She has lead these patrols for the better part of six-hundred years now, and what once was a source of great pride — the chance to do some good for her people — has now tapered into the routine. But, given how close the last group of outsiders had come to finding the entrance into the city ( and had paid for it. that ship was a plaything for the Leviathan, now. ) her father had wanted the patrols made more thorough.

Often tense movements are more relaxed, now that she has split off from the rest of her party. No less dangerous, to be sure, but... by the kings, she has become bored of the routine.

HICCUP & DEMONA : one of my few muses who actually lines up timeline wise !! Demona was very much alive during the time of the vikings, and doesn't exactly hold them in high regard. ( then again... she really doesn't with... anyone ) This could open up an interesting antagonistic relationship.

HICCUP & NISSA REVANE : Nissa is an elven planeswalker who travels across the multiverse, remarkably unbound by timelines. She's extremely awkward, but a bit of a mother goose when you get to know her. Might be a bit skiddish around dragons, but she'll get over it.

HICCUP & TAKHISIS : we've talked about this a little bit in the past, but Takhisis is regarded as the Dragon Queen for a reason. Cold and cruel, she might actually not be too mean to Hiccup, given the way he is with dragons. That being said... that doesn't mean he should trust her. She doesn't have friends or even allies, she has pawns.

"I... feel like that's supposed to be an insult, but considering I'm not trying to be intimidating..." An amused smile curves at Amity's expression, hesitant but warm. She knows she hasn't always been the nicest witch. Or nice... at all. But... intimidating had never really been her goal, just safe. There was a safety in holding people at arm's length.

Thank the Titan she got over that.

Continuing to meet in secret was the safest option. The boy and his dragon would not be welcomed within the city : him, as an outsider, and the beast as... well, a fiction. Surely, there were stories of great beasts in Atlantis' history, but she could not recall ever seeing anything quite like the creature before her. Tenderly, fingers dance over the thick, leather-like hide as she scratches her nails along Toothless' skin.

I've got so many to choose from here... not enough people reading Dragonlance... this messy, messy series...

The series name Dragonlance actually comes from an in-universe weapon, the Spear of Paladine or, more commonly, simply a dragonlance. There are two common varieties, one to be wielded by foot soldiers and the other mounted. The lances are forged from dragonmetal, a rare metal found in Southern Ergoth. In the old days, only those with the knowledge of how to forge one imparted from god, and who was in possession of both the Silver Arm of Ergoth and the Hammer of Kharas could forge a dragonlance.

A mounted dragonlance would measure approximately eighteen feet in length, and be mounted onto a dragon's saddle. A footman's dragonlance would be closer to eight feet.

Perhaps the trickiest part of wielding these legendary artefacts, however, is the element of faith : should the person wielding the dragonlance doubt its powers, there is a high chance it will simply shatter when utilized.

( as a D&D note, a dragonlance is a legendary weapon. you gain a +3 to attack and damage rolls, and when you hit a dragon with the weapon, the dragon will take an extra 3d6 force damage. )

The War of the Lance is named for these weapons. Huma Dragonbane wielded one against Takhisis and wounded her during the Third Dragon War, leading to her retreat from Krynn. It was a broken dragonlance, wielded by Silvanoshei Caladon, that killed the mortal Takhisis at the end of the Age of Mortals.

A breath leaves her lungs in a frustrated huff, but no further argument finds its way to her lips : in truth, the wound she had suffered was hardly worth fussing over. Has her myth been so overwritten, trampled beneath her husband's foot, that those who meet her now forget how she trained alongside VALKYRIES? That she was a warrior first, a wife and mother second?

She does not see pity in the boy's eyes. For that, at least, she could be grateful.

Given that the goddess wasn't entirely certain how serious she took the boy, this was a sad statement indeed. She holds her tongue on that matter, however, offering him little more than a light shake of her head. She was not so cold-hearted, not so cruel that she could show the boy any cruelty.

Similarly to Atreus, the boy is just... a child, a product of the world around him. Whatever hatred she has, it is far older than he, and will no doubt remain long after. What would be the point in treating him with any unearned disdain?

"I have learned that it is unwise to judge anyone without truly knowing their skills. Those who do not regard you seriously shall do so at their own peril." Her hands move through a well-practiced motion, refletching her arrows with a graceful ease. "I suppose I could say the same of you. You are the first in many moons to show me any modicum of respect. HICCUP & PERSEPHONE / SIF : Freya is already pestering Hiccup, so what about the other goddesses? Persephone may be from another pantheon, but she does wander the earth for six months of the year. She's usually quite kind on young godlings, especially ones who've been through the sort of trauma poor Hiccup has. As for Sif... it's hard to say how she would react : she hates seeing children used as weapons, but she's also a bit of a snob... could go either way.

HICCUP & AGNES DRACHINA REUBEN : so, I've thrown Maxi at Hiccup a little bit already, so here's another muse from the same universe. Agnes is a sorceress who embarked on the Dragon Campaign ( a campaign to defeat a red dragon who was threatening the continent. ) I think if she meets someone who actually works with dragons, she would be so sus. Willing to learn and grow! But... sus.
