ALL OF MEDICINE IS BUT A PRECISE AND CAREFUL APPLICATION OF POISON.

SANCTUS CRYSTALLUM  || CRYO || POLEARM
Beryl is a creature person that comes from a place near the Dark Sea or perhaps somewhere within it. If one were to ask, she hardly has a grasp on what one means. Her home is her home and as far as she’s concerned, there’s nothing more to it. But it seems being in such close proximity to the Dark Sea has unintended consequences of its own. Old and fallen gods have laid claim to her, digging divine claws into mortal flesh, whispering into her ears. She still hears the cacophony of voices, still sees the puzzling visions, the unbearable weight of the ruined gods and their many grudges.
Eventually, the voices become unbearable, uttering insanities to her very soul. They would make an impure Saint of her, a mortal divinity to destroy in their name. But Beryl isn’t interested in such things. Yet the voices grow more unbearable day by day, hour by hour. Perhaps distance will be enough to make such voices a little quieter, so she ventures into the domain of The Seven.
Beryl also seems to have a rather strange affliction, her blood and various soft tissue compromised by crystal that seems to be parasitic in nature. Perhaps such a condition is a result of having lived near the Dark Sea or perhaps it is simply a part of her nature.
She presents herself as a botanist, though she has a lesser known penchant for poisons. Often gathering herbs, distilling any number of curative or injurious tinctures, and then testing such mixtures on herself. There’s something clearly faulty with her mental state, given given that she imbibes even deadly poisons without much thought, often without preparing the antidote in advance. Yet somehow, her poisons do not kill her. It seems to be an effect of the unique properties of her blood that allows her to suffer, yet not die.
She’s often out gathering materials, whether it’s herbs or some other sort of strange matter, traversing the lands in a languid, almost lackadaisical manner.  Yet no matter how far Beryl travels, the voices and visions have yet to cease.

THE LAWS THAT RULE ME DIFFER FROM THE ONES THAT RULE YOU.
Tumblr media
IMAGINARY || ABUNDANCE
Beryl is something of an enigma. She is a being with no verifiable connections with others, no way to definitely validate the facts of her accounts. Everything about her seems to be unknown or utterly unverifiable. In truth, she comes from a planet whose existence is dubious at best, but she knows of the terrible and tragic fate that took place, remaining as the only witness, the living testament.
The people of her planet had been enchanted by a Stellaron. Beryl is able to hear the Stellaron and the people of her world, convinced the Stellaron is something of a divine entity, christened her a Saint due to this connection. It is also due to this connection that the state of her mind is in a questionable state, fractured and markedly unstable due to the Stellaron’s influence. Her hold on reality and perception of the world are as dubious as her origins: firmly planted in something real, yet unverifiable.
Perhaps the corruption the Stellaron wrought upon her caused her to glimpse something greater or perhaps it is simply the delusions conjured from an already broken mind. In many ways, she is little more than a beast herself, merely doing as she pleases because she can. However if it is a beast she be, at least Beryl is one that seems primarily interested in peace, even if she’s already lent herself to the depths of horror, becoming a tool for the unspeakable.
As to what happened to her home world and why she strayed from it? One might find the truth after listening long enough to the scriptures of insanity she spills. After all, she can still hear the Stellaron whisper to her, even now.

TO SURVIVE, YOU, TOO, WOULD SACRIFICE.
Tumblr media
SINNER || LIMBO || ARCANE
Beryl is known as the Saintess, so how could it be that she is a Sinner? But she supposes the profane and the divine have always come hand in hand. And no great miracle has ever been wrought without a great cost.
Perhaps that great cost is something in her blood, the strange crystallization that her body undergoes even now. All she had wanted was a miracle for herself, salvation for the Saint, a way to rid herself of such accursed blood. To do that, she must know more. So why not make miracles for others as a way to pass time? She wanders between Eastside and Syndicate, curing any ailment for those that seek her–at the cost of the patient’s life.
It’s an acceptable loss, a necessary cost, as every death brings her closer to understanding, closer to being able to rid herself of the ailment that will surely end her life. But due to the high number of casualties, it became a priority to detain her. And that’s how the MBCC acquired the so-called Saint.
Ability Summary:
Blood crystallizes within and outside of the body, both autonomously and at will. Blood crystallization results in healing effects that will eventually result in taking the subject's life. Only the Sinner (and other Sinners) is immune to this effect, suggesting that the tolerance for the healing effects to occur without inducing death remains in a narrow therapeutic range based on M-value.

I WILL STILL SEEK SALVATION EVEN IF ALL THAT REMAINS IS DAMNATION.
Tumblr media
SAINTESS || GODHUNTER
Beryl wanders the world as little more than a marionette to the whims of the divine, ever prepared to be a sacrifice. Her life has never been her own, living as the Saint. She finds familiarity in the sword, begins her divine Crusade, but all that bloodshed could not quench the aching in her heart. Eventually she comes to know the truth of the world and in her desperation to bring salvation, finds a way to transcend time itself. In a desperate gamble to save her world, she encases herself in crystal forged of her own cursed blood to outlast the god that’s condemned her world. Beryl awakens after the end, walking the lonely planet and with vengeance in her heart, begins another Crusade.
This time, she raises her blade against the divine. She will regain all the blessings to bring salvation and restore her world. It matters little to her where her god hunting will lead her. It only matters that she fulfills this self-imposed duty.
