FINGERS CURL AROUND HIS CHIN, the heard proposal for his services weighing upon his mind. it was an interesting one, he can admit, nothing in the likes which he's ever done prior, come to think. only there were a few misgivings on the whole thing -- not of the supposed clients, but rather... ❝ I'm not against the idea of working with the two of your as clients. It's just, ❞ he cuts off, trying to figure the best way to phrase it, not wishing to insult him, either.
one heavy sigh is offered, kaveh finally coming to a conclusion it was best to say it outright than make lyney wait too long. ❝ It isn't any of my business how you conduct yourselves, of course. Nor am I going to tell you how to. But when it comes to things as these... I suppose it's akin to a tavern but on a grander scale. It puts a lot of power in the hands of those behind the scenes with gambling. While I have met with you, I have not with your co-founder, so I don't know if I can trust him as I could you, ❞ he finally speaks, figuring the other would understand that it means he only works with those he can find trust in, especially when collaborating between each other.
❝ Nor do I don't want my name connected with anything that might bring misgivings to my newly forming reputation here or give the wrong idea simply because I took on the project. Surely you understand, yes? ❞

HEARING THE REASSURANCE FROM HIM, there's a relief that it would hardly be a headache this time, some semblance of understanding that trust is a mutual gain for both. though when the magician sings of his praises, he cannot help but wonder how far his reputation has made it beyond the borders of sumeru, not unless it was from the view of one more studied in modern sumeru figures, being nowhere close in the hierarchy of those sages and, even more, alhaitham's role in everything. nor was he any less important, knowing his reputation was well earned, but still...
❝ If it's for a stage with you, then I'm agreeable to doing it, ❞ he nods, feeling at ease to do with that much. though regarding the other commentary... ❝ But if it cannot be certain that something else won't happen, then unfortunately I won't be able to agree to helping in the other areas. At least not unless Mr. Huey can reassure me of his own intentions. Trust is very important to me, so perhaps there can be a meeting between us once the stage is done. ❞
for the better of his own conscious and, in turn, overall. the thought alone of leaving out his name, whether to obscure any association or otherwise, sits ill with the architect, especially one who is so proud of the crafts he breathes so much life to for all to see. ❝ I appreciate the consideration and know it is hardly your intent, but my name being left out for any reason... ❞ he would feel nothing but an overwhelming sense of guilt for what may possibly come to be despite his own lack of knowing, given lyney's words of uncertainty about anything that may.
❝ Now, for the stage. What is it that you had in mind? I'm aware you're a magician of great talent, so it would likely need material that can weather any element you might make use of to draw in the audience. Fire-resistant and capable of withstanding water without risk of molding, for a start... but what about the design itself? ❞
Having finally gotten an audience with the famed architect of Sumeru, Lyney was happy and had planned out an extravagant brunch as an attempt to make the other man comfortable.
"Of course, of course." He practically coos, smiling warmly. "For the most part, I mostly manage the stage, mind you. Monsieur Huey manages paperwork and hiring people and other boring business things like that. And the stage is what I would appreciate you working on first. I've not had an official one since arriving!"
Truly, it was a tragedy. Having to perform on the street was fine, it helped him reach out and gain an audience, but a stage would help him gain money faster.
"Still, when the manager asked me if I could think of anyone for any jobs around the building for us before we open, I immediately thought of the Light of Kshahrewar, architect of the Palace of Alcazarzaray. It simply had to be you. I've been saving dust to pay for the commission price up front, but I assure you, as a Fontainian, honesty and justice is what I abide by. Should anything happen, and it might, I make no promises that anything foul could happen, after all, I can't predict the future, I'll make sure to leave your name out. I don't know what I can do to assure you, but I will do my utmost. This will be a steady job, as well. Once the stage is done, there's other areas that could use an expert's touch."
