kelsi was humming to herself as she sat down at the outside of the cafe, not really knowing what to do with herself since getting here. she'd been spending a lot of her time writing. they hadn't had inspiration like this since high school. "hey, do you mind if i just...play you some notes from this tune i've been working on? it'll be kind of rough, but i need a second opinion."

kelsi looked at troy and shook her head while she spoke, "if you really think it's going to help distract us from everything that's going on around us, troy, then i am all for it." the brunette would do just about anything to get her mind off of everything that was happening in this place. she missed her friends. she missed their life. it was hard to have their friends around them and have them not remember who they were. "just, one stipulation, no sports movies."

"not space like that, bolton. but space like we don't try and tell them who we are right away. we need a plan before we do something like that." kelsi shook her head as she thought of how everything could go if she just tried to commit to everything. she liked the fact that she at least had troy to talk to about all of this. but she didn't know what to do. it all seemed to surreal. it was insane to think that barely anyone else remembered who she was. and what they were to each other. kelsi and troy were practically an island of their own in this place. trying to get their friends, their family, back. "re-creacting important moments? do you want me to just pull a piano out of somewhere and play the songs from our high school musicals?"

" space ? " troy raised a brow , unsure what his friend meant. " and what ? watch them from a distance while we sort out a plan ?? " he couldn't do that. he couldn't stay away from gabriella , especially. even their other friends , it felt wrong to try to avoid them at all. " but what if being around them helps jog their memories , huh ??? " really , he was a being a little selfish. " what about ... music ? hm ? " he was desperate for a different plan. " or re - creating important moments ??? " he offered. " if we just don't get our hopes up , then we can't be disappointed. "

kelsi hated feeling useless it was worse to her than nearly anything else. she didn't know what to do. she wanted to be back at school and to be doing what she loved. and worst of all, she wanted her friends to remember who she was without having to beg them to do that. "i don't think we abandon them, either, troy. but maybe we need space to think of a plan. because right now i don't even have the beginning part of anything." kelsi shook her head at the thought. she didn't know what to do about it. "i don't want to go back and try something when we're not sure and come back disappointed time and time again, you know?" she spoke frustratedly.

" that doesn't mean we abandon them , " troy replied. gabriella didn't remember him , but that doesn't mean he wasn't every moment he could get with her. " maybe we can get them to remember ... " it was possible. he wasn't going to force it , for fear or traumatizing their friends. weirder things , like waking up here , had already happened. " then let's work through it together , yeah ?? " he offered. " let's figure out what we wanna do. we at least have each other , right ?? and maybe more of us will show up and / or remember ... "

kelsi shrugged her shoulders, "what if the rest of them don't remember us either?" she already had gabriella and ryan who didn't remember her. but she hadn't seen anybody but them and troy yet. it was just killing her to have to deal with this uncertainty. she just was struggling with all of it. "i want to be the playmaker you want me to be, troy, but i keep thinking about all the what ifs and it's making my head spin."

" i mean , i guess , " troy said with a shrug. " do we try to get home , do we find the rest of our friends ... " he swallowed hard , reminded of his girlfriend who now forgot him. " or make the friends we do find remember us. " his voice turned bitter. he had no idea what to do about anything. " you're the closest thing i have to a playmaker right now , kels ... "

she didn't know what else to do with her time here. she wasn't feeling up to getting back to school just yet, and she didn't know if she wanted to work. so writing was where she was happiest. "we have to do something, right?" she said after a moment of thoughts. "not that i...can even think of what we can do, but should we do something?"

" it is a new experience , i guess ; and with that , new inspo. " troy couldn't say the exact same for himself. he was surely experiencing brand new emotions and flexing his acting chops ; but not for favorable reasons. " i'm happy some good stuff can come out of this situation , " he chuckled. " i know all i've been doing is diving in basketball and acting , even if it's running me ragged ... "

"well thanks troy," kelsi beamed at the answer. back in high school that sort of statement probably would have made her flush with embarrassment. now she just felt a sense of pride at her own work. "this place has been oddly inspiring me. i mean...what else do i have to do but write, you know?"

troy partially in his own little world as he went over the script in his hands ; snapping back to attention when kelsi spoke up. " hm , huh ? " he blinked , his brain still registering her words. " oh , of course , " he finally said with a light laugh. he sat up , putting the booklet he held between them. " but i'm not sure how much my opinions matters , besides i've liked everything you written ... "

kelsi nodded her head as she looked at troy. she agreed with him, they could use the distraction. but she didn't know what good it would do. even if they were distracted for some time, it would all still be there when it would be done. she just needed to move on, maybe. even if she knew they couldn't. "love and basketball is a romcom first and a sports film second, obviously, troy." kelsi corrected with a quick shake of her head as she looked at him. "but is that really what you want to watch right now?"

" we could use the distraction , " troy insisted. after all , kelsi was tired of hearing of his qualms ; but it's not like he had anyone else to go to as of late. at least he had basketball and theatre to keep him pre - occupied. troy was scrolling through movies , the selection already on space jam when he heard kelsi's plea. he gave her a look of disbelief. " ugh , fine , " he handed her the remote. " then mine is nothing too sappy with romance. " it'd just remind me of gabriella. " so love & basketball is really out of the question then ... "
