Am I blogging from the airport? Yes.

Thinking about Kastor and Haley and drink preferences.

I like my tea bitter, while I think Haley likes it sweet.

Little thing below. I don’t know if it counts as a Drabble but it’s there.

Kastor invites Haley to their place on a fall day. They ask Haley if she wants something to drink, tea perhaps? Haley nods, asking what tea they have. Kastor ruffles through the teabags in the pantry.

“English breakfast or pomegranate?” they ask. Haley selects the fruity one and Kastor sets a kettle on the stove.

The two chat until the kettle whistles, prompting Kas to step aside and collect the porcelain. Their teacups are lovely with a different design on each. The one set in front of Haley has sunflowers and daffodils along the rim. Beside the cup, a sugar cube tray and spoon. Kas sits down across from her, their cup making a soft tinkle against the tabletop— they really ought to get a tablecloth. Haley tentatively takes a sip. It’s good, a little sweet and a tad tart. Just fine for the weather, she thinks. A sugar cube wouldn’t hurt though.

“So, are you more of tea drinker or coffee drinker?” Kas asks.

“You’re asking me this after making the tea?” Haley retorts.

Kas laughs. “I guess I should have thought that through. Though, it probably wouldn’t have mattered anyway,” they say.

Her eyebrows cross. “Why’s that?”

“Well, I only have tea.”

“Then it would have been dumb if you did ask,” Haley smirks.

Over her cup rim, her gaze falls to the steaming tea under Kastor. “Why haven’t you had any of yours?”

Kas glances to their drink and up again. Their mouth crinkles in a sheepish grin. “I uh- I like to let it steep a bit longer than it should. To get all the flavor.”

She looked again at the dark pool in the glass, almost black.

“I like it bitter. More bitter, I guess.” They absentmindedly pull the teabag tag, fishing the bag up just enough before letting it drop back into the depths of the cup. “It should be fine now though,” they say and take their first sip.

“Bitter. I could never drink it bitter,” Haley shakes her head.

“You don’t seem to like it too sweet either though,” Kas comments. The single sugar cube hadn’t melted in her pomegranate tea yet.

Haley looked away in thought. “I liked super sweet drinks in high school. I could just get them in town before coming back to the valley on the bus.”

“Not anymore though?” Kas asks.

Haley takes another sip, letting the tang linger on her tongue a moment. “No, not anymore. Maybe when I visit Zuzu, but since I started baking more I haven’t felt the need for my dessert to be a drink.”

Kas drains their teacup as she speaks. They simply say, “I see,” once she finishes. Haley smiles. They were always a good listener.

“Lately, I’ve been focusing more on the depth of the drink, the richness, whatever you call it,” she says.

“Well I hope your tea fit your tastes. I haven’t tried it before. I’m a stickler for dark tea, though I confess I don’t know if there’s much depth to them,” Kas responds.

The two finish their drinks in silence. Once they finish, Kas takes the cups to the sink. They’ll wash them later. For now, they light the fireplace and cozy up to their girlfriend on the couch.
