an effortless laugh follows her ridiculous alternative to the truth, head shaking slowly as a smirk plasters on his lips. they've been playing this silly game for a while, sending each other on dates that are either terrible or never follow through. it was an interesting dynamic, to say the least. “ no need for sorrows. i'm sure i'll catch one someday. ” austin claims, blase about the whole thing. “ y'know, that actually reminds me... how did that lunch go with my buddy? he ever text you after? ”

"maybe they're a franchise." hannah's own suggestion makes her grin because she just knows there's no way that's the possible. "oh well..." she breathes out a sigh, clapping her hands together. "guess that means it wasn't meant to be. damn." she only manages to sound slightly disappointed, even her best attempt at acting definitely misses the mark. "there's plenty more fish in the see."

“and she just didn’t show up? wow. that’s wild... want me to say something?” after all, hannah had been the one to 'set them up'... and given their date the wrong location.

“ i KNOW i'm full of it — i fucking earned it too. ” reaches for his ( fourth ) half empty glass, liquid courage giving him the fuel to deliver another blow. “ what have you done with your life, huh ? ” finds it easier to push her away than to let her in, but resolve begins to falter as he notices the expression on her bewitching features. “ a quick google search will tell you i have a habit of kissing beautiful women. that's all. ” austin lies through his teeth, convincingly so.

" someone like you ? right. " scoff tumbles past her lips. " you're so fucking full of it. " someone like her. no amount of insults could quell the ache that settles in her chest. " it wasn't just a kiss and you know it. " tries to maintain a strong stance despite the tears that well up in her eyes.

austin attempts to read through her facade, but her demeanor was so composed ... which was enough of a clue, in and of itself. she was trying too hard to seem innocent. and he loved it. “ right ... there must be another restaurant called 'the catbird seat' somewhere 'round nashville. ” ventures sarcastically, nodding his head in amusement as he took a few steps toward hannah. “ we couldn't rain check, sadly. she was only in town for a couple days — as i'm sure you know. ”

"oh..." shit. hannah does her best to refrain from letting her expression change, trying to keep it neutral so he doesn't see right through her. "that's so... unusual! perhaps a venue with a similar name? or, you know how some places have multiple locations. an easy mistake, i'm sure. did you rearrange?"
