Whatever it takes.

A cherished promise made since they were kids, guilt a disease Kagura couldn’t heal herself from… not until Kyo knew she lived in regret every single day. The scream that’d ripped itself from her throat had forced her to be permanently cursed to hear it echo in her ears whenever she looked at him. Feet remained stubbornly rooted by Kyo’s side until he eventually forced her away unlike when they’d headed for the hills away from his other form.

If only she could do that moment all over again.

Every touch and hug now screamed out I love you, passion-filled and a little too bone-crushing strong and forceful. But Kagura felt it even if Kyo didn’t. She could be selfish like this, love unrequited, and bask in the bittersweet punishment she deserved for turning her back on him just like everyone else had in Kyo’s time of need. At his most vulnerable. Because Kagura felt like if she didn’t keep trying to make amends and pretend like they were fine… and if she didn’t show Kyo there was at least someone that still wanted him around… he might disappear forever and not come back.

She wasn’t Master, or even Yuki… and certainly not— the name refused to budge from the frosty depths of darkness called jealousy. It’s what drove Kagura’s grip to become the teensiest bit tighter, shocked and gutted to the core by Kyo’s protests. “Don’t you think it’s a sign we’re meant to be together?!” She was the best choice for him, the one who knew him, the one who’d been scared and wanted to spend the rest of her days making up for past unforgivable mistakes. Unfortunately, her doting personality suddenly clicked into fury when his next words landed. “You can’t call a lady heavy! I should really teach you some manners!” Having grabbed the collar of Kyo’s shirt to throttle him between words, Kagura stopped her motions abruptly like a light switched on.

“Go on a date with me!” The demand announcement burst from her chest with her thundering heartbeat, practically breathless from her actions and request. “I’ll… I’ll teach you how to be nice, get you to smile, and make you admit you love me at the same time!” Over the top? Dramatic? Absolutely. Her heart was in overdrive at the thought. A date. A date. “Well?!” For once, Kagura waited for an answer rather than tell Kyo what to do and physically force him to do it by yanking him by the scruff. A sign of determination that she too could change.
