the abyss turns your hair white with excessive use or because of how strong it runs through your system .

pierro originally had dark blue hair , almost black . but because he's been drawing power from the abyss for over a thousand years , his hair eventually turned white .

dainsleif had dark brown hair and is slowly lightening up over the years . at the moment it's blonde , but over time , it will also become white

kaeya has the first signs of abyss taking over his blood with the light blue streak in his hair . the rest of his hair will soon follow and become the same light blue until it turns white .

a chuckle escapes their lips , azure gaze landing on the redhead before down at his own apparel .

“ now , now , let's not be too hasty . this costume here ? belonged to my grandfather who was a pirate . i'm only honoring him . ” they slide closer to leo , smirk tugging at their lips .

“ besides , if i stay a ~ pirate ~ , that means i can make you my first mate . ” they purr .

the abyss isn’t meant for outsiders / non-khaenrians & indulging in it will have irrevocable consequences . those from khaenri’ah , while still struggling with it , are more tolerable of it compared to those foreign to it . the lasting affects take time to kick in with khaenrians , whereas foreigners suffer immensely from it . dainsleif is a special case , as he’s been cursed for failing . but pierro & kaeya are more mentally affected by the abyss . the physical changes came in later .  this all explains why tartaglia seems soulless / has dark , bottomless eyes . he was a foreigner to the abyss , & it had done irreversible damage to him , his psyche & his body . the more he draws on the abyss for power ( foul legacy mode ) , the more strain & harm it does to him .

also , some more pierro and kaeya headcanons . a lot of these will sound familiar because both me and @praeniiteo worked together on fleshing them out

i do follow the widely accepted headcanon that pierro is kaeya's father

kaeya does indeed carry abyss magic in his blood , although dormant .

pierro was a king of their former land , thus making kaeya a prince .

the delusion was planted for crepus to find , knowing it would drive a wedge between kaeya and diluc ( in this , pierro was hoping the tragedy would be enough to awaken kaeya and have him complete their goals as their only hope )

kaeya doesn't have many memories of his father , but they're all unpleasant in the ones he does remember

kaeya is nonbinary , and the reasoning behind this is because gender is meaningless where he's from . no one really cares there , so gender concepts are just . not really a thing . therefore , kaeya doesn't really feel connected to one . he'll use he and they pronouns but he doesn't care either way . he does occasionally struggle with himself and his disconnect with his identity , especially considering who and what he is , but most of the time , he just goes with the flow .

obvious but the abyss order's language hails from khaenri'ah . however , so does the language of the hilichurls . that being said , kaeya can speak and understand " both " languages . he simply hides the knowledge to keep himself under the radar .

kaeya being the last hope but in a way that pierro and those from khaenri'ah didn't expect . they expect destruction and war , and for kaeya to lead it / be the catalyst . in reality , he's the purification , the savior , the healing . something in his blood grants him the ability to purify those infected from the abyss . the only reason he can't and why the abyss is fighting him is because of pierro's control . even if they're separated at the moment , pierro still has kaeya under his thumb . but once he as a threat is eliminated , kaeya can save his nation , restore his kingdom , heal his people .

clings to the headcanon that birthdays aren't celebrated in khaenri'ah , so kaeya didn't celebrate his first few ones until he was dumped in mondstadt with the rag fam . him having his birthdays with them and always associating the day with happy memories until it all went to hell . now , he ignores his birthdays and while he accepts gifts and wishes with grace , it's just a very bitter day for him .
