anyway. let me be more coherent about the last post i made. i think boiling it down to such a simple concept strips the possibility of a realistic relationship between two nation people. it’d be something that starts out, at least on japan’s side, as a relationship of convenience and exchange, and he does not intend to get too close to anyone in europe, but eventually things warm up a little-- not a lot, not for the sake of shipping, but enough that he might go and call someone a friend unironically. and then, of course, he’s vindicated later on when it turns out that wasn’t really true either and there was always reason to be mistrustful of them, and that at the end of the day, all relationships are convenience and exchange.

but then come present day, there’s more of an inclination to actually try and get along. the rules have changed slightly, and now it’s more about soft power, and japan can more easily befriend the west knowing that he’s not just looking like their next endeavor. the dynamics are so much deeper than “they’re friends uwu” and i think it’s a shame the community tends to ignore it for whatever reason. i don’t really care what the reason is but the more complex relationship that lines up better with real world events is much more interesting to me, and i’m not afraid to say that much.  ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯

i’m not going to be mean in tags on someone else’s post so basically: japan from 1868-1945 was not the helpless stupid baby that people think he is.

hikaru isn’t even baby tbh but i digress. when japan befriended germany it wasn’t because anyone else felt pity for him and said “oh my, you need friends you poor socially inept baby, come here uwuwuwuwuwuwu” it was him saying “we need to learn from you people so you don’t swallow us whole like you did the rest of asia you fucking vultures,” with a smile before entering the room to speak with them face to face. 

i sent this post too soon and i’m coming off of a very rough few days so i know this sounds incredibly harsh but i’m so tired of this view of japan this is exactly why people conveniently forget about all the bad shit when it’s time to uguu over friendships like are you fucking kidding me.

I literally just got here, but I appreciate your take on Japan so, so much! Hikaru and Kiku are so compelling. Their lore is so intricate and well-thought out. Anyone who reads your pages can tell from that very first glance that a lot of love and care was put into these characters. Your info is (chef’s kiss)!!! I know how hard it can be to come up with a detailed information page while making it interesting for first time viewers and man, you really nailed it! I finished my reading wanting more! I’m really looking forward to interacting with them c:

Speaking of which, thank you for following me! I was really excited to see your url pop up in my follows. I'm always really hesitant to follow people first since these two (THESE TWO!! shakes them.) are certainly a thing between the folklore and the heavy historical nature of them. I'm really glad that I was able to give a good first impression though! Sometimes I think I should clean things up or make my timeline / lore pages differently but knowing that it's coherent enough to follow along / answer any kinds of questions that might be left after a bio page ends gives me confidence that it's probably not as bad as I thought, hahaha. ♥ I think I'd better get going on that fanfic I promised back in August, it's way more detailed than these pages could be. We should definitely plot soon, I'd love to see how they get on with Dmitriy. :))

The vibes are just off, so hopefully I didn’t give anyone the impression that I’m irreparably insane about this hobby, I’m barely around much as it is and always have my follower count hidden. ]
