𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 — 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐧 .

Located in the Virgo constellation 60 million light-years away from our galaxy rests what has been nicknamed the Butterfly Galaxies ( NGC 4567 and NGC 4568 respectively ). They are a set of unbarred spiral galaxies in the process of colliding and merging with each other. NGC 4568 is the galaxy in which the planet Cocoon can be found, where Shiori is originally from.

A tropical planet with an abundance of trees, flowers and greenery, Cocoon is blanketed largely by night with very few daylight hours. The atmosphere of the planet seems to always be in a haze of yellow—this is due to the endless pollination that goes on from its inhabitants. Inhabitants of Cocoon are Insect-Humanoids very similar to Earth’s moths and butterflies. Like their Earth counterparts, they are a nocturnal species and thus, Cocoon’s lack of daylight hours works well for them.

As a planet largely dominated by nature, it should come as no surprise that the inhabitants of Cocoon are considered Animists and believe that all living things, objects, and places possess a certain spiritual essence. Animism perceives all things—animals, plants, rocks, rivers, human handiwork, and potentially words—to be animated and alive.

Among their spiritual beliefs is their deep reverence for The Willow—a large tree taking up nearly one-third of the planet and is the source of all life and energy on Cocoon. Inhabitants are born from The Willow, developing in the safety of a cocoon or chrysalis which grants them life through an endless process of pollination by other inhabitants. Unlike humans, they do not experience developmental stages of life, but acquire their development through the chrysalis or cocoon and are born as full adults with the universal knowledge gained from The Willow. Thus, there are no such things as family units on Cocoon. Rather, they exist in tribes that share similar traits and carry out similar objectives that ultimately all work together to keep the planet thriving. It is their belief that all life is sacred and as such will return to the Tree upon death to continue the circle of life.

Cocoon is a planet completely devoid of pollution. Their deep reverence for The Willow, and their nature as Insect-Humanoids means that they work tirelessly to keep their planet clean and healthy. It wasn’t until Galaxia set her sights on the planet that pollution was eventually introduced and it is this introduction that ultimately became the planet’s demise—for as The Willow became poisoned and began to die, so did the planet and its inhabitants.
