i'm a little nervous about my irl session zero so have things about king while i'm futzing about getting my ideas together for this evening

king was modeled after the perception that most people have of vash at first, but given the exhaustion and defeated self destruction of LIFETIMES instead of just a couple of centuries.

however, it became steadily apparent that he is more like a mix of knives and vash than either of them in full. he has the mentality of "these people don't deserve to suffer, but after thousands of years of not receiving help, i don't believe they deserve my HELP, either".

he's a bit of a hypocrite. saying that the worlds should not get involved in their (queen & king's) petty squabbles vs him getting them all involved by failing to do his job as King of the Glooms.

to call either queen or king perfect or the worst would be neglecting the fact that they had a destiny, a FATE, thrust upon them that they did not want, pit against each other at such a young age by the cosmos which did not care if they were children outwardly or knew anything of how to defend themselves yet. they were chosen to be the king and queen, forever dancing on a chess game no one else understands.

where queen revels in her newfound glory, king is very tired. often to a point of having to be physically restraining himself from saying cruel things when these kids, such wonderful kids, who deserve better than himself, and sometimes being too tired to manage it.

sometimes he will not use names, and instead use titles for a person. (e.g. arthur = little hero, alexios = little knight, valkyr = the moon, helia = the sun)

ah, he supposes, in a way, it was irrelevant to say that those from scala ad caelum had a longer lifespan regardless, even the "humans". it was just, well... a group of them had been chosen to never die.

a forever repeating cycle of reincarnation, as some cultures believe. he thinks, once, his death and subsequent revival generated the idea of gods who ascend when they die as a grand human.

instead, he just smiles and hums pleasantly. if his presence grants a bit of reprieve from the world, it was better than being called a demon, or evil itself.
