คโ I DON'T GET IT, MR. LARUSSO. Helping her with lawyers and shit is one thing, but asking her to come sit in on a class? You can't trust her! โ

คYOU CAN GET AWAY WITH HOARDING HOLY WATER IF YOUR DAD IS A PASTOR, RIGHT? That, at least, is a cover that makes sense. But the rest of it? The stakes and weapons spread out across the floor of the Miyagi-do guest house? The occult iconography laid out to be studied? She won't even try to explain that. It's not like she's a very convincing liar, anyway. โ I'll tell you what I'm not doing, โ Tory shuffles to her feet, stepping in front of her little Slayer set-up on the floor. ( At least she's trying to be prepared ! ) โ I'm NOT trying to summon a demon. That just sounds stupid. โ Everything coming out of her mouth right now sounds stupid, actually. She's expecting a major freak out of some sorts, because honestly โ what the fuck are you doing, Tory !? โ sounds like a perfectly reasonable response to a situation like this. But Mr. Larusso isn't openly freaking out. Not the way she thought he would. โ Are you going to kick me out of the guest house now? Because I totally get it. This is a weird thing to walk in on in the middle of the day. โ Tory rubs the back of her neck, watching for any reaction she can gauge from Daniel. โ You're . . . not taking this the way I thought you would. You good, Mr. L? โ

The โstrong rootsโ analogy is SO important to Tory, it was one of the first things Daniel taught her and she has never let it go. Itโs helped her through a lot of shit.

คSHE DOESN'T NEED ANYONE'S PITY. It was bad enough that Sam's mom had gotten her fired, but now she's leaving groceries at her door? As if that could somehow make anything better? It's probably just a threat, anyway. A way to show that the Larussos know where she lives, since she broke into their house last December. ( Didn't she hear someone say that Louie Larusso had his buddies โ send a message โ to Johnny once? Is this one of those situations? ) Either way, it wasn't welcome. Just a bunch of salt poured into an open wound. She'd let Amanda know as much, returning the basket to its sender in the least friendly way possible. That should be the end of it, she thinks, until she realizes she dropped her phone at the dealership during her little tirade. ( God fucking dammit. ) Tory tries to sneak back in to ask the receptionist about it the next day, but of course, she has to be one of the most cursed people on the planet, running into Mr. Larusso the moment she steps through the doors. โ Shit. Sorry, โ she murmurs, taking a second to realize who she'd bumped into. Her face twists when she does, wincing, knowing that any second she's going to be thrown out of here. โ I don't want trouble, โ Tory says in a rush, palms extended in front of her as her eyes dart to the floor. โ I dropped my phone here yesterday. I need it back. โ

After ย last ย year, ย he ย isn't ย sure ย what ย to ย gift ย Tory. ย He ย had ย given ย her ย a ย few ย last ย year ย that ย meant ย a ย lot ย of ย things. ย So ย he ย takes ย his ย time ย choosing ย something ย specific ย that ย she ย would ย enjoy. ย There ย are ย options, ย he ย thinks ย of ย a ย lot ย of ย things ย that ย end ย up ย being ย brushed ย off ย and ย Daniel ย in ย the ย end ย figures ย something ย she ย would ย appreciate. ย "Happy ย birthday, ย Tory. ย I ย know ย this ย might ย look ย boring, ย but ย I ย promise ย it's ย worth ย the ย time." ย And ย it ย was ย just ย a ย pile ย of ย papers ย at ย first. ย It ย was ย a ย house ย lean ย of ย the ย guest ย house. ย "This ย is ย a ย lean ย of ย the ย house, ย saying ย that ย it ย belongs ย to ย you, ย in ย case ย of ย my ย death ย or ย harm. ย Basically, ย it ย just ย say ย that ย while ย it ย is ย under ย my ย family's ย property, ย that ย the ย house ย on ย itself ย is ย yours." ย Tory ย helped ย rebuilt ย it ย and ย made ย it ย her ย home ย after ย all. ย It ย seemed ย right ย that ย the ย house ย now ย belonged ย to ย her ย legally ย and ย he ย made ย sure ย it ย was ย all ย on ย paper. ย no ย loopholes.

คSHE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY. Daniel's done so much for her already, and yet somehow he keeps surprising her by doing more. All the legal jargon on the paper doesn't make much sense to her, but the things she can make out from it feel surreal as she processes it all. The guest house is the closest thing she's had to a home since she was eight years old. Sure, there was all the apartment hopping ( when her mom could afford it and they weren't stuck in motel rooms ) , but none of those place ever felt like home. Not like this. Tory put work into this place, helping Daniel expand it so it could fit both her and Brandon comfortably. Best of all, she feels safe here. As grateful as Tory is, she's always made sure to treat it like a loan. A temporary gift. But now? These papers in front of her say otherwise.

คโ Sooo I take it I haven't overstayed my welcome yet? I feel like most people get eviction notices from their parents when they turn eighteen, not legal ownership , โ Tory jokes, but really, it's taking a lot of effort on her part not cry in that moment. Good tears, for once. There are a lot of scary things about turning eighteen; uncertainty is such a bitch when you're young. There's always been an unspoken fear in Tory that somehow everything could go wrong and she and Brandon would end up on their own again. A cruel survival instinct that demands her to expect the worst even when things are at their best. Yet she can see right in front of her, these papers that say she will always have a home here. Something that can't be easily taken from her now. โ You have no idea what this means to me, Mr. Larusso, โ Tory wipes at her eyes. There's a laugh, and she should know by now that trying to hold up any kind of front is a losing game, especially in front of Daniel. Might as well just let the waterworks go. โ Ah, fuck. I was trying not to cry. โ

โก โฐโฐ @senseibalanceโ // itโs Daniel Larusso day !! โฑโฑ
ย ย ย ย ย ย โ UM. SURPRISE? โย Okay, so she wasnโt completely done yet, but close enough. Sheโd even gotten up at 6am in an attempt to have enough time to finish before Daniel arrived at the dojo that morning. The entire place, both the interior and the garden, had been cleaned. The cars had been waxed and all the bonsai watered and trimmed as needed. The whole place, immaculate. For the most part.ย โ I got up early and did all the chores and stuff around here so you donโt have to do it this weekend. Now you have more time to go spend with your family today, or whatever you wanna do. โย Tory knows heโs a hard worker, but if anyone deserves to do nothing but relax on their birthday, itโs Daniel. She didnโt mind doing it all herself if it meant he got a break for once. Tory reaches into her pocket, pulling out a small bonsai keychain.ย โ I got you this little thing, too. I donโt know if youโre into keychains, but it made me think of you, so I had to get it for you. โ
ย ย ย ย ย As she goes through her mental checklist, she realizes one big thing sheโs forgotten.ย โ Oh shit, wait โ โย ย she says under her breath, rushing to plant herself between Daniel and the door to the dojo, sliding the partially open screen shut before he can see whatโs inside.ย โ Donโt go in yet! Your big presentโs in here, and itโs not wrapped yet. โย Mild moment of panic subsides, and she rubs the back of her neck.ย โ Or, I guess itโs not that big a deal whether I wrap it or not, huh? Since youโre already here. Unless you just feel like ripping up some wrapping paper for some reason,ย โย Tory shrugs. Not quite sure she can wait much longer before showing it to him, anyway. Sheโs far too impatient for that.ย โ Sooo . . . do you wanna see it now? โ
