I wasn’t sure at first how I felt about Mariana tagging along, and I know it’s the greatest imaginable horror for a lot of us that the show might go down a John/Mariana route… but when they stayed over at the Trevors' and John and Mariana got to share a room, the way they were chatting as friends and not flirting at all before bedtime was reassuring to me, rather than disquieting.

That said, I don’t know if we’re kidding ourselves that this show will always just be soft and kind and warm and free from any interpersonal drama… ACD did create Moriarty and Reichenbach, and he did give Watson a wife and made him move out of Baker Street, *twice*… I know Joel Emory said John‘s not gonna marry and move out in this interview but 'Sign of Four' without a LI for Watson?!

Talking about LIs, I get the impression that so far, the accepted Viclock fanon always has Sherlock pining after Victor. Interesting to see it the other way round!

I honestly don’t get why you’d go to the logistical trouble of raiding an oil rig. I mean, it makes sense if you hold the workers and the production hostage for ransom from the stinking rich oil companies, or if you stage a political protest there, but that’s not what they did in the story, with communications with the mainland cut and everything happening in secret. What were they after? Who keeps money and valuables on an oil rig for anyone to steal?

Also, how did a man who is rich enough to start his life owning high end property in Camden Town become a violent criminal in Australia?

Hunter is an awful man but if you look at the amount of trauma he's been through, it would have been a miracle if he had turned out any differently…

But anyway. It was a tricky case to modernise and they did it well.

boone was primarily raised by his grandparents in a double-wide down in ouachita county, arkansas. his mother was only a teenager when she had him; to her credit, she tried her best to raise him herself before realizing she was in over her head. she ended up handing him over to her parents to look after while she got her life in order. for the first couple of years, their contact was bare minimum until a little after boone’s 3rd birthday, when she got a stable office job down in magnolia. after that, she was still an infrequent presence throughout boone’s childhood at best but her visits were always a positive experience for him. inevitably, they did hit a rough patch during boone’s teenage years, however, that was over a decade ago; these days, they’ve worked out most of their issues and have a fairly healthy connection, even if their relationship is more like friends or siblings than mother-and-son. in contrast, boone’s grandfather still lives in camden and boone makes sure to always visit during the wranglers off seasons.

he’s fairly certain he has adhd but he’s never gotten an official diagnoses because, southern boy that he is, he doesn’t totally believe it’s a real thing. closest he’s gotten is when lily and dani made him take an online quiz and he got mad at the results for making it harder to ignore ( “whatever, man. they don’t know nothin'.” )

he’s never had any formal education past high school. he always struggled with school, not because he was stupid, mind you, or because the subjects weren’t interesting. he was never intentionally disruptive. it’s just his adhd made it hard and the public school system ( especially the small town public school systems of south-eastern arkansas ) wasn’t designed with kids like him in mind. he considered dropping out at one point ( during that aforementioned rough patch with his mother ) but luckily he stuck with it and he’s glad he did, even if his GPA wasn’t going to earn him any scholarships.

he began working in the ouachita county oilfields right out of high school as a transport driver but it didn’t take long for him to realize he fucking hated it. the money was good, sure, but the hours were torturous, the work backbreaking, and they didn’t appreciate his brand of ✨whimsy✨. he lasted a little less than a year before eventually leaving to find something else.

he drifted around a bit after that, doing odd jobs here and there for cash, until he eventually found steady work as a rodeo bullfighter ( or “rodeo clown” ). it was his job to draw the bulls away from downed contestants and provide comedic relief between shows. it was at one of these competitions that he met tyler owens. the two got along like a house on fire and remained friends long after tyler had to retire due to his injury. when tyler returned years later with a phd and an idea, boone wasted no time in joining his storm chasing crew.

boone will credit those shows for turning him into a bit of an adrenaline junkie, which made the transition into storm chasing way easier than it probably should have been for any sane person. he learned everything he knows about chasing from tyler and because of that, feels he can never quite repay him for helping him find something he’s good at. that boy is his ride or die.

Because many people hc they used to get along a lot, both were abused by their parents, and after Sirius left everything went to shit... It was nice to get all the attention and approval for once now that Sirius was "out of the way". What do you reckon?

i kinda see it as more that regulus did miss sirius and he did love him, but he also saw it as sirius betraying the family and forced himself to stop missing sirius and instead see it as relief that the black family name is safer in his hands (in terms on keeping tradition and not ruining the family name), as the new heir.

i do definitely agree with you about sirius being the favourite. i think with orion, sirius was absolutely his favourite and he never liked to interact with regulus who he only saw as a 'spare heir' for sirius. and with walburga, i think she did coddle regulus a lot but sirius was still more her favourite as he was more talented/smarter/charming and also reminded her of herself (i imagine walburga as being quite rebellious to her own parents as a teen but ultimately went back into the family fold, so she assumed sirius would be the same)

i think sirius and regulus do love each other a lot, but their relationship is also wrapped up in a lot of family trauma and different priorities that they can't really get past. like how sirius refers to regulus seems to hold a lot of affection, but he's still disappointed in regulus for being unable to recognise the harm of their family.

in terms of younger them, i think they still weren't super close. i think they would have had a lot of studies to do, which they did alone/with tutors and not together as sirius would be quite disruptive. and out of that, sirius would have a lot of playmates (kids of family friends) over that he liked to prank, whilst regulus hid from the other kids by staying in his room and reading. they had very different definitions of fun so didn't really play together at all. however there is one thing that i hc they did together- going to a music shop nearby. however as they got older, regulus stopped wanting to go as much, whilst sirius was constantly there or just loitering around camden all day.

the city of remington was founded in late 1829 during the georgia gold rush. it was a larger settlement for the prospectors that used to travel to sable grove to strike it rich. today, it is a thriving metropolis home to such prominent tourist attractions such as the great rapids amusement park, the barlowe botanical gardens, and distillery drive. it is also home to remington university and the official home of nfl team the remington prospectors, nhl team the remington gold hawks, and the mlb team the remington 29ers. remington is also known to be a festival city during the summers, hosting events such as the taste of remington and the street buskers festival. to the world, remington seems like a city of promise, however, if you look a little closer you’ll see dilapidated buildings with graffiti protesting the oppressive hold of corporations, you’ll see broken swing sets in seedy neighborhoods, and you might just be able to see deals being made on street corners. remington proves that even the shiniest of exteriors can have the grimiest of secrets lurking within.

camden is a historic part of remington that was once lined with bootleggers and secret speakeasies between the 1920s to the 1930s. now, it is widely known as the fine arts and cultural district. it is home to the remington art gallery and theatre alley which is home to the remington ballet company, the remington philharmonic, and the remington players. it is also home to jazz clubs, piano bars, and of course your good ol’ country music bars. some casting agencies, modeling agencies, and production companies also call camden home. the neighborhood also has a series of small man-made parks and trails that are a runner’s paradise. this area houses a lot of trendy apartment buildings, brownstones, and houses with old world charm that tend to be perfect for those in the middle-income or higher income brackets.

crestmont

crestmont is remington’s financial and governmental neighborhood. you’ll find city hall which houses city council offices, the mayor’s office, and all the major courthouses. it is also home to the remington police department and the sheriff's station. crestmont also has easy access to remington memorial hospital and the remington firehouse. around the corner from city hall is market street which is home to well known financial institutions, major real estate developers, and also larger tech and entertainment-focused companies. homes in this area are relatively pretty expensive and swanky and feature penthouses, brownstones, and luxury apartments.

cromwell

population - 14177 | price point - $$$ to $$$$$

cromwell is perhaps one of the busiest neighborhoods in remington featuring all the major sports arenas and stadiums as well as the larger concert venues. it is home to palladium square which is full to the brim with street performers and buskers. during the weekends, there is a large farmer’s market and craft and book fairs. it is also a hop skip and jump from remington public library and cromwell park. due to its resemblance to many popular cities, cromwell is a popular filming location. you’ll find mid-tier to high-tier housing in the area, and it is home to many families with young children.

snakeleaf

population - 20101 | price point - $ to $$$

back in the 1800s, the snakeleaf area used to be swampy marshy lands where only the underlings of the city used to congregate. it still maintains its “seedy” reputation with its collection of motels and other shady businesses. unlike the rest of the city, the snakeleaf area is not prim and pristine. however, some would argue that this is where the real deals in the city happen and not in crestmont or cromwell. the main highlight of this area is the abandoned shoe factory which is a popular venue for raves, outlandish parties, and general debauchery that is rented by more elite hands than you would think to imagine. housing is cheap here, but it comes at the cost of your safety and sanity, quite frankly.

yearwood

population - 30000 | price point - $ to $$$

yearwood widely known as the education district, yearwood is home to remington university spanning ten whole city blocks. around the corner from remington university, you’ll also find the yearwood mall and tucked in a corner is distillery drive which features bars, clubs, taverns, cafes, and restaurants that are popular with students, remington residents, and tourists alike. at the end of distillery drive, you’ll find the wall, a skate park with a massive brick wall that is frequently tagged with graffiti, murals, and messages. housing in this area is relatively cheap and largely occupied by students or early career professionals.
