I didn't mean to make you, or anyone sad. And their reborn parts- Navy!Reader and Peach!Reader- get back together again, becoming friends, and fusing again. Even having odd memories of strange people in a foreign world, in colors of the rainbow... If only... if only they knew what those dreams meant. Who those funny-looking people were...

And sometimes... there's something else... someONE else... who visits their dreams. But, they're so... tiny. With a little yellow gem tucked over their heart, who stares at them in such shock. Like they've never seen another person-er, persons- whatever they are, before...

Bonus:

Wolverine (Black Diamond): sighing on his throne I miss my Sapphire... Even their weird little friend... Why did they leave me- leave their own home?

Sabretooth (Orange Diamond): I miss Pearlie, too... And even your weird corundum... Guards, let in the Peridot and their manager

Peridot 5XS enters, giving the diamond salute along with the guards and their manager: Greetings, oh lustrous, amazing, illuminating, shining Black Diamond and Orange Diamond!

Sabretooth (Orange Diamond): rolls his eyes

Peridot 5XS: Oh stunning, wonderful Diamonds, I, Peridot 5XS Cut 350 Facet 9-12, have for Your Lustrousness' eyes and use, Experiment X has their holoscreen light up with information on organics and gems We have found it possible to use unwanted gems, fuse them with organics, and make the newest stage of weaponized soldiers! We won't have anymore need of gem-on-gem fusions, so as not to soil gems superior intellect and forms. As organics are durable against certain weapons such as destabilizers, light distortion, and can adapt to the atmospheres of foreign planets, I fused them with a repurposed gem, one harvested and inserted into the organic, making certain they'll receive the superior intellect, weaponry, and abilities of a gem. What restrictions their organic part has, can be used to further exert control and keep them obedient... Not-Not that they WOULDN'T be obedient! But due to the organic bits being... reliant... on certain stimuli, they require extra discipline and orders

Peridot 5XS: sends the information of the tests and experiments to the Diamonds As you can see, I've made progress with three test subjects, repurposing two of their gems and creating the first one... And the gems withstood every test! Oh, if only they had stayed loyal to your merciful and wonderful selves. It was such a waste of their potential

The Diamonds scroll through the notes, slowly filling with dread...

Wolverine (Black Diamond): These are very... thorough. What gems did you use?

Sabretooth (Orange Diamond): Perhaps they could be of use... Hmmm... You did everything but shatter them

Peridot 5XS: Oh, I'm SO glad you find it useful! The gems I used are of no concern, simply traitors to the Empire. Off-Colors, if you will

Wolverine (Black Diamond): This is an order. Which gems did you use? glares down at them

Peridot 5XS: gulps and quivers J-just a pearl and a sapphire- they were fused, a filthy abomination against the Empire- th-they wouldn't be missed!

The two Diamonds freeze:

Sabretooth (Orange Diamond): Guards. Shatter them

Peridot 5XS: W-w-wait, what?! Please, my Diamonds, have mercy!

Sabreooth (Orange Diamond): Shatter their manager as well, for allowing this to happen

Peridot 5XS: WAIT! PLEASE! M-my Black Diamond! Please, spare me!

Wolverine (Black Diamond): ... shatter them

The room goes still

Wolverine (Black Diamond): WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! I SAID SHATTER THEM!

Peridot 5XS: WAIT, PL- poofed by a guard's spear

Wolverine (Black Diamond): Take them away, and leave us

Sabretooth (Orange Diamond): Nothing we can't try and fix... OLIVE PEARL!

Toad/Todd (Olive Pearl): Y-yes, My Diamond?

Sabretooth (Orange Diamond): Call in Gray Diamond. We need to talk...

(They DO find and rescue Laura/Yellow Diamond, who they find out can't be separated from her gem, as she is only half gem and half human, so they learn to accept her as a product of their blindness, and do their best to take care of her and healing her, while also looking for Sapphire!Reader and Pearl!Reader (who will be called Navy and Peach). Laura can visit them/Nacre in her dreams, and tries to talk with them, not knowing who they are or were. They become buddies, and gossip about the people/gems they know... She slowly pieces together they're the two who the Diamonds talk about, and who they miss. Thus, Laura kinda sends them to Earth, more-or-less saying "Here they are, fix them" and hoping her new sibling is brought back home so she can hang out with them for real)

The results are in for Fusion!Reader's components' colors, and they are:

Sapphire!Reader is a blue sapphire, and Pearl!Reader is a peach pearl!

I think that's kinda perfect, in a way. Cool and warm, cold and hot, ice and fire mixing together to form the perfect temperature and tones. Now, as for shades of their gem color, I'm thinking something like this:

Sapphire!Reader is a velvet-like blue, a swathe of navy and royal, whereas Pearl!Reader is a pale golden peach color, something between pink and orange, not quite one or the other...

(Warning: Mentions of abuse, torture, and possible death/rewrite of characters)

Sapphire!Reader would definitely have a poofy dress at first, with a symbol belonging to a Diamond (for this au, I'm making Logan a Diamond), Black Diamond's symbol, to be exact. Pearl!Reader would be the personal Pearl to Orange Diamond (Victor). Both Sapphire!Reader and Pearl!Reader are broken after being rejected by the two Diamonds, as well as the other pearls and sapphires, not to mention the personal entourage of their Diamonds, and then the entire courts... It's one of the reasons they decided to go where Homeworld hadn't dug their claws in, a little planet far away in a galaxy of untouched planets: Earth...

They (them?)... Their fusion has to pick a name, and what better name than something of immense beauty and perfect luster than... Nacre?

It's a new name, but they're a new gem, and experiencing the wonders of Earth, it's-

Breathtaking.

Inspiring.

Glorious...

This is what the Diamonds, what their courts, what every gem considered ugly? Saw as dirt beneath their feet? This planet is... it's beautiful.

And they're going to do what they can to keep it that way.

Making friends with humans and their civilizations (becoming a deity in some regions), having feasts and dances and lessons (accidentally starting a few cults), building ice sculptures and pressurizing sand into glass, using the particles to sculpt cities on the frozen coasts of tundras (built an entire city into a glacier, as well as making smaller villages on beaches around the different continents). Earth has so much to see! So much to do! And these odd creatures, these "humans", are the key. Are the answer.

Look at how they form families, choosing to love one another and raise new humans and share amongst their communities. The way they try to snuff out disputes, having councils and parliaments and courts, so everyone can have a voice. The food they make, evolving over each century, each eon, new culinary masterpieces and herbs and-! (Earth I Steven Universe might not have had? as many wars or fighting or civil disputes? Plus the contents were a bit weird. And they didn't exactly have, certain states? and countries? So I'm going off of that).

Yet as the decades, centuries, eons pass, they never change. Yet the humans do. They live for barely a blink of an eye in a gem's eye/s, and... It adds a whole new meaning to caring about others. Of showing you love and admire them. Because they won't be there forever, and where they go after their bodies pass, the gems can't follow, can't see... Nacre (Fusion!Reader) does their best to take care of whatever humans they meet, paying visits to many, helping the descendants of some of their first friends on the planet, making new friends with others, helping out those who may need extra hands and future vision...

But all good things can come to an end.

It's only been awhile, about six thousand years... No gems had ever come to Earth... Nacre had lived in peace, always near beaches where they can watch the water, hear the wind and birds, smell the salt and spray. It's on one of those beaches they're poofed.

Waking up, Nacre is- gone. They aren't Nacre at the moment, they're back to Sapphire!Reader and Pearl!Reader, and they're trapped. It looks like a lab, possibly an entire base, and neither one of them can get out from the tube/chamber they're in. Until in walks... a gem?

A gem, one who stares at them with nothing but contempt. Hatred. Who informs them that as they are traitors to the Empire, to the Diamonds, they will not be missed, so are free to be used in their experiments. And so begins the worse decade of their long lives...

Electrical torture until they poof. Testing ice and magma on their gems. Using various gen tools on them, seeing which ones cause the most damage. And that cursed gem is always taking notes, always typing down whatever information they find, muttering about survival rates and organics and how soon they can get off this forsaken rock... One day, it seems they've finally found a final test. One that leaves both Sapphire!Reader and Pearl!Reader scared.

"I've tested everything I could think of on you two clods of mud. From how long you can last until you poof, your withstanding to various elements, the size of your gems, how your light forms react to shards... But I've discovered an odd case- Where a gem can be inserted to an organic. Which makes me rather... curious, what would happen to you. My answers will be logged in and sent to my labs at Homeworld, where I can hopefully show it to the Diamonds one day. It's a shame, really... A Sapphire, running away with a Pearl? HAH! You served the Diamonds directly, yet not even their brilliant, pure light could burn out your disgusting flaws. Well... Perhaps, this will..."

In a flash of light, there's a rejuvenator, and just as fast-

They're gone, poofed into their gems.

And the mad scientist of a gem pulls up the needed formulas and organic matter they need to begin. Honestly, who would have thought one could bond a gem... to an organic vessel? It's almost pebble's play, using the humans bits of DNA to make a small host, nothing more than a small being fit to become a servant to the Homeworld Empire... They even made a gem/organic hybrid before this, kept locked in their private lab back on Homeworld, a creature that they tried giving powers to, forming an imperfect replication of a Diamond (they shudder to think of how blasphemous it was, to do such a thing. But a possible pawn, any new asset to the Empire, is too good to pass up... Even if it's an... imperfect being...)

Soon, after months of incubating the small squishy earthlings, they get to insert the gems of those two traitorous gems into them... And finally... it's done. Their work, their newest creations, done. With the rejuvenation of their gems, thst hopefully got rid of any residual flaws, while with the organic bodies, they're controllable and easy to discipline... If only they weren't so... loud. Why do small oragnics scream so much? The wailing? The need to be warm at all costs? Constant nutrients (because they'd die without it)? It's tedious...

Preparing to go home, they soon find a call from Homeworld, their manager having sent them a message, to call off the project, lest the Diamonds shatter them if they found out... And suddenly- it seems like another project scrapped. Wasted. This was a revelation! A scientific breakthrough! And they had to cancel it?! But... they don't want to scrap these two potential pawns...

"Yes, my Demantoid. Peridot 5XS signing out," they reply, and then they leave the two subjects near a human dwelling... That should suffice, the creatures feed the weaknesses of others. So, if they're lucky, the other earthlings will keep their two newest subjects alive... Hopefully the two will still be alive when they return... They're not done with them yet...

(Surprise, the other gem/human is Laura! Because what better way to introduce her, and have the X-Men and Brotherhood gems learn that fusions are gems, too, and are worthy of respect?)

I had an idea! (Again)...

What if I do A Fusion!Reader AU as one of my Steven Universe AUs?

Maybe that's the reason Reader left Homeworld. As a fusion, whether it's of two diamonds, or a pearl and sapphire, or a jasper and lapis, or whoever they're made up of, they were scared of being rejected (h*ck, maybe they WERE), so they left Homeworld and their whole life/lives behind, so they could be them.

Their fusion, whatever it is, is platonic. Maybe it's unconventional, for their relationship/situationship to even exist or be or to be thought of, but... This, is them. Their two parts together found something together, and that something is them. And if others can't accept that, then... maybe they should be themself on their own.

(This fusion, seeing as it is platonic/aromantic/asexual, I see it as either two aspects of a Reader being the Reader themself, or a Reader's OCs together, or even right brain/left brain of Reader coming together. It could also be read as two Reader's being together, platonically, if that's how y'all want to do it...)

So... What two gems make up Reader? And what is their fusion name/gem?

(I think Pearl!Reader is the sort of gem others trust. (They're a Pearl, and Pearls are believed to be obedient and loyal, so no one suspects them if there's an accident or problem). At first, they blindly did what they were told, following every suggestion and order given, never swerving in their duty or task. But, over the years, they figure out that they aren't so perfect. Aren't as blind to things as everyone else is. They feel like they can see things in a way others simply don't, whether by ignorance or denial or disinterest. The world around them, with their higher-ups and companions (their own family, their own given cluster), just... ignores them. They don't appreciate them. They may give praise, but never a lot, and not ever enough. It's like- they don't think of Pearl!Reader as anything more than a cog in the machine. Expendable. One of a million. Replaceable. Pearl!Reader grows a little from that, becoming less open and naive and more cynical. Sarcastic. Jaded. If they aren't worth much to anyone, then why keep up anything beyond their designated purpose? No more pretending, or lying, or hiding their thoughts. They do their job, whatever job they're given, but that's it. They feel like no one will ever see them as a living being, as their own gem, as lovable... Until they meet THEM-

A Sapphire.

A gem who they can see past, who uses masks and lies to hide behind, someone who feels just as trapped as they did. And Pearl!Reader, for the first time in a long time, feels compassion for someone. Empathy. A need to help. So they approach Sapphire!Reader, trying to alleviate the immense pressure cracking down on them- And sure enough, behind the perfect mask and persona, their is a gem who listens to them, who regards them as funny, who sees them and finds them worth being around. Worth knowing. Worth loving. And Pearl!Reader slowly falls (platonically) in love with Sapphire!Reader, the gem who notices them and chooses them.

How could Pearl!Reader resist them?

That feeling of lightness?

Of pure joy and laughter?

The feeling of love?

It doesn't take too much longer for them to visit Sapphire!Reader whenever they can, opting to hang out with them over their own companions and court (they left their cluster, their family, waiting for once, instead of the other way around). Being with Sapphire!Reader makes them feel alive and present, aware of more beauty and understanding and acceptance than they've ever felt from anyone... It's not surprise that after a short time, they fuse-

And they're...

Complete.

As this being, as this new, whole self, their TRUE self, they feel like laughing. Like crying. Like singing and not stopping. This is... Magic. Enchanting. Loving. And they wouldn't trade it for the entire star system.

When they're found one day by their companions, the other gems recoil in disgust. They see them, and they say they're ugly. Tainted. Monstrous. And suddenly-

They're falling apart all over again.

The utter rejection they feel, the pain, the misery-

It makes them want to turn to dust.

But that depression soon turns to contempt, soon turns to determination.

Maybe their own companions and court and higher-ups won't accept them, their true self, their pure self, nor will Sapphire's... But who said they needed them?

When they go to search for Sapphire!Reader, they find them in the middle of looking for them. Together, they form a plan, a way to be them and be safe and never have to come back to this world of burning light and discordant gems. And in a twirl of light and colors-

They're back.

And on this ship, they have a new destination-

A little planet called: Earth...

(Special note: Pearl!Reader was with/was family/was cluster/ed with the Brotherhood gems, while Sapphire!Reader was part of/clustered with the X-Men gems)

(I think Sapphire!Reader would be a Gem who gets away with things. (Seeing the future and/or past certainly helps). They love gossip, beautiful clothes, and the finer things in life. But... they wish they didn't have to be so... fake. With others, they feel like they're always wearing a mask, hiding any "flaws" or "cracks" so all anyone sees is what they WANT to see. Sapphire!Reader feels drained. If they didn't have their crafted masks, their false fronts... would their friends, their higher-ups, their companions (their family/their cluster) still actually care about them? Or would they only care for the mask they've made of themself? It drives Sapphire!Reader to contemplating possible shattering, or poofing themself because of their inner turmoil and doubts... But then... they meet THEM-

A Pearl.

And suddenly-

Their masks aren't wanted. Aren't accepted. This Pearl!Reader, who is elegant without trying, just- They want the real Sapphire!Reader. Not a false one, not some mask, not the perfect poised doll, but THEM, their TRUE self, their true LIGHT. And for once, in a long, long time, Sapphire!Reader feels-

Seen.

Heard.

Loved.

And they can't help but (platonically) fall for Pearl!Reader, a gem who wants the truth, who is curious, sometimes naive yet still wise, someone who finds the rainbow in light and finds the rainbow, in all its mixed colors and fractured waves so against the Empire, against Homeworld, beautiful and opulent and worthy of notice. How can Sapphire!Reader not love this gem, so real and warm and vibrant, as their closest confidant, their muse, their friend?

And Pearl!Reader loves them, too.

When they fuse for the first time, it's-

They're new.

They're whole.

And the love they feel, the love they are, is enough. They're enough, this mix of Sapphire and Pearl. And they're wonderful, just the way they are.

But...

Neither of their companions or higher-ups or courts (their own family, their own cluster) approve. They look at them, and demand they separate. They call their fusion an abomination. Unnatural. Unmoral. And their gems, their cores-

It feels like they shatter into a thousand pieces.

They try to be what they want them to be, but-

Sapphire!Reader can't do it anymore.

They want to be loved, and be themself, and their self is whole when they're with Pearl!Reader. And if their companions can't accept that... Then they can't stay.

When they sneak off with Pearl!Reader, they feel- bad, but better. Stronger. They're together, and when they fuse-

Back into a being that is THEM, both of them yet neither but someone NEW, someone made of LOVE and ACCEPTANCE-

They decide they can be themself, together, without anyone else. And just like that, they board a small ship, as their true self, and head for a new galaxy, one at the edge of the Empire, a little planet of rock and dirt and water called-

Earth...

(Special note: Sapphire!Reader was with/was family/clustered with the X-Men gems, while Pearl!Reader was with/part of the Brotherhood gems)

(I love the idea of Reader being made up of their two best parts, who love each other enoughtl to risk everything to be themself. They've never felt this complete on their own, as just one component, and being together, they feel... alive. They, for once, feel good about themself, about who they are. They're the best of friends, the two (platonic) partners in crime, rivals turned QPRs, you name it, they're them, and it feels AMAZING! Even if they end up rejuvenated, or shattered, or even part human or an experiment on Earth, they'll always come back together... And the platonic yans, after losing them the first time due to their own fears and prejudice, won't make the same mistake again this time... A few might have even made a fusion themselves, after all that time...)
