Race: ( illegitimate )oni - ogre demon

Rebirth: ( hakuouki references ahead ) during one of the many battles fought alongside the shinsengumi during the period of the Satchō Alliance, hijikata toshizo suffered severe losses among his division and separated from his men, suffered grave injuries from his refusal to retreat. desperate to stand his ground and unwilling to suffer another defeat by enemy hands, the vice-commander ingested a crimson vial. drawn to its promise of vitality and strength in order to not just endure, but claim victory. this concoction however, would prove to plague him for the remainder of his days. 

no longer human, the concoction had consisted of the concentrated blood of an unknown oni. it gifted him with the strength to continue living past the defeat of ezo, but came with the heavy burden of life. unable to forgive himself of his own survival in the face of his known comrades’ deaths, and his mortal blood weak to the demonic pounding within. he possesses fits of hunger, cravings beyond imagining that he knows not how to quench. 

Appearance: during such fits of uncontrollable hunger, his raven hair turns pale as moonlight. eyes glimmer like pools of gold, pupils predatory and feline in shape. a small set of horns protrudes from the flesh of his forehead, and canines sharpen into flesh-tearing edges.
