I also headcanon that Gith hold marking/bruising of their partners in high regard due to nature of their skin and density.

Gith skin isn't sandpaper but it’s not soft either. Their skin is naturally tough, thicker than human/elf skin, and there’s a texture to it akin to very fine scales. The texture fluctuates between smooth and ribbed depending if you go against the grain or not.

Gith density? A hold over from Mindflayer enslavement, Thinner bodies to take up less space but not sacrificing muscle/bone strength for labor. This makes them appear surprisingly heavy to others yet not to themselves, even the biggest elf possible feels like lifting a gnome child to a gith.
