, is how he tells someone he loves them. He can thank his past for that - everyone who he gave his heart to wanted more than just that. They wanted blood. They wanted to see him bleeding for them. And he did. Nowadays he's with a man who doesn't require Valen to come home to him beaten and covered in someone else's blood, but the wish to hurt and be hurt as a sign of devotion is still there.

This one hurt, aha. Vesper has always been one of those people who strive for better, who wants the best. He's almost addicted to constantly searching for something more because it means that he, himself, is worthy of more. Vesper's own self worth is, the majority of the time but not always, tied to what he has achieved and owns. Not so much in a material sense, but in a "I did this on my own and no one can take it away from me" sense. Can you tell that someone has used gifts and aid against him before? So, he yearns for things he doesn't have but it's actually hoping for freedom from feeling like he'll have to pay it all back one day. Vesper's content in his love life now, safe and sound with a man who wouldn't ask for anything he gives back, but Vesper still makes sure that he can provide for himself if need be.

ℑ'𝔪 𝔟𝔢𝔰𝔱 𝔞𝔱

I'm reframing how I describe Valen's particular set of skills. He was raised in a criminal syndicate, his dad taught him how to be a good criminal, he routinely does criminal things. I think he tries to keep it contained and be civil, but there's times where he can't and doesn't want to. He spent 8 of his formative childhood/teenager years in a gang being taught by a father who wanted nothing more than to see him become a useful piece of said gang.

Valen is a gangster/thug at his core whether he likes it or not (spoiler: he does).

Imagine someone's bothering his husband Nathan while they're out, or maybe someone from his past returns and scares/upsets him. Or maybe somebody is threatening/interfering a person close to him, or he's working with Reid and it feels really good being in a gang again.

Guess Valen doesn't have a choice and has to act like a thug again.

Truth be told, Valen enjoys being a threat. Enjoys the aggression and the violence. It's in his blood, it's where he came from. He gets a certain kind of charismatic assuredness when he's given the green light to be a thug. He's a violent, loyal guard dog who's so devoted that it corrupts him, so of course he gets a bit of delight from doing what he's made to do.

The situation happens where someone doesn't listen when he tells them to leave, let's say Vesper, alone, only for them to continue being a pest and harassing him, then Valen will just have to act like the gangster he was raised to be. I think the criminal in him comes out a little too easy and I think he enjoys it more than he lets on. There's a large part of him that rejoices because it feels right.

Afterwards, there's not much guilt at all. There's the feeling of satisfaction knowing that he protected someone he loves. But there's also the feeling of relief. Valen relieved because he was able to do what he's best at and he feels like himself again. All because he got to be a gangster again, like he was raised to be.

Maybe it's not good, but Valen doesn't mind. He's always known that he's the one who can do all of the bad things and dirty his hands just for the benefit of someone else. He'd rather he be the one labeled as a mean dog than someone he loves. Valen can handle it, can handle the weight of his actions, not everyone else can. If him being a gangster keeps someone else safe, then there's really no reason for him not to.

(Both Valen and I are well aware that this isn't exactly healthy, but he genuinely doesn't care that much. Valen is very self aware and knows what he is. He makes sure others know what he is and allows them to choose whether they stay or not. He enjoys that part of him too much to ever just put it down. He's unable to anyway. He's tried, and it felt like losing a limb. Completely ceasing that kind of behaviour would be cutting off a substantial chunk of his personality.)

Okay, tear him open then. This fits Valen a little too well; softness is something he was never allowed, mostly because it was wrung out of him at a young age. Softness meant inevitable pain and he very quickly learned that defensive hostility was the better option. Aggression keeps him safe, keeps him warm. Eventually, he does finally let his shoulders drop and his jaw un-tense, but it takes some time and a pair of very gentle hands to convince him to.

Oh, they're supposed to go for the throat, I see. Vesper has always had to live under the shadow of his father, always been struggling to be his own person. But he can't fight genetics and his dad appears no matter how hard Vesper tries to be someone else. He's similar to a ghost - trapped in one place, wishing someone would finally truly see that he's himself and not his dad and that they would want him regardless.

Gemini, you are so screwed up. He's new in Night City and one of the newer members of Archangel (a syndicate in my worldbuilding), but that's because he burnt his past life to the ground so resolutely that he doesn't really remember who he was. Gemini killed himself in a sense and has been trying to rebuild for so long that he ends up just picking up parts from other people that he likes. What he really wants is someone to tell him they love him even though he's unfinished and they know his heart is true.

There is a glass screen between these bodies and you. Relax your tight jaw and feel the real canine fear beneath that scabbed up cavity. The sacrifice of opening up is needed if to be loved as you deeply wish is inside. Desire doesn't discriminate between hands or spoken word. Why should you? ❞

I really liked this one for Valen specifically because it talks about how lonely he once was; how he'd find the most temporary comfort within a stranger and then go home alone to have to face the quiet again. I love how it compares love-making to a murder because there's not many things Valen likes more than leaving loving bruises behind on soft skin from kissing too roughly. He also felt like for the longest time like he had a thick glass barrier between him and everyone else - you can look, but don't get too close to me. He wanted so badly to be loved for so long in spite of how he'd keep everyone at arms' length. It was a safety measure, because the past kept coming back to remind him that when he let others inside, past the walls, all they did was grab his heart and twist. Imagine wanting to be loved so badly you ached but at the same time feared it. All Valen wants is to be devoured by another who'll keep him safe within themselves.

𝙑𝙀𝙎𝙋𝙀𝙍 // 01. 𝙈𝘼𝙐𝘿𝙇𝙄𝙉 𝙈𝘼𝙂𝘿𝘼𝙇𝙀𝙉𝙀 ⋆.𖥔 ݁ ˖

❝ An embrace with the shivering figure of a ghost. You cut your hair at 3 a.m. to change it all but it is no use. Love is a war to endure to you. You comfort and hold, kiss pressed to temple and cheek while feeling the numbness filling your nights to brim. What used to feel honorable has now become chore of breathing to sustain another. What else is love, but your lap to lay another's head into? Your fingers turn blue in the announcing dawn, the cold figure of what you used to know of yourself remains asleep next to them. Another version of you has crept out of your old body, has ripped and eaten itself out of a cast that was fused into the position of nurturing comfort. Remove yourself from your lovers before they become part of you, conjoined with your arms to anothers head you have no life apart of maudlin magdalene. You have given endlessly, but this isn't all there is to you. Acknowledge the good that has been done and let yourself be free. You deserve to feel held as well, you are more than what you can give of yourself before breaking down. ❞

This one again feels pretty fitting for Vesper. He's not like his brother Valen - he gives much more easily than he does and is more open with what he truly wishes for. But it's become more of a burden for Vesper to keep opening up his heart and not getting those things he really wants. He gives very easily, tries to support the people he's let inside, but it gets tiring when he gets not enough in return. Eventually, he does find someone who will give him all he needs and more, but everything up until that point was Vesper thinking that he had to be a giver, whether it was his body or his affection or anything else.

Valen not as a guardian angel but a guardian demon. He's not a gentle voice in someone's ear redirecting them from harm. He's the dark and shadowy, vengeful entity with shining eyes standing slightly behind his loved ones at all times quietly mouthing 'don't' at anyone who's trying to trifle with them. He's the guard dog kneeling for his owner so they can cup his chin while anyone watching is going "how is he doing that and why isn't he biting him". Not knowing that Valen would never bite the hand that pets his hair that soft. He's the one wearing the collar and leash-- I mean who said that

I decided to do this for Valen and honestly that sort of tracks for him FKEHDJS only a little, I promise that he's not an actual murderer. I know he's canonically a headhunter for 50% of his job but that's different <3 I could see him being the anti-hero in a horror movie, the one who's suspected of being the killer, but to be the actual killer? Maybe only if you really piss him off and did something to deserve killing. Because he is a violent little guy. But he also doesn't kill for fun. What I'm saying is that I loved this and I loved imagining Valen in this kind of scenario fhfhdhsks now I'm going to be thinking about it for a while, the silliness consumes me

But funnily enough I did the maker first and gave him the axe, only to do the quiz second and get that result 🌚

I'm sitting here thinking about Valen and his tendency to get into fights and that inherent sexuality of up close, hand to hand combat. What are you fighting those guys for Valen, is it because you're bloodthirsty? Or touch-starved? Or is it both? Your genetic predisposition to violence and lack of a loving hand for most of your life. You seek out someone else's blood on your face and the rush of adrenaline. It's intimate in a way, isn't it.

For most of his life, Valen's devoted the violence in him to others. Is that another reason why you like getting into fights? You fight for them so that after you've indulged in aggression on someone else's behalf, you'll walk away satisfied you've fulfilled your purpose. Do you hope that when you return to him, you'll get to rest your head on his lap while he praises you for how mean you were. Oh, Valen, you think that one of the greatest expressions of love is violence, don't you? It's many things all at once - protection, devotion, defense - but at the end of the day, you're still doing it because you like it.

Giving my daywalkers those eyes that reflect and shine and glimmer in the dark was the best idea I've ever had. There is nothing hotter than seeing those glinting, shining predator eyes coming out of the dark at you. Tapetum lucidum, what's sexier than that

────⭒ Apparently I have not been forthcoming enough about how truly fucked up Valen is. He's not just an aching, lonely shelter dog, he's a vicious and seething protective black dog who only knows two things: unfaltering devotion that burns hotter than a star and violence. Violence and aggression are hardwired into his very core. Violence, and everything that entails, is what he's best at. And if he is not in conflict or combat or serving/protecting at the beck and heel of a boy who loves him, then he's not truly himself.

────⭒ Valen is about two steps away from becoming a monster, letting that iron grip self-control slip. It would be the easier option, how freeing. But he holds it back, keeps the black dog he is in control, by his own unwavering personal (very grey) morals he staunchly follows and the small, aching part of him that somehow still wishes that he could just love someone gently because that's what he'd wished he'd been given.

────⭒ It's stunning how he just cups his love's face with hands that have done so many worse things and tells them he'll protect them from anything. But that's the thing; dogs are loyal and devoted until the end. Valen knows he's likely no better than the people he's protecting his love from, but they'll have to get through him first, now. Who better to fight the monsters than a monster himself.

────⭒ But understand, Valen is no puppy and he is no gentle-but-abused dog you pick up from the street. He will not be sweet if you give him a treat or two and he won't be rehabilitated. He is far more likely to maul your hand if you try to touch him and he maybe should've been put down a long time ago but he's too mean for anyone to get close to him and can't be captured. If you let him be wild, he will be wild and horrifying.

────⭒ All Valen knows is the kind of loyalty where he's all too willing to kill and die for the singular person he's chosen as his owner. Nobody else can hold his leash and nobody else will have him kneel except for his boy. And he will love him until the very end of time, over and over again, because Valen's made from the dust of a star that burnt too brightly. He won't die any time soon, even though some days he wishes he could for a cause greater than himself.

Valen - Molten Lava

Your heart burned so fiercely that it burnt itself out, leaving horrible scars in its wake; scars inside your chest and on the hands of those who touched you, the hearts of anyone who got close enough to connect to yours. The person you are now is no longer recognizable, burnt up by your own anger and passion and love. The injuries can never be fully erased, but they can be soothed with time and trust and forgiveness.

So, this fits nicely 😭 the part that stings the most is that the entire reason Valen keeps setting fire to his heart is because of just how much he loves. He's not one of those who can never love, or who have sworn off it entirely. Valen wants it so badly, wants to give love and receive it so much that he'd set himself ablaze for just a shred of it back. Valen would kill to be loved the way he loves, little did he realize that it would be him killing parts of himself. He's already done that exact thing in the past - for his father, for a boy named Taryn - and now parts of him are permanently changed. Time won't heal every wound, but now he's got someone that gently takes the lighter away from his hand and tells him that he doesn't need to burn for him.

────⭒ In the sunlight, Valen's eyes look like citrine crystals - a warm, celestial golden colour. His irises look like they've been carved from citrine themselves, absorbing light into them. Valen's eyes are like pools of crystalline honey. Like rays of sunlight got caught within his long, dark lashes and under his heavy lid and brow. Not inviting, but tempting, enticing. The colour of a predators' eyes in nature.

────⭒ But in the dark, Valen's eyes look like moonstones; glinting, iridescent shimmer watching your pulse from the darkness. His tapetum lucidum (his vampire genetics give him this gift) means that he can see in the dark with ease, and that his eyes take on a moonstone-like shine to them when even the smallest amount of light reflects off his blown-wide pupils. But, as lovely and ethereal as his eyes are while they shine at you, that opalescent glint is dangerous, a warning. No human has eyes like that, but hunters do.

────⭒ Valen and his dad, Callen, have always had a tumultuous and toxic relationship. It was Callen who taught Valen how to hunt and kill, taught him that foundation for everything Valen would one day excel at. Callen was prideful. knowing that his own kid was being whittled down into a usable tool or weapon for him. In the syndicate, it was normal to begin preparing kids early for becoming members of the gang. There were no other choices and Valen was no exception. Callen wanted him to become an enforcer, perhaps one day the vice president. He had big plans for his son and anything less than perfection wouldn't do.

────⭒ Valen was too good at what Callen was teaching him. Naturally talented and inherently designed for it, Valen was good at combat and hunting/tracking without much effort. By the age of 17, he was already intimidating; cold, angry eyes and always bruised, bloody knuckles. A one-sided sneer that showed off the tip of his fangs. He was a dark, grumpy thundercloud that could easily back it up and Callen was pleased. He was becoming everything that he'd hoped he'd become. Callen didn't realize until it was too late that maybe he shouldn't have taught him everything.

────⭒ It was Callen who got Valen to make his first real kill when he was 15; an older man who owed the syndicate money and didn't want to pay. Valen stayed awake all night, teary-eyed and angry, and it was the first lesson in learning to compartmentalize the things he'd done. They'd go out hunting together; either for someone who upset the syndicate, or owed money, or even just someone who pissed off Callen. He thought it was a bonding experience but Valen surely began to hate Callen for it, even though it taught him usable skills that, again, he was too good at. Callen didn't know it would come back around to him one day. Them hunting together didn't stop them from trying to kill each other.

────⭒ I think that's one of the things Valen still struggles with today; he hates Callen and everything he did to him, but he's forced to admit, at least to himself, that he learnt valuable things from him. Valen learnt self-control and ruthlessness, how to fight and hunt and track. He learnt how to be the scariest person in a room. Things that become useful down the line, but at what cost? I don't think Valen fully knows yet what it cost him. But he learns, slowly, and that iron ball of anger under his ribs gets a little heavier. How does one reconcile between those things? The damage was also a benefit. I'm not so sure that Valen ever truly will reconcile it, not until he believes he's made up for it somehow.
