Born in Avignon, France, Raegan had a turbulent childhood. While her mother was loving and kind, she often had to travel for her work - as did Raegan’s father, meaning she was often with only one parent for extended periods of time or had to be watched by one of her paternal aunts. When he was around, Marcel was not an affectionate man…in fact, he was often physically and verbally abusive to his wife right in front of Raegan and extended the treatment to her as she got older.

Eventually he discovered that Kassady had had an affair and conceived a son with another man. This coupled with his disdain for witchcraft led him to abandon his wife and daughter. So, the two moved back to Kassady’s hometown of Galway, Ireland.

However, times were tough. Her mother’s career as a dragonologist was no longer lucrative enough in the troubling times, and so they again relocated to London.

It was there that Kassady met a tragic, sudden end at the hands of an unidentified serial killer (who many suspected was actually a wizard). A newly orphaned Raegan, upon hearing the news, burned her house to the ground and wound up killing the officer who reported it accidentally.

The emotion was enough to unlock the ancient magic that had been hidden away inside of her, and just days after her mother’s funeral she received her Hogwarts letter. She now lives with her best friend (Diana)’s aunt in Scotland.

They likely would have fired her on her first day for her insubordination, but they can’t deny the fact that she quickly becomes one of the best they have. Really, it’s a case of mutual loathing maintained through an advantageous truce.

Eventually, she does leave of her own accord, and takes up studying ancient history and magical weapon making.

❦ warnings: battle of hogwarts, deaths, angst, blood and injuries, reader being kinda a bookworm and liking jane austen cause she's a queen.

❦ summary: may 2nd, 1998 - the day your story with a certain blonde boy ends.

❦ a/n: me writing a draco one-shot? WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH ME. also this kinda focuses more on the war than the relationship between reader and draco. not my gif.

❦ word count: 2k

when you thought to five minutes back, you would tell yourself how naive you were to think, that everything was going to be okay. it wasn't and you slowly began to realize it.

everything was fine at the beginning; mcgonagall revived some sculptures and almost everyone was casting spells to make the barrier, that was supposed to keep the enemies away, stronger. you felt safe – at least for now.

ginny weasley, luna lovegood, neville longbottom, and a few other wizards were keeping you company. your wand was lifted in the air with your hand tightly holding it until your knuckles were almost white, you kept shooting spells upwards to the barrier.

but moments passed and you could practically feel the barrier geeting weaker and weaker by every spell it got hit by the dark lord's followers. it wasn't going to protect hogwarts much longer and everyone around you seemed to think the same.

and eventually, it turned out you were right.

the barrier began to tore apart. if everyone, who wasn't on voldemort's side would be quiet, you would hear the cheers coming from outside the wall.

after few minutes, most people were fighting a death eater. some hogwarts students were already unconsious on the ground. you weren't sure if they were only passed out or worse – dead, and you didn't want to think about that. this is definitely not how you imagined your friday night. it was supposed to be you, ginny, luna, neville, seamus, dean, patil twins and lavender in a room of equipment, gossiping, talking about things, hiding from the carrows, eating a stolen food from the kitchens . . just enjoying each other's company. the thought of some of them maybe not making this out alive made your heart ache.

you were now dueling an unknown death eater with ginny, who was also fighting a one too, by your side. finally, you managed to hit him with the 'stupefy' spell, sending him backwards, making him hit one of the castle's, which was already slightly ruined as well, walls. you then helped ginny and with combined powers, you two won against him.

you and the ginger girl smiled at each other before you both went the other way. you made your way somewhere, where your legs lead you to, you tried to spot someone in need. as you were glancing around, your eyes suddenly stopped on fenrir greyback, hurting someone.

"hey!" you shouted, sending a spell his way.

he lifted his head at the sound of your shouting and smirked. seemed to be proud of the injury he caused, he ran away, leaving you a clear view of his victim; lavender brown.

tears began to fall down your cheeks as you ran to your friend. after you got on your knees next to her body, you immediately tried to search for a pulse or any other sign she's alive, but you were unsuccessful. not believing it, you quickly casted the first healing charm that came to your mind. when that didn't work, knowing there is no way you can bring a dead person back alive, you let out a painful scream, which caught attention of parvati patil.

you swore you could feel your heart broke when you saw parvati's face at the sight of her girlfriend being now dead. the two of them planned the future after this all would be over. they wanted to move in together after graduation, fancying to get married and perhaps adopting children. they would always say how they and their children would live in some quieter place of england in a muggle world with a dog and a cat. it all sounded so perfect – too perfect to be true.

parvati sobbed as she sat down next to you on her knees. "do you know who–"

"fenrir greyback," you answered, knowing already what question it will be without her finishing it.

your friend leaned closer to her girlfriend and placed a kiss on lavender's forehead. "i'll fight for you, princess."

you couldn't be there any longer. if you were, it would probably end up with a breakdown and that's something you didn't want to have considering the fact you were in a middle of a battle. you had to fight. for lavender and every person lying on the ground.

you gave parvati a quick hug and stood up. before you could go somewhere else, her hand grabbing yours stopped you. confusedly, you turned around to meet her eyes.

"we can't go seperate ways," she said, her eyes were red and puffy. "i want to go with you to protect you when i couldn't do the same to lav. if you die then– i just can't lose you too."

you nodded, not replying, knowing if you did, your voice would break. you two then stuck by each other's side, definitely not planning to leave willingly any time soon.

but then, you turned around, not facing your friend. when you turned back, she wasn't there and you had no idea where she could be.

but you couldn't search for her now as you were dueling a death eater – probably the worst of them; bellatrix lestrange.

your heart was beating faster than you thought was possible. you didn't manage to hit the woman with one spell and thankfully, she didn't either as you were doing a brilliant job of blocking her spells or simply moving.

the sound of her psychopathic laughs filled your ears. it was probably the most horrifying sound you have ever heard.

suddenly, your wand was no longer in your hand, because she was flying to bellatrix's.

you were sure that this was your end.

as if god heard your begs, minerva mcgonagall appeared beside bellatrix. before the lestrange woman could cast the killing curse, the other older woman used 'expeliarmus' to get yours and bellatrix's wand. she then throw it to you and told you to run away that she will take care of that psychopathic bitch.

you thanked her and did as you were told. you began to run but then you accidenticallly turn your ankle in a bad way, causing you to twist it.

you cursed loudly and tried to find a quieter place in this battle, pain shooting through your body with every step you took.

you eventually (and surprisingly) found a quieter place, where you could heal your injury. it was around the corner of the castle so you sat down, letting your back sliding down the wall.

you were about to cast some healing spells, but you realized that in school you have never actually learned about healing spells for a twisted ankle. or if you did, you weren't paying attention so you didn't know anything now.

great.

you weren't sure if you could continue fighting. your ankle hurted way too much and you were exhausted and weak from all the spell casting, running and trying to keep yourself alive.

"y/n?!"

the voice you didn't hear for so long. the voice that belonged to the person you craved and beg to see for months.

you turned to be met by draco's blue-gray eyes that were filled with worry. he immediately got down on his knees next to you. he already had his – or more specifically narcissa's, his mother's – wand in his hand, so before you knew, your leg was fully healed.

without a word, you pulled your boyfriend into a tight hug and he didn't hesitate to wrap his arms around you as well.

but that cute little moment between you two was ruined by you when you began smacking his arm as a lot of insults and sobs left your lips.

"you." smack. "fucking." smack. "dickhead!" smack. "you left me without a word! you completely ignored my letters! you have no idea how much i was worried about you and you just decided to cut me out of your life without any explanation! how dare you, you cockroach?! i am so-"

you hated to be cut off but draco's lips on yours made you forget why were you mad at him. his hands were caressing your face carefully. the kiss was passionate, you could also feel how guilty he felt about what he had done to you.

after you two pulled away from each other, draci leaned his forehead against yours, the tips of your noses almost touching.

"after all this is over, i want to get married, y/n. i want to spend the rest of my life with you and no one else," he breathed out.

you couldn't help but to chuckle. "draco malfoy, there were so many better moments to propose me but you still decide to do it in a middle of a battle when we have no idea if the other will make it out alive?"

he run his fingers through your hair. "don't say that. i'm not gonna let anything happen to you. the death eaters promised me not to hurt you."

you wanted to inform him about his aunt and how she tried to kill you but you didn't get to say anything because of the voice shouting 'diffindo' and the pain that followed second later.

you let out a painful scream and draco watched you in horror. he didn't wait for anything and picked up his wand from the ground. he was about to heal you when the stick flied somewhere behind you, your wand followed after.

you slightly lifted up your t-shirt and your hoodie to see a serious injury. the thin white fabric of your t-shirt was now soaked with your blood at the place of your belly and back. you looked back at draco's – now pale – face. he took off his black jacket and wrapped it around your torso, hoping it will stop the bleeding.

"stay here, okay?" he whispered in panic. "i'm gonna find someone. someone, who will be able to heal you. you're okay. everything is going to be fine."

"don't go," you pleaded as tear was streaming down your cheek. you didn't want him to leave you. what if you'd die earlier than he'd come back? if that happened, you would never be able to say 'goodbye'.

and so he nodded, not wanting you to leave without a proper 'goodbye' as well. he kneeled next to you and you lied down on the ground.

draco blinked, refusing the tears to leave his eyes. he didn't want you to see him like this if he'll be the last thing you see.

you reached out for his hand and squeezed it, letting him know that you're still there.

"i wasn't able to protect you," he croaked. "i'm so sorry, y/n, i'm so sorry. it's my fault."

you smiled sadly. "unless you were the person, who casted that spell on me, it is not your fault. don't blame yourself, dray. look at me, my love." he did as he was told, his blue eyes looking directly at yours. "i want you to live – try to live your life, yeah? i know it may not be easy without me. who will annoy you, heh?" you chuckled and then hissed in pain again. "i believe you'll find someone. but not too soon after my death, you need to grief over me first," you said jokingly, making him let out a breathy laugh.

"i don't think i will ever be with someone else, darling," he admitted. "i imagined myself only and only with you. in a cottage, far away from people. i would teach our kid how to play quidditch and you would tell them about your favorite jane austen books and that mr. darcy was actually a piece of shit."

you chuckled and then whimpered again. "our story is about to end. . . . there's so many things i would like to tell you but i don't have much time. we didn't have enough time."

he looked at you with teary eyes. "i love you. i will always love you."

"i love you too." you bit the inside of your cheek. "just promise me you will stay with me until the very end."

and he did.
