For the first time in a very long time James was at a loss for words. He always seemed to be able to clap back at whatever venom Narissa spit at im, but in that moment he was frozen. “I--” he began but nothing else would form. He closed his mouth and shoved his hands in his pockets. She was right though, and that pissed him off. He did want to go drink after this. That would just cause more problems than solve them though. After a long silence he finally said, “I’m sorry. I don’t want to keep fighting with you.” He bit the inside of his cheek. “But,” he said carefully, “my feelings are just as valid as yours are.” He was trying to be as adult about this as possible. “I don’t know why I ever thought we could make this work a second time. As much as I want to...it seems that you don’t.”

{ location: up to the player! }
They tell themselves to remember home when they can’t keep their eyes open much longer. The address and details were graved to their brain by now. Even still they are ending up in a unusual place, curling up on their tucked up arms. Much later a calling voice, likely to be the owner of the place, is not heard by Dee. They had been up all night doing God knows what. Their body curls up tight to the noise and they are snoring louder.
James had forgotten something back at the shop and hadn’t realized it until a few hours later when he was ready to start winding down for he night and go to bed. It wasn’t a huge pain to go and get it seeing as he lived nearby, but a pain nonetheless. When he went to unlock the door to his shop he realized the door was already unlocked. Had he forgotten to lock it? Surely not. With his senses heightened and himself on high alert he entered the shop and yelled out, “who’s there?!” Upon further investigation he comes across a sleeping person. How odd, he thinks to himself. “How the fuck did you get in here?” He nudges the person with his boot. “Wake up and get out before I make you regret it.” He wasn’t going to call the police, nothing seemed damaged or stolen and he didn’t want to cause problems for himself. The less contact he had with them the better. Once again he nudged the person. “I said, wake up!”

“Get the fuck OUT!” James screamed as he chased the small girl out of the office of his shop. “How many times do I need to tell you to stay the fuck away from me?!” He was angry and when he had her cornered he towered over her. His eyes were narrowed and it took ever ounce of self control not to literally pick her up and throw her out of the building. “Stay away from me, my property, and just this area in general! You have no business being here. I swear I will call the cops next time and file a restraining order if I have to.” It wasn’t something he wanted to do as it could unravel a load of problems for him, but the threat was still there.

James had just brought on a new hire in the form of Hubert Duck. He didn’t know much about the boy aside from his application or interview, but James was always needing more help around shop. He’d informed the boy that Smee would let him in that morning and that he, himself, would be in later that morning. So, when he came inside he scanned the shop for him and once he spotted him he approached him. “Hoey, right? You prefer that to Hobert?” James asked. “Good to see you were here on time. That’s good form.” James glanced around the shop. “You’ve figured out the register I take it?” he asked and before waiting for a response said, “good. Inventory needs to be done.” He checks his watch. “You’ll get a twenty minute break around noon so you have plenty of time still to get adjusted and learn how to take inventory. Any questions before we start?”

@angeliquemathieu
James knew he was acting weird at the rave. He hadn’t really wanted to go in the first place plus he’d seen Narissa there and he’d be damned if he let her see him with another woman since they were technically married again. It was a weird situation but he felt sort of bad for kind of blowing Angelique off. He didn’t really have any intentions on making it up to her, but he knew he should at least talk to her. So, he had her meet him at a bar. It wasn’t the Snuggly Duckling, for once, but a nicer bar that was tucked away downtown. He’d already had a few drinks by the time she arrived but wasn’t inebriated. Once he spotted her walk in he smiled small and waved her down. “Hey, what are we drinking tonight?”

Since their drunken escapade James had only spoken to Narissa as needed. Never in a million years did he think he would wake up married to his ex-wife. Well, now wife. It was all sort of confusing still. He’d seen her at the rave in her outfit and couldn’t help but think how amazing she looked. He didn’t particularly want to be there, but he had promised Angelique he would meet up with her. He wasn’t really dressed special for the occasion. Just black trunks, sunglasses, and some sandals. It was simple and he did not care. When he spotted her outside of the crowd he approached her with two drinks in hand. One for her and one for himself. “Hi,” he greeted. “I brought you a drink. You’re fucking crazy so when I told the bartender just pour a bunch of tequila in a cup he looked at me weird. So, now you have a triple shot tequila sunrise.”

James was so drunk that he couldn’t even process proper thoughts. All he knew was that he was with Narissa and this wasn’t the first night they spent together lately. There were still lingering feelings he had for her from their marriage and the proposal had just slipped from his lips. Had he meant it? He wasn’t even sure. All he knew was that he had said it and that if he could do their marriage over he would do it differently. “I don’t know. Why not? You told me how awful I was the first time we were married, why not do it over? Who says we couldn’t make it work? We could get a real nice house and a dog.” James smiles and shakes his head. “I’m being ridiculous, aren’t I? It would never work out, would it? We can barely get along for ten minutes these days.” He looks away from her and takes a sip from his near empty drink. Perhaps he should stop drinking for the night. He wasn’t sober for their first marriage who says he would be for their second? “I don’t know if I’m serious or not. I think I’m just really drunk and emotional.” He looks back at her, his dark eyes almost unreadable. “If I was serious would you say yes?”

“Oh, get fucked, Narissa,” he scoffed. “What the fuck was there to talk about? I thought we really had a great thing going but fuck me I guess for being the asshole. I gave you everything I possibly good but it still wasn’t enough. It’s not my fault you’re a greedy bitch and no one can live up to your high expectations. Why don’t you hop off your high horse and come to reality? Life isn’t perfect. For a minute I thought ours was. Do you want me to apologize for not seeing the problems? Clearly you’re better off without me so why should I?” He was so angry and hurt. “Yeah, you don’t care. You never did that’s why you fucked the first person you could. Was it revenge? What did I do that was so bad? I’m dying to know.”

@barbs-xo
James had already been awake an hour. He didn’t sleep much. A few hours a night and then every other week or so would crash and sleep for multiple hours straight. He’d already had one mug of coffee, moving around as silently as possible as to not wake Barbie. He thought of the time she made him breakfast in bed and decided to return the favor. Everyone liked pancakes, right? Again, silently as possible, he began to make them and once they were done he prepared two plates and an extra mug of coffee for her. He made his way over to the bed, carefully sitting on the bed with the tray. “Are you awake, love?” he asks softly, not being able to help the smile on his face. “I made you breakfast.”

“Are you stalking me?” he asks, well, more so grumbled. The last time they had met James was at the bar and now there Tessa was once again. “This isn’t the type of place you should be at, child,” he tells her. “Folks around here won’t take kindly to you.” Not that he really cares, but he’s just trying to get her out of his hair. “I doubt you’ll listen though. So, what is it? What do you want?”

“These games are rigged, you know,” James said as he looked up at the prizes above the ring toss. He turns to look at Barbie. He can’t help but smile at her. “But, I will play. And attempt to win you that giant, pink bear.” He points to the bear hanging to advert her eyes to it. James thought the prizes were childish, but then again they were aimed towards children. And if it made Barbie happy, then he was happy. “Alright, let’s give it a go.” He pulls his wallet out and hands the game tender a few bills. The first ring he throws he misses entirely. It was a bit embarrassing but he doesn’t let that on. “First try is always a fail.” He smiles sheepishly at her. “I’ll get it though. Just give me a few tries.”

@queenenarissa
James had been waiting in line for a funnel cake for what seemed like forever. By the time he had reached the front of the line he was clearly annoyed. He paid for his sweet treat and ate it on his way to the mini-bar to grab a drink to wash it down. He wiped the powdered sugar off his face before he reached the front of the second ridiculously long line he’d waited in that day. He knew he wouldn’t want to wait in line twice for a drink so he ordered two right away and just said one was for his girlfriend. (He doesn’t have a girlfriend.) He felt kind of silly walking around with two drinks in his hand so he was quick to drink the first one. After tossing the first plastic cup into a nearby trash can he went along with his business and walked towards the games. Maybe he could win Barbie a cute stuffed animal or something and surprise her. He was taking a sip of his drink when he spotted none other than Narissa. He nearly spat his drink out and had to cover his mouth to prevent it. He was trying to not make his presence obvious but when she began approaching him he knew he was doomed. “Narissa,” he greeted. “Have you come to feed on my soul or did you already fill up on the souls of unsuspecting children?”

James liked Wonderland. It was kind of grimy but there was a strange aura to it. The dancers were pretty gorgeous and his favorite little floater worked there-- Alice. She was a real gem but when she wasn’t working James spent his time downstairs where he could gamble. He wasn’t a big gambler but sometimes those damn slot machines just sucked him in. Then there was the blackjack table. He never won but it was still fun and he was usually too high to care. He found himself there again, a cigarette loosely hanging from his mouth. “I’ve got a twenty. No fucking way you’ve got twenty-one.” He slapped his cards down then took a drag off of the cigarette, flicking the ash onto one of the ashtrays at the table.

Anyone under the age of twenty-seven James considered a child. Why that age? He didn’t have a particular reason but usually people in their early to mid twenties could be rather immature. That wasn’t true in all cases, of course, but there was a particular person in his mid twenties that James would consider the epitome of immature. He was currently at his shop, sitting behind the check out counter while a few people were browsing. He didn’t have a ton of employees. A shop that size didn’t need many. So, often he found himself working alone. Which was fine. He didn’t mind. It wasn’t like his home was far. Home and work were both on the docks of Walt Grove. He heard the little jingle of the bell above the front door, indicating someone had just walked in. A child, of course. In his eyes at least. His eyes followed the girl as she looked around. Finally, he said, “can I help you?” She didn’t seem like she was looking for fishing supplies or anything similar. Maybe she was lost. Or sent by Peter. There was always that possibility.

Wonderland was a strange place. Strange people went there and James was sure he fit in enough to not raise enough eyebrows to get by. He may not exactly fall into the crowd but the people there were either on enough drugs or drunk enough to not notice. Usually he sat at the bar, watching the people on stage and having some drinks. Sometimes he’d do lines in the bathroom and sometimes people would join him. It was strange. Everything about the place screamed strange. James liked a particular girl there and that was Alice. She, herself, was strange but he was drawn to her. When she went behind the bar he flashed her a smile and beckoned her over. “Been looking for you tonight. Where were you hiding?”

James was known to be a sketchy man that did meager things. He was careful and calculated though and was never caught when doing less than legal actions. He liked to walk a lot of places if they weren’t too far. The weather was starting to get decent again and he didn’t like relying on his car as his only form of transportation. He had a strange feeling though, almost an instinct, that he was being followed. Yet, every time he turned around there was no one there. When he turned a corner he waited a minute then jumped back out. “Why are you following me?!” he accused in a harsh whisper.
