ooc; Tibarn return
You know what time it is, besties.
Tumblr media
Yeah, it's time for Tibarn to continue vibe checking all my other delusions. Anyway, he's back after a brief return to Tellius to take care of some matters back home. If I've learned my lesson (we'll see), my muse lineup will likely stick, at least for a longer while.
While I will no doubt grab a few new threads, he had some at the time of dropping that have potential to be picked back up - specifically threads that did not get far enough for my partner to claim upon his leave, some of them with skill points attached. If you'd be interested in reviving the thread, please let me know. If you'd rather not, that's 100% chill with me of course! I just want to know where I stand before I load him up on new interactions.
The threads in question are:
In the Name of the Goddess, Square Up (with Rhea @aurheatum, +1 Gauntlet) - my turn
A Flower, For You (with Leanne @allegreta) - Leanne's turn
King to King Communication (with Diamant @heriteur) - my turn
Defrosting (with Elincia @amitieos, +1 Flying) - Elincia's turn
Bonding?? Exercise?? (with Rafal @rafent) - my turn
Vibe Check Failed (with F!Byleth @ashenprofessor, Gauntlet +1) - my turn
Fear the Deer (with Sakura @gentlenekomata, Bow +1) - Sakura's turn

WHAT MAKES A PERSONALITY
A template for analyzing features of a personality beyond listing adjectives.
Tumblr media
SELF-CONCEPT
View of Self: A king responsible for the safety and prosperity of his people. Beneath the tough exterior of the savage and unforgiving warrior who brings retribution and doom to his and his subjects’ enemies, lies a caring leader who will go to great lengths to ensure the well-being and comfort of those he cares for and would readily lay down his life for them.
View of Others: Ranges widely and changes at the drop of a hat depending on their actions. Starts with cherished friends and trusted allies, and ends with scumbags he wishes he could kill more than just once. Tibarn takes a while to begin trusting new people he meets. He wants to, but he has been burned several times, and he has seen the full extent of both beorc and laguz cruelty. However, once shown that someone is worthy of his trust, he only sees it fit to repay it, becoming a faithful ally who stands by them until the end.
View of World: A curious place that seems to only grow larger as he continues to discover new skies. In his own words, the world should be “noisy, vibrant and chaotic”; it’s filled with creatures big and small of various species and properties, and they should all have the right to existence, so long as they don’t threaten the existence of others. With Hawks generally leading carefree lives of flying and hunting, I believe Tibarn to be pretty in tune with the concept of a circle of life, and imagine he doesn’t like seeing it disrupted.
Motivations & Goals: Lead his people well and protect them. Save their Heron brethren from complete annihilation. Protect the laguz, their rights and their freedom, both through warfare and at a diplomatic table.
What they Value Most: Loyalty, honesty, honor, sticking to one’s ideals.
EMOTIONAL REACTIONS
Reaction to Stress: In front of others, Tibarn cannot show weakness. I do believe he genuinely does not get stressed or nervous easily, and even when he does, he does not allow it to get the better of him (see also: burning of Phoenicis). Instead he remains focused, serving his role as the pillar of stability that his men can flock around in a moment of doubt. It will affect him later and he will probably need someone like Reyson to help him get it out, because otherwise he just strangles it all inside him - but no matter what, he will not show it in front of everyone.
Reaction to Fear: Pretty much same as above. Fear is an emotion Tibarn does not feel often honestly, the main situations I can think of where he would have felt it were Leanne’s kidnapping by the Black Knight and, again, the burning of Phoenicis, specifically when he first got the news - and his response would be the same as to stress, except he would also react with anger and swear vengeance. Tibarn never really fears for himself - only ever for others.
Reaction to Success: Pretty standard, I’d say. Joy and satisfaction, naturally. May boast a little, but means it in a good-natured way. Will encourage his allies to look on the bright side of things and enjoy the success they’ve achieved before thinking again about whatever doom and gloom still hands above their head.
Reaction to Failure: Remains focused and tries to keep his people calm and under control. Always looks for ways out, ones that don’t necessarily have to involve him making it out. Thinks about the safety of others long before his own - in a situation such as a lost battle, would be ready and willing to risk himself to ensure that his people and his allies make it out safely.
DEVELOPMENT
Ideal Self: Above all else, a strong king who is able to achieve anything that his people need him to achieve, and never fails them again.
Areas of Growth: Moving past his distrust. Forgiving himself for previous failings. Learning to let go of past grudges more easily, instead of allowing them to direct his actions for years or decades. Continuing to develop both combat and diplomacy skills. Maybe if possible becoming less weak to crossbows because god damn that 50 damage to the face is a BITCH—
Barriers to Growth: Stubbornness and vindictiveness. Inability or at least struggling to let go of things. Also while he thinks before he jumps into things, he is also headstrong and impatient and sometimes it shows.

ooc; Tibarn's wanted plots
Here are a few mission prompts I'm interested in taking with Tibarn.
Gauntlet +1 - my twist on the prompt is that, upon getting the slightest suspicion, Tibarn will shift. Your muse is welcome to think they are being assaulted by a monster in the steam. For his part, there is going to come a moment where he will simply be amused and won't try too hard to correct you until you realize yourself.
Authority +1 - I freely admit I know nothing about Ace Attorney, which I know was the inspiration for the prompt, but I'd be interested in taking it up with the idea of Tibarn playing something of an advisory role, perhaps. He's a king and all, and one who has dealt with plenty of injustice towards his people. He can get into interesting debates on what is or isn't just and right. He'll play along with the court play if your muse so desires.
Flying +1 - who's ready for some flying lessons? Tibarn is taking the baby wyverns to the skies and your muse is welcome to join, flying either on his back or on one of the hatchlings. We can chat about both flying mounts and flying just in general in the meantime! (taken: Caeda)
If you'd like to thread with him outside of the mission board, he's also open for interactions, simply let me know! Tellius muses especially. Come closer (grabs you)
DM me on Discord or ping me in #plotting if you're interested!

🌈 RAINBOW - what advice would they give to their younger self?
OC emoji asks |accepting
lmaooo that's a bit of a funny one. I feel like today's Tibarn would have told younger Tibarn to try and be a little more open towards the beorc, because there really are good beorc out there. At the same time, though, he is also fully aware that younger him simply wouldn't listen.
If we were to talk about younger Tibarn in the sense of a lot younger, before he became the King of Hawks, he would have advised him to enjoy his peace and freedom for as long as he can. Firstly, he is lucky to have it in the first place, and secondly, it gets worse. And he wouldn't just mean the wars and tragedies that are ahead of him... but also the unfortunate realities of being a king such as politics and paperwork. Ugh.

🌙 MOON - what is your oc's greatest wish? how far are they willing to go for it?
OC emoji asks | accepting
Ohhhh baby.
Tibarn, I feel, has less wishes and more regrets these days, unfortunately. Post-Radiant Dawn, whatever he could wish for has more or less been achieved; Tellius is at peace, the relations between Hawks and Ravens have settled down, and the ones between beorc and laguz, too, have begun to improve - something that, twenty-some years ago, he did not even think of at all, deeming it both impossible and - given how deep his hatred of the lagus was back then - probably flat out unnecessary.
His greatest wish would probably be to go back to the past, and be there on time to prevent both the Serenes Massacre and the burning of Phoenicis by the Ravens. Perhaps, had he just been in the right place when it mattered, so many bad things would not have happened. It's not something that Tibarn speaks openly to to many people - the main ones he'd be honest to about it would be Janaff, Ulki and the Herons, from whom he cannot hide it anyway - but these are failures that sit deeply in his conscience, and he struggles to let go of them no matter how hard he tries and how much time passes.
In terms of the lengths he will go to in order to see his wishes fulfilled, well... back when they consisted of making Begnion pay for their crimes against the laguz, he both engaged in piracy for twenty years and also went to a whole war, so yeah! I'd say he is willing to go pretty far for them.

🍃 FALLING LEAF - do they enjoy being in nature? what is their favourite outdoor activity?
OC emoji asks | accepting
Oh, absolutely! Tibarn hates being holed up indoors. The open sky stretching above endless blue seas, the forests, the mountains - that's where he truly belongs, as do all Hawks. Both he and almost if not all of his men will spend whole days outside if they can; heck, given what we know about what both Phoenicis and Kilvas look like, the bird laguz don't even build proper houses the way humans do - which naturally makes perfect sense - and even Phoenicis Hall, which for all intents and purposes is a proper castle, gives the impression of a building with large open spaces, balconies and windows that a Hawk can simply jump out of in order to leave.
Tumblr media
Tibarn does not find himself with a lot of free time on his hands, to be honest. Before and during the first half of Path of Radiance, most of the time he didn't spend handling whatever politics he had to deal with was spent raiding Begnion ships in revenge for the Serenes Massacre. Then between PoR and Radiant Dawn, he probably had a lot of work monitoring both the unsteady situation on the mainland and the suspicious activity of Kilvas.
But when he can actually enjoy free time and the ability to do what he wants, Tibarn tends to simply go out for long flights beneath a sunny sky, catch a fish or two - or a whole deer if he's very hungry, why not - and simply appreciate the freedom of a Hawk.

🍀 CLOVER - do they believe in luck? are they lucky?
OC emoji asks | accepting
Well, to quote the man himself,
Tumblr media
Yeah haha. No, not really. Luck is neat when it happens to you, he supposes, but it shouldn't be the only thing you count on to get through your next battle. It's not going to keep you alive in the long run and it's absolutely not going to save your people and those you cherish. You have to actively try to get things done on your own.
Tibarn probably would admit that he likely has had some luck here and there in his life, but overall, he prefers to get what he needs with his own strength, as well as that of his men and allies if applicable. It's how the laguz function in general for the most part - if you want something, you work or fight for it, and he too is an embodiment of this way of thinking.

🍁 MAPLE LEAF - what is their favourite season? why?
OC emoji asks | accepting
If Tibarn has one favorite season, it's going to be summer. Phoenicis enjoys a climate comparable to Mediterranean for our standards, and that would be the weather that he is accustomed to the most. The long, warm, sunny days are perfect for long flights out in the open sky, hunting and fishing trips, and then a nice nap somewhere in the shade of a tree. In moments like these, even the life of the Hawk King can be a happy and carefree one at times.
Tibarn's least favorite season would be winter. He is a fan of neither cold temperatures in general, nor the short days that come with winter, what with the Hawks being almost completely unable to function without light.

🎭 MASKS - do they act differently around certain people? what's different between the way they act around friends, family, strangers, etc.?
OC emoji asks | accepting
Oh, absolutely. Tibarn's behavior towards others has an absolutely massive range, going from the gentle and doting older brother figure that he is towards Reyson and Leanne, all the way to the hateful wild beast or sub-human, as they would call him, towards those who disrespect and discriminate against the laguz.
It's interesting to see that Tibarn's attitude towards others can shift pretty quickly. In Path of Radiance, he goes from the beorc's greatest enemy who may or may not have been thinking of going to war against them, to lending Ike his most trusted men and becoming his faithful ally in the span of one chapter, as soon as he realizes that Ike is not an enemy of the laguz and was trying to protect the Herons. But then, on the other hand - no matter how far we are into the games, no matter how much time he has spent fighting alongside the good beorc, Tibarn's boss conversations against certain enemies (ahem. Lekain) have him embody the savage beast that they accuse him and his people of being, speaking openly and joyfully about tearing them to shreds in retaliation for their crimes against the laguz.
The way I look at it, Tibarn's behavior towards others often mirrors the way in which they treat him. If you respect him and his people, and are willing to aid them when they need help, you will get the exact same in return with honesty and earnest. If you want a monster, you will get a monster.

❇️ SPARKLE - what is their most prized possession? what do they value?
OC emoji asks | accepting
The laguz, generally speaking, don't pay much attention to material goods for the most part, and Tibarn is no different. Being big, strong and a King is neat because it means his voice has to be heard and it allows him to better protect his people, not because it comes with riches and treasures.
I think his most treasured possession would be feathers. Both his own, because they keep him alive and let him fly, and his wings are his greatest pride - and those of others. He, Janaff, Ulki and Reyson have definitely exchanged a few feathers as gifts, what with them serving as a symbol of a Hawk's faith, friendship and loyalty, and he has kept every single one he has ever been given, storing them safely to ensure they don't get damaged. He also keeps a feather of Lotz, his young attendant who was killed by the Black Knight, as a reminder that he must strive to always do better.

THE STABBINGTON BROTHERS - What reasons would make your muse choose to follow someone?

THE STABBINGTON BROTHERS - What reasons would make your muse choose to follow someone?
Depends on what kind of following we’re talking about.
If by following someone we want to understand working alongside and possibly taking the orders from, like it was with the Greil Mercenaries, then above all else it requires a lot of trust. And Tibarn’s trust is not gained easily; the might of the entire Hawk tribe is not a boon to be granted easily, and the past of the bird tribes - and Tellius in general - is full of betrayal, pain and death.
In Ike’s case, what did it was that Ike found and protected Leanne, while also attempting to aid Reyson, against the large and powerful force of a Begnion senator; and the decisive factor was that Ike didn’t really have to do it. His mission was to find Reyson so that Sanaki could talk to him. He didn’t have to be nice towards Reyson, especially after how the Heron treated him before, and he could have just left Leanne where she was (or, as would be natural for a human, take her for himself). The way Tibarn saw it, Ike helped the Herons becaue he wanted to, not because he had to, and that was why he chose to offer the Greil Mercenaries his aid. And naturally, when Ike and his company agree to support the laguz in their struggle against the beorc, the trust and belief he has for them is only solidified.
Now, if by following we mean accepting as king... I wanted to say that takes less effort, but then again said effort involves taking Tibarn out in a duel, so maybe not lmao. The laguz choose their rulers based on strength, so if another Hawk were to challenge Tibarn to a one-on-one fight and win, then as far as he’s concerned, they’re the ruler now and that’s that.

YZMA - What’s the biggest mistake your muse has made?

YZMA - What’s the biggest mistake your muse has made?
As far as Tibarn is concerned, the biggest mistake he has ever made was trusting Naesala during the Laguz Alliance’s war against Begnion. It was because he let his guard down against the Raven King, thinking (foolishly, as he believed at the time) that he had changed for the better, that his nation was massacred by the Ravens. It’s something he never stopped blaming himself for, and likely never will.
While Tibarn would not openly admit that to anyone aside from his closest friends, that event was an enormous blow to him and while he played strong in front of his men, he actually struggled to get his confidence and composure back until Ashera passed her judgement; it took a lot of singing from Reyson and the full weight and power of the spirit of order for him to properly recover.

EVIL QUEEN - What would your muse give up if it meant they could take revenge on their worst enemy?
What would Tibarn give up to exact his revenge on the Begnion senators? Just about everything. He wouldn’t give up his people and their safety, but other than that, pretty much everything else is fair game, his life included. (And even then, the tragedy of the Serenes Massacre lives on in the entire Hawk tribe, so they would follow his lead anyway.)
Some might think that he calms down and perhaps wouldn’t go to such length after he meets Ike and stops hating beorc as a species. I don’t think that would be true, though; he no longer despises and thinks the same of all beorc, true, but between Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, with what the senators do and what is revealed about their actions - especially the Serenes Massacre - Tibarn’s hatred of the senators gets stronger, not weaker.

SCAR - Does your muse make promises they can’t keep? How often?

SCAR - Does your muse make promises they can’t keep? How often?
Not really. The Hawks pride themselves on being men of their words and keeping the oaths and promises they make is very important to them. This honesty, truthfulness and loyalty was, in the times of conflict between the bird tribes, one of their main arguments for their superiority over the Ravens.
Tibarn is no different. If anything, sticking to his word is even more important to him than an average Hawk, as in many situations, his word is that of the entire tribe. If he cannot keep a promise, it will be because of unforeseen circumstances or something out of his control. Otherwise, if he swears support, aid or revenge, it WILL happen. Some promises might take him a few years to fulfil, but he never forgets.
